Hello guys and welcome back to my channel. I'm very excited about today's video. In fact, I challenged myself to make some big DIY pieces. If you follow me a lot, you know I do a lot of

farmhouse

decor

, but I do a lot of smaller pieces like a table. um or shelf hangers or smaller signs just because a lot of the

dollar

tree

signs and

wall

art are a lot smaller, but today I'm challenging myself to create some beautiful DIYs using

dollar

tree

items, but these have to be big so I think they turned out really nice, I enjoyed putting them together and like I say they are budget friendly and dollar tree friendly.

high

huge

decor

pieces that will be a focal point in my

home

and are very inexpensive compared to what you go to the store and see

wall

art decor pieces so I really hope you enjoy them and let's move on. and jump to the video to get these larger pieces. I knew I would have to put together some of the dollar tree signs. I found a bunch of these signs left over from summer on my dollar tree, so I went ahead and grabbed them first.

What I had to do was put them together to make the larger piece. I turned these upside down. I'm going to glue them on the front to paint the back which is dull, but I'm trying to put them on. those little holes at the top and bottom so they spread out and you wouldn't see so many little holes at the top. I went ahead and removed the hanger and then used some of these giant popsicle sticks from Walmart. I went ahead and put a ton on the back to make sure it was nice, sturdy, and would stay together.

If I didn't want to do this with dollar tree elements, I would have used pallet wood to create this sign. I love working with wooden pallets, it's free and easy to use, it has a beautiful finish and my dad always had some or my husband brought

home

some from work that were free so I always had them on hand but you have to use energy. tools when doing that, so that's something to keep in mind if you wanted to make this sturdier, but for the dollar tree items I just put these signs together, went ahead and glued some of the popsicle sticks to the end so that I would have the same height you could glue a piece of this craft paper to completely cover the backing and it looks much better if someone were to see the bag instead of seeing all those bright flamingos.

I used some of the dollar. tree putty to fill the holes. I've never used dollar tree caulk before and it works perfect and I love it, it's very light and fluffy and air dries super fast so I really enjoyed using it, but For this sign, I'm going to go ahead and paint this white. I ended up applying two coats of white paint and I'm going to use that as my main color because I'm going to paint these house letters dark and I really want them. To start, I bought these cards from Walmart, they cost less than two dollars each, but that makes this project a little more expensive, so if you want to cut the price in half and keep it as affordable as possible, you can definitely just print

your

house letters and then paint them instead of using them, but I feel like these 3D letters that come out of there are very easy to paint and they're already premade so they're super easy to use and I think it does.
It looks

high

end but I'm using some of my old brown wax and this acts as a sort of stain and it's thinner than paint and it's actually a little bit transparent so you can see the wood grain behind it, think it is so. It looks beautiful like the dark stain without having to come out and the stain smells a lot and sometimes it's hard to work with so I enjoy using the old wax and that's from Waverly and it comes in those little bottles just like the little chalk paints and then as I set them aside and let them dry I'm using my dollar tree level this has been very helpful especially for making these faux wood pieces and I'm just using a paint marker to trace each side which I tried to spread it out so the lines hit where the two signs met so it's camouflaged there a little bit more and then I didn't want as strong black lines so I'm taking a piece of sandpaper.
My favorite sandpaper squares I bought at Walmart, but they are in the power tools section where you would buy pre-cut sandpaper and then go ahead and add my lettering and then some of these beautiful floral picks from Dusty Miller that I recently picked up from Walmart, so those floral picks remind me of a larger lamb's ear, but I love them so much that I thought they were so full and so pretty that you could definitely go for the dollar tree flowers if you want. to go cheaper but Walmart has beautiful floral selections and honestly that's one of my favorite places to get floral selections because they have beautiful ones for 98 cents and if you haven't checked out Walmart's fall selections yet make sure you do. because they have beautiful fall picks, even some similar to these little neutral blue and cream fall picks for 98 cents, so I love them so much, but I added a bow in the center of those leaves and then I want to share them with you.
How can you add some different selections? I'm going to stick in my everyday neutral decor, like the greenery and then the bow, and then I did that or I realized that you were going to be able to put in any type of selection. that you wanted on each side of these arcs, you could definitely add a piece of wire if you wanted, but I wanted to make it interchangeable, so if I ever wanted to change it later, but as you can see, I added some of those neutrals. pumpkins and it looks really pretty and then I'll show you in just a second how I added some colorful fall and how it comes out of that makes it look like a beautiful piece as well and I think that's how it turned out.
It looks great, it's actually a

huge

piece and I put it on top of my bed and in these shots it doesn't look that big, especially on camera, but I promise you it's a huge piece and it would have been very expensive if you had made it . I found this in a store, but we made it very cheap, so the next thing we will create is a large windmill. These are very expensive. I just saw one for $60 in the store and knew we could create this for cheaper. I created a smaller windmill on my channel and you guys really seem to enjoy it so I thought it would be fun to put this one together on a larger scale so to start I'm using a dollar tree hula hoop, the little wooden circle in the lobby hobby. as well as some dowels from Dollar Tree and then I just cut out a little cardboard pattern.
I did it freehand and got it out very quickly, so I ended up cutting it a little bit to make it like a thinner piece that I wanted to be able to put two of the windmill blades on a placemat. I ended up using six of these dollar tree placemats and these are like the thin and sticky ones, not like the thicker and cushiony ones, so I hope that makes sense, but I just wanted these to be able to be painted really well and be rigid and they will hold up very well because they will be supported a little on the back but they will have to remain standing.

your

s, so I put them in the opposite direction, traced them on this placemat, and cut them out at the beginning.
I ended up only cutting eight of them but then I went ahead and cut three more so my windmill has 11 blades but I wish I had made 12 just because it's a little uneven so I had to space them out so you wouldn't notice the glue Hot will damage these plastic placemats so instead of using hot glue my mom showed me how you can add clear tape to the back of these so it doesn't ruin your placemat windmill and I thought that was a great idea, so that's what I ended up doing and then I stuck this on a couple of little hot glue dots so it wouldn't melt my placemat and then take them outside and spray them with a little bit of this hammered oxide-oleum, but any kind of silver would have worked, the hula hoop actually comes apart, so I'll be able to feed myself. all these windmills there now you don't have to do this step you can just glue the windmill blades down but this makes it much more decorative and looks more realistic every time the windmill blade tilts down one side so you can I can say that after you put it on there it looks realistic and lifts up the front piece and I love it so much more so I just traced a little circle freehand on a piece of cardboard and then measured it on each one of the blades of the windmill after you. cut one out, you can use it as a template and just put it on the next one and you can cut that one out, cut that one out and I just used a razor blade or a razor on one of those little dollar tree mats. and it works really well and I was able to cut them pretty straight, I had them all there and then I took them off so I could take this hula hoop outside and I sprayed it with silver and a little bit too. wooden circle, you can see that all these rods are grouped together in the center and make it very thick, so I had to trim some of them so that they fit better together and more surface area would touch the wooden circle so that they would be glued and only one would not would be on top.
I just piled on the hot glue. I felt like it would hold up a lot better if everyone was grouped together, so I ended up pushing. That goes down, but I add a little circle of wood to the back just to give it a little extra reinforcement and then I attached these little windmill blades to where the hula hoop touches. I think this is the part that makes the whole windmill look. Alright, I'm using some truffle brown and it gives the perfect rust color paint. I'm going to pay close attention to the edges and just drag it across the top and bottom of the windmill.
I want to paint a little bit on the hula hoop and then whatever's left on my brush, I'm going to go over the entire sheet. I think this looks so realistic and rustic and so pretty and I love how it turned out and this is what it all looks like together like I said. I just saw a windmill and it was a little smaller than this one in the store for about 68 dollars and I made it for less than ten dollars and I love it so much it is such a big statement piece that looks so beautifully decorated with greenery or even just hanging next to other

farmhouse

decor and next is another fun project.
It's not as big as the first two projects, but it's still a lot of fun and a larger piece that could be a standalone piece. I'm using those same summer signs and I'm trying to use up all of my summer decor before I switch to fall, but I turn them in the opposite direction so they're connected along the end and then once again they're going to stick them together. hot glue along with lots of popsicle sticks as I already made a white project and a great project in this video. I wanted to do something different, so I'm going to use my truffle brown color and give it this look.
Like faux wood, I'm going to go ahead and just do a solid coat of truffle paint and then I'm going to create some faux lines using a paint marker and just drawing the lines sideways instead of vertically this time a lot every time I do it. . I paint with this dark brown color, I have to use it as black to dry it. The brush is really nice, so I'm going to do the same thing and actually my brush was a little wet, so it didn't do exactly what I wanted, but I went ahead and just dragged this over the edges.
I love how it looks when you do that first and then just put the excess paint on your brush right there and then add a few little darker spots here and there. and then I go over that with a little bit of silver lining or I think it's mineral colored beige paint just to make it pop and have a little bit more color. I had to go to several different places to find the right hooks and I still didn't find exactly what I wanted. I wanted a long hook that stuck out a lot. This is the only thing I could find.
Very economical. These were from Walmart and were still a little overpriced for what they were and I hated it. I had the second hook on the bottom, but you don't really pay attention to it because I use nautical rope to hang them, so I go ahead and just space them out. I ended up hot gluing them, I know. That's not the best option if you had liquid nails or other glue on hand, I would recommend using it maybe even mixed with a little hot glue so it stays on until it dries, but my goal for this project was to use some of these planners unique terrariums. little succulent pots, I thought they looked really cool and I wanted to use them so bad so I'm going ahead and I'm going to use three of them on these hooks on this sign and then a sweet subscriber told me a really cool idea.
He had shared a planner that he had used these rocks with and I said I didn't like how the rocks were so loose and just weren'tshiny and sticky together like when you buy a high end plant so I'll do what she recommended and put them in a bag and mixed them with some mod podge and talked about how it would keep them together and make them nice and shiny as well that's exactly what I did and I liked it, I think it turned out really good. The only thing she would recommend is that if she did this again next time she wouldn't use mod podge, but she would try to use maybe more like Elmer's clear glue or something that was clear because the mod podge took so long.
It's time for it to dry on the bottom so it stayed white and milky for a long time but I feel like the clear glue might have dried. I just stood there and took as long as it needed to dry and the project would have been done much faster, but I went ahead and used a plastic fork and scooped them up at the bottom. I don't recommend making it too thick because I like it. I said you don't want to seal your mod podge on the bottom, you want this to be able to dry, but I thought it would look really nice, especially if you would like to see it from the side if I had put the nautical on. rope through the little holes at the top would have hung in the wrong direction and those little balloons would have kept spinning back and forth, so I ended up tying the nautical rope so it was straight with a piece of jute twine to the small hook and then I tied a double knot at the top and then I was able to put the little hook on top or put the little nautical rope on top of the hook so you can see what I'm talking about here, the rocks. on the top they dried very quickly and then on the bottom it still has the mod podge.
I took a stick and stuck a few hoses in there to get the mod podge to go ahead and dry, but I just go. to show you so I can finish this project how I added some of the Dollar Tree succulents, put a different one in the middle and then these two on the sides, I think it turned out a beautiful and unique piece that would be a lot of fun. I even hung it as a little sign on top with a little quote about plants or just something really cute and I thought it looked really cool.
Thank you all so much for coming and joining me today. This video was so much fun making great DIY pieces.
