I'll walk you through the software design space I use with Cricut and talk about SVG files, jpg and PNG images. I'm going to talk about how you can

upload

your own files, how to use printable files from other people's blogs and I'm going to talk about how to use your own lettering or draw designs in the Cricut design space do you need a scanner? do you need an iPad do you need Photoshop? I'm going to answer all of those questions, so let's get started right away. I will tell you that this Cricut design space is very easy to use.

The software is simplified. I find it very intuitive, very easy to use, but so if there is something really complicated that you want to do or if you are an advanced user and you already use Photoshop and you already know a lot of that stuff. You'll probably want to make your designs in Photoshop and then import them into design space as that's what I prefer to do, but design space itself can do a lot of the work for you and I'd say 99% of the time it won't. you do. You don't actually need different software if you don't want to, so once you get to this page, this Netcom layout car, you can go in and create a new canvas, the canvas is just your workspace or your project and you can see them and come.
I came back to it later so I opened a new one and from here you'll see the image

upload

and the shapes and now these are three different things that you can use to place images on your canvas, they're all the ones that are available through Cricut. Another thing I want to point out is the shapes. It comes with four or five different ones, and finally, charging them is what we're going to focus on today. This is how you get your own images in Cricut design software. What type of image do you need to enter Cricut design software?
There are three different types that I recommend you use and those are SVG files, JPEG images and PNG, so the SVG images above are the perfect type of cut file. What you would get if you buy cut out images are vector images that are scalable and are the easiest to upload and have the most options so you can change things once they are in the Cricut design space and then you also have PNG images PNG. images can have a translucent background which is great if you want to upload a design that is already ready for you and want to do it all in one color and lastly JPEG images have a solid color background so they are really great to print and then cut out the images or if you want to do a little more fine tuning in your design space and you can also use JPEG files.
If you have a choice, I would choose an SVG or a PNG, so let's look at the SVG images first to upload your own. image of any type you will want to choose that little cloud with the arrow that says upload from here you will see that there are two different options: upload a cut image and upload a pattern fill, so I almost always use to upload the cut image. I even do that when I want to use it as a pattern fill and I'll show you how I do it later, but to upload a cut image you click we search and find your image so the first thing I'm going to do is an SVG image the SVG is the easier to upload to Cricut design space, so you just click upload and you can add a name to it and you insert it.
It's very simple, so you'll see when you get there, you'll be able to turn it around. You can resize it and it looks like one image, but you'll see in the layers here that there are actually three different pieces, each individual piece is a separate element, so even though it looks like it will be cut as one piece when you check it out and click do it , you'll see it's in groups and it moves around the mat and if there's more than one color you'll see it cut into two different maps, you can change it all to one color and then you think that's cool.
I'm going to cut everything into one piece, but no, the pieces jump off, that's unique from an SVG image and what it is is different pieces, so select the set and then you can click attach and it will join all those pieces together so when you click do it it will say like one piece on the mat why I like to press join instead of solder because you can detach it and you can make changes if you press solder then it becomes a permanent piece and you can't unsolder it by Same time. some point and make the rose thicker and the leaves smaller or whatever, because they are individual pieces, you can go and make each piece of your picture a different color and have the school on two separate mats without any problems, really okay so the second type of Image is a PNG image but I commonly put it on my blog as a free download and the reason I really like it is because when you upload it and place it it stays as one piece so What's different about uploading it? upload it below the cut image so not the pattern and once you do that you will have to follow a few more steps before you can insert it into your project so after selecting your image you will be asked to choose if it is. a simple or complex image, if you're doing just a black pattern, a solid color like this on a translucent background, you're going to want to click on a simple image, for example, this one here I just wrote on my iPad pro. and I exported it without a background.
If you can export from your icon, let's say no background, so a translucent background is the easiest way you'll be able to upload your own lettering or your own design into Cricut's design space when you hit continue. You will be prompted to select and erase any area you want to remove now, as the entire background has already been erased. I don't need to do anything here. Click Next and then you can choose to save it as a print. cropped image or just as a cropped image. I'm just going to make a cropped image. All I want to do with this piece is cut it out.
I don't want to print the black ink and then cut it out. It would be a waste to be able to insert it and resize it and you'll see that it behaves the same, but in the layers tab you'll see that there's only one layer here, so each letter isn't entered. its individual layers and when I press it, it's already grouped in the correct format so that when I need it I can put my transfer tape on it and it will continue in the exact design I had in mind, which is why I like PNG images.
Although you can't make that many changes once we are in the sign space, it is very basic and easy to achieve, just cut it out. The third type of image I want to show you is JPEG, so there are a couple different ways. that you can use JPEG images the first one is a printed image then cut out so I drew this on my pearl iPad again and I have just a solid gray background around the shape I want to cut out so you can choose moderately complex or you can choose complex I chose complex for you to go through and you can erase and I erase by just using that magic wand tool and I clicked on the gray background, you can save it as a print and then cut or as a cut image and you can see the outline is really clean on that cropped image, this is how you can tell you've deleted what you need to delete JPEG images, just like PNG images, opt to import as a single layer so it's really easy to move them up and down and when you can. do it, it will print and then cut that printable vinyl, it's so fun to play with that, that's what I'm using here.
If you want to learn more about this, we have a full video on how to use printable vinyl. your Cricut and with your silhouette I will also put the link for that below, so in our last first silhouette

cricut

video I use this watercolor pattern which is a JPEG image that I uploaded and I cut out my daughter's name using the cut tool, so I'm going to do that again with this heart, so make sure you select both layers, pattern one and then after you press cut, it's going to cut it, so why do I like this?
I can move my shape. around and resize the pattern and I can get exactly the pattern pieces I wanted there, so if I really want to focus on one flower or another I can make sure that heart is on top, this is what loading a fill of pattern. Also, I'm going to upload another one with these watercolor floral backgrounds, so I'm going to upload this one as a pattern instead of a print and then I'll cut the file, so I go in, everything is pretty much the same except you have to add tags and you'll notice that it doesn't show up on recently uploaded images and that's because you need to go in and put in your shape so you can make another shape that you've uploaded or you can just use a basic shape.
I'll make a heart here just to make it simple and then in the layers tab, if you click on it and you go to print instead of choosing a basic color, you can choose patterns and when you click on patterns, the loaded pattern filled images will be will show in this. tab now doesn't give me the option of how to resize those and flip the pattern, so I generally like to do it as a cut result, okay, so the last thing I want to talk about is whether If you have something you've drawn or a letter on paper that you want to cut out with your Cricut so you can scan it and scan it, of course it will give you much better quality, but if you just want to go from your phone, I just took a picture with my iPhone and moved to my computer so that's what I'm working with here and then you're going to want to upload it and put in a simple image even though it looks like it's not a simple image because that will simplify the colors to make.
It's much easier to remove the parts you don't want, so first I just cropped out the area that wasn't part of my lettering and then I went back to the Magic Wand Tool and erased the background once I erased it. the background looks good, you can see this big border, but if you press preview you'll see what a cat would look like and you can see that big border disappears, so there are some random little bits here that you can erase, so if you go back to your erase tool, you can erase them and then once you're happy with how they look, go back to the preview and you can toggle between preview and eraser, since we've got all the little bits out that you wanted, so it's a little bit of a hassle. , but it's not bad considering this just came straight from your phone.
I mean, now it's a pretty easy way to get something in here. I usually do this in Photoshop. just to have the file also in PNG format on my computer so I can print it as well. I like to digitize it in one go and then upload it as an image, but if you don't use Photoshop or aren't competent or confident in it or don't want to pay for Photoshop, that's totally understandable. I would do it this way so the other thing you can do may take a while so go back to the preview to see what the solid cut letters look like if I really like the brush II look you can go back to this and you can erase some of those pieces if you want to erase them a little bit, so I'm going to undo and you can go to the Advanced Options here and you can lower your color tolerance a lot and you'll be able to say I just want to make two and then when you erase that, you'll get a lot less, which is great for book pressing, if you're comfortable with Photoshop.
I have a complete tutorial. on how to digitize your letters using Photoshop or cut them with Cricut and I'll link it in the description below here, so once you've cut them out of your vinyl or whatever material you're using, if it's for printing, cut them out once you've printed it and then I cut it out, then you can paste it into your projects and you know, you have your own designsin projects, which I think is pretty cool, so I really love the Cricut Design Space software and it does everything I need again. It allows me to use my own letters It allows me to use my own patterns It allows me to do all those things that I would love to do Make sure you jump on and watch Alexis' video, she's covering all the Same as you think, silhouette.
