Apr 15, 2023foreigner Bellisario and this is our house come on yes come on this house was built in 1924 by Wallace Snaff an amazing architect it is not one of his most famous houses but it is one of his first houses and I think this room shows what makes it so special. so right now we are in the main living room. I think we sometimes call it the Great Hall. We've been in this house for six years, but this room is the last thing we did. We were afraid of this room. Let's be perfectly honest this has been pretty epic no small it's taken a long time to figure out how to live in this space but I think we finally got there and changed this fireplace it used to be at ground level and we picked it up. and i put this hearth in there and built this whole unit in there also one of my favorite things about this room so we made this our movie theater because we had always wanted a screening room but we weren't fancy enough to have a basement that was cool enough to be converted into a screening room this is where we watch The Last of Us this is where Patrick plays his video games this room is amazing we would love to entertain in this room this is Baya she will be with us most of the time tour she goes where we go the main original feature of the house is the iron work which is up on the vaulted ceiling and also on the railing so we have this book which has the complete collection of all the details of the house and one of our favorite details you might recognize this magazine these photos of the 1925 house it was built in 1924 and that's the room we're standing in right now so you were here almost 100 years ago so recently because of this summary photo

1925 we removed these walls and installed these built in shelves on both sides because that's what was original to the house so this is new to us as well and it gives us a great place to display the endless amount of stuff we have yeah like you can see we have a lot of things and that's because she's a very organized Virgo and I'm a very sentimental Pack Rat and then she puts them in the most beautiful way talking about what our books we read our vows from are still there, you will notice it throughout the house.I love photography so all these cameras have been used. They are not just accessories. Patrick is an avid amazing photographer and camera collector who really knows how to use each and every one of them which is crazy to me this photograph is by a photographer named Edward bertinski who has been one of my photographers all time favourites. one of my most prized possessions. I love this photograph so Wallace NAFTA. The architects are somewhat famous for their vaulted ceilings. The great uses of wood and iron work are mixed. They are beautiful. They are like works of art.

One of the things I really wanted to show. Look at this. out there, look at my feet, see how they move and take a panoramic view. One of the features that we loved was this because we met doing theater and this is a real Juliet Balcony. a balcony from which we could do theater with our children we have mainly been having dance parties here when i was pregnant with our first daughter
patrick
played from here with me and all my girls desperate to try to dance with her yes then this is great for parties too dance abroad. The center of most houses and that's definitely the same with us. They all stay here. That's why we have so many different seating arrangements. We love it here. every day when I'm not working or I don't have something to put my energy into this house is my project so I always project one of the things we did right before you got here uh it was put on these pendants and I'm going to give you a little idea. This piece of glass didn't arrive until 8 p.m. m. last night. The magic of A.D. I knew that I knew that you were going to be here. i didn't have any storage space i could put a beautiful thing on it
patrick
was very smart to say we needed drawers so we built this unit here and i had my friend sop beer design these amazing shelves but i really wanted these lights underneath and i was very specific about wanting the light back up here.I love these shelves. It's not always the most useful to have an
open
layout show because you have to keep it very dialed back. I used to have two blue French bowls that I adored until one. One day he told me they were offensive to his eyes so for Christmas I bought him matching white bowls so everything could be unified you decide for yourself you are looking at this shelf it is ok it jumps out at you it is offensive and you have a great gift from christmas i couldn't be happier yes you're in the kitchen you're preparing you're dealing with groceries you're putting things away and you walk into this space where the kids can be all the art supplies we have here very organized this is important to me these two rooms it's where we spend most of our time and like you said kids can do their own thing so you can really do your own oh you want better proof come here. it's our Basquiat look that's going to be worth something one day i promise you guys love to read love to do art projects the whole house is alive and we can be together even if we're getting ready in the kitchen and they need their own space this feels like ours foreignhome
so here we are in the dining room my favorite thing about it is this table you can see we have an angled wall that I think was part of the original house but also got more angled in the remodel , but the people who did the remodeling right before we bought the house, we built this table, we cut to the exact same specifications of the wall, so it's a bit of an odd shape for a dining room table. build a wall of wood we did it in our first house we had and we have done in this one a whole wall of wood we love it because it feels like a cabin or like a boat this piece of art i took this photo of her sitting on the side of this lake and then this box my dad gave me when I was 15 to house my Titanic poster we have room oh my gosh 16 people around this table somehow we love hosting but we could put a lot of people around of this table and a lot of love around this table a lot of good food for sure so this is our staircase we have a lot of photos we have always tried to find a place in the house where we can display them and I guess that's kind of funny because it's very traditional, there are a lot of memories on this wall, for example, this first one here was a conversation that we were having in Paris through a note across the table because we had gotten into a horrible fight and we didn't want to talk to each other but we wanted to not be in a fight anymore so we started passing notes as a surprise he framed it for me we have a lot of pictures of our first born Aurora and we realized we don't have much of our second child so Patrick did me the favor of getting one huge picture of our second child to put up and she's excited about it thank you so right now we're in our office to find an amazing writer for her to spend a lot of time at this desk and in this room I think it's really iconic of our creative process, yes, it's a bit messy, it's constantly changing. for us so when we sat here we got pretty inspired he put up this amazing cork board and then he said we're going to put everything that inspires us to do a bunch of custom woodwork we also have a friend called software so called putting a shelf like this in a normal house would feel so simple and easy but when you do something like this in a house built in 1924 there is no such thing as a straight wall every wall has this weird curve so he would be here passing days making sure everything is perfectly outlined so we really appreciate this space because we built it we imagined it this is one of our favorite portraits this is like some kind of tin set on glass this is by an artist or a friend of ours named Lindsay Ross, we're kind of obsessed with them you'll see them all yeah you'll see them everywhere they use I make whatever my writing partner is come and sit here and they get to pet Baya while we talk I don't know some offices you can get pressure it looks like it's creative and fun and you can invite a friend over you guys can sit here I've certainly taken a nap or two on this couch it's a really special room it's become one of my favorite rooms in the house foreigner we have a special guest for introducing you to our room and it took us a long time to mark the space we really needed help our designer Rosa Beltran came and really guided this process in an important way close thatdoor
there and where it says we are in an apartment we have marked on this bed it's like our perfect bed now it's a dream bed and then all the design elements were really Rosa came in she was in charge of all the cushions and the bedspread and we just found these vintage side tables we love wood raw we love reclaimed wood it helped us figure out pieces like this that would go with these beautiful accessories in the mirror and just like making the place so much more relaxing here here we are in the master bathroom we love this space and this piece of art finally found itshome
this is from a friend of mine his work is phenomenal and one of the first real pieces of art we bought so we love it here it feels like it brings the whole room together the shower was here before but the we converted to a steam shower so we had to replace all this glass once you have that on you can just disappear into this yeah this place really is a sanctuary and it is very elevated too I actually wonder when we're going to tear that down but I'm going to keep it up the thing you love likes the most and I never want to take them down and this is our visitor poof we shower the girls in here sometimes too so everyone comes in and hangs out and I'm obsessed with scents and perfumes so you'll see constant bottles everywhere um and the girls love getting into math. Also, this piece here was another great piece of work that we did. Rosa Beltrán stepped in and found the perfect people to rebuild this and we love it again. More storage space. that's what we learned about unlacquered brass and what we love unlike what we learned we love it we're in Aurora's room now it's not Aurora this is Elliot we love this room this room is something you can adapt and grow into they think this is so the fifth iteration of this room he stops drinking beer again he came up with these he works fast too.
I thought, can we get some bags for Aurora's room and since she showed up three days later with these? I'll take you to this terrace because this is one of our favorite corners and it used to be in
door
s and I think it was kind of a stroke of genius, it's like one of the few things you could do to a Wallace Neff house that makes it more broken wall by creating another beautiful outdoor space for these big ceilings and this exposed wood and then you have this connection to the two kids' rooms and then it connects to Lillian's room, um, so I think the idea is that as they get older they will have a little hangout spots in the middle, what do you think of this room? How do you feel about the design? Where are you with her? in low light it's very very beautiful and quiet in here so we just wanted this space to be really fun and again adaptable and things could change and grow and most importantly at night you can close the blinds here and it's very , very quiet for them when they sleep and they have always slept very well in this room so here we are in the backyard and this is the most special part of our house and also the part that needed the most work when we found this house we fell in love out of everything you've already seen this place is perfect and then we walked into the backyard and it wasn't great this whole piece back here was just some kind of very rough concrete it was like so not so beautiful it made us think twice before we eventually did this we said come on but we knew this was going to be the majority of the work we wanted to do and there was this guy Sean he and his team came in and he just completely transformed this he gave us this amazing fire pit and area to sit, but the most important thing that he gave us were these two olive trees, he told us that he really felt that we needed more shape for the garden and he needed these trees here, but we did not understand who was going to bring them here and he told us that he was going to crane them I've never heard of stretching a tree but he set everything up and we're so glad we invested in during the day we have good shade and at night just create this like you're like you're in a cove back here we have these beautiful lights on the tree I want this garden to look smug covered inweeds and As above, the plants that enter.
I want you like Duck to go through the plants and he brought all these different ivy and told us the longer we stay in the house the more we love the house the more this Ivy would. grow and grow and grow and it's spring and summer it turns all green and it's my favorite part of the house really beautiful oh here we are at the pool this is the furthest part of the house highest in the backyard this was the most recent addition. I think it was in 1972. So there's a part that doesn't feel like the rest of the house either and all we've done here is try to make sure to update it but it also feels like a part. of the original house we struggled to figure out what specifically to do with uh what's behind you when we bought the house there was just this very rickety structure that was basically the same shape as this but it didn't go as far as yeah yeah um so it was like turning this into a really formal lounge space so pool days felt like you had a place to get in and out of the sun.
We love this light. This is an important part. Original Moroccan piece that creates the most beautiful. pattern up here this area is exactly what we wanted it to be we wanted people to come here kids to be able to swim in the pool and you guys to spend all day here and it really does after dark i like that feeling when you come our friends and they feel that our house is a vacation for them thank you very much for coming it has been a pleasure to receive them but it is Sunday yes so let's go back to the Sunday things yes I have to do like 8,000 pancakes to color two more pictures so thanks for coming thanks for coming bye
