What is your definition of God? OPRAH WINFREY (VOICEOVER): "Super Soul Sunday" will be back soon. OPRAH WINFREY: What's the difference between I'm going to accept and I'm not going to resist? CAROLINE MYSS: And doing nothing? And without doing anything? A person has to try. A person has to put his energy into his own life and his own effort. You have to do that. OPRAH WINFREY: Yes. We have an intuitive voice in us. We are born intuitive. We're so intuitive that, actually, for most people it's the source of their greatest suffering, right? That inner guidance tells us... OPRAH WINFREY: I'm just going to leave you... I don't even know what you mean by that. How is your

intuition

, your intuition, the cause of your greatest suffering? I think it would be quite the opposite.

Oh no. No, it's not, Oprah. In reality, it is the source of people's greatest suffering. OPRAH WINFREY: Why? CAROLINE MYSS: Because people listen when they've betrayed themselves. People are very aware when they are not honest with themselves. People... it's that voice that says, you shouldn't have said that. You know that's not right. OPRAH WINFREY: Or you're still with this person and you know you should have left them years ago. Yes. CAROLINE MYSS: This is the voice of your conscience. It is the voice of your conscience. It is the voice of your instincts. It's the voice... It's the voice that you don't want to hear and that never goes away.

OK. CAROLINE MYSS: And when you follow this voice and you push, this is the part that says you should push and you should do this. So it is the part that keeps us moving and turning the wheel of our life. It's also the part that says you've done everything you can now. That's all. You have done everything you can. Then it is the part that will tell how far you can go. He will guide you. He will say this is it. So what you are saying is exactly what I have always believed and how I have operated it.

Being able to accept lives within the range of doing everything you can do. And when you've done everything you can do, you hand it over. CAROLINE MYSS: That's it. Let go. CAROLINE MYSS: That's right. To the

power

and energy that is greater than yourself. CAROLINE MYSS: That's it. OPRAH WINFREY: That's what you do. That's how it is. You have to give it your all. OPRAH WINFREY: Give it your all. Give it your all, give your best. And this inner voice... OPRAH WINFREY: And then not being attached to the outcome. CAROLINE MYSS: Totally, you got it. OPRAH WINFREY: That's it.
Did you always know these things? Were you intuitively in tune with knowing these things? I was born... I was very intuitive throughout my life. Yes. OPRAH WINFREY: Yes, your mother saw it in you. CAROLINE MYSS: Yes. Yes, yes. When I entered the world of medical intuition and that whole life began, then my inner world developed very quickly, very clearly along a certain line. And it has been like that ever since. OPRAH WINFREY: Okay, let's get to the big questions. I mean, you already answered all the big questions. Those were the big questions. Give me the big question.
Well, what is your definition of God? Hey! Law. For me, God is law. OPRAH WINFREY: I've never heard that before. Completely. God for me is mystical law because law is the nature of the universe. It's... OPRAH WINFREY: The order of things. CAROLINE MYSS: The order. It's universal. Is consistent. It is the nature of life. And the negotiating principle with the mystical laws is prayer. That's what makes them intimate. The miracle is when God bends these laws for you in an intimate way. And that is a miracle. Well, I've never heard that before. I am not sentimental about God.
I don't personalize God with emotion, like love and... I don't go there. OPRAH WINFREY: And God is not he or she or... No, he is a complete legal transcendent cosmic force. OPRAH WINFREY: Strength. Do you ever personalize and make intimate? Does God ever get intimate with you? CAROLINE MYSS: You know, it's strange. Totally intimate and totally cosmic, both at the same time. Wow, that's a good God. Yes, he is not bad. I would market it. OPRAH WINFREY (VOICE OVER): Coming soon: Do you have good and bad days like normal people, too? Come on. I grab my calendar, bad day, good day, bad day...
OPRAH WINFREY (VOICE OVER): And then we found a little breathing room in the tall, billowing grass of a Kansas prairie. "Super Soul Sunday" will be back soon. OPRAH WINFREY: Have you always considered yourself spiritual? Or was there a moment, an aha, an epiphany, an eye-opening experience? No no. I've always... I've been very lucky. I was so ridiculously lucky... no, I was blessed. OPRAH WINFREY: Blessed. I will eliminate the word luck. No luck, I was blessed. Totally blessed. Yeah, I never had that. OPRAH WINFREY: For as long as you can remember, you were always connected to... Well, I grew up in a house where my parents always literally prayed at night with us.
I had a little picture of an angel above my bed, and then I was raised... OPRAH WINFREY: You were raised Catholic. CAROLINE MYSS: Raised Catholic. OPRAH WINFREY: Are you still a practicing Catholic? Did you know? Do you know what Oscar Wilde said? OPRAH WINFREY: No. I'm not going... I'm not going to that place because they have all those gargoyles and all those other things. I do not live as a Catholic, but I am going to die as one. And that's what's true. That's what's true. What do you think happens when we die? Well, I think our bodies obviously die.
All my life... I observe the law. All life dies. All physical life dies. I don't think... OPRAH WINFREY: And it transforms into another form of energy. But I don't think we are afraid of death. In fact, I believe that one of the functions of

grace

is that we are not afraid of death. When does it really show? Yes, I think what we fear is how we are going to die. We are not afraid of death. Because if you... we have never been afraid of death. We are terrified of dying, the process. Who is not? I don't mind disintegrating and going through some kind of horrible death.
You neither. Neither do your family members. We don't want to say goodbye. We want to look ourselves in the face and say: farewell. I'll see you on the other side. Right CAROLINE MYSS: We don't mean that. That's heartbreaking. But we are not afraid of being dead because it is not possible. I guarantee you that. I promise you. I promise you. Yeah, I wouldn't have said that either and blades of grass. We complain, we complain. But it may be the most exciting thing that has ever happened, actually, on the other side. Okay, finish this sentence. CAROLINE MYSS: Very good.
I believe in God. Love is... Beautiful, healing, perfect. OPRAH WINFREY: The person I want to be proud of the most is... I think my mom. She has been my best companion and I love her very much. I'm willing to forgive... That would be myself for some not-so-good decisions I've made in this life. And are you ready to forgive? CAROLINE MYSS: I'm working on it. I'll get there. OPRAH WINFREY: Yes. As a spiritual leader and teacher, you would think that you are never in trouble, that you are always flowing, and that you are connected to the law.
Do you have good days and bad days too, like normal people? Oh, come on. OPRAH WINFREY: Oh, come on? Come on. I take my calendar: bad day, good day, bad day, good day. Absolutely, are you kidding me? Is there something you are still struggling with? Or are you able to operate in that flow of

grace

most of the time? I return to the center much more easily. I absolutely do. I take responsibility, totally responsible. If I make a mistake, I won't get even... I'm not saying it's someone else's fault. I hold... my own feet to the fire.
I absolutely do. I'm very good at that. You know it? And I'm very good at recognizing that I've become a very good person. You know, now I consider myself a fine wine. I have reached that point in my life where I feel it is time to treat myself better. OPRAH WINFREY: So you're really going to practice what you teach... Totally. And give more back to yourself in the next decade? Am. Yes, that's great. You understood it. Yes, and I will learn my lesson from you. So I follow your instructions. CAROLINE MYSS: Very good. OPRAH WINFREY: Well, show me the way.
Alright. OPRAH WINFREY: Very good. Promise. You understood it. That was great. OPRAH WINFREY (VOICE OVER): In this week's respite, we watch the sun rise over the Kansas prairie, a reserved patch of untouched Earth, growing wild in its natural state. The bison roam free, grazing in endless fields of native grass. This has been the case for hundreds of years. Here the horizon is everything. Watching storms loom in the distance gives us a new perspective. As you watch the tall grass blowing here in the wind, consider your own natural state, your intuitive self, and trust that you are on the right path.
