Jun 09, 2021
So that's my dad with a little smile on his face and that's all for good reason because he just saw his

closet

, but for the first time in a whole new light. Now, if he could go back in time a little bit, in September I went. I went to his house and took some measurements of the

closet

, but now might be enough time for them to probably forget what was going on. Well, that leaves my stepmother. What she wanted to achieve was something she couldn't do. I had no way. to get them both out of the house without them knowing, so what I had to do was work with my dad and let him know what was going on and all he knew was that I was going to go there to do some work in the closet, but I had no idea. how was it going to be so in a perfect world I would have loved to get there around 6:00am. m. in the morning and get started, but we had to treat today like a normal day, so I packed up the night before and was on my way until the next morning and one thing I wanted to mention is that I only had two days to do all this work.

This is probably one of the few times you've seen me outside of my environment. Now I am at my father's house and today I am going to start the installation, this is the space I have to work with and I need to organize this and I couldn't let anyone else do it because I didn't want to give any signal, now in my opinion there's a lot. of unnecessary things here that don't even belong in a clothes closet, but who am I to judge? The first thing I had to do was start removing obstacles from my path and the first thing was this door at the beginning.

I was trying to avoid messing with the hinges, but I finally removed them to avoid accidental injuries and since I'm taped in a process, I need to get rid of this old light so I can have as much light as possible in this room. So now I have light and it's time to start this party. After about four or five minutes, I finally cleaned the entire closet and almost left it blank. The next thing I had to do was tear out the shelves and repair the wall. And I can't tell you that this closet has seen better days now that my dad isn't the most skilled guy, so I don't know if he hired someone or if he did it himself, so the fucked up part, I think he did it himself, but I.

I'm not sure who put this on the wall because there are nails literally going through these two by fours right into the stud and I know my dad doesn't have a stud finder, part of me wanted to just rip these shelves down and up . camera, it probably would have looked cool and a little dramatic but I also had a timeline I needed to respect so I had to do this carefully, the next thing I did was pour the air conditioning vent, I gave it a quick coat of white paint later and I also cleaned the ceiling and once I was cleaning it it wasn't as bad as I thought so I bought myself some time so I didn't have to repaint the ceiling, now I actually brought in the floor as a backup.

I was planning to do that. Lastly, if I had the time, but after looking at this floor there was no way to leave it here so I had to break it out and if I was removing a baseboard, this would have been a good time to remove the baseboard. I actually started two hours later than I had anticipated so I had to save time wherever I could and that's why the baseboard was left intact and it's also a closet. Now the next thing I had to do is remove all the carpet. The technicians surrounded the perimeter after patching all the holes in the wall, it was in the paint at this time.
I really love the progress I was making and everything was starting to fall into place, so while I'm painting some molding, I'm like, oh, let it go, go back to the days. and then I looked up and thought about what happened here, so this clock that I gave my dad a while ago, which was one of my previous projects, not only did he hang it on its side but he also wrote numbers on it with a marker. I mean the numbers aren't even right good job so when I paint I like to use a matte paint on the wall and for the president the baseboard I like to use a high gloss paint and at this point I realized I had brought the wrong paint from my house, I took a flat paint and I wasn't happy with that because that meant I was going to have to repaint the baseboard next.
I'll shift my attention to laying the underlayment for the floor you definitely want to use. Not only is this almost like a little foam pad, but it also blocks moisture transfer from the concrete to your floors. If you have never laminated before, I will cover this in more detail in a future video and the concept behind this is there is no glue or any type of adhesive involved, the floor is literally floating on top of this, the circular saw jig was a lifesaver and If you haven't seen that video, go ahead and check it out as this is a

small

space.
I'm going to go ahead and measure all the pieces, cut them to size and precut them before it gets too dark outside and once the floor was complete I was on the quarter round, this should hide a gap between the floors and the baseboard if Had I felt there was enough time, I would have removed the baseboard and installed a floor, but most likely I would have replaced the baseboard with a 6-8 inch baseboard. I am also using a nailer that uses a very

small

hole inside the quarter round and this will make it easier to paint over if you use, for example, an 18 gauge nail, those will leave a larger hole in the quarter round, but then you can use putty or caulking to fill them and at this point the floor is finished, it's late at night and I got some sleep.
I got up at 5:00 and now I'm at it again and courtesy of the modular closet, they helped me with the design of this space and with these. modular you can just design your closet however you want now they are very well packaged and what I like the most is that they are plywood and they are pretty simple to install and set up now I used my drill which I then switched to my screwdriver because I realized that with the drill I couldn't get it down to a low enough setting. This drill is too powerful so I used a screwdriver for most of this assembly and this.
It's pretty much the only tool you need. You can also download PDF instructions ahead of time so you know what you need for installation. This really helped me a lot so I knew what tool to bring at least for this part of the installation. Now each modular cabinet is held together with pegs and cam locks. If you've ever assembled anything, chances are you've seen them before in the past. I have tried it both different ways by putting on the cam nut and then the cam bolt. first and for me either one works but I always like to go with the one where you just put all the cam nuts in the holes and then make sure the screw on them is oriented in the direction of the cam screw and once you have everything lined up go ahead and tighten the screws there was a lot to put together from the towers to the drawers and I stayed focused on that until I finished everything.
I could have installed fewer closet rods, but I wanted to make sure I had done everything possible sooner. I can move on to the next task, the next house took a little longer than I expected. I used masking tape to wrap around the entire room, which I then used my tape measure and also a level to mark a line that goes around 82 inches high, which is where I placed the top of each modular system. Now I had the perfect tool for this job, my laser measure, and that was one of the tools I forgot. I then brought all the pieces into one room so I could get a visual of what this would look like once they're on the wall.
This way I can visualize everything and then think about how I want to approach it. I was able to use the workbench and some extra pieces to get the tower up. on top and once I line everything up and confirm it's level, I can go ahead and screw it in. In an ideal world, you want to mount them on two studs, but of course there are times when things just aren't ideal and This was the only one of the larger towers that didn't have two studs lined up, so I made up for it by anchoring them all. the cabinets on the back wall as a single unit and I was very glad I brought my clamps for this.
It actually helped and at this point all the towers are installed and I moved on to installing the drawer slides and look who just showed up and is ready to explore. One cool thing about these drawers is that the drawer box itself is pre-drilled for a hole and to attach the pulls, simply decide which option you want, use the pre-drilled holes, and then add the hardware. Unfortunately, one of the handles was missing from the shipment. I contacted them and they actually got me one in about three days. I bought four of them, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the rest, but I'll pass them on and then replace the lamp with something that I felt blended in a little more with the space as time went on. down, I had to start it and stop the transition piece, what did a laminate floor mean for carpet?
At this point my dad and I have been texting on the floor and I'm telling him I'm close, I'm close and I wasn't sure if I was on my way so at this point the cause is already set and now I'm just I'm putting the finishing touches on the baseboard and I managed to finish everything except the frame around the door jamb so that meant I was running out of time and I managed to do everything except paint the door frame and I really didn't want to paint that in that time because it was really late and I didn't want anyone to come lean on it and paint them so I was happy with where I finished that but obviously I didn't go to the point and I really wanted to do it and right at that moment I got a text from my dad and they were about five minutes away so I had to relocate my vehicle to make everything seem normal so while I wait in one of the guest rooms I finally hear them enter the house and I can hear my dad , he is ahead, walking down the hallway, walking back and forth. gets there and I was kinda impatient to get in there and see what was going on first before I can show it look at it come here merry Christmas I'm not sure what that is I don't know if this Wow or is it is where the hell my stuff is your guess is so good like mine but jumping well I'll tell you why but I would like why Jesus Wow nice shoes just listening you know what I owe you why but obviously if you walk into your house and see a dramatic change like that, maybe you don't know how to react, but I really hope they like the change and I hope this is a starting point for them and I let them know that they do love me.
To come back here and do any other work in any space in this house, you have to completely declutter and get rid of a lot of the stuff you're not using, and if you're still there with me, here's the revelation. From the closet I will give you the price and it breaks down at the end of the video, so stay tuned. Now it's fair to say I couldn't have put this together without the help of the modular wardrobe so check out their link in the description and see how their solution can help you and I hope I haven't forgotten anything but here's the cost breakdown of this fourteen hundred project dollars for the towers four to five dollars for the subfloor twenty-two dollars on the floor twenty-two dollars on the transition piece, another twenty dollars for the quarter for the mold and another $60 for the pendant light, finally sixty-five dollars for the paint and that should bring the grand total to around sixteen hundred and thirty-four dollars.
Thanks for tuning in and I hope you enjoyed it. video, be sure to comment below, let me know what you think and also, if you're new here, consider subscribing. I love having you, that's all for this, guys. I'm Glen and I'll see you next time.
