I'm Decorating Seashells Now

Jun 02, 2021
Hello, it's me in this week's video. I'm going to paint

seashells

. I should have done blue nails with my yellow background. It could have been like the ocean on the sand. Ah ha, that looks scary. This video was highly requested after I posted it. I walked around my room and showed them my little box of

seashells

. I've had this box of seashells in my life for a long time. I think about six years ago I collected these seashells from the beach. Well, most of them apparently I bought that one for 99 cents and what the hell is that in the past I decided to start painting them in very interesting ways, since you know they all look alike, plus, just because I have a tendency to paint everything, that's what what I do? here are all the ones I took out of the box that were painted, some of them I still like, some I like but they are a little poorly done, ooh that mix is really an apple. what I chose to paint why, but I know I had a lot of fun with these and they bring back memories.

I don't have any memory of that. Oh, and I found these two later at the bottom of the box. I remember being obsessed with this one in Anyway, the moment feels like some kind of malignant disease is spreading. I still have this whole box of seashells and even though they are naturally beautiful, honey, you don't even need makeup. I think it's time for me to do what I do. Make and paint these suckers and I'm going to use this new acrylic paint. I'm at an introductory level now I'm so good, it's an upgrade from my usual dollar store acrylic paint, oh I'm afraid let's get started.

More Interesting Facts About,

i m decorating seashells now...

I want to make a new version of this because I still love rainbows. Some things will never change, but the paint job isn't the best. The rainbow deserves better, so I'm going to put my rain paint on a nice new palette. I'm adding a lot of white paint to each color because I like pastels, the green looks dead so I added a little neon green to try to bring him back to life, stay with me, breathe, he's alive, I'm not. I know where that came from. I haven't seen a therapist yet. Well, let me start painting the damn shell.

Finally, it only took me six years to get to this. I decided to make the rainbow glow horizontally instead of vertically like I had before. I felt like it would flow better with the shape and ridges of the shell. I thought about just painting over that original shell, but I don't know. I decided I just wanted to keep that old one because I'm a hoarder and also. You know from memories, I don't have any memory of it, my main problem with the previous one was how choppy the mix was. I don't even know if you can call that a mix.

I've had a little practice with mixing over the last six. years, so I hope I can do a better job now you can't rush to make a good mix, you have to keep working, work Carol until you're happy. I'm happy now. I'm going to protect the paint with a little Mod. Podge while I'm at it, I have the bright idea of adding a little shine. I have a substantial amount of glitter and want to start using it more. There is no reason why I shouldn't use my glitter. Look, this one has never been used. Opened, this is why I don't use glitter that often, so the protective seal just came off the lid.
This was not sealed for my protection. I don't feel protected. All I was trying to do is just mix some glitter on the lid. Mod Podge just to give that shell a little more, so I painted it on camera, it doesn't really pick up the shine very well, it just looks dirty, it's a little prettier in person, then I used my paste paint pen to add. my little signature and this shell is ready. I think it turned out very nice. I think it's a big improvement over the one I did six years ago. Stop talking about six years until next year.
I'm going to take a very different approach. I'm actually going to paint a beach scene, since it's a beach shell, yeah, it's not that revolutionary of a concept, but whatever, since I seem to be so impressed with my last little wave, that's not cool, so I decided I wanted to do something similar. but this time I'm going to do the whole ocean, it's going to look so cool it looks a little messy right now, but you know, that's usually the case with paint, oh my gosh, no, no, no, Opie, the things are very ugly in the At first, you usually have to move on and get better unless you don't.
That happens sometimes too and that's my headphone cable coming in and out like that. What were you listening to? Big question. This video is sponsored by audible. Hi, I have been sponsored by audible in the past. I loved listening to audiobooks during my long hours of work and painting. I need to have something playing in the background, otherwise it's too scary. I used to listen to TV shows a lot while I was running but I got very distracted. I kept looking up to see what was going on when I found audible, it was perfect because I can hear and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
I'm getting the full experience. Just by listening, sometimes I even choose audiobooks that get me into the spirit of what I'm working on while I'm painting seashells, as you can see, uh, look, I was listening to Treasure Island, which is, you know, ocean pirates take like audible member. Get even more than ever You can choose three titles each month, one audiobook and two Audible originals, start listening to Audible with a 30-day trial and get your first three titles free, there's so much to choose from, there you'll find something you enjoy visit audible.com slash Mariah that's audible.com slash Mariah or text Mariah at 500 500 thank you audible for sponsoring this video so now we're back in Seashell Town and I'm starting to refine I'm starting to refine this little one little more and get into more detailed work now if you're wondering what my process is for doing this kind of thing no one cares most of the time what I'm trying to draw or paint something somewhat realistically somewhat realistically I never just pick an image and copy it, not that there's anything wrong with that, for example, if you want to do that, fine, whatever, I don't care, you can do it, I just get really bored doing that, so instead of That's why I look at a lot of images beforehand, like for example.
In this one I just looked for photos of the ocean. I get an idea of what the different textures look like, what the water looks like, what the sky looks like, what's going on with that sand and then I use my observations to create my own unique beach scene. It's out of my head and that's how I do things most of the time. It is my artistic process subject to change if I ever become a true artist. Once the paint was dry, of course, I covered it with a loving coat of Mod Podge to seal it. protection here is the final shell.
I'm definitely very happy with how it turned out. It looks so cool and for some reason I really like the interior of this one. I didn't really want this to be a complete redo of the previous shell. but it was so here they are side by side, you can judge which one is better, you better like the new one, moving on to the next one. I'm going to use my metallic acrylics for this one. It stops the color change, what does it do? That means I don't know what that means. I think it's just metallic first.
I have to clean this very dirty paint palette. Wow, that's pretty and here go my metallics, so I decided to make this mermaid themed shell, but nothing too outrageous. You know, I just want to. To keep it simple, I used my metallic paint to create a background in mermaid-like colors. Note that the color change paint doesn't look any different than the normal metallic one, so I still don't know what it is once it dried, I came in with this. silver marker very creative name and I'm going to draw little scales on it and if I could stop blocking it with my thumb that would be great, here we go, although this was a pretty simple thing to draw.
I always get nervous when I have it. draw without a sketch as first, make no mistake, so yeah, this turned out really well. I mean, it's simple but very pretty. I don't think there's anything about this that's specifically mermaid, it could have just been like a random fish, but we all know that. It's a mermaid, so for this next Shell I want to do another type of landscape painting II. I was trying to think of things related to the beach or the ocean, otherwise I feel like my ideas get too random, so I started this one with a blood smear and then went in with a very intense greenish-blueish blackish background.
I just wanted to feel really deep and rich, okay, it looks really good and then I did that, wow, why does it keep spreading. Eventually I get the bottom line under control. I decided I wanted to do a water lily scene. It doesn't really make much sense because water lilies are actually more of a lake or pond, they're not really an ocean thing, so it's very loosely related, but it's still More related than an apple, this was definitely the most challenging What have I done. I was having some problems with the lily. I wanted to capture all the details that are in a flower like that, but it's a very small area to work with.
It just kept looking blobby and blobby, what does blobby mean? and look at this scream. I spent a lot of time off camera on that flower. I didn't even realize how much time went by without having the camera on and it changed a lot. um, but there it is, I added a couple of little friends in the background, hello guys, hello again and the last little finishing touches. I think this one turned out pretty good. I'm still not one hundred percent happy with how the flower came out and maybe the water lilies could have been a little brighter, I think they blend in too much with the background, but I really like how dramatic it is and how the flower really stands out from the background dark.
This last shell has a darker tone. color so I'm going to use some plaster on it, it's always hard to open this container oh, I had to grow my two extra hands to open it thanks. I'm just painting the plaster there. I wanted to make a target. Pearlescent metallic paint, which I know is very, very transparent, so a base coat was necessary. It's a really beautiful kind of pearl color. Oh yeah, on top of that, I wanted to make a sort of metallic rainbow pattern using the ridges on the shell. The problem is that the ridges get super small and then start to disappear at the end of the show, so very quickly my little stripes started to stray and twist, nope, so somehow I thought doing this would help.
So I ended up cleaning everything I could. That's a death grip. I'm going to start over this time. I'm going to do things a little different. Well, I will continue to make mistakes, but this time I started from the end. from the shell and worked my way to the bottom, I simplified the pattern a bit, some of the lines look a little wobbly but that's just because they were handmade by a human with a lot of flaws but I don't think that ruins I think the overall effect is still quite good. I like this one, it reminds me of candy, a carnival or a clown.
No, I'm not a clown. What I'm trying to say is that I like it, it's very fun and festive. I didn't want to add my signature on the outside because there wasn't really a good place for it, so I directed it to the inside, which looks incredibly stupid. Let's not talk about that, so here are my five new additions to my painted seashell collection, thank you all. For asking me to do this, I had a lot of fun and it was like one of those projects that was thrown in the trash and forgotten for six years, so thanks for being interested and asking me to pick it up.
Again, I'm so glad I was able to revisit this thanks for watching and I'll see you next Friday, bye.
