I've divided the video into three sections, each covering the three different types of button presses you need to know with the

davinci

resolution

speed

editor, but also make sure you stay until the end, because I have a fantastic little bonus tip that you may not know about a way to use the split key. First, let's go over this list of 10 double-tap modifying features that we introduced today in

davinci

resolve

17.1. some images of spray paint, but first I want to point out in the speed editor, if there is text down in front of the key, not just at the top, you will know that there is a secondary modify function, so we will look at the double tap ones first .

I'm going to start with smart insert, so if I go and open my feed here in the timeline we can see that I have a clip that has an in point and an out point marked and what is the smart insert clip if you look in front. What the clip says is that the clip will ignore its in and out point when you place it on your timeline, so it will still do a smart insert that will place this clip on my timeline at that smart pointer location. but if I tap it twice it discards the entire clip, not just the marked region, so it's a way to ignore the in and out points of the source if I go back to the source again and want to grab another clip and say: "Let's say yes." I had this section marked in and out right there in that clip and I wanted to add edit, which means it goes all the way to the end of my timeline.

Normally, you would just hit this once to get that in and out point there, but if you wanted full clip, you tap it twice and it shows you the full clip on the timeline, so it's a way of saying, "Hey, I want to see all the clips, all the material in one clip at once." You can do it with the clip function, which is a double tap with smart insert and add now the next one here actually deals with your in and out point marks and it's clearing your in and out points on these white keys here , so if I go back to my source and I want to delete this point that had been marked, let's say it was marked right there, if I tap it twice, it's deleted and you can see it's pretty simple, same thing if we go here to delete the out point, you duplicate tap it and it's as easy as that we have erased all the in and out marks on that source tape the next double tap function here will be the default duration transition button which is kind of a mouthful basically once that you set your transition here with this button, hold it down, you can lock it, like let's say I want it to be right on a second and you're still on it, if you double tap it, it locks into system memory. so

every

time I put in a dissolve after that it's exactly one second or it's whatever you tapped that transition twice at that point, so if I tap that down there we know that now it pops out in exactly one second and we can check it.

If we hold this down and start moving it, it was actually right in one second. If you've used computers for more than a couple of minutes, you probably know the z command, which is undo and in the speed editor it's right under the Escape button. double tap escape and then, for example, let's say we have a dissolve down here and a dissolve right here and we didn't really want that to happen, we double tap escape and we double tap escape and it undoes those last two actions now that we We move around the keyboard, the next double tap function will be to mark if we find a place we like on the timeline and we need to place a marker for a note or something, we tap it twice and it drops a marker, what a lot of people it doesn't know that if you double-tap it again once it's there, this contextual marker box appears so you can take more notes right there without having to exit the velocity editor, which is very useful on the next double-tap.
The feature you need to know is review, it's right below the full view button, the red one here, double tap it and this takes us to the beginning of the top down sequence and zooms in to full screen so you can see.

every

thing in all its glory, if you need to see the UI again, just tap escape, okay, it's right there and you can see where you are, so it's a super useful review, it's like the home button, but Full screen, the last double tap

modifier

I have to show you here is under live overwrite. It's called random.
If you double-tap it and have the sync tray open, it will randomly drop any other clips in there. It starts after five seconds. to fill out your timeline, so if we had like seven or eight angles, I'd pick one of them at random as the editor. I take it as an insult. I actually want to choose my angles, but it's there anyway, so I have to show it. Now that we've mastered all the double-tap features, we can move on to the double-tap and hold features, which are really fun because they're the ones we can use the seek dial in the speed editor, which is really what everything does. this is a little special, but first, if you're new here on this channel, thank you so much for clicking and welcome, I'm Chadwick, these are creative video tips that aim to help you create videos that make a difference and stand out. that's something you're interested in and haven't done it yet, so hit subscribe right below right now so you don't miss the new tip next week.
Now let's get back to it and we'll learn all four. Double tap and hold features and use that search dial, so the first double tap and hold feature I want to show you is swipe, it's right below the crop scroll button, if you double tap it real quick , it will select it and then you can move it on the timeline and adjust the in and out points of the incoming and outgoing clip at the same time. If you need to know more about how to trim, I have a video that will be linked right now that is all about how to trim.
With the speed editor, the next double tap and hold modifier is actually tick, tick is something special. This is the third time we've used flag as a modifier. If you double tap on the marker, this Ferris wheel appears, kind of a color wheel that we can choose   any color from here and if we choose that, that becomes the new default marker color, so if I double tap after of that, that's the new default and again, if I want to change the color, it's a double tap and hold, I use the search dial and you want to make it green, it will be green from then on   the next double tap that you want to check is below the transition button, there is a Title button, if you hold double tap, you can use the search dial to scroll through all your familiar fonts expensive fonts and get a different look very quickly and preview everything as quickly as possible and the last double top, press and hold one that you are going to use a lot, it is below, adjustment, it is these three horizontal lines, double tap, hold, use the search dial and You can zoom in and out on your viewer and if you didn't know in the interface here, it's basically creating this button here, you can click and drag it with the mouse, but obviously if you have the speed editor, it's much faster to do this and so you can make more room for your tracks or just make your viewfinder much bigger, the last little modifier you can add to your muscle memory is to tap and hold and actually, you already know this if you've been using the cropping tools. just press that button and move the scroll wheel, seek dial at the same time and the only two modifiers that use this are move and the foreground button to adjust the position and of a clip for that one of the taps and hold the functions here is move, it's one of my favorite buttons in the speed editor, just hold it, hold split, move as a secondary function and we see that we have little left and right arrows, so if we take the seek dial to the left we're going to move the entire clip in and out to the left, move it to the right, we're going to move it to the right and this will allow us to modify and figure out what the exact best order is so we can tell our story , so maybe we want that shot to be the end of the sequence, here's how to do it with moving the tap and hold end modifier that I want to show you is the y position for the foreground, so what foreground? does it first, if you just tap closeup and you have a clip down on the timeline, it will come in and basically do a closeup of the shot below and start that up as well, but what if the position you choose it's not perfect, that's where you would tap and hold this and then it will allow you to change the position and up and down of that clip now that you've mastered all the modifiers here in the speed editor.
There is a small advantage. tip I recently learned about the split button and double tap I have to share if you've seen my video on transitions why cut doesn't cut you know that split actually cuts a clip, but there's one thing that a lot of people don't actually do. What I don't know is that if you stand right on top of a cut and press split, it puts them back together, so I don't know if you saw that, if I have this cut and it's basically a complete edit, so the edits are the same a the left and right of the timeline and I press split again, it brings them back together.
I found it very useful because then when I go to the color page in other areas, I need to send it, there are less cuts that are in the timeline that are unnecessary. If you found this video useful or useful, please tap the like button, which is the thumbs up button, but don't double tap it or it won't count, and if you want to learn more about how to use the speed editor or davinci

resolve

in Overall, I have the perfect playlist for you popping up right now and since there's so much more to learn, I'll see you in the next video.
