I Made DIY Plastic Pins...it's a good time

Feb 23, 2020
Hi, it's me, so today I'm going to do something I haven't done in a long

time

. I feel like I said the same thing in my last introduction. I know it's been a while since I created this book too. episode yes I did it I'm going to make some DIY

pins

this is what I did this was this was days of work fits in the palm of my hand it was worth it though it was definitely worth it too I see you looking at the foil in shirt pickle rainbow is pretty amazing, just to let you know this is a limited edition design.

I also have a promotion for 10% off when you use the code pickle ten if you've been on my channel for a long

time

then I'll know I've done this before all these friends here. I don't know where I was pointed here, so I've

made

several of these in the past. Let's start making the

pins

so that our adventure begins with a couple of pieces. paper, here we go, paper. I'm going to cut the leaves into smaller sheets and I'm just using one piece at a time to sketch out what will become each of my different pin designs, so what do I want to do?

More Interesting Facts About,

i made diy plastic pins it s a good time...

It's something fascinating. I decided I wanted to create a set of pins with the same theme, so I'm going to use food animal combinations. Oh yes, my task is to create a set of food animal combinations and of course I was taking it very seriously. It really took me a long time to think of all the different ideas for these designs. I even outlined a bunch of them beforehand. I used this notebook to just scribble down my ideas really quickly, so there are some nightmares in there. Eustace is that you and you thought about the paint job.

It was creepy anyway in the past. I think I rushed the drawing process a little because coloring is the fun part. I just want to get to that this time. I decided to slow down, be patient, make a

good

sketch. Okay, oh wow, I never thought you'd have any use for that song, but there it is again. Some of them may seem a little confusing, but don't worry, I can't explain it to you now, although we'll talk about it later. I loved coming. I came up with these ideas and I think I ended up with 12 different food animal combinations in total, combining food and animals is very high on my list of obsessions.

It makes me very happy. Can we call them anything other than food animal combinations? very catchy and it's a little annoying to say what about the animals that sound like yogurt or Fanta moods that are just being silly, ok I don't know. Oh, food animals, that works. I like that outside of this video, although I'll probably never use that word. These are all the sketches of the food animals that have been

made

and it's time to bring them to life. They are currently a bit dead in sight, so this is what I use to create my pins.
The incredible

plastic

that shrinks. They're called Shrinky Dinks. I like them. I only say shrink

plastic

though because I feel like an idiot using the words "shrinky dinks" you can use this for all kinds of different crafts, I'm not too sure about picture frames, why would you do that? Let me open this, love, who hates. the sound of the plastic crinkling sorry this is the rough and ready variety so you can still see through them but it's not perfectly clear that they have a crystal version but I've never actually used them I'm going to color them with pasca paint pens get rid of this pen, although she doesn't even go here so I'm just picking the first design to color it.
Ah,

good

choice, so I'm cutting a square from the plastic about the same size as the sketch. and then I'm using some tape to secure the pieces together so they don't move. This is my demo of that, make sure the rough side is facing out and we're ready to color, so this little guy is a sloth. He was going to be happy, but that just didn't seem right to me, that's how it ended. Instead, it looks kind of familiar, but no, I can't seem to place it, so this wasn't intentionally based on that squishy sloth, but One second I was just drawing a sloth and then the next second I was like, "Oh, you decided to combine a sloth and a burrito because sloths are slow and lazy so I thought if I put him in a burrito it would be kind of like he was in a blanket, I'm trying to be clever with some of these ideas so bear with me with me once I was done coloring I just took the sketch off the back, I save each of my sketches because if I ever wanted to redo this I could use the same sketch again once you pull it away from the paper you really start to see all those little imperfections ooh, it's like looking at your face up close, moving on to the next design.
I chose this one at random and then decided. No, I don't want you, do I? I changed it to this one, instead this is a polo penguin because penguins like the cold and the poles are cold. Oh, we're dealing with a genie here, also penguins are shaped like lollipops, oh. Yes, I kept confusing these two markers a lot and it was driving me crazy. I decided I hated that dark blue outline, so I ended up going over it and I think it came out nice. Well, who's next? Just choose one. Well, I selected the pork for this. one I really didn't have a smart reason why I chose to pair a pig with ice cream.
I wanted to make a pig and I wanted to make ice cream, so they ended up together, but I really like it. I think the colors look very pretty. It makes me think a little that the cup isn't perfectly symmetrical, but you know, I drew it so something strange is to be expected. Well, who's next? So this one, I mean, okay, there's nothing. It's wrong, but this idea is nothing new or exciting. We have seen the design of the cat burger. Basically, this is the same thing, but instead of a cat it's a bear. Wow, how creative.
I don't give myself a single point of originality for this. one, but I really wanted to make a hamburger and I thought a bear would work because then it could be a hamburger, huh, it's a cheeseburger, actually my brown marker, just you know, had a little accident, that's all of us, don't worry . It's strange though because I've used them several times in the past and never had that problem, but this kept happening and then of course I have to wait forever to let the paint dry. It's one thing to use these instead of colored pencils. You have to wait for the paint to dry before going over it or you'll end up with a big blurry mess.
Well, there it is, oh, this guy, so this is supposed to be a moose, it's a play on words, you know? because it's a moose but it's also a chocolate moose, oh okay you have to stop doing that, and look, I mixed up the two orange colors again, when will I realize that I like this idea, but maybe I should have designed this? in a slightly different way that didn't make him literally look like a pile of poop. The funny thing is that in my original sketch I made this in a small bowl but then for some reason I changed it, but it's chocolate mousse, not antler poop.
Okay, again you're sorry for rejecting you before, so this is a straw bunny and it's based on a drawing I did in the past. Some people said that bunny looks sad, so he had a change of heart. Most of my DIY pain collection was actually. colored with colored pencils, but I will say that these pens are much easier and faster to use than pencils. Both have advantages and disadvantages. You can't get as much detail with the Pasca pens and obviously you can't blend or shade. You also have pretty limited colors. I hope they come out soon with some new colors because we are definitely missing some.
I mean, there's no dark teal, there's no taxi yellow, there's no lime green and not to mention there's no baby blue, what kind of world? Are we living in a place where baby blue is not a priority color? Nobody cares. Here's another familiar face. Well, the face is actually a little new, but it's another cat pie. Oh, he's running out of ideas. Ahaha. No, I just like certain ideas so much that I have to do it. I make different versions of them over and over and over and over again also why my cup cats are always in a bad mood I don't know as much as I like to say I won't make another cup cat I'm not a liar I remembered the last time I used them when the paint shrinks, any area that has had a lot of coats, the surface gets a little blurry, they grow fur, so I kept that in mind and tried not to apply too many coats, but it was a little difficult for me avoid that because you know I'm always making mistakes and having to go over them is so unpleasant they're not as forgiving of shrink wrap as they normally are and here we go with my cotton. candy sheep I wanted to make blue cotton candy, but the lightest blue out there was still too dark, so I decided to make it white, which is quite unusual for cotton candy to be white.
I was also taking into account the fact that all the colors will darken a little when they go into the oven, obviously I combined cotton candy with the sheep because cotton candy knows they look alike. I am doing something wrong? Here I am. I added little pink and blue dots to the cotton candy to kind of help with that cotton candy vibe a little more and I actually really like that, wow Georgey I don't know what it is about this one but I just love it, I just I love this little face and then he waves and he says oh, I'm calm, I'm normal, I'm an adult, so he's a duck.
The only reason I decided to combine pineapple and duck is because they are both yellow but I think the combination works and he is really cute just look at his little face I don't know why but I feel like his name is Georgie Georgie one of his eyes is a little bigger than the other but you know what I don't really care, he's a very special little guy, okay? We're getting to the end now, let's move on to these last few. This is a watermelon fox. I wanted to make watermelon and I wanted the animal to be dark pink and a fox was one of the only animals I could think of that it has. a color that is not far from dark pink so that is the reason for that decision.
I don't know why I decided to make it so relaxing. It is a very comfortable watermelon. This is a kind of squirrel ice cream. It seems a little cheeky to be honest and not give you spoilers, but it gets worse. Look, notice how many times I go over his mouth area, the number of layers I paint on that area, I think I may have even done a few layers. camera just take note of that and last but not least this is an idea I took from a drawing I made in my sketchbook. I posted a photo of this on Instagram but I never included this in any video until now, it's a puppy on a pumpkin plane with some gills, what does a puppy have to do with pumpkin besides the fact that it's just a cute combination, I just called him pumpy, pumpy, the pumpkin and I thought he deserved to be a part of this, okay, so these are all of them? of my designs finally colored Wow yeah it was two days of work believe it or not um so it took a second so now I'm ready to cut them out this is definitely the least fun part of the process. the part I hate is a pain in the butt, it takes forever, this took over an hour just to cut them out and the more complicated you make the shapes the longer and more annoying it is and these have so many little nooks and crannies.
Cutting the plastic is very stiff and tends to crack but you should do it if you do it yourself and want to avoid the hassle, you can leave a border around the outside instead of cutting to the edge but I. I'm never happy with how it looks, the edge ends up very uneven and then it's like it looks bad, just make it right, no, no, not again once I finally suffered from that, you know, now I've created tons of little bits of plastic. we can move on after cutting them. I like to go around the edges and do some touch-ups.
Sometimes the scissors like to scrape the paint off the edges, so I take the time to do a quality check on each one. make sure the contours remain clean and even and I'm happy with every design and boy. I'm very pleased with these at this point. I love how each and every one of them turned out, but it's time for my little friends to go. on a very hot holiday i would like to introduce to you, it's just a small oven so set it to 325 degrees fahrenheit and read that and now i'm pulling out a baking sheet ok that's gross cover it with some parchment paper and place a our first victim.
I'm going to melt your face and here I go on a long trip to the oven. Thanks for that update. Place the thing in the oven. Leave it there. It takes between 2 and 3 minutes. It's pretty fast. You will notice it. it curls and makes the wave and in the end it should be almost completely flat and then I take it off and immediately put something flat on it to make sure it's completely flat and let it cool like this on the next one you can do multiple at a time but I think It works much better to do it one by one.
You can give each of them personalized attention and get to them quickly enough to completely flatten them. Here goes another one. I still have no idea what my oven was. boomed loudly for no apparent reason the biggest mistake I see people make is notleave them in the oven long enough try to take them out while they're still like that don't do that unless something goes wrong they should flatten out when they're done You're ready uh-oh something went wrong so this is always a risk when you have little thin pieces that they stand out. If you catch it while it's still warm, you might be able to save it.
Oh, it will be hot, so now they are. all out of the oven and cooled we had pretty good results overall no major problems this is the worst remember this mouth I told you about look at it now so I tried to fix it by simply removing the loose paint and then went over it with a liner fine and a white gel pen. There were similar issues, one and a couple more, mainly on the faces, is where I saw the problems happening. I had to do quite a few little touch ups and then I went over the edges of this because the edges curled down so I had to redraw the outline to hide that they are now cooked and primed but we want the paint to stay fresh and protected, so now I'm going to apply a top coat.
This is another benefit of using pastes instead of pencils you don't use. You don't have to worry about smearing when you apply the icing because that can be a problem when using colored pencils. A small problem, although apparently the icing stuck to the paper and for some reason the icing disappeared, this is afterward. two coats usually this comes out very shiny they ate it up which would have been fine if I wanted a matte finish but I wanted a glossy finish so I decided to break out my dimensional magic and this is a thick gloss that mimics a resin look It's not as durable and doesn't give as clean or even a clean finish as resin does, but I try to reduce my exposure to toxic materials if there is an alternative.
I just, you know, don't try to die before me. I'm not really into resin at the moment so this is fine for me, there may be some bubbles in there but you can pop most of them with a needle, although sometimes they are buried under the surface and it's like they are there. impossible to burst so you have to deal with it, it takes about three to six hours to dry but once it dries it's completely clear and I think the gloss makes them look much more finished and well put together and now finally They are ready to be made into pins, speaking of pins, be sure to check out my new enamel pins in my shop.
I designed custom packaging for them and am very happy with how they turned out, each based on one of my soft designs from the past. So many details to them, this one literally has every bit of color. I'll leave the link in the description and the iCard if you're interested. Back to these folks, I'm getting some of my pins and I'm using some e6000s. Glue is always a pain to unclog, dammit, and just glue them together now, if you're interested in trying this whole process yourself I'll leave links to the different materials I've used in the description once the glue is dry.
I finally finished it and wow, this was a much bigger project than I remembered. Once Upon a time. I made hundreds of these, but you know, I didn't really put that much effort into the designs. I'm very happy with how they turned out. If some of these designs were turned into products, which one(s) would you be most interested in seeing and in what form? I can't make any promises, but if there's something many of you want, I'll try. to make this happen, I hope you enjoy this video and like my new food and mole family, probably the last time I will use that word and I will see you next Friday, bye.
