s don't They are so difficult mainly because the design is totally what you need, the sink will be where it is. es and the shower will stay where it is things just need to be updated so stay tuned and let's start building or let's do a demo because the first thing we need to do is tear this place apart.

The demonstration of this bathroom went relatively quickly. I started by taking out the dresser with no problems, this thing was not too sturdy and came out very quickly. From there I was able to pull out the cabinet over the toilet, the mirror, and then the toilet itself. This definitely wasn't the funniest part. Taking a shower like this is going to be different for everyone, so be sure to do your own research, most fiberglass shower inserts are installed the same way, which means they can also be demoed. in the same way after removing all knobs and accessories.

I used a knife to remove the drywall about two to four inches above the shower, this exposes a flange usually used to screw or nail the shower insert to the studs behind it. Now that the drain was out and there was nothing holding the insert in, it was time to remove everything and to do that I used a six inch reciprocating saw blade to cut the insert into pieces. This will allow me to remove this insert in pieces, otherwise I wouldn't be able to fit it through the bathroom door when you're cutting. Through a shower insert like this, make sure not to cut any electrical or plumbing wires behind the wall.

At this point in the project, everything was removed from the bathroom except the floors, so I rented this demolition hammer from Home Depot. along with a chisel bit to be able to remove the porcelain tiles. Whoever installed the tiles in this house originally did a very good job because they were not easy to lift and once the tiles were removed I used the drill bit to scrape off any mortar that was still stuck to the popcorn concrete ceilings is very ugly, but fortunately they are very easy to remove. The first thing you should do is spray the ceiling to help control dust.

This also helps the texture come off a little easier. I recommend it. using a scraper like mine that you can attach a trash bag to helps make the cleaning process much faster. I couldn't be happier to report that the entire main demo is complete, it's time to put this place back together and the first thing I'm going to do is level these floors, if you notice that under where the bathtub goes, the floor It's not quite level, see how the foundation rises in the center, so I'm going to float a whole new floor across this bathroom.

To make installing the tile and tub much easier before laying new flooring, I put caulk around the perimeter of the room to help seal everything once it had time to set. I mixed up some self-leveling underlayment that you want to make sure of and mixed this together. to make it really liquid, that way it can flow to any place where there are low spots in the floor thanks to gravity, the mixture naturally flows to the low point of the floor, but it doesn't hurt to spread it out a little after floating the floor . I let it sit for about two days to cure, then I came back and cleaned all the pipes for the tub drain.

Installing a bathtub is really simple, but you need to make sure it's perfectly level before screwing it into the studs behind it. Often the rough frame is this rough and inconsistent, so be sure to have a pack of shims with you so you can have good contact everywhere you screw the tub to the studs behind it after installing the tub and the drain. I called a plumber. Roughing up shower plumbing is not something I have much experience with and this is something I wanted to make sure was done correctly after installing the valve, ran the pex pipe from the valve to the hot water and cold lines as well as a shower head on top and while we were at it, we went ahead and raised the shower head about a foot and a half from where it was previously after testing the fit of the shower walls. shower, I measured and marked the location of the tub valve and downspout so I could drill holes in the wall insert for the pipes to go through and anywhere I was drilling I made sure to use painter's tape to prevent the shower wall got scratched once the holes were drilled.

I was able to put that third wall in place and check the fit. Fortunately, it worked very well on the first try. After that, I grabbed my portable miter saw station so I could cut some four at a time as support pieces behind the shower wall. I have a create a video showing how to make this portable miter saw station, if you are interested in checking it out there will be a link in the description as well as a card in the corner of the screen, these four by four that I am setting up are the support behind the shower walls once again, I made sure to bring some shims so I could make nice level walls for reference.

The shower inserts are attached one by four with a polymer adhesive and there are several recommended in the installation guide provided by the manufacturer, just like with the tub, you want to make sure that each of these shower walls are actually plumb and level before screwing the flange to the 2x4 studs this way its edges are consistent throughout the shower, from the tub to the shower walls. This blue drywall is waterproof, which means that It is perfect for this application. I use the knife to cut paneling to replace the drywall I removed earlier. This is my first time doing drywall too and I must say it's not that difficult.

As you might think, don't be intimidated by this process, you're already clear. The only challenging part was trimming around the shower. If I had known this would have been a problem sooner, I would have made sure to make straighter cuts. the original drywall to make this process easier, regardless of whether once the drywall is in place you want to tape and mud the seams, use drywall compound to fill the gaps and smooth out the transition between the original drywall and the new pieces we placed. This helps hide the seams and creates a really nice flat wall.

It also makes the corners much cleaner. I learned on this project that it is better to apply several thin coats of compound rather than one or two very thick coats, it saves a lot that way. If you've been sanding for a long time and will make a lot less mess, you'll usually want to let this sit for about 24 hours or at least overnight, then you can go back and sand the seams and apply a second, third, or fourth coat as needed right now. I'm here at my local Home Depot to rent a tile saw. I bought some really awesome black tiles with a hexagonal pattern.

The only problem is that I need a tile saw with a sliding table so I can cut them cleanly. That's what's really wonderful about home. deposit and rental service. I can get a very high quality saw at a really low price. In fact, I'm only renting it for four hours and that should give me enough time to tile the shower and get it back. here in time, that's the amazing thing about this delta up style tub and shower surround is that you can customize it with literally any tile you want. I started by taking my 12 by 12 tile squares and cutting them to fit the shower insert instead of thin set mortar, I used the same polymer adhesive that I used to attach the shower walls to the four by four behind after applying the adhesive I used a trowel to spread it that way each of the tiles had a lot of contact with the shower wall and the adhesive I put them in place making sure not to press them too hard so they wouldn't sink too far into the adhesive, then used tile spacers to make sure all my gaps and gaps were consistent across the stretch, once I had a couple of these in place and got the hang of it, I was able to tile the rest of the shower very quickly.

I have links to the delta up style shower kit I used if you are interested in learning more. I really couldn't recommend it more. I was really impressed with the quality of the shower itself and the ability to customize it in any way possible is really amazing. This was the first time I applied grout to tile, so I'm sure it was messier. than what I needed, but it turned out very well. I used my grout trowel to apply that grout into the cracks between all the tiles. You don't want any gaps here after that. I used a sponge and water to clean most of it. of that grout, then a paper towel to wipe it all off, and lastly, to waterproof this shower and tub, I taped all the seams with the same polymer adhesive I used on the rest of the shower.

Look, it's so cool I had to remove the light. props to paint, so the first thing I did once it was dry was replace it so I could shoot with some light again. I replaced the vanity light along with the bathroom fan so everything matched and was clean and white. I installed 12 inch by 24 inch porcelain marble floors and just like before, this is my first time laying a floor as well, so I made sure and followed the manufacturer's instructions on each of the products each time I used them , I applied my mortar with a half inch by half inch trowel and I also did what is called buttering the slabs before installing them, this just means I installed a thin layer of thin mortar on the back of the slab before laying it on top of the mortar I took. some extra time to make sure this first tile was actually level because that's what the rest of the tiles will refer to from here on out.

I just went down the wall cutting pieces as I needed to use spacers to keep a consistent grout line. I also decided to stagger my grout line so it would have a nice clean look. The floor got a little dirty towards the end, but it turned out really nice. I made sure to get good spacers that could help keep a really consistent line. grout line on all my tiles before I could grout the tiles I needed to remove excess mortar between the tiles. I used these mortar remover attachments for my 18 volt ryobi multitool to clean the spaces between the tiles as I said it was a little messier than it should have been here while I was working I carried a vacuum with me so I could dust it off and see if there was some extra mortar that needed to be removed, then I took out my grout and my grout floated again and This time I put grout between the tiles, it wasn't as messy as in the shower and I was able to clean everything up very easily and now that the grout has had a couple of days to dry, this bath will really start to move.

Quickly the bathroom had some old dirty outlets and switches so I decided to remove them all and replace them with some

modern

square ones and just like I'm not a plumber I'm not an electrician so don't look to me for advice. In that department, this 1x4 molding I'm using for the bathroom fits the bill perfectly. It is made of PVC, which means it is waterproof. In some of my previous renovation videos you have seen me make 1x4 molding with mdf, installing this is the exact same method as you. I want to make sure it has a very tight seam between the molding and the wall for a clean, flush look.

I had to customize this piece of door trim to work around the baseboard, but other than that, it's the same as trimming any other door. Toilets are very easy to install once you get a new wax ring, all you have to do is place the toilet in place, make sure it is level and then assemble it according to the manufacturer's instructions. This Kohler bathroom vanity is really amazing because it is modular. The main vanity cabinet is assembled and installed just as you would expect once you put it in place, make sure it is centered on the wall where you want it and level with the floor, then grab a screw gun and a pack of shims and fix it. to the 2x4 studs behind the wall fromThere, you have the option to add additional cabinets to each side of the vanity for additional storage.

This way you can customize the dresser to fit your space and maximize storage. Now I know I said I'm not much. plumber, but I'm definitely confident enough to install a faucet. This model is from the Delta pivotal series. Just like the shower kit that you will see later, both will be linked in the description. I really love how they look. The shower arm that comes with the pivoting shower kit is very long allowing it to act as a rainfall shower head even though it is a traditional shower head and once I installed it the bathroom was ready before showing them how this bath ended up.

I seem to want to remind you how dirty and dated everything was, the lighting was bad, the fixtures were dated and everything was falling apart, but now we have a modern, clean and fresh bathroom that will be stylish for years to come not only will it be 10 times more functional but will look and feel much better when you are there. I know some people criticize using a lot of white finishes, saying it's too sterile, but if you ask me, there's nowhere else I'd like to feel more sterile than a bathroom, right?
