Supercharge your V6 or Buy the V8 R/T? What you need to know!

Apr 16, 2024
welcome back to the Racer

supercharge

your

V6 or just buy the V8 so today I'm buying a couple of cars we'll talk about it if you're new to my channel don't forget to hit subscribe you can find that button here and hit that notification bell. so you'll get a notification when all my new content comes out and here we go and directly behind me are the two cars that I wanted to compare for you today which is a 2023 Challenger RT with a 5.7L V8 and this is a 2023 Challenger GT with a 3.6L Penar V6 engine and really the question we are asking is whether it is better to

supercharge

your

V 6 or just go ahead and buy the V8 model, so let's get into it.

These two cars look quite similar when you look at them from the outside. On the outside you can see that the grille is a little different on this RT than on the GT. Neither of these two versions comes with a wide body, you only get it on the Scat Pack and Hellcat, but the engine is definitely different. That's right, this 5.7L naturally aspirated V8, uh, 375 horsepower but like 410 pound-feet of torque and you can really feel that V8 when you drive it compared to this, this is the pentar V6, the kind of horse of the stable, this is the most popular Challenger model. because it's the least expensive and makes about 268 lb-ft of torque, so 305 horsepower is significantly less on this GT model, they make an SXT that's basically the same car without the hood, both original cars. it would come with 245 as seen here on this GT, this of course is a version so it has some upgrades, so it comes with 275, the black hood, the black roof, all that kind of stuff, but of Indeed, a very different power plant. and when you talk about whether you want the horsepower of the naturally aspirated V8 or you want a V6 with a supercharger, you're actually talking about pretty similar power figures, so let's get into it now, one might wonder why on earth you would buy. a V6 Challenger over a V8 after all the RT is the prototype of the iCal muscle car with a big fire breathing V8 of course you'll get that V8 sound in the rear 410lbs of torque and I love the RT trim I have .

More Interesting Facts About,

supercharge your v6 or buy the v8 r t what you need to know...

I always said it's perfect for the street and I really love the way this engine sounds, this car sounds, you really won't get any sound, however there is a huge price difference between these two so if you're anyone that actually It's buying a car on a limited budget or you don't have a lot of money to spend on insurance. This is actually the better of the two options in GT or SXT trim versus the more expensive V8, a difference of $99,000 if We're comparing the base price to the base price and of course you can put different things on these cars to make them more expensive, so really the spirit of this video is should you go ahead and buy the GT model or the SXT model and then later put a supercharger on it to make V8 like power, or should you just buy the V8 up front, just bite the bullet and do it, so that's really the most important thing.

Here I am now aboard the Challenger GT and I will freely admit it. It doesn't necessarily tick all the boxes for someone like me who is a hardcore Gear Head, a racer, a performance enthusiast, because that's not really

what

this model was designed for. It's not made to be a racing car. He has a six. -cylinder there, it is made to save fuel, it is cheaper on insurance, all that is good, but this model drives very well. I've always maintained that I like the way the SXT and GT models drive, no they don't have a lot of bubble.

V8 in the back but they really tick a lot of boxes for someone who is looking for a nice little car to start with if you are a younger person and maybe not everyone wants a fire breathing V8 and this thing does. all very well, it's a well balanced car, it does a lot of really good things and I've talked to a lot of people who started with a six cylinder version, be it an SXT or a GT, and then ended up supercharging the car because they wanted more power later and they just wanted, instead of buying a V8, they just wanted to work with

what

they had and I can definitely respect that and they ended up really liking the way the car performed with a supercharger on.
It's a bit more of a sleeper car, so if you like that kind of motif, you might really like going this route, no, it doesn't have that bubbling V8 in the back, it doesn't have that 410. Foot-pounds of torches that they nail you right off the bat, which you get in the RT version, but it increases performance a lot when you go to a supercharged version of this and there are a couple of different options you can use with that. The owner of a 6 cylinder engine might consider the first option I want to talk about and this was the only viable option that was available for quite some time: a supercharger from a company called Rip rip, they make centrifugal force superchargers for the V6 and when you look at these cars on the road, mainly this kit is what you are going to find and people love this stuff, 6200 dollars, yes it seems like a lot of money, but keep in mind that if the RT costs $99,000 more, you are going to get Even more power from your six-cylinder is not necessarily a bad option, of course, you can opt for these options.
You can get different finishes on the main unit. I mean, there are other things you can add to it, certainly, if I want to go to the E85 and add all the other things you

need

to do that, but basically I'm talking about the basic kit here, 11 to 12 pounds of boost and they'll add about 175 horsepower to your car and you can literally put this together in a weekend. Their website says they recommend professional installation. Of course your kit will come with some sort of bass tune if you use the stock pulley, all that kind of stuff, but this is a really good kit. a really good option.
I want to show you a little clip from one of their YouTube videos about their kit, so what you'll see here is a supercharger that's mounted centrally on the engine, a front-mounted intercooler low in the bumper, a bunch of plumbing. that spin and carry air around the engine naturally, has injectors and map sensors and a few tweaks that make it a complete 415 horsepower kit at the rear wheels. You can see here that we also have a huge amount of torque. We're eclipsing 350 lbs of torque with the vehicle's starter supercharger over 200 horsepower over 200 lbs of torque a Bolton one Mod 0 to 60 will be faster your quarter m will be faster and your fuel mileage will increase As you can See, the starter kit is a very good option if you want to add power to your six cylinder and the other option I was going to mention is from ProCharger and I

know

Pro Charger has been working on the design of this kit for quite some time.
While this kit hasn't been available for that long it's really clean and I love this option, around $6,300 so just a little more than the removal kit of course you can also upgrade them with a tuner kit to be able to make similar horsepower, but your base kit comes with 7 PSI, it will add approximately 125 horsepower to your six cylinder and will be an easy and very reliable powerhouse. You can literally wear it with a friend in a day. They say no professional installation is required. a little patience and some hand tools and you can literally screw it right in.
It comes with your calibration or your tune, so you really don't

need

to do anything more than just spend a day with a friend and bolt it on for around $6,300 to add $125 of reliable horsepower, you can keep it pump gas and all that kind of stuff and as I mentioned if you want to power it with the type 85, it's the same as the removal kit, but a super clean install, it's certainly reversible. um you don't have to cut anything uh they just made it very easy and I love this project charger kit and everything I've heard about the ProCharger kit on the 6 cylinder Challenger GT and SXT has been extremely positive and it makes These cars are really fun to drive.
The engineers at ProCharger went to great lengths to make sure these supercharger systems were 100% complete and could bolt onto the car without any other modifications, meaning you don't have to use exhausts you don't have. To get into the engine you don't have to make pistons, camshafts, anything, nothing, you just take what's in the box, read the full color instructions and start bolting it on the way these systems make big profits and do it in a safe way. It's because they combine a highly efficient centrifugal-style supercharger with a front-mounted air-to-air intercooler. One of the things we are always asked is how to drive well.
They drive like stock. They start as standard. All the things you would do. I expect this V6 to make 305 horsepower right off the bat, you add like 120 horsepower to it, you're talking about over 400 horsepower at the crank, that's incredibly awesome from the American V6, talking about America, in fact, a lot of supercharged cars, whether you have a removal kit or whether you have a procharging kit, actually outperform the RT quite a bit and I think that's pretty cool, one day it's worth the work and you're running RT V8s pretty awesome. I thought I'd go ahead and take this Challenger GT down the road for a couple of minutes and yeah it's not setting the world on fire, like I mentioned before it's not a race car but this thing drives great and just sitting in it it doesn't.
I don't feel that different from any of the other Challenger models I've driven and I've literally driven them all hundreds of times and they're all fantastic to drive in their own right, but nothing can be taken away from them. With this version it is not unpleasant to drive just because it does not have VA. Yes, when I upload it, it's pretty quiet, but I do think about the fact that with this version you're not going. to get a lot of the typical blowouts, your cold air intakes, your exhaust and all that kind of stuff, they just don't add much to this car, really the way to make power in these cars is to put a supercharger in them.
I

know

it's kind of expensive to do at first, but it makes them a lot more fun and wakes up these cars, rather than just throwing in little things here, you know, here and there, and I've always encouraged people to make your car yours, but it just can't be done. any power from these cars with just your little bolts here and there, but when you accelerate it definitely makes a big difference, this GT is really a great model to drive and I will say it definitely gets out of its own way as you go. I'm driving it, it's very interesting because everyone wants to compare them to V8s, which have significantly more torque, more power, and then you have this one, everyone thinks it's automatically slow, but it's really interesting how our expectations have changed over time. time because I remember it.
Back in 2002 when I had my Ram Air Trans Am, guess how many horsepower it made, 305, which is exactly what it makes, and I thought that thing was a fire breathing monster, yes it had a V8, but technically that car It was slower than this, uh, six. -Cylinder naturally aspirated V6 and uh, it's interesting how things change over time, how our expectations change in a moment, what was once quite fast is now incredibly slow in many people's minds, but I think this is an excellent supercharged version. a fantastic finish Fant, so in the past I always said to be careful when doing modifications to the six cylinders, but the more I research the better the kits get that get all that kind of stuff, the more I tell you I know what I would choose if You don't care about the warranty, that's really the most important thing.
If you buy the V8, you will get it with a warranty. With this one, once you overload it, it kills the warranty on the thing, so keep in mind I'm going to jump on RT real quick. Now I'm on board the RT and I will say I'm sitting here looking at the sticker price of the RT and I realize this is literally as decorated as you can get an RT and I love the TA package this one has the plus package and basically almost everything you can put in an RT. I didn't know you could do a RT it was $62535, almost $63,000. rt57 um so it's not a cheap car by any means, yes you can add money to the GT as I mentioned before.
In fact, I've seen several that are between 40 and 40 for a GT um and maybe they can go a little higher than that. I just didn't know you could get a $63,000 RT after driving the RT for a while. Yes, I freely admit that there is a fairly substantial difference in both torque and horsepower compared to the six-cylinder engine, as that would certainly be expected. there's more noise coming out the back, it feels a lot more like a traditional muscle car than an SXT or a GT, obviously you know with all the extra power you can shred the tires on this thing, yeah it's got a really nice feel to it.
Someone like me, butLike I said, you put a supercharger on that SXT or GT, it's probably going to feel very similar to this once again. Oh, I love the RT trim on the street, it's such a nice car, so yeah, I mean, if you're a performance enthusiast and can rock the 8 cylinder. I highly recommend it. I've always loved V8s, obviously, with V8s disappearing in place of hurricane cars and EVS, all that kind of stuff. This RT is absolutely magnificent. The thing to have, um, but don't be afraid to buy a six-cylinder car, that's my only purpose in this video: don't be afraid to not only buy one, but don't be afraid to throw a supercharger on one. and have fun with it like I said it all really depends on how much money you have floating around if you don't want to pay for V8 insurance I mean a lot of different variables um so just make your car your own which will do it for this one really It's a matter of built versus bought right now what your budget is These are the two most affordable Challenger trims out there Both are absolutely fantastic Would you rather buy a six cylinder and supercharge it to get the same power or would you rather just buy the V8 up front.
It's really up to you, it depends on what your budget is. Can you pay the insurance? There is nothing good or bad. Both models are absolutely great, let me know. Which one do you like better in the comments below and I'll see you in the next one, so until then Racer X?
