Dec 02, 2021
hey guys welcome back to another video if you are new here my name is leanne and i love sharing cheap diy with you now i know everyone is in a different place right now as far as what kinds of things some people are looking for are like bringing fall others are like i'm done with fall i'm already

decor

ated for fall i don't need to do anything else some people want to see some

decor

ation every day and some people are ready to go in for christmas so come on i know where you are this is it what diys are you looking for not necessarily what are you decorating with im going to bring you some christmas diys here soon doesnt mean its time to post though if you dont judge here i love christmas decor but you have to start early if your going to do some diy and some people sell stuff anyway we're going to do a little bit of mixing everything today ok no i'm not really going to do anything fall but i'm going to do some of re versatile

houses

and I'm going to show you different ways to decorate them ways that can be done every day or for some holidays I'm going to be doing some every day in conjunction with Christmas but you could certainly do some fall things in there however you want i want to do it anyway i've blabbered enough let's get into crafts to start with i have these little

dollar

tree

houses

i'm going to use two of them and they're in the home decor aisle i've seen them in the past and recently picked these up so they weren't one and i did which i'm glad i hope they continue to bring it back anyway i'm going to remove the trims and they come off pretty easily. some hot glue I'm scraping it off and then I'm going to sand it all down to smooth it out it's not

wood

it's like thick mdf board but it cleans up pretty easily so for the first one I'm going to just paint all the edges with black paint I'm using waverly chalk paint color ink obviously you can do this any way you want.

I just wanted to give you a few different ideas for ways to style them once my paint is dry. We're going to cover the side that had the frills just because I'm doing it. because I know that nothing will be seen through this paper. This is a paper I have as a hobby lobby. We're going to cut and paste it. I'm going to choose to use a gorilla glue stick. You could use other things. Now, this paper is quite thick. you want it to work well for you you could even use a hot glue gun along the edges to smooth that out and now i have some music i choose to use the song in a manger don't totally freak me out tearing out these pages this is a old hymnal its not like vintage but i Its older and i have it in my stash for the purpose of creating with it so i know some people may have a problem with that you can also print like find a free printable at um, you know on the internet you can print but i just pressed the edges so i knew exactly where i wanted to put it because gorilla glue stick is pretty sticky and its hard to move once you put things down especially with something thin like this music paper, so i let it dry and then i'm just using a sanding block to trim all the edges to clean up all the edges and i try to do this on the other side as well but like I said, cardstock is pretty thick, so it didn't.

It doesn't work very well, but it did ultimately, but my sanding block wasn't rough enough, so I grabbed another sandpaper and wrapped it around it. i want to do i also think it messed up the edges a little bit like the black edges i painted just to make sure it wasn't a little bit perfect and then we're going to give it all to both sides and the edges of the um so that both sides of the paper and the paint edges a good coat of mod podge i like mod podge almost everything because i feel like it seals it now i didn't show you um wrapping this with yarn and i'm attaching a bow um that's i'll show you how i do that next door i filmed this part out of order and i didn't realize it until after anyway then on the side with a manger i'm just pulling out these little

i haven't seen them yet this year though i guess they're coming back but i had them in my stash from the past and i put on a gold star and then i decided to put a little layer of mod podge just to keep the glitter from going everywhere so i moved on to the next one i'm painting the edges of this one with whi the p waverly chalk intura still only had to do one coat but i was trying not to cover all the sides because i wasn't sure where i was going with these so i tried to keep it nice and tidy i painted one side with the white then decided to coat it , but I'm so glad I painted it just to make sure nothing happened this is more scrapbooking paper I have on hand it's not as thick as the latest cardstock you buy these by the sheet in the hobby lobby track and glue that on and then I'm going to paint the edge or tape the edge with my painters tape because we're going to paint the back like I said At first I wasn't totally sure where I was going with all these so I'm going to hit this coat waverly ink paint one more time so this side has a nice solid black once that's it. dry paint and paper.

You want the paper glue to be dry before using this sanding technique. I'm standing outside the edges. because obviously I didn't trim it exactly so there was a little bit more to it and then I also went in and sanded down the edges so they don't look super perfect and highlight any little black paint that had seeped through so to speak and then I'm going to go over all the thing with mod podge one more time um there was a little paper that wasn't quite glued down so i put a little bit of mod podge under that as well we're going to get this all sealed and then to embellish this here's what i did with the Last one too, I just didn't show you that I'm just using twine, I just cut it with a wire cutter because that's what I had closest to me and I'm burning it to get the lint off that you see here.

I shoot sort of trips when it's all grouped together. No one was harmed doing this, but it helps if you stretch it out and don't like burning it as it is. all curled up because that's when the fire will travel um anyway i'm going to wrap that a few times i'm not keeping it super even but i'm just covering a little space in the house but you can do this however you want or not at all and a Once I have it wrapped, I'm just going to tie it on one side and the other. On this one, we're going to make little ties out of twine and we're going to hot glue them on both sides.
I just put them in far enough and make sure the tails don't stick out over the edge so that when you're looking. from one side you can't see the ornament on the other side so i hope it makes sense if you realize in the pit and in the last one i just did the loop on one side and then made a star on the other i'm sure not You noticed because I showed it to you and talked to you about it and then I'm here, but in this one I'm putting the loop on both sides so I just want to make sure you can't see it from either side. from the opposite side sorry i got my tongue tied now this was just a piece of rough wood it was small in your um crafter square area in the dollar tree i was excited to find them picked up a couple of them now the wedges are definitely rough on these so give them a good position and then I'm going to go in with the old wax now the edges you know you paint on the old wax and then you clean them up and sorry this is all not on the frame I had some issues when I was doing this, um, and I was doing the painting part on each one of these, um, it wasn't all totally on the frame, but on the edges when you clean it up. it definitely stayed pretty thick but the front end gave the look as i expected but i was ok with the way it came out at the edges and i think its just because they were so raw and rough it just soaked up its different so come on going to wax all this weathered up and then we're going to go ahead and embellish this one and then i have an extra one more at the end that's not a wooden one but it's still a home decor so i have these white stickers that i think were hobby lobby on sale and then i showed you a little stencil i had from um dollar tree you could just use stencils if you don't have stickers but i just show you what i'm using and try to give you a variety of ideas so i'm going to spell out and I'm not pushing the stickers all the way in because I wasn't sure if I was going to have to move them and I did and luckily they moved quite well on this old wax so that wasn't a pro problem.
I'm taking the heart out of this stencil and using it for the O so right now I'm deciding on the placement and then we're going to do the stencil with some wavy white chalk paint. The key is not to have too much paint on your little brush to make sure there's no bleed through and it came out pretty good I just had to move the letters around a bit once I did that and that's what I did then I have the stencil as well dollar tree and I don't want to use the writing in the middle I just want to use the crown so we're etching that and the n we're going to place that and once again we'll use some white paint to make a stencil on the little crown over the house and like i said you can do this with anything you want you can do this whole template do one of the reading to write in you could write use one of the word templates from the last one however you want to make it work now let's go on the other side and we're going to make this really cheesy for christmas i got this dollar tree stencil from last year i think and i'm just going to try to tape this down.
I'm trying to tape it down, but there isn't much room for the tape to stick to the design underneath because there are so many stencils. on it i etched it the best i could and then i hold it down and i'm just using some acrylic paint um i think they're actually called holiday green and holiday red but use whatever you have and i'm just using once again my pouncer brush really trying to make sure i don't have too much paint and i'm ca full here because i'm going to do the green wreath and the red bow very traditional i like traditional when it comes to christmas it's my thing and that's it for that one side once again we're going to give everything a mod podge coat and i'll show you at the end what it all looks like finished.
I'll show you both sides of everything, so hold on, now that this last one isn't a wooden house, this is something I picked up on sale from the hobby lobby. It was originally 17.99 and I picked it up when it was less than two bucks. It's a dollar 79 or 1.49 something like that and I wanted to do it yourself so I kept an eye on it when it was on sale. and i hooked it once it got that low once again sorry this is all totally not in the frame but i know not everyone will have one of these but i just wanted to give you some other ideas and just let you know if you know find something on a thrift or clearance store that knows there's a few different ways you can do this, so I'm just going to give this a couple coats of paint.
I am using Waverly white chalk paint. Be sure to let it dry between coats. I have a couple layers on and it's nice and dry. I'm going to sand. I'm doing a lot of edges and corners. I do do a little bit on the flat parts but I mainly focus on the edges and corners to just bring in a little bit of that darker metal just so you know it's one to make it look a little bit older and not crisp and clean and also because the paint didn't look quite crisp and clean this wasn't a flat piece in there it had a few dents and stuff so instead of trying to fight I accepted it so I painted and sanded it down.
We're going to modify it just because I don't want the paint to come off this little metal. house and like I said this is a metal house so we're going to do a crown but this would be something that could be changed. I can make many different types of wreaths, so right now I chose this Red Berry Dollar Tree Wreath. If I had the orange, I would have made a fall wreath, but I don't, so I'll just do this, but you. You could also use some pretty greenery for

everyday

or you could use the Christmas greenery for a green Christmas wreath anyway, I wrapped it up, got the size I wanted and just twisted it around itself because it's actually a centerpiece. wire and then I'm pulling out one of these dollar tree magnets and I'm going to paint it because it's not going to be completely covered by the wreath so I'm going to paint it um and then mod podget that I didn't show you here and I'm gluing this on hot in there even though the crown itself has some metal in it.
I wanted to make sure he stayed so here's a look at all the houses. I love how they turned out. outside i like that they are

reversible

and the big one of course can be changed with the crown as well and this is what the other sides look like it will be so much fun just tuck them into the decor add them to your tray they could combine them as a set but he's so much fun to work with, well that will do for today's video, if you liked it don't forget to like and subscribe, if you're new I'd love for you to join my little YouTube family, get activethat notification. bell so you don't miss my future videos there are more christmas diys to come i'm not saying it will only be christmas from now until christmas but they will be coming soon and that's all i'll see you next time guys bye
