This is the new

mclaren

gt and it's a bit like these sunglasses that are also new from

mclaren

in the way it does things slightly different. I mean, look at the frames on these and the way the temples work. Plus, it's a pretty light car. Compared to normal GT cars, like an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera or a Bentley Continental GT, these glasses now cost a thousand pounds. In case you're wondering, the car that weighs one hundred and sixty-three thousand pounds will get a lot more expensive with some options. Also, we will talk more about that later, before we start the

Let's start this

review

by talking about the design of the McLaren GT, so there is no active wrist spoiler like the one on the 720, rather it is integrated into the trunk lid. you have a diffuser in the rear and you will notice that the exhaust is lower than in other mclarens and of course, mclaren being mclaren, in fact they are real, they pass the car, what a piece of truth, oh yes, mate, that piece It's just not

good

enough, yeah. This thing, look, this piece of trunk that also fits there. McLaren doesn't mess with fake vents.

More Interesting Facts About,

new mclaren gt 2020 in depth review the good and not so good...

Every vent or port in this car has a purpose. Now these wheels in the rear are 21 inches, the largest ever installed. mclaren are the front ones, you have 20, but looking at the side of the car you can see that it is very long, so this car is 4.7 meters long, which is the same as an aston martin dbs superleggera but the design is completely different, it has this teardrop shape that helps with aerodynamics and the reason it has that shape is because the engine is in the middle, that's important. You see, this is a GT car

good

for transporting you long distances, but when you get close to your destination and there are some twisty roads you can drive.

It's like a proper supercar now moving towards the front, the bodywork is quite secure, isn't it for a GT car once again? That mid-engine design means you don't have to have a big, long body because there's no engine underneath. And the front of the car is clearly a McLaren, although slightly different to any other McLaren we've seen before. There are so many flies around here. I get constantly bitten here, on the front of the mclaren gt, it has more of a supercar vibe than a grand tourer and I like that, so the dashboard design is very very sporty, with air vents like this, everything is very easy to layout, so all the driving controls are here, the infotainment is there or the lights and stuff are here, it's super easy to use. then you have all these curves over the place very mclaren and i like the way you have ambient lighting here and here and you can also change the color of that, the materials are very very beautiful and everything feels solid overall.

I like this feature too, the blinds feel expensive, very boutique-like and check out this little vanity mirror the way it droops. I like that too, it's a shame it doesn't have light. I'll tell you what a shame it is. Well, check this out, the rearview mirror if only it felt as stylish as the vanity mirror, it's like something out of a country house. Also, my cameraman doesn't like this piano black plastic. I don't mind it here, but it scratches pretty easily. So some complaints, it's not perfect, but overall it's pretty good and that's not so great, although these, although they are optional, these shift pedals are solid aluminum and beautiful, they feel great, as do these shift controls.
Optional knurled vents. They are lovely and great to touch, it's very very nice, in fact that brings me to the specifications of this car as standard: you get a central entertainment screen and a digital driver's display, you can navigate through different menus and also change its appearance depending on which one. Whichever mode the car is in, there is also extended leather which is very luxurious and of course you get four LED headlights and taillights. This car has quite a few options installed, it has the lux package which weighs 990 pounds and includes things like electrically operated seats.
Otherwise, they're manual only and you get an extra smooth scanner almost everywhere, even here on the sill trim, although it seems to scratch easily. Do you like this metallic green paint? Well, it costs four grand if you specify the premium piece which includes lots of extras. Bits and pieces like this lovely 12-speaker stereo from Barris and Wilkins will set you back an extra £4,900 and when you add up all the options fitted to this particular car it comes to almost £34,000, bringing the total price to £197 grand . let's continue this review by talking about the infotainment system so it is completely new for mclaren and it is quite easy to use it is very much like your mobile phone so you have your home button and you can scroll through different functions and applications normally on their screens. things are very slow, but look, it's like your mobile phone, it's just as fast, maybe the screen resolution is not as sharp as your latest Samsung s10 plus, but it's not bad at all.
My only complaint with this infotainment system. It's the fact that it doesn't have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay which is a nightmare, apparently those systems don't work with the screen orientation of this car, what I can't complain about is the seating position, it's always lovely at mclaren's and it's no different here it's easy to get comfortable there's plenty of adjustment in the seat although it's a bit tricky to find the controls on these power seats but I can push them back a lot so if your leg is longer you'll be fine, There's also a good amount of headroom so if you have a long body you'll be fine too and of course you can adjust the steering wheel and it's just perfect, very central, good driving position.
I also like the fact that there is plenty of headroom. There is light here so the glass area is quite large for such a sporty car and they have even worked in some small light panels right between the pillars at the rear which is also nice, we have a bit more lighting and improves visibility in terms of the connectivity is not very good, okay, you have a USB and a 12 volt outlet. I like it, though look, they have these little slats. We can put your mobile phone next to these cup holders. Now this cup holder is a bit.
It's hard to get to that, there's a bigger one here if you need it and it can hold a big bottle. There are some letters in there, we can store some other bits and pieces. Also, unlike the look of the 720, it has a glove box, not exactly the largest. but you have a trunk in the back you have a hurricane it is the cooling system of a car because it is very hot here you have a trunk with 420 liters of space although the way the space is organized is quite uncomfortable, as you can see, it is very, very shallow, isn't it?
You need these straps to hold your luggage in place, otherwise when it breaks it will fly into the passenger compartment and you also need to have specific soft bags so that you can take advantage of this space. In this regard, although you can place skis here, you can also place a set of golf clubs, although you need a special McLaren bag that has the right shape for this. I liked this, although look at the carbon fiber which is lovely, you don't understand that. In most cars the boot is not the only one, although there is obviously one at the front, so in the front you have 150 liters of space, which is more than you get in the front of a Porsche 911 when you combine it with the rear trunk.
I have 570 liters, which is more than can fit in the boot of a Volvo V60 McLaren. Let's say a golf cart fits in there, although I think if you can afford one of these cars and are too lazy to carry your clubs yourself. You could probably afford a stroller now that there's a 12 volt outlet if you need to charge something, but the real test for this frank is whether I can fit in it comfortably and it looks like I may wish you could take the hood off because they could take me like that, although I'd probably end up with a lot of flies in the teeth and that brings me to five annoying things about the mclaren gt, depending on the position of the sun, you get a terrible reflection of the dashboard on the windshield it is very very annoying, most modern cars They have cameras here that can read the speed signs on the road and will tell you on the car's instruments how fast the speed limit is, which is an important thing in a car that's still this fast.
It doesn't have one so you're never sure how fast to go considering you have to pay extra for the reversing camera it's a little annoying that the resolution is as good as a 1990s video game this car constantly makes a strange high pitched squeaky sound of wine it's really annoying it's like you have tinnitus mclaren doesn't have the best reputation for reliability and yes this car has thrown a fault it says parking brake fault call mclaren service center then we have another problem , the infotainment system has frozen, I can't do anything with it, no, no, oh wait, it thinks I'm still going 66 kilometers per hour, I'm not in hover, the car doesn't have air conditioning and the system ventilation is supposedly off, yes it's still bubbling, not great at the launch of the car, not entirely negative, although here are five good things about this car: the adaptive dampers that come standard can respond in two milliseconds, but don't just react, they can actually be proactive because they use a special algorithm to determine what bumps they think are coming to prime the car and prepare it for them.
The center layer of this car's engine and the fact that it has carbon fiber. The roof means the center of gravity is around your point of impact here, so it feels like the car is spinning around you. A normal front-engined GT car would have its center of gravity up there, which is obviously not so good for a sporty driving feel. Then there's the weight itself, so this car weighs 1,530 kilos, which is pretty light for a grand tourer. Something like a surprising db super legera weighs almost 1900 kilos and a bentley continental gt exceeds two tons. I love the design of the door handle so you just push your hand in there and it opens automatically then you lift it up and of course being the machine you have dihedral doors.
I also like the fact that you have little pockets in the doors that fit your sunglasses case so things don't fall out. When you lift the door, finally look at this. It also has soft cloth on the doors with the optional lift kit installed. You can lift the nose of the crop slightly and then this GT has the same approach and departure angles as a Mercedes C-Class, so you can drive it pretty much anywhere you can one of those mid-engined cars, hopefully the luggage area gets very hot, but to counteract that, mclaren has equipped it with a special material that resists heat and also air intakes on the sides channel the air here and apparently the temperature in this luggage area never exceeds 40 degrees .
McLaren says that about two-thirds of this car is completely new and that includes the carbon fiber tub and also the four-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that has been modified from the 720, so it has 620 horsepower and 630 Nm. of torque. It is paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that drives the rear wheels and can only do anything to 60 with launch control in 3.1 seconds and will top out at 203 miles per hour. I'm going to start the driving section of this mclaren gt by testing it in the city, when i say city i mean the boulevard of the french riviera, the first thing you notice is that compared to a normal gt car, i have a very very dashboard. low and a short hood which helps in situations like this when trying to pull out at blind intersections.
If it was in something else, maybe something like an Aston Martin DBS with that big long bonnet it would have had. I have no idea if he was simply sticking his nose in front of a fast-moving truck. With this it is much better, much easier, it is shorter and you get an excellent panoramic view. In fact, it is very easy to pass cyclists. You can know exactly where the curves are. The parts of the car are and it is super comfortable, the suspension does a great job over the bumps, obviously everything is in automatic comfort mode, so I am relaxing enjoying this landscape, look, oh look, the Mediterranean looks beautiful, the steering is not too light nor too heavy, very easy.
To control the brakes, they don't have much time assistance, but they are not abrupt and it also has a fairly decent turning radius,so if you see something you like, someone in a bikini, I think I'll go see it. It's not very easy to make a uae and be a little perverted. The second environment where you need a grand tourer to be successful is long-distance cruising, so the highway, the normal, fast road, is what I'm traveling on now. So it does a good job in terms of comfort. These seats are lovely. The suspension is brilliant. The gearbox also shifts gears very well when you're moving.
It's great. What's not so great is the fact that you get a constant hum. I don't even hear it from the exhaust, so something and this is in comfort mode, if you put it in sport mode, it gets a little louder even, it's there constantly like it's a va with turbochargers with very little character and there are some other noises. Aside from brakes and stuff, these guys seem to lack the ultimate refinement of some of the other GT cars, like an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, another thing they're missing is autonomous cruise control when you cross continents these cars are supposed to they are good, you will want to just cruise down the highway which is very boring, put the car on automatic cruise control and let it do its thing, let's drive let it keep you a safe distance from the car in front, this car doesn't have it , it just has old cruise control, so it just keeps the throttle at the setting you want, that's not good enough, especially when you have something like a Bentley continental gt, which has autonomous cruise control, that mclaren is a Bit of an oversight for me, so really what this car is about is when you finish most of your trip and the road starts to get interesting, then it can entertain you like any other. other mclaren it doesn't feel like a gt car but like a supercar the chassis balance is brilliant the steering is perfect it is hydraulically assisted rather than electric which gives you a lot more feel and the engine and brakes are good enough to pull you along this is a car you can really throw around, it just feels light, nimble, it may not be the most expensive long distance cruiser, but when you can have fun like this all is forgiven, I mean this is just epic, it's a supercar, but every day it really is like that, the gearbox is also very good, when you shift it yourself it is super fast when you drive, it is nice and smooth, then there is a different driving mode, so for this kind of conditions , sport is perfect and that alters the shift speed of the gearbox and suspension, if you modify the chassis, you can put it in track mode, but in reality sport is the best for the road, you can never change the map of the accelerator, but that's fine because it is a very responsive accelerator and you don't change it either. the weight of the steering, although it changes automatically when you are in the city, but really all you need to be able to change is the gearbox and the suspension, everything else works and when you are sinking, the exhaust note is better, it is quite strident. pretty deep, yes this is a very fun car, it's very different to any other gt i have driven so once my final verdict on the new mclaren gt should i avoid it, should i consider it, should i shortlist it or just move on. and buy it right, i think you should shortlist the gt, it's not one of the most relaxing grand tourers, but it's definitely one of the most fun, just so you know, i explained the problems i had with the gt to mclaren, they checked the car . and I found out it had to do with the infotainment system and they said it's because the infotainment system is new, there's a problem with the software, but apparently that will all be fixed when the cars reach customers.
