In today's video, we are creating some gorgeous DIY projects

using

the craft square

wood

planks

. These come from Dollar Tree and come in two sizes and you get six pieces in each making each project very affordable. I'm so happy Dollar Tree carries them. I feel like it gives us a lot of options and we can DIY more easily with a blank canvas instead of having to scrape or redo all those little signs. I'm really excited to go ahead and jump into the video and show everyone how I end up

. The first thing I knew I had to try whenever I used these wooden planks was to use several of them to join them together to create a larger sign.

I love making signs and if you followed me for a long time on this channel. I make signs all the time with

dollar

tree

signs using seasonal ones and I have to scrape off everything on the sign so I was excited to be able to create my own mostly with

dollar

tree

elements like. I said that in addition to using this paint stick from Walmart, they sell them in a pack of three for a little over a dollar, so they're still very affordable, but I felt like I needed support if you wanted to substitute this with items from the dollar tree that you could use.

Some of the seasonal stakes, like the garden stakes they put in, you could take that back piece off and it would be a long, thin bit of wood that you could use to connect them all together. I tried to space them evenly and leave a little space. between each board, so this looks more like a realistic pallet sign and I love how it turned out. I didn't get the paint bars perfectly even on the top and bottom, but you really won't be able to tell. After decorating it, I loved this little dollar tree wooden cutout word.

It was in the Valentine's decoration. I hadn't seen it anywhere yet so I was very excited to find it and I'll put it aside in the painting in just a Second, but first I wanted to go ahead and prepare this sign. I start by painting it with a super dark gray color. It's Elephant Waverly Chalk Paint and this is going to be a base color because I'm going to dry brush over this. white and I want a lot of that darker gray to show through if I put the white on the natural wood. You couldn't really see the contrast so I love the effect it gives every time I go like the super dark one. with the white and I didn't let the gray dry 100% so you can see it's blending a little bit and I love that effect, it gives it like a stripe effect and it looks more natural instead of just being striped like this It looks very smooth and has those beautiful lines, but after it dried, I sanded the edges a little to make the gray show up even more.

I stared at this house sign forever. I couldn't decide if I wanted to paint it. black or if I wanted to use that same super dark gray color, then you'll have to let me know in the comments below what you would have painted this with. I decided to go ahead and jump in and paint it black and I'm so glad I did because I feel like it really adds a lot of contrast, makes the house really stand out from that sign, but I left the little heart out so I could paint it gray just to soften the sign a little bit. . a little bit and I'm so glad I did it because it somehow makes everything come together, even though I have the gray in the background, the heart still pops out to you and then I love adding the seams on everything, you're probably tired. of me adding this to so many projects but I think it's just adorable and I love it and I felt like this sign needed something the black was erasing all the letters and you couldn't really see the m and I was just afraid people wouldn't be able to say it or it didn't look like a real m so I used a white paint marker to go around the house and then for the heart I used black markers because I knew white doesn't appear on the heart and then I turn it over and I use a stable gun.
Clearly this is a new staple gun and I don't know how to use it yet or how to align it. super wide so I lost the thread a couple of times and my little threads were too short to tie so I ended up having to hot glue them together and put some support on but it still holds up nice and tight and then I found this . bohemian ribbon at hobby lobby I'm not sure if it goes 100% with this sign, but I was dying to use it and I think it looks really cute, it has browns, grays or blacks, so I love how it looks.
It looks like I was going to paint my wooden hanger, but I feel like it gives a really cool contrast, so let me know what you think. Next, I'm using more square wooden boards and I think this is my favorite project in this video. I think it turned out very, very nice. I wanted to create a sort of farmhouse planter and since this is like natural wood, I knew I was going to be able to give it a stained effect, so I was so excited I tried to be very careful. When I was building this, I didn't get a lot of hot glue on the outside, so if I smear it a little bit and that doesn't mess it up, now you'll see I had to try to glue them on with a little bit of glue.
Of the tower blocks I stacked some and tried to line them up before gluing everything together and I'm going to connect two sides and then put the whole box together so you'll have to play with this and see how yours fits but so mine will be in a square complete I had to tuck in a couple of edges, so you'll see what I mean in just a second, so try to do that before you glue everything together, try to keep it together. Make sure it's very square because on one side of the tower blocks I had to move it back and leave enough room for the edge of that piece of wood, so right there leave a little bit of room for that to sit on top. because like I said, it has to overlap a little bit and this just made it square and it fit flush, but I feel like the tower blocks worked perfect, made it super sturdy by adding so many in there and then I do the same thing.
To add a background, simply place it on top of another square board and then add some of those little blocks. My Walmart has been out of this vintage wax for so long and I found this huge container the last time I went. I was really excited to use this so I ended up using it on a couple of my projects today, but I love using this wax, it works as a stain. I hate dyeing in my craft room because it smells so bad and it gets everywhere and you. I can't get it off your hands but it works great so you just paint it and then I use an old washcloth to wipe off the excess and it gives it that dark stain look.
I love it so much it worked perfect. for these wooden planks because it really absorbed them like dye is supposed to work after I built my wooden box I cut styrofoam and put it in there and then I had to share these flowers with you all they are new for spring I guess at Dollar Tree. but they are beautiful, I think they are some of the best flowers Dollar Tree has put out. They have realistic and not cheap vegetation at the bottom. They are simply called wildflowers, but they are beautiful. I love the little natural white flowers at the top.
I'm pretty sure they had other colors so I'll have to check, but I bought like five picks and I think that's all my dollar tree had, but I definitely want to look for more because they have a lot of ideas for these. I went ahead and cut mine off the stems and with wire cutters so I could bend them and make a nice arrangement and then I just stuck in extra boxwood that I had lying around on the bottom so you couldn't see the styrofoam. and then I'll show you some options that you could use. You could paint that little magnetic circle that the dollar tree has or had a galvanized flower from Walmart that would work on the front.
I really wanted an amulet, but decided to use this. wooden heart in these little wooden bundles from Dollar Tree and I took it outside and sprayed it with some silver spray paint and then gave it a galvanized look by applying a kind of dark gray elephant and some white. Make a cute little bow out of jute rope and hot glue it on, then just pin it to the front and I feel like this is a beautiful project that I will definitely put aside anything I can't make next year. I wanted to show you all another way you can use these wooden planks that I love and that's when I pick up one of these little canvases from Dollar Tree and they don't stand up on their own and I hate hanging them on the wall.
They are too small for the decor I'm going for, so I love making them freestanding. I feel like it makes it look like a higher end piece and overall really nicer, so I'm using one of the longer boards that I painted it with this medium gray paint and then of course dry brush over that with my elephant color darker but I feel like it matches the text um and the little laundry picture that was on the sign so you really want to color coordinate that Paint this with the photo you want to match and then I hot glue it on at the bottom and I support it with some tower blocks.
I decided to add a little bow for texture, but I think it really adds flavor to all of this. cheap little dollar tree scions and make them look much prettier and much easier for me to use. I had to show everyone if they wanted to make a mini sign and not put too many of these together, what it would look like. I love to do. These little mini signs for my tiered trays or attach little bead hangers to hang as if from hooks I have on shelves throughout the house, but I wanted this to look like a little framed sign and it turned out really cute.
So, using one of the square pieces of wood as a background, I cut some of these dollar tree popsicle sticks to size. These are like the biggest popsicle sticks that the dollar tree carries or that I've seen there and I'm trimming them to fit all the sides so you have to cut two of them smaller to fit inside and then I wanted cover this with some decorative scrapbooking paper and hobby lobby has this beautiful cotton paper and I used it a lot last year and it's a really fun and easy way to get a lot of texture and decoration, um, without having to you have to paint a lot and stuff or go in and paint your own, like faux barn wood or shiplap, and then use that same old wax that I guess I use on a In this video there are a lot more projects than I thought, but the I paint, let them dry completely and then glue them in place.
I also added in this dollar tree chalkboard label which I love. I made a small bow with more jute. a string and then just use some dollar tree stickers, that's how I decided to decorate mine, if you didn't want to go that route you could take a chalk pen and write whatever you wanted, but I feel like this was really cheap and this just It looks really cute, like I said, a tiered tray and for number five I'm going to make a little riser out of these planks. I've been dying to try this for a long time, so I just had to see if it would work.
I ended up using four of these planks and attached them to one to be the support, but I ended up turning them upside down and putting some popsicles on the edges so they wouldn't rock back and forth. It had more support on the edges and there would be no gaps, but these little risers are perfect for elevating types like candles and picture frames. I wouldn't put a lot of weight on this one, um, but I feel like it was pretty. sturdy in the end but like I said I just added extra support with the popsicle sticks and then for the legs I'm using one of these little puzzles it was like in a bucket every time I bought it but after I opened it. and take it apart you can cut it up and then you get all these big chunky blocks that would work perfect for crafting so I had to use them as little feet and I feel like they are so much prettier than the little wooden blocks. tree, I put them in the four corners and then went over this with more antique wax.
I messed up on this project or didn't understand what I originally wanted, but I thought I was going to make a really cool pattern and paint like the big thick stripe in the middle white and then give it these two little lines on the edges and paint them white and I should have known all along that the painter's tape wasn't sticking to this old wax Alright, I think it was still a little wet, not completely dry, so I tried putting the mod podge on the tape to get crisp lines, but I was bleeding underneath, so I was left as a super blurry white. line and I knew that wasn't going to work, I wasn't going to be happy with it, so I decided I had to go ahead and dry brush the whole thing with white paint.
Now originally I thought this was something I could do and let the dark brown color show through, so it worked, that's what I had to do, so after putting a lot of white paint on there, I feel like it still needed more details, so I made this on a frame a few videos ago and I changed one of the plastic dollar tree frames by cutting out some of the little wooden hair beadsin half and it turned out really pretty and I loved it so I was going to try this with some of my chunky beads and it worked really well too. really good, antique wax doesn't soak into shiny wood so I thought it would be a waste of time to try to put wax on these beads because they are very shiny and coated with something so it's not like natural wood so I just dipped into the white paint and tried to blend it as much as possible, but I still feel like it turned out really well.
I love how chunky the white beads look. It had a lot of detail and like I said you can put mini plants, candles or picture frames in it but they always look great and add so much detail to each space. I really enjoy the Crafter Square at Dollar Tree and love everything new. items you are receiving, I can't wait to take another one of my road trips to the Dollar Tree and see what else I can get to create this year. It's so fun to go to the Dollar Tree not knowing what to expect and then come. home with some fun new craft supplies.
