Jun 04, 2021
Welcome back to Julie's Crown Boutique. I have an order for this

wreath

and instead of just making it and shipping it, I thought what was one of the most frequently asked questions I get about making

wreath

s and the most questions I get is why? you use zip ties and then you use pipe cleaners sometimes, so tonight I'm going to demonstrate the difference. This wreath will use pipe cleaners and I'll show you why it uses pipe cleaners, so we'll just do a simple set of

flower

s. This was a wreath that literally put my business on the map, it went viral on Facebook years ago and it got me into a nice house and keeping calm and swatching a magazine with the wreaths and stuff, so this is like the crown that began. all to myself, so to speak, but I have an original video, but I tried to explain it in a way that doesn't flatten any of your petals, so let's get started.

I already cut a roll. of 10 inch polyester burlap, that's what you see here and I also cut five pieces of 10 inch olive green polyester burlap and cut them to 11 inches and that's my sheet. I want my leaf to stick out a little bit. little and you're going to need some pipe cleaners, let's start with my trusty 10-inch wire wreath frame. I buy them at Chrome Consumer Crafts dot-com, they cost like a dollar 57 per frame, they are very sturdy and Honestly, this is the way to

make

a wreath. If you want to save money, if you want to

make

money, you have to think about what you put in your wreath and how much you spend making it, so let's talk about our wreath, okay?

Let's talk about the frame, this is a 10 inch frame and it has five sections, a 12 inch frame would have six and so on, so basically what I want you to think about is that each section has certain locations for your petals, like this We're going to put the first set of petals on this outer support right here and that's where all the outer leaves and petals will be, so the next place you're going to go is the center support. If you put a leaf on two petals here, we'll put two petals here and then the third place will be the inside of that holder, so originally you had two petals and one leaf here and eventually you'll have two. petals right here, so that would be the inside spot, so what I do is I take my pipe cleaner and I'm just going to try to show you this as easy as I can.

I'll take the pipe cleaner from below and I'll do it. wrap it around that frame, okay, so that when we have our petal it's between this front part of the frame and this part of the frame and that's not going anywhere, so what do I do first? Well, I'm going to take the green leaf and it's the curly side up, I'm going to meet it in the middle and then I'm just going to put it together, I'm going to turn it over and then I'm going to put it on that pipe cleaner and just turn it once, okay, step two.

I'm going to take a yellow piece. Now they were all cut to 10 inches each. One of the reasons I like the tenant frame is that I can use a roll of polyester burlap. make me a beautiful

sun

flower

, so we'll do the same method we did with the green one and we'll just put it together, turn it over and put it right in the middle of that pipe cleaner and I'll just turn it around. Once it's okay, I'm not going to untie anything. I'll just keep putting them on top of each other and just do one twist.
Okay, let's do one more. Okay, a twist. Now I have my two petals on top of my leaf. So now I'm going to take my two ends and I'm going to wrap them around this sensor with a bar in front of it, so I'm going to flip it over here and show you that I'm not going to pull too much. I could pull it all the way and then my petal would look like this. I don't want my petal like this. I just want to pull it enough and twist it enough so that it gives a little bit of dimension to my petal.
That's all. I'm not going to make it go forward, it just goes up like this, then you have a problem, your flower is too tight there, so there still has to be a little bit more, okay? I have this puddle outside. Now I'm going to do the next outer petals so I can do my backing method and I'll show you that in a moment, so let's go ahead and put our pipe cleaner back on. to wrap that pipe cleaner around the outside edge here take a green piece place it on the pipe cleaner take another piece here I have too much I'm okay, I'm pretending and we're going to do the same thing we just said okay.
I'm going to take that and spin it once it's there. I cut all of this with a wood stove and I'll leave a link below on how to easily and simply cut burlap with a wood stove, that's all. so I'm just going to attach it to that front mount to give it a little bit of definition, okay, and then you're just going to rotate it, so this is my backing method originally when I showed this video. we would do all the outside, then we would do all the middle, and then we would do all the inside of the stand.
This is a rollback method and this method will allow me to remove some of this here, this method will allow it. You shouldn't go back and work above this and what I've discovered is that by not working above this, your flower petals will be in much better condition when you're done, so I'm going to take my pipe cleaner and I'm going to wrap it around of the central section. See what I did? These two bars. I'm going to take a pipe cleaner and wrap it around it and now I have a good place for my two petals. now there are no leaves so we'll just take two petals and place one - okay, so what do we do now?
We are going to do the same, we are going to unite it. I always tell you to go ahead and Since we don't have a cross bar, we're going to use this front bar in front of it, so all I'm going to do is take my cable or my pipe cleaners, not my cables, so ones on either side of that inner wire and I'm just going to bring it in and twist it a little bit and you can even wrap it around the frame there, okay, look how we're getting some dimension, so what are we going to do next?
We'll do this outside and then I'm going to do this middle and then I'll go back and do the inside, so I'll show you that when I come back, okay, so I added two more sets of petals and did the same thing, let me get. a normal frame here we did the outside of the middle the outside of the middle and now we're going to go back to the inside of these two because once you have two middles done then you have a place for the inside, okay and that's what I have right Now, so what I'm going to do is the same thing, I'm just going to take a pipe cleaner and this is what's different than the zip ties because I'm layering the petals, so if you can see here, I put it. right around that inner frame, okay, so we're going to take two of our ten inch pieces of poly burlap and make two petals and we're just going to place them here, okay, at this point you know that your petals are going to be stiff and sticking out, so I won't be lying down so let's take one more so I just put it in there and did a twist and now I'm going to put another one in so what do I do now?
I'm going to take these two pipe cleaners and I'm just going to take it back underneath I hope you can see this and I'm going to twist it I'm not going to tighten it too much this is one of the mistakes people make is they tighten it too well I'm trying to see the camera and my hands at the same time, so excuse me for a moment, okay, so we'll just put them in there and I'll go through them and trim off all the extra ends of our pipe cleaner, but that c- up a little too far. , but okay, I'm going to fold it back, okay, but that way you're starting with your petals and I'm not going to go back and do the middle and then do the inside and risk putting my hands on it, okay, like this that I'm going to move them and I like to move them, so now that we're in this part, I'm going to go back outside and do this set right here. a metal and then I do the inside and then I'll go back to the outside, the middle and then the inside and once I get here I only have a middle and then two insides to do and that's your basic

sunflower

ease so I'm I'm going to finish this and then I'll show you what we're going to do for the middle.
Well, I have my petals on my crown. Now listen, when you do this kind of reading, your petals won't look done. to hang on the door we're going to need to adjust them and make them look more cohesive, so what I'm going to do for the middle is this method that I do. I call it my Sitting Center and I have a whole

tutorial

just on the center and I'll link it in the description box below and I always get asked what is she what do you put in the middle of the rings on your wreath and this is just plastic canvas , it's very flexible, it's five mesh and that's what it does.
It's very flexible because these squares are a lot bigger than maybe something like a seven mesh, but this is what I do: I just took my wreath frame and I simply made an outline of the inside of the frame and cut it out. I didn't do the outside of the inside wire because you don't really need that big of a circle, so that's what we're going to do, so we're just going to take our plastic tarp and I got a bundle of this. faux jute tube and you get 30 yards I think and a package like Reef Shop Comm or Craft Outlet quiet, but what I'm going to do is take my hand like this and I'm just going to wrap it up let's see what it is. three four five six seven about seven times okay and then I'm going to take it and in the middle here you see that and I'm going to take a zip I'm going to pick up my plastic tarp and I'm going to take the zip tie underneath and I'm going to start in the middle or close to the middle and all I'm going to do is just repeat this step over and over again, so I didn't get halfway there, so now I have my first step, so I'm going to take my tube and it twists a little bit and I'm going to do it again one two three four five six seven okay and I'm going to grab it in the middle and this time I'm going to Go after it I'm going to go after one of these loops because I want them to go in all different directions so everything What you're going to do is keep repeating this process and what I like to do is start in the middle. and I work around the middle and then to the sides and then I finish it or sometimes they may have to trim a little bit of this off, but all you want is a nice rounded center so you can see how I go there, so I I'll do one more time and then I'll come back and show you what a band looks like, so one two, yeah, look at how it twists a little bit, you'll have to work with it two, three, four, five, six, seven. and then take it, so now I'm going to take it and I'm going to put it around the back of this so that it naturally pushes all the loops up and I'm going to keep doing this until I fill all of this plastic. canvas, I'll probably use about 20 yards of the 30 and not the whole bundle.
I mean, you can make a larger centerpiece if you want, but you really shouldn't need it for a ten inch wreath frame. I'll keep doing that and I'll be right back, as you can see. I've filled this out pretty good and when I look at it I feel like there should be one more right there, so I'm just going to add one. more and as you can see, this is the end, the package comes with three of these, so this is the end of the.2, so I'm going to wrap my hand around a few times like I showed you before and just take it. and I'm going to do it, oh I need a zip tie, where do they go?
I'm just going to take it and this will be the last one I add and then we'll attach it to our crown and that's how I get the look. from the center sitting, okay, and then you're going to cut all your little zipper Tagalongs here. I like sunflower. I feel like the sunflower wreath is like a wreath that would be good for all year round, so you can see one. One of my ends is sticking out there, so I'm going to take my scissors and trim it and trim it so that, as you can see on the back, it's not totally centered around it, but you just want a nice rounded center, so what?
What I'm going to do now is take two 8 inch ties and I'm going to slide one on this side and one on the opposite side. Okay, it's out of the way. I'm going to take our center and run. this down here and I'm going to move my petals gently. I don't want to tear anything or leave a thread in the polyester burlap, so I have my hand there and I'm just going to turn it over and I still have my hand holding it because I really don't want to leave my wreath flat on the surface of my table here, like this that I just attached it to the opposite ends of the wreath frame and if you need to let it down just hold it a little bit like I'm doing now, you don't want to push this down, that's my point, so I'm going to pull this up a little bit , we'll turn it around and I think it looks nice.
In the end, this is still not the way I really wanted, like I can't see everything, so what you're going to do is adjust your petals a little bit, so first of all, someone says that. First of all, I'm going to put two petals together at the same time and I'm going to go around and you can do this if you ask someone for a crown and it's a flower like this, you can go. Don't be afraid to separate the petals a little bit so that you can highlight their beauty and fullness and that's all you're going to do, so at this point I'm going to keep doing this a little more and my flower will be ready for my client.
I'll cover the back and all I do is take a piece of felt that I've traced, this one will be brown and I'll zip tie it to the back of my wreath and I'll link another video of how I actually do it. just down in the description box below, but I just wanted to show you how I did this because that's the big question I got. What they do is why there is a difference between pipe cleaners and zip ties and this is kind of a difference, this is a different petal, it fits differently, it has a lot of volume and that's the difference, so when I tend to use the zip ties, it's a bit of a crown. flatter, it could just be a different petal, just a different way to place it in the wreath shape, but if you enjoyed this video, please like it and let me know below any ideas you would like to see done on this channel.
