Nick Suzuki GOAL OF THE YEAR Candidate - Canadiens almost play SPOILER | Habs vs Islanders Reaction

Apr 13, 2023
In the penultimate game of the season and in a game in which the Islanders finally officially clinched the

play

off spot, the Montreal Canadiens came up short, but with REM's pitlick

goal

and Suzuki's

goal

of the

year

, we still have plenty. what to talk about.

habs

digest edit hi bonjour Ahoy and welcome to today's game

reaction

edit of

habs

digest I'm your host Josh Goss along with my co-host Jesse pogi and a reminder as always please subscribe if you haven't already guys one game left the season we're in the home stretch here thank you so much for tuning in to all these episodes we really appreciate it um penultimate game of the season by Jesse honestly what's a little crazy is I didn't think I'd be saying this but at this time of

year

, Montreal

play

ed a game in what felt like a playoff atmosphere, you could feel the energy from the Islanders fans tonight as they were about to clinch a playoff spot and I think Montreal fed off of that for a bit and i think it could bode well for the future yeah there was a great atmosphere tonight you know it was one of these games where it's like you know my head says yes you know we should lose you know we should do everything we can to at least secure top five draft pick opportunities um but you know my heart tells me no I don't want to lose this game I want us to compete and I just want us to play

against the Islanders here tonight but hey that's it you know we were right there in this game pretty much all the way through great atmosphere you could say uh a lot of The Islander stalls are on the edge of their seat the whole game so this really led to a really nice environment for this one this is falling a bit short but you have to feel even with recent players we sent the Rockets with their playoff effort um Raphael with parnard Jeff yulin and Corey huenaman le like that even players like this made a difference in this game tonight but sadly it's a year in development and we're trying to do our best to have fun right now yeah that's very true and guys if you weren't paying attention the laval rocket in his first game against the toronto marlies they beat the marleys 6 to 3 and uh when they were 5 to 3 oolinen scored a goal and harvey bernard gave four assists I don't know if any of them scored a point in the final goal , but regardless of Panar having at least four assists in that game, it's going to be awesome to see the Rocket progress in the next two weeks and I guess they could be our main focus in a couple of days because there won't be any more news from the Habs, but Jesse, you're right, the Habs stepped up and I feel like those guys could have made the difference, but at the same time, Frederick was looking pretty good in his second game of the season and Teasdale and his debut this year, he

almost

scored. , he hit the puck in the air and hit the post, so these guys were filling the roles perfectly well and Jesse, something we've seen all year, the Habs have tended to not always, sometimes, absolutely smoke themselves, but sometimes they like to play their opponent's level in a game where, as you mentioned before the show, all the pressure was on the Islanders, one win and you're in for a loss and Florida gets or doesn't get Florida Pittsburgh gets a chance from jumping you, the pressure was on them, but with the atmosphere, the Habs played at the level of this playoff team and really kept it close until the end. some young guys are coming up who are still playing for their NHL careers you know the list of those players including Jonathan Drew at this point you know who you have to feel is auditioning for an NHL spot but also Jose Teasdale that he came tonight and I really liked his game tonight Josh, especially that first, you know, let's face it, Habs really had an amazing game tonight, but in that first period we definitely had some good opportunities and I really liked his opportunity where he's nice to take a hit or he's initiating contact, but taking that hit by going to the front of the net, taking a shot and just hitting the post with it, so it's an amazing opportunity.

You

want it so badly that he could have become that opportunity with an amazing feeling and a story that would have been for him, but a lot of effort anyway, so I feel like a lot of this energy is what's really been reinvigorating our team at the end of this season energy is a great thing and a lot of it even in this game, as you just said, comes from that fourth line of Teasdale and Michael pizzetta tyranny, which is always at the center of this kind of momentum. equipment power. I mean, I think that early goal. from REM pit like setting the tone tied up the game its like the crowd goes silent and i think the players are like holy shit we haven't had this feeling since the beginning of the year where you're just silencing the opposing crowd who feel like there's a lot on the line and when a team gets that level of that extra boost they get that extra team right with the roster the Habs don't really have to compete with a playoff team but it was awesome to see that awesome one time pitlick from Jake Evans um overall though Jesse I think the Islanders were into all the good things about this game not a lot of positives but let's take a moment to talk about the big thing on the thumbnail Nick's goal of the year Suzuki guys no I don't have a video clip but basically just to describe it a bit.

was like what can't I say the word I said one of the goals of the year, definitely not the best of all. I think this year Jesse just tell me your thoughts when you saw it because it was crazy well we knew Nick Suzuki was a good golfer coming from the festivities at the All-Star game where he won the huh where he won the um I don't even know how can you do it I try to forget that event Jesse okay you know but I was showing that skill and tonight that was on um that was on display again definitely you know it was just a beautiful chip I shot you know about Eliot Sorokin just score that goat and it stood out to me though Josh it's just that effort where you think it's kind of a dead game yeah um you know but somehow he manages to get to that first and then once he gets to the park, just that amount of uh touch, you know, finesse and skill that he really chose to put that in as we've seen many times uh so far this year on breakaways that are very reminiscent of his chip shots datsukian who likes to take on the bra on those getaways you know a lot about that same touch and similar skill you know about the same skill set that's on display tonight with that goal so I mean just beautiful to watch and very nice to watch finishing the season strong, um having played in every road game this year and just to score a beauty like this just to keep increasing his career level totals in terms of points. be real happy definitely a bright spot tonight points and goals now only one behind my boy Cole Caufield this is the cold coffee on that if y'all didn't know I'll show it I haven't really turned up before I bought it at the adult center it's pretty sweet but yeah he's only one goal behind cole caufield for the habs lead now

suzuki

at 25 caulfield at 26 it's crazy coffee is still in the lead at this point but i guess it's not that surprising um but yes Suzuki with an amazing game.

I don't even know if we mentioned the goal was short like it was an afterthought almost after that amazing play so now Suzuki again just phenomenal we thought he might have lost his Mojo for a bit there but it's great to watch him play so good uh these final games of the season um couple other things i wanted to comment on Jesse just some weird plays that happened in the game Gallagher had a little neon knee with one of the Islanders players there the second they covered him when he got close to him and you get the completely involuntary right neon knee gallagher felt bad no ill will after that you have to go after him if you're the Islanders players but then in the game, Jesse went three or two halves, ABS had some momentum, and Mike Hoffman gets a mic as perhaps Mike Hoffman's biggest penalty that he's just unnecessarily on as a cross-check.

I'm going to play her on the back until the player just goes down on the ice penalty to score on the power play about those two things I mean I mean they're negative things but to me it's like these guys are still playing with a little bit of spirit and that's something I guess yeah Gallagher is definitely bringing out a little wild on that but we know he's not uh you know he's not a dirty player no or anything but at the same time, Josh, you know when you're nice. from looking at the lineup you know before the game and all I'm really thinking to myself like I'm happy we have Brandon Gallagher on this team one of the few veterans on this team he's a legacy back home you could show off exactly how you might look at armia and stuff like that but i feel like you know there's a much better chance of Gallagher being on this team next year for Army a lot of these um you know veterans we have even though it's not a lot on this team young man is going to leave and a lot of people say you know Brendan Gallagher is overpaid but what I would say is the same you know I would echo the same sentiment as a lot of fanatic halves who have been watching this team for a long time Time is that you were underpaid for many years as a Canadian from Montreal and what you are getting paid now is really a bunch of back pay, right?
I think it evens out when you pay less for a player for sure. years for the production of him for this team that we certainly were. I think it's only fair that that balances out at a certain point. I think we need to keep that in mind when we assess Brandon Gallagher's place on this team. his importance um i think going forward it's important to keep some vets and he's one of the few i would keep yeah if you can make the money work i would say do your best to do that and i do too understand that as you're building for a contender down the road, that kind of $6.5 million contract for the production you're giving can hinder a team, there's no question about that, but know that if you're part Montreal staff, you are Montreal management.
You probably try to do as much as you can. Gallagher is clearly loved in the organization and I hope he sticks around for a while because he's a favorite with so many people. over the next few days to see what's going on i have to play the bruins tomorrow night in the last game of the season and i don't think this season will be like montreal beat boston tomorrow i think that would be the perfect ending to this season, right? theoretically because theoretically Montreal, I think Boston, the team that just won the president's trophy, broke Montreal's record for most points in a season by one team, it would be just as Montreal beat them in tank season, no One thing I wanted to say though, guys, if Arizona loses basically if Montreal loses to Boston tomorrow, you're guaranteed a top-five pick in the draft lottery.
If Montreal wins, they need Arizona to beat Vancouver tomorrow night, so there are a lot of draft implications tomorrow night. Jesse says it right. now do you think Montreal stays in the top five in the lottery or do you think they'll beat Boston and Arizona will somehow slip under us? I think we'll stay in the top five because Boston will be surprised, I think. like a surprisingly well-rounded team tomorrow night, so I think you know that with that being said, we're inevitably going to lose that game, you know we're also, you know, we've sent some players out as well, that's us. we're not trying to, we're not doing our best you know these last two games here as well so I think putting those factors together um aw but in the end it will turn out to be a win yeah I got the same thing. thing I think the average is going to be smoked by the Bruins I'm thinking like four one five one if the Bruins put out a full roster um desperately clinging to that top five position the draft lottery is less than a month away we could' No be more excited uh looking forward to next year but yeah some exciting things will happen in the next day or two including Laval but that will suffice for this reaction edition of Absa game only if more news . update you in the next few days too but if you enjoyed please letleave a like comment subscribe to the channel help us reach 5000 subs we are so close we can try it we want to get there in the off season and you guys can help us with that i'm Josh Goss from Ico Jesse Park here we'll catch you next
