Living with an AMG G63 - what I loved... and hated!

Jun 01, 2021
Hello everyone, Matt Watson here, so I'm in my mercedes amg g63. Now most people have these things just cruising around town to post them, but I like to take this off-road because it's a capable off-roader and has three locking differentials. one front in the middle and one in the rear to give you plenty of traction to overcome obstacles. You also have a low range mode that gives you more pulling power when you need to haul rough terrain that you love. serious hard end so dad for that guy just ruined the effect it's supposed to reveal to me anyway yeah it's not a full size one this is a tamiya replica of the g-wagon this one is going back to mercedes and unfortunately I can't afford this.

loved

about the g63, so first up is the color combination that I adore. this red is called hyacinth red it's actually an inspired choice. I was originally going to buy a blue one.

I wasn't sure but I took a chance on this and when you see everyone else driving these g wagons whether it's silver white or black those are colors everyone else buys so this just stands out you see with the cream interior , it's like the car is strawberries and cream, berries and cream, berries and creams. I'm a little boy who knows berries and cream. Yes, you have to clean them. a little more because your pants, especially jeans, leave a little bit of stain, but you get some spray and a cloth and you can take it off or obviously if you have a g63 you can pay a guy with a cloth to take it off remove.

The headliner really works and goes great with the black steering wheel, silver accents, brown leather on the dash, and of course the exposed wood. I like exposed wood. The only annoying thing is that there is a small chip there, it's small, but. Normally, it's so big in my OCD eyes when I drive this G. I'm just cruising around, taking it easy, going slow, only when I need to pass someone do I remember the firepower available, so it's got a twin turbo four liters. v8 585 horsepower 850 newton meters of torque especially its timing gear here's what I'm going to do is see how fast it can go from zero to 60. so I'm going to launch it there's no launch control just hold it down . on the brake, increase boost, release braking, just rockets bloom, that's 60 right there, that's enough, let's see what we did.

I have a feeling it will be a quick 4.3 second 0-60 time. This is faster if not. 60 than a Ferrari 360. It's totally crazy and I love it because one of my favorite things about this car is actually the design. I love the way it looks, the way it mimics the previous one so closely, but actually looks more modern. I think it looks better when you have them side by side, this has even more presence, it's just wider but you still have all the old elements like the indicators on top of the wings, fabulous, love it from this angle, from the side, is also great. it just looks like a tonka toy the exposed hinges are all modeled but that's supposed to be the noise it makes when you close it no modern car sounds like that nor any modern car door is as difficult to close as this one in fact on such an expensive car like this one from other manufacturers, you would have soft closed doors, these are hard closed doors, so solid, don't bother, don't worry, don't comment that Matt treats cars badly all the time. a g truck, you can also have it on the back, the classic g, with the spare tire on the back, the side hinged tailgate and the way it's completely flat, simple but cool, have a trailer hitch installed in the car has been really very useful.
I don't have a camper or trailer, but I have been using it for several tug of war videos. In fact, if you want to see one, you can click on the pop-up banner and go see one against a Range Rover Sport Svr. It's good. Another thing that's really impressive about this car is the absolutely incredible brakes, so it weighs two and a half tonnes and it should take an ace to stop, but it doesn't and I'll prove it once again with my specialist timing equipment here. I'm going to do an emergency stop at 70 miles an hour and see how long it takes this thing to stop.
It won't be as long as you think. We're going 70 miles per hour. Complete emergency stop. Wow, stop at 70 in just 53 meters. Really impressive, especially when you consider that the highway code says that you need to leave a distance of 96 meters to be able to stop at 70 miles per hour, so to be fair, the highway code could do with updating the surround view camera system of this car. really very useful, the top down view lets you know exactly what's around you, brilliant when you have to go around those pesky width restrictions, then there are multiple views you can get around the car, this one in particular is very, very useful for your alloy wheel, so don't brake them anyway when you are reversing, these guidelines are actually very precise and allow you to get the car closer to the curb without damaging the wheels.
I like how you have 64 different ambient lighting options and you can actually choose to have multiple colors so there are different colors in different zones, the only problem is that I have it set up exactly how I want it so someone he'll borrow the car and then trade it in because no one else seems to like the green interior. with the red exterior, they think it's too Christmassy. I'm taking this car off the road quite frequently for various videos and I really found these special g63 rubber mats useful because they cover the normal ones you have.
They are lovely, so they are all spotless, still, the location of the seat controls is just perfect here on the door, they are very easy to get to, especially when you are driving. I don't know why other manufacturers take them off the seat. you're searching trying to find them, it makes a lot of sense to have them here. I get into other cars and I'm a little lost, that's really how it should be. I love the side exit exhaust. They look really cool and they sound really good too, listen to this, although it has a soft limiter, it doesn't really matter because it's very loud anyway.
The other thing is that the location of the gear selector up here on the steering column is the most sensitive place for it's so here you are in the car that I want to drive so let's go oh no, I'm done now I want to park okay, I'm going to park actually I need to go into reverse now no problem here we go I can go into reverse now I want to go forward again it's simple instead of looking for a lever down here because that's where they have it in a manual car it doesn't need to be where the selector is manual gears if it is automatic driving this thing every day it is clear that it is a luxury vehicle It is absolutely beautiful, but it is also a true off-roader, so it has a low range mode for the gearbox and it has three lockable differentials , one for the front, one for the middle and one for the back.
I actually took this suv and compared it to a jeep wrangler, a tough suv and in fact it was just as capable. If you want to watch that video click on the pop up banner to watch it, one of the best things about having a proper off roader like this is that you can get away with it looking dirty i.e. covered in mud, in fact it suits it , it's like you're using it for its intended purpose. I didn't have to clean it because It takes a long time to wash it because there are so many ages for the men you pay to do it, obviously there is a common theme with these people who can afford it, they don't clean their cars themselves, some of my friends when they have Al Getting into the car, the first thing they noticed was the IWC clock and they always said, "wow, it has an IWC clock that's really cool, I'll tell you the truth, I never use it, it's way down, I use the digital one on the dashboard." It's a lot easier, but it's nice to be able to impress people with it, sometimes they're more interested in it than the rest of the car and I'm like, guys, it's got a V8.
You hear this and you're like, oh, whatever. Look at the clock, one of my favorite things about driving this car is how high up you sit. You're definitely taller than something like a Range Rover and any Audi or BMW SUV. It really is a great view and the flat windshield too. it means almost no blind spots it's great you can see everything and you can see the top of the body looks really cool you can actually look down on other road users yes i feel suitably superior in my g63 conceit right there , the seats are very, very adjustable, you can alter how much the side bolsters hold you in, the lumbar support and indeed the position in which it affects you.
Look at it so it's very easy to get comfortable and if you like it you have dynamic seats to hug you when you turn the corner to keep you from falling over and then there are the seat base extenders now in some cars you have like a space where they spread out that gets filled with crumbs and things like that when you're eating things you shouldn't do in your car, not this one, although it's all built into the seat so you don't have that problem at all, it's much better. I think Mercedes makes some of the best digital dials really clear and easy to use, you can choose between different layouts so obviously I have it in sport, you can go for a classic style with two darts, that bothers me, then there is one which is called progressive and then you can alter what's there between navigation and things like that, but I like to say the performance stuff so that you have the boost from your turbochargers and your horsepower and your new meters of torque that the engine is developing at any time.
I can also set up that screen and you know what I'm going for? For more performance information, it also has a boost meter, so there's one for every eye. It matters that the Burmester sound system installed in this car is absolutely brilliant, it works very well with the huge interior space of this card, it is like a kind of concert hall. I'm going to miss that sound system when this car comes back. Don't miss it all. You can actually choose from different preset driving modes or you can customize it to allow you to alter the responsiveness of the engine and how quickly the gearbox works. changes gear and what type of gear it is in, the stiffness of the suspension, the sound of the exhaust and the intervention of the stability control, but then, if you put one of the differential locks, you can also choose between different off-road programs, such as trail of sand or rock the double glazed windows are bright they keep the noise out really make this as aerodynamic as a house but you don't hear much wind noise when driving at high speed on the highway you can just sit back and relax and be in its own cocoon of comfort, an electric steering column adds a premium feel, but most importantly this, the fact that the steering wheel itself is heated, I love that during the winter the nine-speed automatic gearbox in this The car is really good, so it's very smooth, you just change gears, you don't notice it happening, it's all very relaxing really, but even when you're in comfort mode and you need to overtake the floor, it responds quickly and then you go on and everything. it gets a little mental, very mental, oh, very mental, slow down again and relax, obviously if you put it in sport or sport plus mode, you're right in the thick of the power band, damn, let's slow it down speed in this corner and then, if you want.
You can press a button and go into manual mode and then change gears yourself seems a little more strange g63 but I can do it if I want. I also like the fact that you have shift lights so you don't miss any shifts. It looks great, this is crazy and this one even has the top speed restricted to 149 miles per hour. The car part is actually very big and look on the screen at the size of the opening, it is huge, so you can put huge boxes in it. What I really like about the trunk is the way the luxury even extends.
The diamond quilted hair-look leather on the tailgate is lovely. This car. The running boards on this G63 are actually very useful now on some off-road vehicles. They are there for show, but you need these to get in the car and it's super easy now. Some people have complained about the fact that they get their pants dirty when they go outside, but that's because they aren't using the running balls. Like they should just give up like that, it's simple, what happens to people, however, although I absolutely adore this car, it's not perfect, there have been a few things that are a little annoying and what bothers me the most is becauseOf course, fuel economy, so this vehicle averages just 15.9 miles per gallon, a full tank will cost £120.
The problem is that it gets over it pretty quickly when the car is dirty, sometimes it seems to confuse the parking sensors, especially the side ones, so you'll start steering and hear that sound, you think, oh I'm going to hit something and actually there's nothing there, maybe I should clean the car more frequently. I've noticed that this g63 gets quite a bit of hate from other road users probably has something to do with the fact that it's that type of vehicle and it's even worse because this one is bright red so it's so shameless about itself that It's like a big eco friendly postman van, one will let you out at junctions if there is a gap in the traffic, people try to overtake you if there is a narrow road, they will try to whisper the gap.
In front of you everyone seems to mock and if you dare to try to overtake someone in this they are very surprised, especially if there is a car in the distance on the other side of the road, now it can be completely safe to overtake and it's like I just can't understand how fast this car is, then it's able to overtake other vehicles and they'll be on their lights like: what are you doing? How dare you try to overtake on that thing? It's a very British thing to flash someone. to overtake because really if you feel unsafe because there is a car on the wrong side of the road overtaking another person and coming towards you you shouldn't turn on your lights you should apply the brakes instead of going no I'd rather die and tell you, let you know what I think of as my last action on this planet yes I'm British and we're stupid every time you take someone and they go out they never seem to manage to close the door properly because you're not used to having to close such heavy doors you always end up having to reach them and close them correctly yourself.
It gets on your nerves. I have a Samsung Galaxy, so I use Android Auto in this car all the time. The only annoying thing is that you can't use the full screen. Can you see that this part is blank? If I had an Apple phone, you get a full widescreen display. Why are Android users second class citizens, as you imagine? A big car like this isn't exactly the best in the corners, it's much better now than the old G63. I actually did a slalom test between this one and the old one, they were miles apart, it's a little loose and the traction control and stability Very soon, to save your neck, something like a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, what a monster , one of these things in the corners, but it works well considering how big, heavy and off-road it is, not bad, but otherwise you can't get carried away.
You're going to end up in trouble when I first bought this g. It had larger wheels that had a nicer design and are also black. I think there were 21 or maybe even 22, though, because I wanted to film something. On road I needed to downsize to these 20's because I couldn't get off road tires the size of the stock wheels, they don't look as good and what's even more annoying is that because they are smaller I actually can't. Put the wheel cover on the back of the car so it looks like this, a bit cheap really for such an expensive car.
I missed the old wheel cover. Well this is an absolutely huge vehicle, it has a lot of headroom. I found a Few people complain that there is not enough knee room in the back to be fair they were very lanky with legs that are too long but I see their point you know the leg room for me is fine but not It's huge considering how huge the car actually is. The heated seats in this car are super hot, which I love. The only problem is that the car automatically lowers the seat steadily over time. Why can't you just put it on the heat you want?
I mean, I don't care if it's so hot that it cleans my sperm, that's my choice. One of the big issues I have with this car is the price, so the g63 starts at £143,000 and this one with options is 153 grand, meaning I sadly can't afford to buy it. one that disappoints me a little, plus you can only save an average of just over two thousand dollars on one through carlo, however you can now save an average of seven thousand five hundred pounds on a range rover through car wire if you click on the popup button. On the banner there, you can download our free app that will allow you to compare car reviews.
Check the offers. It also includes a smart license plate scanner where you can use your phone's camera to read a car's license plate and it will tell you. you know how much that car is worth, although this new g-wagon is much more comfortable than the last one, it's still not as comfortable over bumps as something like a range rover, an audi qa, a bentley bentayga, a bmw x7, all those cars they have air suspension, this doesn't It doesn't, it just has normal coil springs, but it does have adaptive dampers, but even then, when you put it in comfort mode because the car uses a traditional ladder frame chassis, like the ones found on the Traditional off-road vehicles just don't work.
Well, with bumps like the stiffer unibody setups you get in more modern SUVs, as a result you can feel your wobbly bits moving when you go over bumps more than in some of the alternatives to these cars, but I'm fine with that. the jiggly jiggle tickles you if you park in an unfamiliar place and then turn on your satnav first thing get ready to leave and need to reverse your parking space you're not sure which direction you should go when it leaves your parking spot how annoying it is that when you go to reverse you lose navigation like that so you try to get out and you leave that's not it but no, I don't get out of that oh there we go and then you look in the wrong direction and you realize that you need to make a complete turn in the right direction contrary oh first world problems I don't know why this car has such a small sunroof I'm sure they could have made it bigger than that it's also a damn manual for this part and look at this when you brake hard this happens se it just closes it just closes the gutters on the car are pretty useless what happens is when it's been raining water can build up there and then you go to open the back door like this and then it all pours out like this can you see all the way inside your car all over your head, it doesn't matter, ignore that this g has automatic cruise control, so I will use radar to keep your safe distance from the car in front? however I never use it, the reason I never use it is because it doesn't have the steering assist to keep you locked in the middle of the lane like most high end cruise control systems do, the reason is because it doesn't It doesn't have electric power steering, it has hydraulic, it's actually better for offroading, but it means it doesn't have the functionality to be able to steer itself, it also means that the lane keeping assist prevents you from crossing the white line.
You can't use the steering to turn your back so what you have to do is use the brakes on the inside wheels and that produces a strange effect where you are pulled backwards while braking and actually steers the car breaking the internal wheels. wheels and feels a little strange and unsettling and less natural and smoother than more modern systems that use steering. The windshield on this jeep is quite vertical compared to other cars and that means it doesn't deflect stone chips as well. I actually already broke this windshield and then it had a big crack and I had to replace it.
It's a bit annoying that there is no control for the massage seats here, with the rest of the seat functions, you have to do it through the screen. which really gets on your nerves if you're running Android Auto at the same time because then you have to go home. I have Android Auto so you can't follow your map. Now move around the vehicle. Click on the vehicle. Choose seats and then choose. your driver's seat, then you move down to massage, you choose the massage you want. The wave is my favorite and then you have to go back to your phone and then you go back to Android Auto and you realize you missed the junction. because you've been playing with the seats and then the massage only lasts five to ten minutes so it's done very quickly, you're doing that whole palava thing again, however all of these disadvantages are really minor because if there was the money, I would have a g63, I love it, it has so much character and can do so many different things, it's fast, fun, luxurious and good off road.
I would also have it in this exact color combination, oh well don't have enough money for one, unfortunate though. Still I have my own little g. I don't have my toy? I just have to make do with that.
