talk about uh uh you know if it's mental health or substance abuse or anything and they have so much sympathy and empathy um and they say you know oh this is a disease or this is something that we oh you know you can't this person needs help but as soon as you were a foreigner you know as soon as i grew up with you on tv and you made those mistakes it's all stabs and attacks and you know they're trying to take you down which is something i don't really understand and makes it so much harder to get out of that kind of hole you find yourself in.

I know I don't know if I'm getting too into it but no I appreciate it yeah it's uh it's um yeah it makes it really hard when you're struggling with something personally where you see that other people you know are so strong. in their stance of oh well you know this person needs help or you can't attack this person or this person needs you to know that this person is struggling but as soon as it's someone you grew up with or know I mean they're just so, I mean it makes it very, very difficult, you know, to open your phone or your, you know your comment section or something, and they have things that are just not supportive, you know, yeah, I mean, I have a lot support.

I don't want to sit here and say, oh, I don't have to know everyone, you know, you go to my comments on YouTube, I mean, I have my comments, I don't know if you can do it on YouTube. your car I don't know if you haven't locked it or something no I don't want it but they are mostly good. I really don't want to get cut. 10 in a row which isn't good but no I know I want to say more, luckily with the things I've been through I have a lot of support and my fans have really been there for me especially here in Mexico. they they they dig a little deeper into the research than just a headline or click bait so it's been really helpful to me but it's still that thing you go through you know you see 10 negative comments but then the eleventh you know they say something that's really like oh oh you got me oh this one got me and then it just sits with you and stays with you or some article comes out where you did you might know you made a mistake and it's almost like you don't have no they give you a chance to redeem yourself to redeem yourself you know there's a problem with cancer culture that there's no redemption yeah there's no redemption yeah yeah there's no redemption yeah um, when a lot of it like in my case, you know, uh, it was so construed and taken out of context and things were left out when it was reported you know when things were reported um and it created an entire narrative which is absolutely not the case it's not true you know um you know I had gotten myself into and found myself in a little hot water when i was being stupid and i replied to someone who had created a fence like a fake instagram and was sending i know messages and i had responded and it got to a certain point and then i realized you know oh my gosh how i think this it's you don't quite know what it looks like or how they presented it and i uh i stopped communicating with them because i found out it's ok i think this person is not who it is you know this is not the case and i stopped communicating that he sent to that person into a total nosedive, they ended up, um, you know, chasing after my wife and going after going, she told me that she was threatening me and doing all these things and um so I had ended up getting myself in a little bit of trouble uh because to these these texts um but that's it was just a you know just a few texts and well when you go and look me up and see the reports I mean it's like I'm sending nudity and receiving inappropriate photos and I was being was being physical with this person at a concert or that person at a concert or I did this and none of that was the case and it was all investigated in my case, um, you know through Witnesses and and and for digital forensics, they took my phones and they cited my Instagram and social media and all that and everything that um was um was said came up uh false you know it came up there was no proof of any of it there um what would have been I mean if there is a is uh is digital forensics like if it's there it's there if it's not it's not there you can't even delete it maybe if you try to delete it is I mean they're going to find what they need to find and uh and then luckily for any of the physical stuff that happened at a concert I let you know so many witnesses that came out that not even from my side but from the accuser's side where they were like why are you talking? we were there we were there the whole time this didn't happen this didn't happen, they were never here alone, this didn't happen, so none of it, you know, advanced as far as charges or anything, all that could advance was you know that I was stupid and responded to some texts and that's what I, that's what I essentially ended up being accused of yeah but if you go and read anything I mean it wasn't even an assault case my case it wasn't even a there was no sexual assault no no assault no no physical on any of the counts on any of the uh what i had to uh go through but if you go and look for me it's like

being charged with sexual assault.

Drake Bell has to register as a sex offender. I'm like he is. not even a sex case yeah and it wasn't even an assault case it had nothing to do with it and it's frustrating that you can do anything about fake news like no no no there's no way you You can retaliate, no, what am I? I'm going to go to Sue in some publication and then a few days later they write an article, you know, criticizing me and then at the end they say, oh, by the way, we fixed a couple of things. I mean, nobody reads. that they only read the first headline and then they were done yeah that's a problem with boss reporting and headline culture yeah it's actually a really good book about uh by a guy named ryan vacation being It's called I think it's called trust me I'm lying oh yeah and it's a really good book on how fake news is built. he wanted to create this experiment where he wanted to fabricate a new news story so what he did was he bought this freeway space as a big sign yeah where he put up a movie poster and then he Auto tore up the poster and created a vlog and he wrote the story about how some people wanted that movie censored so what he did was he sent that flicker of that block he created to a really small block and once the small block beat the hook yeah he sent that link to a little bit bigger blog and then to a bigger blog and eventually ended up on Fox News and CNN with a fake news story, so it really exposed the way headline culture works and how fake news is created , yeah, I mean, we, uh, after I was sentenced for what, you know, what I went through, there were headlines saying you know Drake Bell is going to have to register as a sex offender in California.

I mean, it's not like that. It wasn't even a case of sex, I mean, I hate to talk like that, but that's just not what happened, yeah, and that's not why I was there and that's not why I, um, you know, and the which is why I even pleaded guilty. the charges that they charged me with because my lawyer looked at me and said look, I had already spent so much money on representation and investigation and all this just to defend myself and they said well, look, this is a trial it's going to look like you're going to go to be two or three weeks we just had my wife and i just had a kid so it's like your kid is sitting behind you watching this happen and the media was going to spin it any way you want it to be can click on it as much as possible and it will be every day people will see what happens every day and anyone can say what they want on the dais whether it's true or not and unfortunately we see guilty people go and Innocent people go to jail every day, yeah, and I just looked at them and thought, what's the other option?

So the other option is for you to take responsibility for this. and what you know what you uh what you did here you take responsibility for that and we charge you they will make you aware of the community service of probation and you will not miss a day in California with your son and I said I will take the one that does not i miss a day in california with my son and stuff and that's why i pleaded guilty but now it happens

pleads guilty it's like yeah no i was i was presented with two options you would have done the same you know um , and then he says he pleaded guilty to sexual assault and it's like none of that is true, none of that, none of that is even remotely true and sadly, you know you know, he put a big stain on uh on everything that I own that I have that I've been working and all that I've been doing um and and another one that you know is a bummer is you know I know I'm lazy about it but because I just haven't really found the time or the place or felt the comfortable enough to really discuss what I've been through in Hollywood and my history um but getting tagged with these things that have called me out in the past you know a couple of years um it's really hard, it's really hard when there are actual perpetrators who know they're doing really bad things and yeah, um, and things that have happened to me and now now I'm being labeled as the you know I am, you know I'm called all these different things and you know anyone can Tick Tock or Instagram posts and say oh he is this and that and then and is and people believe it right away it's so amazing how you know depending on how many likes it increases the credibility of whatever that person says when it's completely untrue like for example , I mean, I made a joke on my social media and changed my name to Bell as it was on my social media.

I was like yeah hey Trey Bell and then all of a sudden there were news reports because someone ticked that Drake Bell changed his name and moved to Mexico became a citizen he's on the run from everything that's going on in the United States all the time. I'm not crazy but not just not just a tick tock real newspapers Real publications saying Drake Bell changed his name and moved to Mexico. Re like, do you still live in Mexico? I was like, yeah, that was a joke, like how are you? and because some of you know that it exposes a lot about the system, yeah, the fact that that Tick Tock can make the headlines of the big newspapers and the big newspapers think it's so easy to become a citizen of Mexico and move here and I mean, what which took me like three weeks yeah when i did it i understand i mean the new they broke the story and and and all and and they took that and then they took all this other click bait stuff on me and mixed it up and said oh it's for that moved to Mexico. and he changed his name is to get me away from this and this and this I'm like I never moved to Mexico I never want to say I would love to if I never changed my name this is not what I got in trouble for this is not what it is , I mean you know even during my sentencing when you know this accuser said everything she said even the judge said okay I don't know what all that was but that's not why we're here this is like new new material, yes this is news this is a litany of accusations we haven't heard and this is i have to bring everyone back to why we're here today and it's about these few messages um and uh and you know what it is and you know that we all make mistakes but who doesn't, yeah you know, I mean who doesn't, who doesn't wake up sometimes on Saturdays and go, oh man, why did I do that last night or why did I? oh I should have done this or I should have done that and but unfortunately with us it just stays you know you know people have to go through what they go through but for us unfortunately it's just a different story yeah , well, it's crazy that, like the media, they have the same influence. about a public figure that Hollywood aliens used to have about an actor completely because they know there are no repercussions for sharing fake news and they just add an apology to the bottom of the story that anyone reads except the big problem with the media is that the The metric that incentivizes the journalist used to be credibility and now it just clicks, now it clicks, so when credibility takes this second stance, yeah, it doesn't matter if it's true or not exactly if it's shared. yeah and i've seen how it works because in this podcast i have some scandals and i've seen how the Machinery works it's usually 10 or 20 people who start tweeting some rumors or fake news and then the same people who started trading this rumor they work in some newspapers and begin to inform the bosses.

They create an article that tells everyone that some people are tweeting that Roberto said some things, yes, but it's the same, it's like it's the same people making the noise. fully sharing the news and then once it's in the media now everyone can have this flyer so they can share with everyone else and that's how you create fake news what happened to you uh the rumor that you moved to Mexico and changed your name it's a great example of this yeah huge and it's unbelievably huge and people believe it and then make it in print yeah and all of a sudden you're watching a tv show you know a morning show or something and they're like they're telling a big story about you, oh you know drake came to mexico and had a great time uh um except you know people people all these people came and had a greatreception and this and that, oh, but don't forget he pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy last year and you say yes, no, he didn't, no, he didn't, yes you are, no, he didn't, yes, it's fake, I mean, there's a third person, but not me. you didn't know and that's not but but those will say it right on the show and then the show ends and it goes on to something else and I'm like cool that's what you just left my audience with yeah and it's not true and what The ironic of all of this is the fact that the new spread that you moved to Mexico is like the biggest example of what's going on, yeah, so you have this proof that this is something that the media is fabricating and sharing. because it's what gets more viewers yeah or more actual readers yeah yeah and then you see it mutate well you see it go from oh Drake Bell changed his name and moved to Mexico yeah like this broken phone changed the his name and he moved to Mexico because he's escaping these accusations and oh he and then he grows and grows every time yeah still here in california in my same house just doing my thing you know so yeah yeah anyway it's a shame.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, my friend, really, yes, it's hard. It's been a pleasure meeting you, yes honestly I've watched you since he was very young so it's my great honor to have you. I love, you know, doing concerts and I love doing all these things. but now it's very yes, you know you have to be very, very careful now because you know, for example, I mean, I've seen things on Tick Tock or on different social networks where I go and someone asks me for a picture, you know and you go. and you take a picture and you're nice and you're nice you're great see you later and they post a story about how nice he was but then they get all these comments so they take the video down and put it back and they go oh my gosh I have to tell you how do you know drake got him confused when we took this photo and he said this and he said that and I said yes and then all of a sudden all his comments.

They're rooting for them, yeah, you know, when they used to say, oh, how can you be? Because of all the things people you know get twisted up and think about me now, how can you say this about that person? How can you be? I've taken a picture of them so they take it down and then they change the story and say I was inappropriate or I said something and I'm like get up yeah it's disgusting that opinion on social media has turned into some kind of total de social currency it doesn't matter if you believe what you say it's just currency yeah so you have to feel part of the group and if the mainstream is saying something yeah I've seen it yeah I think I think that's great the place to leave it is just you know uh deuce do what you love to do and don't worry what people think but it just gets hard because of how noisy social media is and the power it has to influence. like we've been talking all this time about media and stuff like that, so yeah, and we haven't been exposed to anything similar in the past, like social media is relatively new, yeah, and like when, when, when DaVinci he painted the Mona Lisa, there was not a comment section, so the comment section is something we're still trying to figure out because it's a comment from one person that says more about them than it does about you.

I really put myself out there well because art is a mirror so I'm reflecting my interest in your art so if you understand this, if you understand comments that way, you really start to empathize with people spreading hate because you're like Wow you. she really must be coming from a very dark place she needs some sort of vessel i am her right vessel to spread hate and she doesn't even know me exactly yeah exactly great well thank you so much man thank you so much everyone who is watching or listening to this podcast thank you my friend yes thanks it was a great episode great
