hello and welcome to

living

life

i pray that the lord would reach you and touch your hearts so that you can be changed and become more and more like him you know growing up i didn't see or encountered many frogs in fact i didn't have a frog he's a pet as some people did and it wasn't until i lived as a missionary on the tropical islands that i encountered many different types of frogs in fact every time it rained there would be frogs all over the streets now growing up in the midwest whenever it rained we would see earthworms on the ground crawling here and there but for some reason in this island whenever it rained the frogs would be all over the streets and you couldn't avoid them if you're driving you couldn't stop because there's so many of them what you had to do was just continue driving and ignore them and pretend that they didn't exist and i remember when the first days when i arrived on that on that island it was very traumatizing because as you're driving you will hear this constant thudding you know this noise of something hitting your car and what it was is that you were driving over all these frogs and the next day when you when when things were dried you would see these frog pancakes from all over the streets true story and that's the image that i get and i think of when i hear about the second plague that we'll be looking at the plague of frogs

go to pharaoh and say to him this is what the lord says let my people go so that they may worship me if you refuse to let them go i will send a plague of frogs on your whole country the nile will team with frogs they will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed into the houses of your officials and on your people and into your ovens and kneading troughs the frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials then the lord said to moses tell aaron stretch out your hand with your staff over the streams and canals and pawns and make frogs come up on the land of egypt so aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of egypt and the frogs came up and covered the land but the magicians did the same things by their secret arts they also made frogs come up on the land of egypt pharaoh summoned moses and aaron and said pray to the lord to take the frogs away from me and my people and i will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the lord moses said to pharaoh i leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs except for those that remain in the nile tomorrow pharaoh said moses replied it will be as you say so that you may know there is no one like the lord our god the frogs will leave you and your houses your officials and your people they will remain only in the nile after moses and aaron left pharaoh moses cried out to the lord about the frogs he...

had brought on pharaoh and the lord did what moses asked the frogs died in the houses in the courtyards and in the fields they were piled into heaps and the land reeked of them but when pharaoh saw that there was relief he hardened his heart and would not listen to moses and aaron just as the lord had said as we're studying this chapter 8 in the book of

exodus

things are starting to get exciting and starts to pick up and you know we just read about the first plague of the nile river turning into blood and now god is continuing in his punishment against pharaoh because of his disobedience and his lack of acknowledging god as lord and because of that uh god releases the second plague which is of frogs and when they refuse to submit to god and we don't consider yahweh as lord over their lives they trusted in their idols more than they would trust in god and they believed that their their idols were more powerful than god and this was the result of it god is revealing himself to pharaoh in many different ways already and now these things have been replicated by magicians to this point and we see god's patience in dealing with pharaoh because he could have easily just sent out a severe judgmental punishment upon pharaoh and that could have been the end of the story and then the israelites would been released but i believe that god is giving them a chance he's giving them opportunities through each plague so that they can turn and change their minds and change...

their hearts and turn to god and during this time though god is glorifying himself through these different plagues as he's giving pharaoh a chance to repent as well and as this is continuing god is being patience god is waiting to see how they would respond and you know in so many ways i know that i've been rebellious i know that i've questioned god i know that i've turned away from him but god still loves me and is patient with me and so god is patiently waiting for us to turn from our evil ways and to submit to him may this be a warning to us as well as we read as we uh identify with pharaoh as we see similarities in the way that we operate our lives day to day i hope that it will help us to show that god is giving us a chance as well now god confronts egypt's god in this passage now when we read about this plague of the frogs you know we can easily see this as a random plague you know just animals that somehow god uses to show and to make a point but what i found interesting about these plagues is that it has a specific purpose and there's a reason why these objects were chosen by god as a plague to show to reveal to these egyptians where they fell and where they were not able to meet up to the standard of god yahweh god now in egypt there were a lot of frogs in that area because of the nile river and for them frogs were considered a god in their eyes they had an egyptian goddess called heket which had the head of a frog now for the egyptians frogs...
were considered sacred and they did not kill or eat these frogs egyptians worshiped the frog as a female goddess because frogs were common but also the fact that they reproduced very rapidly very quickly not only that but the frogs were creatures of both land and of the water now for them for the egyptians they were amazed at how they can live on both both planes and this is why god used the plague filled with frogs now since the egyptians worshipped the frog god gave them this plague of frogs that you know was in abundance over their land there's some humor behind this as god is unleashing this punishment now we see that these first two plagues the first one the water into blood and now this plague of frogs are related to water and so the different plagues have different themes as we see going moving forward now again the magicians were able to recreate this uh turning these frogs creating frogs but again they're not able to take away the problem that's plaguing the their lives and causing such a headache for for many of them and it looks like pharaoh submits to moses and he pleads with him to take away the frogs now remember the egyptians considered frogs to be like gods so they did not kill them as they're overpopulating uh and going into their homes into their beds into their food and they couldn't do anything about it so these frogs were allowed to roam free upon their lands and this became a major problem for the egyptians because they were...
considered very clean they didn't like things to be dirty which was happening because of these frogs now moses deal does exactly what pharaoh asks him to do and he pleads with god to remove all the frogs and his request is granted and but pharaoh's heart does not change he doesn't live up to his end of the deal of this bargain and he he takes away that promise and he doesn't submit and so pharaoh's guilt increases and he forgets what god promises but god does not forget as we see in our lives as well now when we look at pharaoh we see that he was very strong-willed and very stubborn and what ends up happening is in the end it makes him look foolish and it affected the lives not just of pharaoh but all his people that were under him and this is true of sin that it not only affects us but it affects many around us and i pray that we would learn to fix and turn our ways that we would not be stubborn and fixed on our what we want rather than what god wants and i hope that this would change our attitudes it would change our minds that we will learn to see things through to scripture and that will be open to hearing from god and letting him work in and through us in our lives so let's give this to god in prayer and ask him that he would give us a heart of obedience to follow his ways let us pray father we are so amazed at your power and how you are at work and we know father that as you're teaching the pharaoh on these lessons and yet he did not change i...
pray that it will not be too late for us i pray that as we see the signs as we see signals the warnings that are before us and most of all as we see through your word of how important is to submit and to turn our lives to you i ask and pray that you will give us that heart and you will help us lord to acknowledge you and to walk with you and that your word would change us in in that our hearts would be in line with yours and so we give ourselves to you lord and in jesus mighty name we pray amen you
