mclaren

gt and it is the

luxury

mclaren

all mclarens are

luxury

cars of course to some extent but they are mostly supercars and sports cars with rough ride and loud exhausts this is supposed to be the most luxurious new mclaren grand touring the most luxurious car mclaren ever made today i'm going to find out if it really is i borrowed this mclaren gt from oguera la jolla that just became mclaren san diego the new mclaren dealer here in san diego now mclaren san diego has all the latest mclaren models and that includes the new gt that just arrived this month to fill a big luxury gap in the mclaren lineup at first glance it may not look like a luxury touring car and I'm especially skeptical when I look at the numbers it has 612 horsepower, it will do zero to 60 in 3.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 203 miles per hour which, aside from the mid-engine design and two-seat layout, isn't usually a luxury. touring car but mclaren insists the interior is much more luxurious mclaren says the suspension is tuned for a more supple ride and it certainly looks a lot less daring and crazy than the mclaren 720 which is based on price though it's very much in supercar exotic car territory this starts around two hundred and ten grand and that's before the options which are plentiful and expensive so today i'm going to take you on a tour of the new mclaren gt and show you all the quirks and cool features of the latest mclaren then i'll take it out on the road and drive it and then give it a double score and for more of my thoughts on the gt click the link below to visit autotrader.com oversteer ok i'm going to start with the quirks and features of the mclaren gt by just going in which isn't the most obvious thing because there's no immediately apparent door handle here it turns out the door handle is behind the door it's this little panel that's painted the same color as the body you push it and then the window goes down a bit and the door opens so i push it and now the door is open and i can go up but before i do there is a little hidden party trick with this door handle: yes You push and hold it, the window will automatically drop down to the door, allowing you to roll down the windows before getting into the car to cool it down a bit. a bit before you get on so I'll do it now unfortunately the only downside to this is once you've rolled the window down you can't bring it back up from the outside you can't push the door handle again or hold press the lock button on the key fob the window is down so once you roll it down you better be okay with it staying down unless the car is started and back on bring it up using the window switches and then speaking of opening cool stuff on this car i want to move on to the tailgate yes this car has a tailgate and to open it you press a little button on the key fob and then it opens automatically on the long list of things I never thought a mclaren would do, it was definitely pretty high up there and of course when you're ready to close the tailgate it's no wonder there's a little button inside the tailgate that shows a mclaren with the door liftgate open, press that button and then the liftgate automatically comes down and closes itself, no re-knocking here and probably the best thing about this whole process is that the button on the fob to open the liftgate is the same button you press on other mclarens to open the front trunk here if you want to open the front trunk you just press the front half of that car's diagram but if you want to open the rear door you press the rear half of that car's diagram and then the rear door opens it opens automatically and you can come back here to store your luggage now the reason you have this power liftgate of course is that in the back of this car you have a giant cargo area most other mclaren models They have the engine on display back here but not this one instead it has a giant cargo area now the liftgate opens revealing a cargo area which begs the question is this really a mclaren hatchback?
the 2020 mclaren gt is the 250 000 ultra luxury mclaren
I'll let them debate that for now I'm going to hit them with some numbers. You have 14.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the seats, combine that with the front trunk and you have 20.3 cubic feet of total cargo space in your mclaren that's more than a toyota camry i'm serious and it's about the same as a honda hrv with the seats up it's a compact crossover and the mclaren rivals it in cargo space in fact the cargo area back here is so big mclaren says it has room for golf clubs you can't put golf clubs in a ferrari 488 though , honestly, could you fit golf clubs in here is it big enough to make it look a bit over the top? but since i am committed to giving you the most comprehensive car reviews i have a set of golf clubs and now i am going to try to load them into the back of the mclaren gt now that they are here we hit the button and well i think it's safe to say that you can, in fact, get a set of golf clubs in the back of a mclaren gt now, while you may be excited to celebrate the fact that there's finally a mclaren you can load your golf clubs into.

More Interesting Facts About,

the 2020 mclaren gt is the 250 000 ultra luxury mclaren...

It's important to mention That having this cargo area back here means you can't see any of the engine on the 720s, you can see a little bit of the engine when you walk to the back of the car and this thing is completely covered. because of this leather-wrapped cargo area but this cargo area is incredibly practical for example there are six different hooks you can use in the back here to tie down your cargo to keep it from rolling around and getting damaged while you're driving in your mclaren that's the kind from what you would see in the trunk of a family sedan they have it here and this mclaren hatchback as well and then another item worth noting here although the engine can't be seen anymore because of this cargo area it's still back here this It's still a mid engined car it's just below the cargo area and there are two engine reminders on each side of the cargo area it has little caps on the right it has the oil cap unscrew it and that's where you can add oil And on the left you have the coolant cap, unscrew it and you can add coolant, but that's about as close to the engine as you'll get on your McLaren; otherwise it just has a beautiful luxurious leather wrapped cargo area back here perfectly in keeping with what you would expect from the luxurious mclaren gt and then we move to the rear of the gt where a flaw of this car becomes apparent from right away and it's the fact that right above this cargo area is a huge rear window and that means whatever you put in here is actually visible to anyone passing by and not just visible but on display look everybody this is my bag golf, great, huh?
the 2020 mclaren gt is the 250 000 ultra luxury mclaren
You're going to want to use the front trunk or get some kind of cover that you can put on those cargo tie downs so no one can see it and then we move on to the turn signals on the mclaren gt and as you can see they're great they just light up as part of this thin line of brake light strip and they light up more and more orange as they flash and it looks really cool now in previous videos i told you that turn signals like this don't meet us regulations and i'm not exactly sure how this car fits in that this is some kind of demo show car it may not be a US spec model it points out a couple other notable turn signal related items with this car , one is on the side is the fact that the red rear reflector comes on like a turn signal when you turn the turn signal on so it actually flashes and it's the same deal on the front with the front orange reflector that It flashes like a turn signal when you turn the turn signal on that's a bit unusual you don't see it very commonly when you're going to the front of this car although the turn signal is pretty standard pretty much in line with other mclaren models that they have similar shape and style turn signals and finally since im back here we might as well do it with the exhaust note now remember its supposed to be the luxury gran touring high class mclaren not a sports car exotic supercar let's see if it sounds like that next we move on to the interior of the luxury mclaren where you see a lot of the same touches here that you saw in that cargo area specifically leather throughout just check out this fully finished leather interior leather and more leather a big departure from the carbon fiber and alcantara interiors often seen on basically every other mclaren they use those materials to save weight they are good for track use but this is all about leather regardless of how thick heavy be beautiful it's luxurious and it's in the luxury mclaren now it's worth noting all this leather really transforms the experience at least from a visual perspective it looks very different from any other mclaren on here it looks a lot like a luxury car it's how mclaren is pitching it it's amazing just changing the materials can have that much effect but it definitely doesn't look like a mclaren interior other than your usual infotainment system your steering wheel that sort of thing but beyond that all leather there's a couple other luxury features here because this is the luxury mclaren and by far the most notable is the moonroof ok you look up at the sunroof you see a pretty glass panel simple but you can adjust its brightness if you push a little control on the roof you can have the sunroof change immediately to let more light in but if you decide it's too much light there are several different stages of brightness you can choose for the sunroof and as you can see it immediately switches to whatever stage you set it's really awesome the sunroof can instantly change the amount of light it lets in almost as awesome is the control that allows you to do this on one side there is a moon on the The other side is a sun and then there are these little boxes in the middle you push these boxes and they correspond to several different levels of brightness for the sunroof and you can see the box light up when you push it and then the sunroof changes its brightness all it's a very slick operation and very cool if you do it.
the 2020 mclaren gt is the 250 000 ultra luxury mclaren
Do you ever get in a car and decide that the sunroof is letting in too much heat, too much light, well you don't need just an ugly sunroof cover on this thing because it has a magic glass but it's not just the sunroof and the leather what it does This is a luxury car, how about the fact that there is extra storage space in here? Most mclaren models don't have any door storage because the doors swing up and anything you had in there would just fall out, but this one you can see inside the leather. in the door panel you push this little pocket open and it reveals a pretty big storage compartment so you have some extra storage in your mclaren beyond the center console and whatever you can fit in your pockets and there's still more hidden storage than that because at the front of the underside of the seat is a leather storage bag that you can open and then put small items in there again adding more storage to this interior this car does not have a glove box although it does have a storage area in the center console but still adding this extra storage helps take up some of the glove box clearance most mclaren owners wouldn't mind but it's nice to have in the luxury mclaren and here's another nice touch of luxury in this interior it has sun visors of course all mclaren models have those but all mclaren models don't have sun visor mirrors because you don't need to look at yourself when you drive a mclaren you already know you are cool but in luxury mclaren there are mirrors and you they fold up separately you fold the sun visor down and then there is a second folding item which is the sun visor mirror and you have it on the driver side and passenger side so both driver and passenger have their own sun visor mirrors so you can see how luxurious they are and one more piece of a luxury car in this interior is the sound system it has a Bowers and Wilkins sound system and you can see in the door panels these absolutely beautiful aluminum speakers beautiful and surrounded by extra aluminum trim fantastically beautiful sound system very luxurious befits this car but despite all the luxury additions to this car it is ultimately still a mclaren and has some elements usual mclaren supercars for example if you look in the center console you can see a start button this luxury touring car has start control they also have the little dials that allow you to change the drive mode and the drive dials and powertrain have t for track mode so you can go into track mode in this luxury grand tourer mclaren.
It's also worthNoting that this car has butterfly doors which is not exactly what you'd expect from a grand tourer luxury car, but now it does, making getting in and out a bit more difficult than in your typical luxury car, so it's just one more item that makes me think this is more of a supercar than an actual touring car and by the way in terms of opening those doors I already showed you how to do it from the outside but from the inside it's pretty easy just there's a little latch on the door panel it's an electronic trigger you pull it and the door opens and then you have to do the rest of the work pushing it yourself from there and then we go to the infotainment system where you'll find a luxury item interesting here is an app marked as ambience you press it then it stops your interior lighting color options there are six different color options and you can see you can choose between the footwell and the cockpit you can select both and then whatever color you choose is in both footwell and cockpit or you can choose one, for example if you only want your footwells lit on but don't want your purple lights to cover up all the rest of the interior you can , you can also remove them and then you don't have to put up with any of these ambient lighting colors and then another interesting element in the infotainment system is the climate controls you go to the climate controls and the part where you direct where the air goes is not just a picture of a person but more of a person with a helmet i love this little detail on all mclarens just a little attention to detail that emphasizes they are paying attention to even the little things.
I think that's a really cool touch. Another item worth mentioning in the climate control section of the infotainment system is the heated seats. This car has heated seats. and you can go to the climate controls and turn it on but the problem is that the process to turn it on is quite cumbersome, first you have to press the climate button under the infotainment screen which brings up the climate controls and only then can you turn on the climate controls heated seats really should be a simple button like on pretty much any other car but since this is probably one of mclaren's first attempts at heated seats I guess I'll pass it now in terms of the infotainment system other than that it's pretty standard, nothing particularly unusual here compared to other mclarens, shares a fairly similar infotainment system, reasonably responsive, only unusual thing is that it's positioned vertically like a smartphone and not horizontally like most other cars, although i have noticed more and more vertical screens in cars i have been testing the ford explorer the subaru outback all the new volvos mclaren has been doing it longer than almost anyone now next we go from the infotainment system to the other screen in this car and that would be in the gauge cluster the gauge cluster isn't as interesting on the gt as it is on some other mclaren models for example it doesn't flip like other mclarens does it turn the car on and does it flip or slide on its place?
You don't do that here instead it's fixed it's a more regular gauge cluster but I should mention that if you put this car in track mode the gauge cluster layout will change from a standard layout to a more focused layout the track, you can see that it emphasizes your rpm and gear a lot more and de-emphasizes your speed since you're not as concerned about breaking the speed limit if you're on a race track and another interesting item on the gauge cluster when turn off this car you can see it shows a number of days what exactly is that is how many days the battery has left on no charge this is really a brilliant idea because people have mclarens often have large collections and keep their cars parked and not moving for a long period of time this will show you how many days you can do that so when you turn off your mclaren it says two days you know i better plug it in and charge the battery or maybe better change the battery thats actually a much better idea than the alternative , which is that you don't know how many days you have left, you leave the car stationary, then you get in to drive it and you have a flat battery, by the way, another interesting element in this interior is the fact that you are here.
With your stuff as this is the McLaren hatchback and the entire interior compartment is fully open but that means if you brake really hard your stuff will probably slide forward and hit you or damage something. Here is a small bar to try to store your things. in place but definitely something worth thinking about for example the way I loaded the golf clubs they could easily slide forward if you are going to load them you might want to flip them the other way like so that if you brake hard the golf clubs won't hit you while stopped in your mclaren now that being said there is a front trunk on this car as i mentioned before and it's pretty big so if you have something you don't really want to roll and smash inside while you're breaking you can always stick him in the front trunk and that's a nice safe spot for him where none of that will happen of course, sticking something in the front trunk will also keep him out of anyone's prying eyes. who looks in the cargo area of your mclaren and those are the quirks and features of the mclaren gt now its time to take it out on the road and see how it handles well driving the mclaren gt now i thought this was just going to be a little stupid and it was really just going to be them calling a gt car and putting a leather interior on it until i heard the exhaust note huh and it's clear this is no ordinary mclaren they're trying to pare it down a bit with the sports car and Go up a notch with the luxury and that exhaust note is a clear indication that it can still have the sporty performance of most McLaren models, but it's clearly not meant to be the car that will wake up your neighbors so do it in actually succeed is obviously the question and creating a vehicle that feels like a gt car a luxury car and the answer is yes and no this is not a mercedes sl it just isn't um it's clearly faster more exciting more exciting uh higher mid-engine just isn't a car where you're going to splurge and just relax and even go over potholes like potholes in the lane line you can tell potholes aren't things that aren't completely removed from consciousness um You can hear things that you can feel things, but with that being said, this is definitely a more relaxed McLaren.
I'm in sport mode right now and the exhaust is more off than usual. The interior is more comfortable than a typical McLaren. p1 those things are so rough and so loud and the ride is just awful and they're just a total challenge this definitely doesn't feel like it uh it just feels more luxurious more relaxed i wonder if it still feels fast yes it does but i know it starts up a lot differently it's kind of interesting actually the speed isn't what you get from a 720 I'm surprised it's fast but it's definitely a more rational and reasonable power build it doesn't beat you're up against the 720's you're all for it and it's like oh my gosh this is a new dimension this thing isn't quite on that level it's actually interesting how different they've made this from your typical mclaren um it was really coming to this waiting to be ok they wrapped it in leather called an electric car it didn't work but actually a lot of things about this car are different the ride is more comfortable safe it's not as loud it's more comfortable inside obviously there's more Cargo space and some nice fancy touches like Bowers and Wilkins and I think for a lot of McLaren owners if they're being totally honest with themselves this is the one they want.
I'm thinking a 600 lt and you're going to track it no I just want something cool for the road and I'm thinking you don't want a 600 lt really this is what you want I would really say this is a good car and it's probably the best mclaren all around you get all the crazy performance numbers its not as expensive as a 720 its not as fast but you know again for most people this would work um but you also get sort of a more luxurious and reasonable experience they've added enough luxury to make it a more streamlined car but they haven't taken away the performance um so i really think this ends up being a pretty good compromise from mclaren and that's the mclaren gt to me this is a sports car Still more exotic than the real gt cars, just based on driving experience, performance numbers, sound, looks, but I reckon it's more luxurious than all the other mclarens, which are usually very rough, sporty, and loud . so if you're looking for a luxury car i don't know but if you're looking for a luxury mclaren this is the place and now it's time to give the gt a score doug starting with the weekend and styling categories The McLaren GT is a nice looking car a bit derivative but still good looking and it scores a 7 out of 10.
McLaren says 0-60 acceleration is 3.3 seconds and it scores a 9 out of 10. The handling is pretty good especially for a supposed luxury car and it gets an 8 out of 10. The fun factor is good, not quite at the level of the 720 or the 600 lt, but still very nice and it gets an 8 out of 10. Finally the cool factor and the mclarens are great, but of course this doesn't have the wow factor that gets the attention of the p1 or the 720s and gets a 7 out of 10 for an overall weekend score of 39 out of 50. following are the daily categories and features the gt is Reasonably well equipped and gets a 6 out of 10.
Comfort is better than most other mid engine cars and gets a 5 out of 10. Quality is good, interior quality is fantastic but we're all a little concerned For McLaren reliability, it still gets a 7 out of 10. Practicality is tough, this car has plenty of cargo space, but only two seats. I'll be nice and give it a 4 out of 10, rewarding it for having a lot more space to put things, even if other cars with that score have it. more room for people to finally value this is a reasonably priced car given the performance but it will likely depreciate more than other mclarens it scores a 6 out of 10 for an overall daily score of 28 out of 50 added up and the score Doug's is 67 out of 100 and this is where it falls off against many other modern GT and exotic cars. car for people who want mclaren fun without getting squashed by stiff suspension
