TOP 20 DOLLAR TREE DIY HOME DECOR PROJECTS | DIY HIGH END DUPES DIY DOLLAR TREE COMPILATION

Apr 28, 2024
Special thanks to Native for sponsoring today's video and also Happy Father's Day, but rather than skip this week due to the holidays, I decided it might be a good idea since we've been doing a lot of Dollar Tree content recently that I would share. With you, some new Dollar Tree

projects

, but also a recap of some of the

projects

we've done as they've been some of our favorites, so without further ado, let's go ahead and get started, thanks for the first new project. We will be making a bronze hanging planter, so to start I grabbed this wooden plaque from the Dollar Tree, as well as this fishbowl style vase, and in order to hang it I also needed to grab a wreath shape, so this wreath shape came from a store secondhand. or the Dollar Tree, but the Dollar Tree has others very similar to this one.

If I bought it at the thrift store, what I was really trying to consider when I was doing this project was that I wanted to make sure that the cable from The Hanger would be disguised a little bit, so I had to make it almost as if it were one piece So I started with a flathead screwdriver making marks in the middle of this wooden board once I could carve enough so that the hoop could fit in and the fish tank would sit nice and flush with that wooden board. . Now I just needed to glue everything together with some adhesives, so I started with a lot of super glue just to make sure everything was going well. so it would stay nice and intact and then I applied a little bit of hot glue just to give it a secure hold initially before I added my spray paint so for the spray paint I decided to start with this Krylon Satin Black but I felt like I felt a little boring so I decided to use a couple of gold spray paint combinations I had on hand just to give it a little more variation and then added a sealer by grabbing some floral foam from the Dollar.

Tree and some remains of flowers that I had on hand. I'm just going to hot glue the bottom of the floral foam so it doesn't come off because it will be quite

high

. I just decided to add enough hot glue to type. of securing everything in place and then adding the floral foam inside, although I feel like Dollar Tree has definitely upped their game in the faux flower department. I just wanted to use something I already had, but of course you could use flowers from the Dollar Tree, if that's your preference, I'll just cut them to the appropriate size and hang them using this suede ribbon I have on hand.

This project only ended up costing me about five

dollar

s and I think it looks great in my office abroad. Next we will be doing a large scale stone wall art, so to start I grabbed this black cardstock from Dollar Tree, as well as this hula hoop, which will work as our frame for this wall art piece, so to start I simply removed the sticker on the hula-hoop and then I also grabbed several packs of Black River Rock Stones. I traced the hula hoop around the cardstock and then cut it out and joined the two together. using a combination of super glue gel and hot glue to make it one complete piece, so I started by just laying all the stones on their sides because I thought it would look better.

I knew it was going to take longer that way. because obviously you're going to use a lot more rocks, but I ran into a little problem. The problem I'm running into is that the weight of this is getting to be too much for this little cardstock, so I think. The best thing now is to make a kind of frame like this because obviously you are using a lot more rocks and you put them on their sides because they will cover less surface area, so I think that is the best now. What we need to do is basically create a frame by doing it this way and then we'll lay them flat this way so we don't overload the cardstock and it will just fall apart because I wanted to make this a totally Dollar Tree project.
I also picked up this picture hanging kit from Dollar Tree and started by just drilling small holes on each side so I could attach this wire that also came in that same picture hanging kit. To relieve some of the pressure that would be on this cable, I added a lot of 3M stickers to the back that you can also get at Dollar Tree. This piece of wall art cost about ten

dollar

s and gives it this kind of organic feel. and an earthy feel in my bedroom space, as I mentioned above, today's video is sponsored by Native who has an amazing line of body washes that use clean, effective and simple ingredients, so simple that you and I can understand them.
Native body washes are made using plant-based cleansers as well as being sulfate- and dye-free, and are also vegan and cruelty-free, so those are qualities I look for when choosing a body wash without sacrificing scents, so for summer I love this citrus and herbal musk in the morning if I'm showering, but I love using sandalwood and shea butter or coconut and vanilla. If I take a bubble bath after the kids have gone to bed, it's the perfect way to end the night, so for me personally, guys, you know I love

decor

ating with nature. I love natural scents, but if you like something a little spicier or want something a little sweeter, there's an option for everyone.

We'll be making some marble wall hooks, so a really easy way to get a marble base is to use old trophies. You can also find them in second-hand stores. I made a marble based project that was a Dollar Tree project in the past, but this time I wanted to make some really pretty wall hooks for my bathroom so I grabbed an old trophy base and grabbed several different hooks from the Dollar Tree just to see which one I liked best and I ended up choosing these. get two for a dollar and 25 cents.
I also tried these magnetic ones which I thought would be more appropriate maybe as an office space but I decided I needed hooks for my bathroom and this was going to be a good solution so I grabbed some super glue gel also from the Dollar Tree and I'm just adding small amounts of super glue gel to both the top and bottom of where the trophy used to be inserted. The great thing about this is that you can actually do it. Use that hole to hang it on the wall too, so once I added enough super glue gel, I added one of the hooks from the Dollar Tree, straightened it out, and then clamped it so it would stay nice and secure. on that exactly, I cut the screws so that they are basically

decor

ative and that's how they turned out strange.
The next project will be the face of the worn jug. Seeing all the distressed pottery pieces at Pottery Barn really inspired this project and you can definitely create a similar look using things from Dollar Tree it will just take a lot of steps so I started with a glass base which I spray painted again with just that spray paint white chalk just to level everything out and make my clay stick better. This clay also came from the Dollar Tree and you only need a little bit because basically the first thing we're going to do is create these little handles that you see on a lot of pottery pieces.
I started by simply rolling out the clay. and then I simply cut four equal sections and applied them to this face with the basic structure done. Now is the time to paint a lot like this spray paint because it gives a super matte black even more than the flat one. It still has a little bit of shine to it, whereas this is like completely matte black spray paint, so I love it, so I just jumped back and forth between this one and this one, then this one, then this one, until I liked it. There are a lot of layers in there, so with this one you can see that it's almost empty, but I think now I'll lightly sprinkle it with this and then we'll seal it.
The last thing I did was apply flour and cinnamon to add back to that worn quality that you'll see a lot in

high

end ceramic pieces it's definitely a very buildable project, you could add a lot of distressing or a little bit of distressing, it's totally your personal preference but you should finish. Think about something like this if you're like me and like a lot of texture and layers. Pottery Barn tends to use a lot of olive stems in their flower arrangements, but the ones from Dollar Tree aren't the best. I'll link them Below in the description box, my favorite and that's how this project came about.
Again there were a lot of steps, but I still think I was able to save a lot of money because I already had a lot of the things on hand the next time. The project will be the glass table lamp inspired by something I had seen at Crate and Barrel, so to start I grabbed the taller of the two sizes of the hurricane vase, which is nine inches tall and then I grabbed this glass lampshade. second hand for a couple of dollars and I'm just going to place this on top just to make sure the proportions look right so this actually works as a light.
Of course, you could use these lights from the Dollar Tree, but I prefer the ones from Amazon, so I can just use my remote to turn it on and off and this is the end result. I actually added two Puck lights so it was lit from both above and below, but this was a super affordable way to get this high-end look on an inexpensive foreign pottery. Barn for summer, they had a lot of coastal inspiration with seashells and seashell vases and I knew we could create a similar look using some materials from Dollar Tree, so I started with one of these vases from Dollar Tree and spray painted it. in a matte white finish and then I grabbed some bags of seashells also from the Dollar Tree and we're just going to place these shells on this face, so I actually started at the top instead of the bottom for this project so that To have sort of an overlay effect, I also focused on the smaller shells at the top which would get progressively larger and then while the vase was at its largest size I used the largest shells and then narrowed basically following the silhouette of the vase , another thing I did was just make sure that that specific shell fit in that specific place, um, well before I added my hot glue around the perimeter of the inside of each shell, so like I said, I just sharpened it. focusing on the small shells on the top and bottom and the larger shells in the middle and that really wrapped up this project.
This was a super affordable way to get this kind of Pottery Barn coastal inspiration that I really loved for the summer season. The next project was inspired by something I had seen on the CB2 website and was to make a black leather tray. Crate and Barrel has so many amazing options for Trace, but they are often very expensive, so I grabbed this frame that I actually got for free. at a garage sale it was broken so I fixed it with some super glue gel and then I just spray painted it black and then from the Dollar Tree I grabbed some stuff.
I also picked up a package of that faux leather fabric. in black and one of these types of wooden pieces. I'm not exactly sure what people use them for, but I decided it would fit the tray perfectly. I didn't want to use a canvas just because that way it wouldn't be totally straight when you would place something so I thought this was a better option, I attached everything with some super glue gel and then I also added some handles on top that I had left over when we remade. our kitchen and that really wrapped up this project.
I think for under five bucks this looks really high end on a budget, next project is to make a faux potted fern so while I was at Pottery Barn I saw this faux potted fern for 59 and me. I really loved it. I almost considered buying it, but I thought we could probably find something a little more affordable at Dollar Tree, so while you're looking at the ferns at Dollar Tree, there's a specific one you want to get: this one. one here, not the one that looks really fake. I also bought this one from the thrift store just to give it a little variation and it was only 25 cents so to start I ended up using a bowl I already had but you can. of course, I used a bowl from the Dollar Tree because that bowl from Pottery Barn was a real pot and mine is just a glass bowl.
I had to add many different types of spray paint, so I started with a stone spray paint and then went in to give it a reddish terracotta tone. I used this sea glass spray paint that I had on hand and then used this high heat spray paint to finish it. Another thing that pot had was some kind of moss. growing on top, so once all the spray paints were dry, I sealed it, brought it inside and used some paints from Dollar Tree to create this type of faux mossaround the top of this pot. Using a paper towel just because I think that gave it the most organic look and not super perfect because the Pottery Barn one was like that too so once the pot was finished it was time to add our Styrofoam so I wanted to use these Styrofoam balls here so that way they would have a little bit of variation instead of using them as a square which would be very flat, so again using some Black River Rock stones, I'm just going to use hot glue. these were put into place after we added our ferns and this is how our potted faux asparagus fern from the Dollar Tree turned out strange.
Shopping at Pottery Barn, much of the decor that was put up in the store during the summer had a lot of frosted glass and sometimes it was tinted but sometimes it was just regular frosted glass so the easiest thing you can do is grab any glassware from the Dollar Tree in this example I'm going to show you is to make some frosted glass candle holders so I also grabbed two of these fluted taper candle holders, as well as some frosted glass spray paint, so to get started, I'm actually going to spray paint these pink taper candle holders white with a linen white chalk paint that I already had around. hand and I'm also going to apply two or three coats of frosted glass spray paint on the hurricane vases before combining everything.
So that was good, but I wanted to add a little something extra to the top of these, so I'm going to use some metallic gold spray paint all the way to the top. I didn't know where my gold leaf was at the time. otherwise I probably would have used that, but I had this in my garage so I decided to use it. I'm just going to spray a little bit into the cup and then I'm going to grab a foam brush from the Dollar Tree and I'm just going to line it. the perimeter of the base of the hurricane, once the top of them were coated with that gold spray paint, then I went in and added the taper candle as well as the taper candle holder and then I filled it with sand so you couldn't see it. that fluted and tapered chandelier and it looked a little more summery and fresh and I love the way they turned out.
This was also one of his boys favorite projects and was super simple to create so the next project was making these pedestals. chandeliers, so they were inspired by the Athena Calderone release through Crate and Barrel, but they were pretty expensive so I thought we could definitely create something on a budget using some materials from Dollar Tree, so to start I went to the hardware store and picked up these pipes. here, which are three quarters of an inch in diameter again, of course, you could use a bowl from the Dollar Tree, but I actually found these that I liked a little more because they already had a similar color story to what I was trying to replicate.
So to start, I'm just going to apply Super Glue gel directly to the center of these bowls and only add enough so that it can adhere, but I also don't want a lot of glue spilling out of the bottom. so for the interior I wanted to match the inside of the bowls to the outside of the bowl so I started with this multi texture spray paint which was much more diffuse than stone spray paint because it was just a subtle texture not a texture real stone-like, and then I used this ultra matte khaki spray paint to even everything out, so for the pedestal part I contemplated using a glass base or a cup turned upside down. from the Dollar Tree, but I actually opted for these candle holders.
I added super glue gel around the perimeter of the top of this candle holder and then glued it to the bottom of the container and this was the final result. I think this really looks like. Stylish and was much more affordable than anything I saw at Crate and Barrel. The next project is to make a succulent Bowl. Pottery Barn has so many different options of really beautiful succulents and they look really beautiful, but they are very expensive, so again. Of course, you can use a bowl from Dollar Tree or you can try to find something at your local thrift store, so the one I found at the thrift store was perfect for this project, but I ended up picking up the succulents at Dollar Tree, so once I brought these succulents

home

and tried to play with them in this pot I bought at the thrift store, I was not thrilled with how vibrant the succulents were because if you ever get a chance to go to Pottery Barn you can see that They are a little more dim, so I just separated all the pieces that were attached, either as a small pot or a clip, and I made holes in this pot, but before I permanently attached them, I decided to try something and that is to take some paint spray frosted just to mattify them and not make them as vibrant because it's more similar to what I had seen at Pottery Barn once it had dried, then I permanently attached them using a little hot water. glue and this is how it turned out strange for the next project is to make a frosted glass garland while I was at Pottery Barn I saw that they had many types of jute frosted glass garlands in their store, but again, quite expensive, so I grabbed some The Leftover old ornaments that were clear got a few coats of frosted glass and spray paint as well as some white paint to give it this kind of salty look, grab some jute rope from the Dollar too.
Tree. I'm going to use that to string these ornaments now here to make a garland, so the only thing I had to do if you don't have this tool that might be a little tricky is I. I had to create a hole in the bottom of each ornament so that it could function almost like a bead, so I used my heat tool. They sell this on Amazon here, which is where I bought mine, so I can link that for you in the description box below. I also wanted to trim the top of the ornaments so they weren't so hot, so once I got them through I just tied a knot at the top and then added. a little bit of hot glue to make sure it stayed in place.
I ended up using 10 ornaments for this project and a strand of jute twine and spaced each one about two inches apart and that's how this garland came out. The next step is to make a faux design book, so for this project I was inspired by anthropology, they have a lot of beautiful books on

home

decor and I like to go to anthropology to see how they design them on tables, dressers and things like that, so when I came across this book at Dollar Tree it was large enough in scale to fit this A.D linen bag that I bought at my thrift store for only a dollar, so I thought, what if I just covered this book Dollar Tree with this linen fabric?
The only kind of problem I found with this project is that even though this Dollar Tree book is huge, it still wasn't big enough to fit the entire chart, so that's the only thing I don't necessarily love about this project, but basically I just did my best to center the seam on the spine of the book so I could grab as much of that graphic as possible once the graphic was centered on the book as best as possible. Then just some scissors. and I went in and just removed that section that you don't need from the spine so you can get nice, clean cuts on the inside of the book.
Most importantly also when you're working with similar letters in graphics and things like that, you don't want to pull the fabric too tight, otherwise it'll end up wavy in the book itself tucking in and gluing all those loose ends together and I'm sure one day it will definitely I'll splurge on this. 99 architectural overview book, but for now this is a good substitute for the next project which is to do some coastal artwork, so I have a couple of different options here, so the first option is to just grab a frame. I found this one at the thrift store and I grabbed a bag of seashells, so all I saw on the Pottery Barn website was that they had seashells spread across a canvas and it looked almost like they were plastered, so I also took some putty and some white acrylic paint and mixed the two together and painted mostly seashell glue on the canvas.
I think this is a really easy way to get some coastal art that is still pretty neutral and on a budget, another easier option for some wall art ideas is to grab a reproduction wall art from the Dollar Tree and to cut it out of the canvas and add a little bit of shine to it and just do it with a brush so it almost looked like an oil painting, I basically just made little x marks to give it that movement that you would normally see in an oil painting and put it back in a second hand frame hand I already had for the next project: making a pleated wood vase, so I grabbed several packs of these wood planks here from Dollar Tree and I think you get six in a pack and I ended up using three packs total, so I also grabbed a hurricane vase and the first thing I'm going to do is just spray paint it brown.
I tried this spray paint, but it was just turning too orange, so I used a darker brown spray paint and it seemed to work a little better as the spray paint dried. Then I used some brown gel dye and tinted everything. These wooden planks both the front and the back and the sides to make sure everything was covered very well after I sealed everything with some polyacrylic, then I re-applied some super glue gel and applied super glue gel on the sides of all these. wood planks I just made sure that if I added one to one side, I bounced it on the other side just to make sure everything was spaced as wide as possible.
I didn't measure anything. I just did this. In my eyes, it turned out really well when invaders can often be quite expensive, especially at stores like Crate and Barrel, so I think you can get this type of sculptural wood base look on a budget using materials from Dollar Tree. The next step is I made some iron candle holders so to start I grabbed one of these I think they are candle holders I just took the top piece off and then I found out that these candle holders are like cheap metal from the Dollar Tree and just to raise them up a little bit, I'm going to add some super glue gel on the inside of these and place them inside here so now they're like a more substantial piece of home decor to give them more of an iron look again with this multi color textured spray paint which just gives it a little bit of texture, not full on Stone spray paint and then I'll use some flat black spray paint and this one was in a nice flat finish and I really love the way they turned out.
I still have them in my son's room and I think they look much more luxurious, but they only cost five dollars overseas to transfer to wall art, so Crate and Barrel has a lot of beautiful things. options, but they are often very expensive, for example, this piece of wall art costs almost 300 and you won't be able to find exactly that at Dollar Tree. What you'll find are these pre-cut pieces of wood here, so here I am. At Dollar Tree looking like a crazy person laying out the orientation of what I had in mind, I ended up buying 10 pieces total and then placed them on the back of a frame I already had so I could get an idea of the spacing and then put all the pieces together so I could see where I needed to attach all the pieces, so I took a ruler and a pencil and made my marks around this piece, so I could know where I was going to need to drill on each side.
I used a 1 16 inch drill bit and drilled directly into the center of each of the sides of these pieces of wood and then for the wire, obviously you can use something. from Dollar Tree, but I just wanted to use something that was sturdy and something I already had, so I'm going to take the wire from these old hangers and use it to connect the pieces. I cut each of the cables. approximately two and a half inches long, allowing room to go inside each piece of wood. Then I'm going to take some 220 grit sandpaper and sand down all the rough spots and pencil marks that way I have a smooth surface to stain with all the surfaces prepped now I'm just going to grab this Minwax stain it's a gel stain in brown color I'm going to take a paper towel and I'm going to stain the entire fronts of these wood pieces I ended up splitting this piece in half so I made the bottom half and then worked on the top half once they were both complete, now it's time to connect them so I'm just going to take my cables again using the holes I had drilled and connect them with a little super glue gel on each side of the cable finishing the edges with a little dark brown paint and this was the end result when it comes to glassware. pieces I feel like obviously when they are larger scale you will pay more unless you go to the thrift store like I do, but when it comes to smaller scale pieces I always suggest going to the Dollar Tree or the thrift store becauseessentially you can find the exact same thing that is much cheaper, so for example, using the hurricane bases again from the Dollar Tree, I actually found them at the thrift store, although for only 30 cents they are perfect. and they look a lot like these from Crate and Barrel, but are a fraction of the cost, even the simple Hurricane bases here are essentially exactly the same, but for only a dollar and 25 cents, fill them with your favorite flowers and you can have them. such a similar look on a budget really next project is to make a pleated wall sconce so one material that Crate and Barrel uses quite a bit is stone so to start I grabbed two napkin rings from Dollar Tree as well as a few packages of these pegs here and I'm going to line them up around these napkin rings and make them almost like an appliqué.
The first thing I had to do was attach the napkin rings and I did this using some zip ties and then I simply removed the excess again. I'm going to use those Amazon discs just because I like having the ability to use a remote control and I'm just going to hot glue each individual peg as straight as possible around the napkin. The brackets that are now combined lining up perfectly was the part most tedious thing about this project because if one got crooked, all the next ones would be crooked too, so I just wanted to keep them nice and straight and then I went in with some white spray paint, but one thing that bothered me was that there were like little balloons of hot glue that I could still see, so I was disguising myself, so then I went in with some stone spray paint, but it was still gone. good enough so I took some putty from the Dollar Tree and mixed it with some acrylic paint and then painted that mixture on this birthday wall sconce and laughed but certainly the most important thing is to make a stone vase , as I mentioned several times in this video.
Crate and Barrel incorporates a lot of stone into their decor and if you watch my Crate and Barrel thrifting video you'll know that I use these little white stones from the Dollar Tree to embellish this wooden mirror so that's definitely a way to use these stones. white, but another way and definitely a lot less time consuming is to find a vase whose shape you like in a store you like and then try to replicate it as best as possible using a glass base from the Dollar Tree, so I used this face here for this project. I finished the top of the vase first and then worked on the bottom, so the nice thing about this project is that there is no adhesive because Spackle really holds the stones in place. very good once it hardened, so I added a decent layer of Spackle around there and then I added the stones and pressed them into the Spackle and it's like a puzzle, you just want to make sure all your pieces fit together. well, but even if they don't, Spackle almost resembles Stone in his own way, so it's a great medium to use for a project like this.
I had a lot of those stones left over from making the mirrors so I was happy to be able to use more of these in this project but it's a really affordable way to get a high end inspired type of design on a budget and that about sums it up. for today's video. Let me know in the comments which of these Dollar Tree DIY projects were your favorites and also don't forget to check out the link in the description box below using the code Garcia DIY to get 20 off your first native order. I promise you won't regret it and I will.
