Why are so many Scatpacks/Hellcats wrecking? Here's the real reason..

Jun 01, 2021
Guys, welcome back, I'm Racerx and today I want to talk a little about something that's been on my mind. I have started to see a lot of things on social media, people sending me all kinds of messages, photos and things about people. cars that are actually wrecked and what I mean by that is basically like the charger and the challenger, why are we seeing so

many

wrecked scat packs and

hellcats

right now? Well it's a little scary, I have a couple theories about that and I want to tell you a little bit about how we can make it a little better to keep everyone safe.
why are so many scatpacks hellcats wrecking here s the real reason
It should also be good guys, if you're new to the channel, do me a favor. big please hit the subscribe button hit the notification bell and like and we're off we have 1000 horsepower so yeah I've had a lot of people recently showing me pictures or I'm seeing things on the internet about another accident. Challenger Hellcat, another scat pack charger that just crashed and I see a lot of

reason

s why I think people are

wrecking

their car so I want to get into that but before I do I want to talk a little bit. a little bit about these cars in general and what's been going on with the auto industry, so it's

real

ly important to figure out w

here

we've been and w

here

we are now so we can understand the root cause because, right now, you can actually go to a showroom and get a red eye Challenger Hellcat, essentially an 800 horsepower car straight off the showroom floor for 75,000 or less, sometimes depending on what kind of discount you can get and you're talking about a car that exceeds 200 miles per hour quite easily, in fact as I said it approaches 800 horsepower, who would have thought the day would come or just an average person could run into a showroom, have cash on hand and buy a car with so much power and like we all know we are all car lovers and with power comes a lot of responsibility as they say and some people just aren't that responsible so when we talk about these modern mopars, it is important to understand what we are looking for. here and kind of what we're getting, so we can talk about, for example, the scat pack, for example, the Challenger scat pack that you see behind me and you're talking about a car that weighs 4,250 pounds, but this thing has almost 500. 485 for all intensive purposes, it's got 500 horsepower, but a ton of torque in this thing and this is a traditional muscle car, so while a lot of platforms have taken on a sort of look that's just more modern eh, dodge or fca if Will

real

ly takes pride in keeping this muscle car heritage alive and even though it has a lot of new parts it's still built like a muscle car, it's big, it's heavy yes but it does a lot of things . torque and a lot of times on these things you just don't get enough tire.

More Interesting Facts About,

why are so many scatpacks hellcats wrecking here s the real reason...

I've talked about it over and over again that the tires they put on these things can be almost dangerous because you're talking about a big car. that tends to understeer a little bit and you know, just because of that, because of the weight and because of the smaller tires and all that kind of stuff, and sometimes that can create a pretty dangerous combination in the wrong hands and, of course, then it jumps hell a vehicle like I said can go over 200 miles per hour pretty easily and man you're talking a ton of power and a ton of torque and if you're not an experienced driver it can actually be pretty dangerous no . not just for yourself but for the people around you so

hellcats

have become kind of an iconic symbol of power it's kind of a status with hellcats and you'll see them in rap videos and you'll see all of them.
why are so many scatpacks hellcats wrecking here s the real reason
These guys, you know, talk about Hellcats and all the power, which is great, don't get me wrong, but like I mentioned before, a lot of these guys go out, they have the money to buy it, and they buy it without really knowing what they're doing. We're getting in there and when you talk about power, yeah man they have an absolute ton of power whether it's the challenger or the supercharged 6.2 liter v8 charger that really gets the job done but the vast majority of people not necessarily everyone watching . this video, but

many

people who can afford these cars and actually own them have no idea about the difference between understeer and oversteer, the difference between a power slide and a skid and how to actually do it and most importantly how to correct it. you actually lose shape in these cars, they just buy them and it's funny because when you talk to a lot of the performance driving instructors and a lot of the guys that have been in the business a long time, they'll tell you that the same way.
why are so many scatpacks hellcats wrecking here s the real reason
Just as dangerous as people who text and drive are these guys who have high powered cars that literally don't know how to drive them and unfortunately the world is full of them so I'm actually on my daily driver this is my uh, my subaru wrx. Still, this car is all-wheel drive, but it brings up a really good point because what happens with a lot of muscle car guys, especially newer ones that aren't used to it, is that they get a little overconfident in not only their own capacity. but the ability of the cars to change direction quickly or do donuts or whatever and they just don't have the knowledge or the ability or both to be safe while doing it right.
One of the most important things is when I'm talking about a rear-wheel drive sports car. You have to drive them so differently in a car like this. This is an all-wheel drive car. It's a pretty advanced all-wheel drive system on this car, so when I drive. I have absolute confidence that it will go exactly where I point it and it almost always does. It's actually very difficult to get this car out of its state, believe it or not, that's really cool in itself and So when I go around corners with this I can, I don't even have to slow down, even in the rain, I barely have to slow down.
This thing just corners like a champ but the truth is when we talk about our beloved challengers and our chargers and really any rear wheel drive car but especially with all the torque in the mopars um you just can't do it that way , here's a full speed corner that never came out of the sword, so, you know, but when we talk about our mopars, it doesn't really work that way, you have to be very diligent with the speed you're taking into a corner to avoid all that understeer to avoid pushing into the corner and into a kind of ditch, of course if the rear end lights you up, which means the rear end is not really planted firmly many times you will be a victim of oversteer where You'll overcorrect and then the car really wants to turn to the inside of whatever curve you're taking, whether it's to the right or left, and that can be equally dangerous because if you go all the way out, the side panel is exposed or the driver's side or the passenger's side. it is exposed on the wide side and that can lead to serious injury or death and although I would do what I mentioned, mopars are actually pretty safe cars, they are very well made, large, heavy and can pose a serious hazard .
When you think about it, you have to know how the car actually feels when it starts to have light in the back and how to deal with that, so when you're in a front-wheel drive car it's not a great idea. You know a problem because you can boost what I mean by that is when you start the car it starts to break down in a front wheel drive car or an all wheel drive car like this you can actually still apply the accelerator and the car will be able to pull out. quite easily in a rear-wheel drive sports car, which can be a very bad move when trying to get out of something that I would really like to include in the scat group and show you exactly what I mean by that now I'm in a scat group and I have to tell you what a difference in torque when you go to this thing and, you know, when I'm driving it's a nice day outside, very dry roads, good surfaces. the car feels very much in control i'm just enjoying the ride uh push the throttle response is very nice it's very firm the car doesn't feel like it's trying to get away from me um it's just a very nice car to drive on the street , this car comes equipped with 245 with eagle rsa2, which are somewhat unnecessarily narrow for a car that makes so much power and torque, and they are also a little firmer, so they are not.
I want to take advantage of them because yes, I realize that they are designed for the masses. The problem is that when you go to put charcoal in this thing, it lights up these tires like you wouldn't believe and you don't know what to do. When the car does that, you can find yourself in pretty big trouble pretty quickly, so that begs the next question, well, racer, how do you combat the problem of knowing the car is getting out from under you, uh, when you have a butt? ? all-wheel drive sports car, especially one like the Challenger, where you have a big block of heavy iron in front of you, so the weight distribution is definitely not 50 50 like it would be, you know, like a corvette or some kind . of a mid-engined car or even you know something that is, um, you know a newer vehicle with a lighter engine, um, you know these cars are front-heavy, so the rear of these things want to move away a little of you over time. on time even on dry pavement because, not only is the front end heavy, but it also generates a lot of torque, well the solution is pretty simple and we always say this in the drag racing world: just let off the damn throttle. just get out of there properly so whenever you feel the back start to light up you need to get out of there relatively quickly and uh there's a big

reason

for that because a lot of times it's going to get away from you before you know it . is the moment that thing starts doing that kind of what I call the death move, which is where it starts moving from side to side, guess what you're just a split second away from going in one direction the one you don't want to go and if your wheels are pointing in the wrong direction guess what exactly you're going so I want to show you what this looks like keep in mind I'm in sport mode here the traction control is on these cars, they have traction control systems, guys, and Help, but at the same time they make enough power to pull away from you completely, so as soon as I feel the car start to let go, if I let the car straighten out by letting go The accelerator.
You'll feel the car come back to center and then everything works as usual in the rain too, so let me demonstrate this to you real quick, so just rolling down the road here we go she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose, she's loose When you let go and it straightens out, the same thing when you turn a corner, if you feel the rear starting to spin to the point where you don't like it, make sure you keep the front wheels pointed in the right direction. and then just let go and everything will come back to center just give it a quick second um but the key is to not let yourself get too angry before you let off the accelerator and it's very true when it also comes to drag racing so can I perform a prolonged wear on this vehicle?
I absolutely turn off the traction control. I can do it all day long and as long as I have the front wheels pointing basically in the right direction and I don't feel like the back of the car is starting to loosen or look a little funny. I can maintain that that comes with practice. Not the kind of thing I would recommend to a new driver. It's a great way to hurt yourself or someone else. or killed, so I wouldn't recommend that I want to just take a second and address something else and you know, without sounding too preachy, it's really important because like I mentioned before, these cars are getting more and more powerful and they're getting more powerful. faster and faster are inherently dangerous, especially in the hands of someone who is immature or doesn't know what they're doing, or both, and at the end of the day, when you're doing this racing stuff and guys who own powerful cars just like it. see how they compare to other people or girls um and you know what that's just part of having a car I get it right I'm not naive um I've done my fair share of racing running whatever is right, but at the end of the day You know, when you're driving cars that go 180 to 200 miles per hour and you're on the highway with other people, keep in mind that it doesn't matter how much skill you have if you're being irresponsible and just plain stupid and someone in a minivan pulls up in front of you. you and you're going 170 miles an hour guess what you're going to kill everyone involved so you know I hate the fact that people run in traffic and they're really stupid about it.
I hate to say it, but there's a right or wrong way to do things, but that's the wrong way to do it. You should never put anyone in danger. I know why you're trying to have fun and honestly, that's kind of irresponsible because you just don'tYou know what other drivers on the road will do if someone stops in front of you going that fast, yeah, bad things. they're going to happen and you see it all the time so that's another thing the other thing is when you drive in the rain guys I mean you know this should be self explanatory it really should be but when you drive a car RWD sports car, whether it's a challenger or a charger, a mustang, a camaro, a vet, whatever, why don't people slow down?
I mean, these cars aren't really designed to be rain master type cars, you know what I mean, can they handle the rain? with the right tire, yes, at somewhat reasonable speeds, but I'll tell you this. I actually wrecked my Hellcat going 35 miles per hour in the rain because it had the wrong tires on the back and there was almost nothing I could do. Do it now, if I see a single drop of rain, I literally pull over to the side of the road. I don't want to go that route, so even with street tires designed by these manufacturers, these cars really aren't the best cars for rain. or inclement weather, so slow and just be smart about it, it's not that hard because you see a lot of wrecked cars, especially sports cars, in the rain.
I see it all the time, so there's nothing wrong with slowing down and even going slower than the speed limit to preserve that vehicle and make sure you don't wreck it. Another quick item of note is when I purchased this Challenger Snap package for Mrs. X, she didn't really have any experience driving a rear wheel. I drive a high horsepower, high torque sports car and literally on like the second or third day I took her out and showed her what it's like to not only drive the car quickly but also what to do in case the car actually starts to run. . loose because it's really not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, and I wanted her to feel comfortable driving the car and having that confidence that if the back wheels start to come out from under her, she'll know exactly how to handle the car and she It does, but it took some practice, so we went out and practiced how to accelerate, when to go up, when to let go, how it feels when the car straightens out and that's something that really everyone who drives these cars should practice. and you saw how easily this challenger can spin the tires pretty much whenever you want and this thing has half the power of my hellcat so you can imagine the hellcat.
I can actually spin the drag spokes which are 305 at about 80 miles an hour so I have to understand it takes a lot of discipline and you just have to be smart with these cars because they make a lot of power so what does it all mean this? Well, it means it's a great time to be a person who loves cars. Who would have thought that the big three American manufacturers would be making factory production cars that make over 750 horsepower that you can just walk into a showroom and buy, but as I mentioned before, that's why we have to be very cautious. and responsibility not only for ourselves but also for other people on the road to keep everyone safe and you know I have a YouTube channel and I care about each and every one of you who are watching this video.
I don't want to see anyone get hurt and I just want to see everyone really enjoy these cars for the use they get, but at the same time be safe so we can all go home to our families at the end of the night, so I hope. You guys agree with my assessment here, like I said, it's crazy how much power these things are putting out, and you just have to have some practice and know what to do when your car dies. in a way, so, you know, it doesn't hurt to go out and put your car through its paces once in a while, just so you know, but it's been fun guys, I really appreciate your support.
I'll see you next time so until then racerx
