There is also a flaw here. That's one of the coolest visual effects fails I've ever seen. This VFX breakdown requires almost as much work (laughs) as the movie. It looks so good. Dude, you're about to see what happens with the spaceship. This is one of the world class destruction shots. You will see some physics simulations. Everything we're seeing here is CG: the buildings, the... Everything. Generation of procedural buildings. Well, that's Houdini. Houdini is

great

at doing procedural builds. The thing is, when you're building these models for destruction, they have to be built a certain way for destruction. You can't just have a hot model and blow it up. The parallels between handling a building or, say, a structure for demolition, really mimic how it would be built in real life.

Because you need to build the structural elements, whether they are made of wood or metal. You want to make sure you have plaster type walls that break in a certain way. Will it bend when hit or break? There are many details. You can't just take a model of a building, click a few buttons, and have it explode properly. You must build it from scratch to simulate it correctly. City- CITY TRAFFIC ALGORITHMS? (laughs) Does that divert traffic? Do you see that...? The little AI says: "Avoid this area?" How that? How many computer hours do you think it took to simulate the final assets used in that job?

I'm not talking about practicing. I mean what was actually used in the final shot. How many hours of processing power? Well, it's a little hard to guess because we don't know how many computers they were using. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Two computers per hour each. A computer two hours. The same thing. Probably like 20 computers, each putting in 100 hours. I think it was much longer than that. I guess 5,000 hours. Imagine hitting Simulate on your PC and walking away for 5000 hours (laughs) and then coming back and watching THAT. (laughing) 208 days! Almost a year.

If we used all the computers in the studio, it would take a MONTH. (laughs) This damn idea is like, "Do you want to see a fucking demo reel? I'll show you a fucking demo reel."
