Cutting Larger Than 12X24 With Your Cricut

Jun 09, 2021
Hi, I'm Joanna's Final Calm Expression and today I wanted to cover an idea that a lot of people have all the time if you ever go and see the giant wall decal kind of big but you know

your

machine will only cut 12 inches wide. I'm going to show you today how you can use

your

machines to cut a

larger

24 by 24 decal, so let's go into design space and I'll show you how well, here in design space I have a funny saying. i wanted to use sweet dreams small and that's from the crickets picture vinyl wall art for home decor and i want to make it in a

larger

size about 22 inches wide and about the same height and like you know the cricket will only do the 12 inches wide so I'm going to show you a way we can cut this image and you can turn it into a large decal so I gave it the size I want it's 23 inches wide and 21 inches wide high and now it goes. and add your image to cut and I'm going to use a rectangle because I can make it 23 inches tall so we'll go ahead and we only need to cut it twice so that once you get your shape it's the size you want.

I want it and this one I know can measure 11 and a half inches wide on the machine so I'm going to resize it to eleven and a half wide exactly and then 23 tall and that gives me the size I want so I have one of that size. I know I'm going to need two, so I just copy and pasted the second one, so now the trick is figuring out exactly how to line it up. You can look at it and just move them together or use the position up here to move them together exactly, so I'm going to do that with this sweet dreams image first and I'm going to put it at position zero zero X Y so that it's right up there in the corner, like this which for the first rectangle, that's what I want to use also as position two zero zero and places it up there in the top corner, so the second one will have to get a little bit closer, so I want the x position at 11.5 and the position and at zero and that puts it right next to each other, but now we just need to move them back so we can see our image and we're going to split this image and you choose the image here in the Layers Panel, press Ctrl and choose one of the rectangles you want to use once you've clicked on the slice and this one is pretty simple where there are just two rectangles.

More Interesting Facts About,

cutting larger than 12x24 with your cricut...

This is the only time you will have to use the sector and I. I'll show you why in just a second if you have a larger image and you have more shapes involved, you'll want to cut each one of them. I'll show you in this why we only needed to cut one, you move. that rectangle that was out of the way and then part of the letters that were out that you cut now, if you move the other one, you have that other set of letters right there, so you have the two pieces that you want to cut, you don't need any of this here , so delete them now that you're ready to cut it, so when it sends it to the mat you'll see what it's going to do and it'll separate it into two. different mats, there's the first one that has the saying part and here's the second one that has the other half of the saying, so now it's ready and we're going to cut out the two sections and turn it into a larger sticker. you're ready to cut it out we already have one cut out and I want to show you just a quick way to put those two together once you put it on the wall once you're ready to put it on the wall because I have them cut out but sometimes it's hard to line them up and Place them exactly how you want them.

You can do it while it's on the wall, put one and then the other, or you can do it when I'm putting the transfer tape on and I'll show you that method. Remove this to the side and place the transfer tape on this half. I'm going to overlap the transfer tape a little bit on this side so I can use it. section to match there so lay it down, cut the transfer case nice and flat and now this one is done and you can see where the cut edge is, you can trim it before you put the transfer tape on or you can just fold it down a little bit back and attach it to this one and I'll show you how to fold it back a little bit to make sure it's attached properly and then fold the backing back a little bit and if you're afraid to do it all at once, you can just do part of it.

I'm just going to show you, you'll only have maybe half an inch to show, that's all I need to match the other one. one, so fold the backing over and just show a little bit of a half inch of that vinyl. Now place it with the other one and just combine them and if you prefer to use clear transfer tape you can do that. I like it. The paper transfer tape is a little harder to match sometimes, but it can be done, so looking at it closely just match up where those lines would match, so voila, once you've matched them all up you can see. which looks like one continuous line, one continuous letter as you go, so now you just need to put another piece of transfer tape on this half and you're ready to put it on the wall, so the easy thing is if you have any questions or comment, leave it below.
