Disney's Next Gravity Falls

May 30, 2021
Have you ever noticed that almost all modern Disney cartoons have the same setup? I'm serious, most of the original Disney cartoons these days are about kids being taken out of their boring normal lives and thrown into a new location full of strange, supernatural or fantastical crap, where they are taken in by a new family. or an extended family member and they all work together to face the challenges of this new location while uncovering some sort of mystery. This is very specifically a Disney thing right now and if you ask me, it probably all started it. in 2012 with Gravity Falls, you know, Gravity Falls which shows about two twins spending the summer with their shady great uncle in a town full of spooky supernatural things with an underlying mystery that is slowly revealed over the course of the show's two seasons. . a huge success for Disney, I mean the show ended in 2016 and the fanbase is still ride or die and that kind of lasting success won't go unnoticed by the mouse.

No cartoon can really do it. will be the next gravity

falls

but let's play the game anyway today i want to take a look at

disney

's top three original cartoons right now amphibian duck tales and the owl house sorry big city greenies maybe another time let's see which is the best show or anything but more to see the potential of each to become the worthy spiritual successor to Disney's Gravity Falls, even if it just spoils them all, but first I just want to say that if you enjoy this video and want to support the channel, you can always like it. and subscribe by pressing the red button below and clicking the bell next to it to be notified whenever I upload content in the future.

Also just a reminder that I have a couple of fun t-shirts available in my merch store. There's the classic short story logo t-shirt like you can see in every video and there's the I'm the Salt t-shirt, which now doubles as my mood every time I play Animal Crossing. You can find them in this little banner right below the video or in the link in the description, so yeah, if you want to support my channel, those are some of the best ways to do it and I really appreciate it anyway. I get back to whatever I'm doing this week and I want to start with Ducktales partly because it's the oldest of the three, but Mainly, I've been waiting for a reason to talk about this show for the last three years, so Ducktales is the 2017 reboot of Disney's 1987 classic Ducktales.

We have three brothers, Huey Dewey and Louie, who live a pretty normal life with their boring uncle. Donald Duck then drops the children off at his great-uncle Scrooge McDuck's gigantic mansion. Scrooge here is the richest duck in the world who used to have all kinds of crazy adventures fighting monsters, discovering lost treasures and all that, but he's been retired for a long time. That is until Huey Dewey and Louie come into his life, cause a ton of trouble and throw him back into adventure, and that's basically the show now to be a contender in this weird little contest I'm throwing, you don't have to follow The Gravity Falls template exactly that similar setup is important, but it's more about having a vibe like the shows should feel cut in the same way, but from the beginning, here on Ducktales we have siblings being taken in by a great uncle with a mysterious past and going on fantastical adventures that are pretty on the nose or the beak, I guess, plus there are characters like Webby, who is basically Mabel, if she were socially awkward, and Launchpad, who is our resident Seuss for this cartoon, wow dude , this is crazy, it's just like you. you're a pilot, define pilot and of course at the end of episode one, we had a mystery on our hands, mom, man, when I first saw this at the end of the premiere, I was immediately hooked.
I love duck stories. I almost went into grunkle. Stan, I love Duck Tales, it's actually one of my favorite cartoons, but in terms of taking the throne of Gravity Falls, I'm not sure many of the pieces are there, it certainly has all the action, adventure, comedy and drama you could want from this. kind of cartoon, but if you ask me, one big thing is missing and well, this is going to sound contradictory, but it's the mystery. Look, Ducktales has its fair share of mysteries, but where gravity falls, since mysteries were the basis of the show until now. has a few mysteries based on a fun adventure show like the show's first main mystery, Huey Dewey and Louie's mother, which is solved in the first two seasons, but then the show continues with his mother just being a part of the cast. like Great Uncle Ford in Gravity Falls, but in Gravity Falls, the mysteries were practically the show leading up to the end.
Great Uncle Ford's return in Gravity Falls was a catalyst towards the show's ultimate goal, which hasn't really been the case with Ducktales. the mysteries are part of ducktales, but ducktales are not their mysteries, if that makes sense, as much as I hate to say this, I really don't think ducktales is catching on, I mean, we're three seasons in and I feel like I'm barely listening to anyone. talk about this show at least not much compared to Gravity Falls, which is still being talked about four years after it ended and I just don't think Ducktales is going to reach that level, which is fine, don't get me wrong. very few cartoons reach that level and it has absolutely no bearing on whether it's a good show or not, like I said Ducktales is one of my all time favorites.
I think any Gravity Falls fan will find things to love in this show and it's on

disney

plus check it out this video is not sponsored by disney plus amazing show next gravity fall probably doesn't matter im not an idiot next amphibian ah amphibian an entire cartoon based solely on this face this is a 2019 cartoon about three girls who are magically transported from their boring normal lives to a world of frog people, for some reason our main protagonist Anne is taken in by this nice family of farmers, the planters, Polly Sprig and Hop Pop, as they try to find a way to get Ann.
Back home now, I admit, when I started watching the show I didn't think it was going to be a contender for my arbitrary, totally made up, pointless competition against a show that doesn't even exist anymore, as if, you have the classic style of gravity fall. It settled in and there was plenty of monster fights and fantasy trash to enjoy, but for most of its first season, Amphibia is just a really good and mostly average comedy show without much mystery. Gravity falls hits you with mystery in the same way. The first five minutes of Amphibia just aren't that difficult.
The entire first half of season 1 can basically be boiled down to this. Wow, you're old and your habits are stupid. Well, you're young and your habits are stupid. We will do mischief. of generational conflict and in the end we'll come away with a new appreciation for each other's perspectives on the good life and I'm sure we'll forget everything we've learned and do this all over again in a week, yeah, the show won't really have a great overarching plot until the end of the first season, although who knows, maybe in the end it will bring out a steven universe and all the initial things we only half pay attention to will become the ultimate evil, watch out, the grubhog has a knife , but yeah, the first season keeps things pretty simple, the second season is getting more involved as Ann's human friends are starting to show up, I mean they're in the opening, I hope they're involved in the plot at some point , but so far amphibians are very similar to duck tales.
It is more of a comedy show that occasionally appears in the plot, the characters are not as one to one as the duck tales, but the style and humor feel very serious, but again, it has lacked that element of mystery, although I think that's going to change very soon the second season has been building a lot more of the intriguing world and then there's the box, look, Anne and her friends were transported to an amphibian by this strange music box that they found in a pawn shop and , like Grunkle Stan, knew something was up with the magazines and gravity falls hop pop sees this box and starts sweating, he knows more than he's letting on and the show is starting to drop hints that some revelations may be in the works. around the corner too, uh, if you want to talk about amphibians being similar to gravity falls, The show has a whole episode that's just a Gravity Falls crossover, kind of like the gang arrives at the shack mysterious or to the curio cabin where they meet Grunkle Stan like no, really, this guy is legit, just Stan Pines, but a frog with the same voice and everything soos even does. a guest appearance to provide meta-existentialism and a drug reference, good wholesome family fun, so when it comes to amphibious possibilities in Disney's upcoming Gravity Falls, things are good in terms of popularity and fan response , it feels amphibian on a similar level to Duck Tales, but where I'm worried Ducktales is going downhill.
I think the amphibians may be going up. It seems like the show is moving a little slower than Gravity Fall, but things are starting to happen and I'm very interested to see where it goes. It helps that I love this show and all of its characters. I can easily see myself going back to watch it again and again. It's on Disney Plus. Check it out. This video is not yet sponsored by Disney Plus and that leaves us with the owl house. Okay, okay, calm down, this is the latest show from the bunch that premiered earlier this year and recently concluded its first season and of course we have our classic setup: a nerdy girl named Loose is about to be sent to a boring summer. camp when she randomly stumbles through a portal into a magical land straight out of a young adult fantasy book that is taken in by this witch named Eda and this adorable little baby demon king whose voice is literally just an encrypted bill without the effects, oh, steven universe wannabe. think we sound the same I don't even hear it yeah I mean you have all that chorus and delay in your voice and I don't yeah besides I'm a demon from a different dimension well I'm also a demon from a different dimension loose He starts learning magic from Eda, meets new friends, and just runs away to live a new life in this dangerously unpredictable world while lying to his mother that he's still at summer camp because apparently there's cell service in this dimension, one of the best.
The thing about The Owl House is how hard it is with its fantasy stuff, the other shows definitely have fantasy elements, but The Owl House is all about the great magical lore of its monsters and devils, they even go to the wizarding school as if it were crazy Harry Pott, now the owl house. is a perfect example of what I meant when I said it wasn't about strictly following another show's format, but rather having the same vibe because all of these shows have similar elements to Gravity Falls Duck Tales has a lot of similar character types. .
Anfibio has a very similar Style of Humor and they all have similar setups, but I feel like this show definitely stands out from the others, even Gravity Falls, the world, the characters, the mysteries, the story, they are all very different from Gravity Falls , but they carry the same energy. The season finale of Owl House gave me the same feeling as watching pieces start to fall into place in gravity falls, although what I was seeing was very different, it was less about breaking codes and finding clues and more about learning the dark and disturbing secrets of this world. but I feel the same way watching Ducktales and Amphibia.
I always found these shows to be similar to Gravity Falls, but they never elicited the same reactions from me. I mean, Ducktales made me cry and Amphibia has me intrigued, but so far it's the owl house. the only one that has given me the same reaction that I had to gravity falls, crazier moments and in terms of popularity and fan response, uh, you guys have been asking me to talk about the owl house every day during the last few weeks, so I thinkThat's your answer, seriously, for the last month, the owl house just exploded and that's important here.
Looks as cool as duck tales and amphibians. I haven't really seen much hype around them. Gravity Falls had hype and now Owl House has hype, I think it's the first new cartoon of the 2020s that really gets people excited and I can totally see why, between our three contenders Ducktales Amphibia and Owl House, in my opinion, the one that in my opinion is most likely to become Disney's next Gravity Falls is the owl house, congratulations, this reward means nothing, but hey, the real winners here, oh, it's us, without a doubt, because we can just enjoy these shows, all of them, Disney is killing the game right now with their cartoons, this might be the strongest lineup they've ever had.
In years, I know I spent this entire video comparing and contrasting all of these shows to Gravity Falls and while they are definitely cut the same, they really are unique in many ways, like I said before, there is no way to replace Gravity Falls. That show was an incredible thing and it was hugely influential. What we're seeing now is that kind of influence being put to work, paving the way for new shows that are incredible and great in their own right. I made a video in January saying that the 2010s gave us some of the best cartoons of all time and that we're going to usher in a new decade of stuff that's just as good, if not better, and these three programs are exactlywhat I was talking about you
