DIY Flower Wreath | How to Make a Flower Wreath | Flower Wreath Tutorial

May 03, 2024
Welcome back to Julie's Wreath Boutique, today we are going to

make

this fabulous

flower

crown and I am so excited because I am going to show you how to take this Navy Polly Burlap Mask. Yes, I said navy, it's a new color and Polly burlap. match I got it from the fashion tree, my link for 23 is below so be sure to check it out. I used white Polly burlap with it. I use a 10 inch easy wire frame. I get used to consumer crafts. Don't worry I'll leave that link there at literally $8 57 for a frame you can't go wrong with that and then I just use these foam circles from Dollar Tree and I can finally use this awesome rope that I've had for quite a while at Hobby Lobby to

make

this fabulous Center so I hope you are excited like I am to show you a new pedaling technique, not new but a new way to use it and how we can make a beautiful

wreath

and it will be ready for summer let's get off to a good start so the first step. and we've done this in a lot of the videos, we're going to cut out our Polly burlap and I'm going to use this navy blue and we're also going to use white, but I just want to show you real quick how I do it.

I'm going to cut it as you can see. I have my cutting mat underneath and my glass cutting board and these things can be found in my Amazon store and also the wood stove that I'm going to use. I want to let you know because I receive messages. I only have one on and off switch for this wood stove. There's no temperature gauge, so there's no temperature, so if you're using one that has a temperature, I really don't know how. That's getting hot, so I just want to show you a cute little tip I learned from someone in my crafting group,

wreath

makers, and even more so, if you're not in that group, check out the description box below and join the him on Facebook.

More Interesting Facts About,

diy flower wreath how to make a flower wreath flower wreath tutorial...

I just grabbed a basket from Dollar Tree and just a peg from Walmart. I think they cost like 97 cents or a lot more than this and I just run it through one of those holes to the other side of the hole and so when I want to get my match out, it's a good holder for you, so of course it won't work for a 21 inch mesh, but honestly, I don't use 21 inches very often. I use this polyester burlap, so let's cut it out. cut all our burlap, this polyethylene burlap mesh probably burlap whatever you want to call it, as long as Long has to say it right, as long as it says polyester burlap, it can say mesh, it can say decorative polyethylene burlap mesh, but that's what we do.

We are working well, so what are we going to do? We're going to cut it 10 inches long, so I always have little marks on my pad here, my cutting mat, and now I'm going to go between the two squares, it's very important. wear a mask. I'm not wearing a mask right now because then I would be a little muffled when I talk to you, but when you're wearing this, it gives off a smell and I want you to wear a mask, maybe yes. this in a well ventilated area. I have a room purifier. You would have a little fan blowing the air away, but that's what you're going to do, so we need a 10 x 10 inch square, so I'm going to cut a little bit more. this and then I'll come back and we'll put this together, okay, so let's talk about the type of framework that we're going to use today.
diy flower wreath how to make a flower wreath flower wreath tutorial
We're going to use a 10 inch frame, but you can use a 12 inch frame or an 8 inch frame. It's really up to you how big of a diameter wreath you want now when making it. I get this question: do I change the size of my petals at all? The petals say the same. The number of petals you use will change, so if you're using a 12 inch one, it's obviously larger than the 10 inch one, so you'll need more petals. If you're wearing an 8 inch one, it's obviously smaller so you'd use less petals, so that's the only difference when you wear a size up or a size up. smaller size so I wanted to mention that because I get asked that quite often.
As you can see, I put up this plastic tarp. I simply cut a circle in the shape of the inner ring and then simply took a zipper. I tie it and attach it and this is what the plastic tarp looks like. It is a large blade and is very flexible. This is the mesh of five. This is what I prefer. I have it in my Amazon store, but you can also find it at your local craft store. Also, what are we going to do first? We're going to put 15 petals on the outside of our frame and we're going to use zip ties to attach them and we're just going to use the standard technique that I've been working with for quite a while, so I'm going to start at the stand, we've got wire one, two , three and four, we'll start with wire two at the beginning.
I'll just take my eight inch zipper. tie again I also buy them on Amazon, I feel like that's the best place I'm going to go between the cross brackets and under under, okay, so make sure you have this in the right place here for you, okay? We're going to take a ten inch poly burlap and we're going to use the navy blue because it's a new color and I'm really excited about the center. I've been wanting to use this rope for quite a while, so one of the tips I'm going to give you is I want to make sure that my finished edges up here and my finished edge are down here in front of me, because when we get to the middle here and then we're just going to put them together and I'm going to turn it over and I'm going to gently place this petal on top of the bottom petal.
So when I do that, the finished edges will be more exposed than the cut edges, so I'm doing this on purpose. so I'm just going to take my zip tie and I'm going to put it in the place that I told you about, so we're going to put one on each bracket and then two between the brackets, so you can You're just going to pull that and cut the edge. and then you're going to move on, so I'm going to go to the next place. I'm going to put my zipper on, I'm just going to put it on, grab my mesh and again the finished edges down here and up at the top I'm going to put them together in the middle I'm going to put them together I'm going to turn them over and then I'm just going to put one over the other one so that finished edge is exposed, so when I place it here let me show you what I'm going to do.
I'm going to make sure that this one is on top and that way, as you can see, just the finished edges are more exposed than the cut edges, so it's just another step to make sure that you have a beautiful reading, so I'm going to make sure that all these petals go around and I'm going to go around the whole frame until I've put 15 petals on, so when I come back I'll have all 15 petals done right, so let's go to the next step of our wreath and we're going to bring in the white burlap and the navy blue burlap together in this crown.
You can use any color. This is just what I want to use because I'm using a special rope for the middle and this is going to be kind of a nautical crown for me, so this is the pedal we're going to make, it's the Daisy. pedal by Dean Michael designs and I believe in her link in the description box below so be sure to check out her channel but what we're going to do is show you how we're going to make a smaller petal. top of the white to give it a little more contrast, now you can have it, we're doing it this way, where the cup comes down, you can flip it over and do it the other way around, you could even just flip this over.
Stand up and do that if you want that look too, it's really up to you, but as you can see, just flip it over and you'll get the petal. Then, what are we going to do? We're going to take a piece of white and a piece of navy blue and I'm just going to overlap them and again they're not going to be exactly the same size, we're not going for perfection here okay, so I'm going to angle it on my cutting mat and I'm going to take my rotary cutter. I am not going to use my wood stove for this process.
There is really no need to use your wood stove and this will be much quicker. I'm going to cut them down the center as straight as I can. I'm going to set this aside and then what I'm going to do is I'm going to take out the blue and I want to cut another inch off of this, okay, this is where the cutting mat comes in. really useful, so we're not going to use that part, okay, and if I pull it out and then line it up, then when I use that inch, when I trim that inch, then I know that I'm going to be pretty consistent, so now that I I have lined up, I'm just going to do the Dean Michael Daisy pedal technique and you're just going to put that long side together, which I'm going to do and you're not.
I don't have to do this. I'm making a full wreath and I want to show you how I'm doing it. I'm going to go ahead and take a little zip tie and form my petal and I'm going to tell you a little trick, okay, and I learned it from you. Many of my clients have told me what they have done and I have tried it myself and it works at this point if you want to take some Mod Podge and a small brush you can gently modify the ends of your petals and that will help eliminate that frame , so the small craftsmen let you know if you did it and tried it.
I won't do it today due to time, but I'm going to go ahead and make at least 15 of these petals. We might need a few more, but I'm going to make 15 of these petals and then we'll put them together, so hold on, okay? I already have my petals made and they're ready to go so I think 15 will be enough, but we'll see that we're going to start on wire 3, so remember that's wider, one, two, three and four, so I'm going to make three and basically we're going to go between each of these sections of where the previous petal is.
I really think this blue maybe really pretty, so I'm going to go here in this first place. grab my pedal and I'll show you, let me move this up here so you can be clear that that's where I'm going to place this flange, so one, two, and on bar three, okay, so let's take our pedal that's pre-made. . And again, you don't need to pre-make these pedals and do what I did for demonstration purposes. It's just easier for me to do it that way if you can hear my herd of elephants upstairs, those are my kids and they're adding a backdrop. the sound today, but they're kids, oh my gosh, one of them just fell over and I don't even know if you guys can hear that or not, but I hope you guys get a little bit of comic relief when I talk about my little pack.
Okay, so we're going to join them together, so you're going to go between each and every place, so wherever there is a place we're going to add a pedal. Now let me tell you that I have an intention. to make sure the finished side of my pedal was on the right side to continue with this theme that I did with the first layer of petals, but I just wanted to try something that we did the Daisy pedal on but added something like that. another look just to give it another dimension, so I'll keep stopping by. I'm going to move these around to make sure I can have some room and I just slide my bridle in there and I'm just going to go all the way around and then we'll come back and talk about what we're going to do for the center, so I've got my bridle here and I'll be back with a second final row, okay?
We're on the last row of petals here and I decided to continue with the same method, so I made eight more petals. We may need a few more, we'll see as we go through here, you won't know. until you try it, so that's what I'm doing here, so I'm just going to take my zip ties and pretty much go to wherever the ends of the previous petals are, that's where I'm going to attach them. New petals because we're going to have a pretty good sized sensor so it's going to be covered so we're going to put one here, we're going to start and then I'm going to keep going around this whole circle until I have put the rest of the petals on and again we've kept the finished edge to the right of the petal, so I'm going to keep doing this and then come back.
I think I'll have about a square. between so there's a square between the two flanges here and this over the span of the flanges is about four squares, okay, as you can see, I have the center section of petals. I'm super happy with the way it turned out and so now I'm going to add some leaves. I think you could forego the leaves on this wreath altogether. It's really something preferential for you. I personally like leaves on my

flower

s, so I'll add them, but let me get into it. let me know in the comments below if you would leave leaves or not, don't you just love the look of that navy blue?
It's very pretty and I like it because it's something different in the Pali world about burlap. Now I wish the burlap would probably come. With a gray color that would be really nice, so what we're going to do is we're just going to take a zip tie and we're going to go under the bar and the bar. Do you see the support is right here? so I want to keep them consistent, so I'm going to put all my leaves just to the left of that support, we're going to take our leaf and just like we did with our petal here, we're going to do that and I'm going to go up to the middle I'm going to bring it together and instead to make the overlay I'm just going to place it right here and that way the leaves come out a little bit more I'm just going to cover that up and you're just going to slightly see a little bit of green, you don't need huge leaves on this so I'm going to go and make all the leaves and then we'll work on the sensor, okay, so the first part.
I have shared this with you before in other videos where I takethese foam circles from Dollar Tree. They're like four point eight inches so if you had like five inches that would totally work, there's two here and they're about a half inch or a quarter three quarters of an inch wide so I grab one of them . and I'll show you that I soften the edges, so here's the side that I haven't done, it's 3/4 inch and I get rid of this hard edge, so what I do and what I'm not going to do. here on the camera because it can be very noisy, but you're going to go around the edges very carefully with a knife.
Be very careful in this part, okay, maybe we have some protective gloves if you want, but you're just going to get through. and I just take a little bit off the edge, so what I do, because you can see a little bit of black hair, I take a sanding block and I literally sand it until I get this smooth edge that I want, so I'm going to finish this again and then I'll come back and we'll start in the middle, let's put this together. I haven't done it the way I wanted, it's not perfect, all sides are not equal here. so okay, I've got some pins, I've got some felts and I'm going to get my glue gun out here and bring it in and the glue I'm going to use is actually, let me show you guys, I know this is bad.
Picture, it's Gorilla glue sticks and it's just a little, it sticks better to things a little better than normal and it's for all temperature glue sticks or glue guns, so I like it, that's what I prefer use right now and use both. but if I'm going to do a middle, I usually use the grill, flew six, so I'm going to take my rope and in the middle I'm going to add a little bit of glue in the center here and I'm going to Take a little pen here and this still has the ribbon on the end, but we're going to cover it, so let me find a pen and I like to secure it if I have it, if the rope is big enough to I can cover it pretty easily.
I'm going to add a pen. Wow, try not to burn my fingers because I don't have the tips of my pinkies. Okay, all the way down. Scissors. Okay, just to help get you started. of that glue out of here, so all we're going to do and you've seen me do this in other videos, we're just going to do a circular motion until we're done with this, we're just going to keep adding a little bit. a little bit of glue, add the string around it, so here I want to go over that one because it has tape on it and I want to cover that pen, so this is going to take a little bit of time because it's I'm just going to sit here and you're going to hold it tight, so everything What am I going to do, I'm going to hold this together.
I'm going to add a little bit of glue, press it. Turn around and this is a rope that you can find at Hobby Lobby. It's actually in the ribbon section where they have the ribbon and mesh. It has a little more glue. Jeremy. I had this turned around and it says it's $7.99. This paper yields eight. and prices may have changed. I always buy it when it's half price and every two weeks you'll find it for half price, so even though it's not technically a tape, it's still in that tape section, so you see, I'm going to keep hanging around and I'm going to hold this rope very, very strong and it will take me some time, so I'll go ahead and come back when I'm at the end to show you how I finish it.
Well, we have it all over here, as you can see. I'm down to the glue, so I'm going to cut a piece off here. I'm going to use this multi-tool cutter. I have these in my Store on Amazon and I like them, there are actually two different pairs but they both have the same mechanism and I think my blade is getting dull, it cuts very large pieces very well, it is very very sharp, it is like a blade right there and then I have extra blades and the handle, so I'm going to put this here, I'm going to put a little bit of glue underneath, a little bit of glue there and then I'm going to take a pen and I'm going to go at an angle just to make sure that it's going to hold up fine and then I'm going to take a piece of felt and I'm going to go over it like this and then I'm going to take one of these wires and if so this is a 20 gauge so this is pretty sturdy so I'm going to add it right here and then I'm going to take my floral pins, they are the ones that look like they have two sides so I'm just going to add them at an angle also because the foam isn't that thick so we're just going to add a little bit and then I'm going to take another piece of felt and put a little bit more glue on it and I'll put it on top.
I'm going to put a little glue on the ends and then we'll grab some more pens. Any type of pen you have. I only have these. I have some extra ones and I'm going to run them through the glue on the top. and it'll just help hold it all up and I think that's putting one of these right there, you can move them around okay, okay, so we've got the middle done and I'm just saying I feel like this rope was made for this polyester. burlap so I'm really excited because you're just going to take your center and go through that plastic canvas mesh that we put in the middle of our wreath frame and we're just going to twist it really nice here pull stick it all the way down and just make sure place it where you want, turn it over and I'm going to turn a wire cutter and cut it now.
Listen to see if you've made it to the end. I really appreciate it if you have done so. I didn't join my wreath group, which is basically a group making any type of craft. Join. It's on Facebook and the link is below. I have other

tutorial

s that I do. I have some that I sell and I have private groups for them. I love having you in one of those groups so you can learn. I have angel wings if you're interested and learning that, but you have to buy the Christmas tree

tutorial

to join the Facebook group, so here's a piece of tinsel or not. but I felt like I cut it out and all I'm going to do is just fold it over and then make my little cuts and use this with glue and I'm going to go through and just make holes in there and then you're just going to attach it to the wreath frame like this and then you'll cut the zip tie and just turn it around, but you turn it around and then you'll hang it from the wire frame itself, so let's take a look at our pretty wreath, this one should be able to go between a storm door and a regular door, like this that Polly burlap is also very nice for outdoor weather, so if you made it this far, let me, let's see what kind of emoji we make.
I want, let's make a winking smiley face emoji. I know I asked you to share emojis, but I like talking to you and it's just a way to know that you watched my video and support me. and I appreciate you being here I hope you like this video I think this flower is very pretty I think it would be pretty with so many different colors if you are interested in purchasing the navy Polly burlap. I bought this at a fashion tree and believe my link for the fashion tree below. I also like to buy some polyester burlap at the reef store and I'll leave that link too.
Let's talk about how many petals there are in this wreath, as for the petals, the number of petals you have. I'm going to need to cut, I think almost a roll of navy blue if you're using navy blue, so whatever color you want, this original beginning of your flower is going to be your predominant color, so you're going to need a roll. I only plan to cut about 28 pieces of that down to the white. I think I used 14 10 inch pieces of white and then of course we cut them in half so you'll need about a roll and a half of whatever color you're going to use.
To use, if you want to add the green leaves, it's really up to you, you'll need a roll of this twine and I hope you like this. I really think it's pretty, it really seems summery to me and something like that. It seems a little beachy to me too, so if you've made it this far remember to leave me that emoji in the comments, make sure to subscribe, turn on that bell notification so you can see all my videos and I'll see you next time. at Julie's Crown Boutique
