Resolve Speed Editor VS Editor Keyboard. Which is better?

Mar 07, 2024
A few weeks ago I made a video talking about my initial experience using the resolution

speed

editor

that Blackmagic Design sent me to try out, but what I didn't mention in that video was that they also sent me its big brother,

which

is the Editor Keyboard complete and since I bought them I have been switching between the two and trying to figure out how each of them fits into my workflow and at this point I have been using them for a couple of months and I have some thoughts that I wanted to share because I feel that They might be useful for those of you thinking about picking up one of these, so just to clarify because I already made a whole video dedicated to the

speed

editor

.

I may go and check it out first because almost all of my thoughts on it since then are exactly the same. I've been using it and getting a lot more used to how it works. In this one I wanted to focus more on the complete look. editor

keyboard

, so this will be partly a comparison between the two, but also partly an editor

keyboard

review and we're also going to talk about what type of user either of these might be suitable for, so let's get things started What are they. similar between the two and I think the most obvious by far will be the wheel and the buttons right above it that change the way it works, other than they both have these specific edit buttons that are tied to some of the resolution functions . what you might need access to is essentially almost like you took the speed editor and then you divided it in half and you took each half and put it on the sides of a larger normal keyboard and one more thing that I think is important.

More Interesting Facts About,

resolve speed editor vs editor keyboard which is better...

It's worth mentioning that both come with a Da Vinci Resolve Studio key in the box, giving you extra value for money, and while there are things that clearly look visually the same, there are many more that are different between the two, such as for begin. the size and weight of them and I think it's pretty obvious, but the editor keyboard will be much larger and heavier than the speed editor, and a lot of that is due to the fact that it just feels sturdier and like don't Don't get me wrong, the speed editor doesn't feel poorly built by any means, but the large keyboard is much denser, like if I needed to use one of these for self defense, I would have absolutely no problem using the large keyboard. and it kind of solves my problem, you know, but joking aside, they are both very well built, the big one is obviously heavier.

Aside from that, another thing that could be a deal breaker for a lot of people is that the speed editor is designed to be used in combination with another keyboard and on the other hand, the big one is already its own standalone keyboard. You can use it for pretty much anything else when you're not editing, like a normal keyboard, and I've even tried using it for gaming. and it kind of works even though some of the keys are arranged a little weirdly. I will not lie. I'm not going to change my usual keyboard that I use to play with this one, but I like it.

If you spend some time getting used to it, I'm sure it could work, but the option of being able to use it outside of the output might be something a lot of people prefer over having a separate keyboard and velocity editor next. is that although the wheels look the same, they feel different, the one on the big keyboard has a little more resistance and not only does it like to spin as freely as the one on the small panel, it also has the speed editor. This feature where many buttons have different functions depending on whether you click them once or twice and that's a great way to get the most out of a small number of keys.
The large keyboard obviously has many more buttons linked to it. to different functions, but it does not have the same multi-click functionality, the speed editor can be used both with a wired connection and via Bluetooth, but the big keyboard must always be connected, but the good thing is that the big keyboard It has a few USB ports on the back so you can connect other accessories if necessary and finally the editor keyboard will be more expensive than the speed editor, but I think that's pretty obvious. All things considered now, like I said, if you want to know my experience using the speed editor and my workflow with it, you can watch the full video after this, but when it comes to using the editor keyboard, the Things were a little weird for me.
I say this because Use it the way it is meant to be used. I had to go back to using the default resolution shortcuts and from some of my other videos you may know that I'm someone who really likes setting up my own keybinds, but I thought: you know what I want to give it a fair chance, so I'm going to do it and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I realized that if you are someone like me who spent a lot of time setting up your own shortcuts and want to use the big keyboard.
You pretty much have two options: you can go back to the default resolution shortcuts or you can still use your own, but at this point you're using mismatched functions. the labels on the keys also when switching from using the velocity editor with my keyboard to the big keyboard I was constantly trying to double click some of the edit specific keys because they would usually have a second function bound to them only to realize it was no longer is the case and that may be a little confusing, but it also made me realize something that was a little surprising.
When I got both, I automatically assumed that the large keyboard would be for those people who have a little more resolution experience because it has a lot more function keys and looks more complicated. The thing is, the more I use it, the more I realize that's not the case and I'll try to explain why I think that in a bit, but I also wanted to try something to see if it confirmed what I already thought about the editor. speed and the editor keyboard, so I went ahead and gave them to a couple of other editor friends of mine to just give away. try them out and see what you think about them, some of the people I contacted were a little newer to working with resolution and others had a few years of experience and after a few weeks I got some feedback they were really interesting and a lot of them were in In line with what I had already been thinking since I started actively trying to use both keyboards, for example, something I heard from people who had much more experience in The solution was that they found it much easier to include the speed editor in their workflow. work than the editor keyboard and the reason was exactly the same thing I mentioned about the fact that if you want to use the big keyboard properly you have to go back to using the default shortcuts or you can just keep using the custom ones with what essentially they are now incorrectly labeled.
Many of those editors with more hours of resolution had already spent a lot of time setting everything up to work exactly how they needed it. and then even more time to get used to how things were, on the other hand, some of the people who recently switched to using

resolve

said they had virtually no problems using the big keyboard because the default shortcuts were what they were. using anyway something else that I thought was very interesting was that some of the long term resolution editors said they would be very interested in a version of the editor keyboard that didn't have all the labels on the buttons on the normal keyboard, so yeah it was basically exactly the same with the dial and the specific edit keys on the sides, but then all the buttons in the middle were like a normal standard keyboard layout and honestly that doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.
I think that's something a lot of determined editors who are considering the big keyboard would be interested in, so finally, who are any of these keyboard panels or whatever you want to call them for now, when we get the obvious things out of the way like the price? and the space that each of them will occupy in its configuration. I think there is one main thing you should consider before choosing one of these and that will be what your current workflow will look like. a lot of hours setting up your own keyboard shortcuts that you're already used to or are you one of the people who just chooses to stick with the default ones if you're not already using the default keybinds and don't agree with the idea of going back to Switching to them and then maybe grabbing the big keyboard doesn't make much sense to you, but on the other hand, if you're new to figuring it out, maybe the fact that you have everything laid out in front of you might be something to help you get used to the faster software and this ties into what I said earlier in the video, when I was first watching them I thought the editor keyboard is the one designed for more experienced resolution users and the speed editor would be more intended to beginners because it seems smaller and more unpretentious, but after using them for a while now I personally think it's completely the opposite, in my opinion the speed editor is the perfect tool for someone who has almost all other things customized exactly just the way they like it and I think the editor keyboard is

better

for newer users who would benefit from being able to see all the key function labels. in front of them and at the same time have access to the wheel and the dedicated editing keys that are on either side of the keyboard,

which

are incredibly useful regardless of which one you choose and, to be clear, I am in no way saying that one of They are overwhelmingly

better

than the other, it will just be a matter of which of these two meets your needs better, that's how I see it, but there is nothing stopping you from choosing either of these, learning how it works and using it to speed up your flow of money. work so I hope this video was helpful for those of you still trying to decide between speed editor and editor keyboard, at the end of the day it's going to be a very subjective thing but at least I hope some of the things I mentioned They were able to point you in the right direction and I'm really interested.
If you have any of these, why did you choose the one that outperformed the other? Don't hesitate to leave a comment because I think it could be of great help to others who are still trying to choose because it is obvious that my experience and my point of view will not match with others as always if you made it to the end. I really appreciate it, thanks for watching. and see you next time
