Apple Watch 8 - First 14 Things To Do! ( Tips & Tricks )
Apr 30, 2023abroad so you just bought the Apple Watch series 8 and you know what time it is it's time we set this up the right way and I'm making this video for you so you can get the most out of this
watch
from day one and I chose the besttips
andtricks
the internet has to offer and I've put them in a very specific order and you'll see why I did it this way once we get to the end of the video and Just before we start I just want to show you one quick thing, did you know that if you hold down two fingers on thewatch
face the type is read and you see this if you go to the watch app on your phone and scroll down? to where it says clock if you are too lazy to open your eyes or open your ears to hear what time it is you can go to taptic time here and set vibrations that will help you tell the time and if you can read morse code you will love it So let's not waste any more time and get into tip number one, you know what you don't need anymore in this day and age?The
first
thing you should do is manage your notifications, so I recommend adding the Apple Watch app somewhere on your home screen for now. I added it here and I recommend you do the same, you can remove it later after the video. if you want but the reason I recommend adding it now is because we're going to come back to this throughout this video so this is the problem if you get an unexpected Embarrassing Alert on your wrist do you want the person next to you so you can read it if the answer is no then you definitely need to do thisfirst
go to Notifications and then here where it says tap to show full notifications turn that on now what will happen is when you get notifications on your watch it will be a abbreviated version and then it will expand the full version when you hit the alert so here's tip number two so the reality for most people is you'll raise your wrist to check your watch unless you're Mr Fantastic of the Fantastic Four, in which case you could probably curl your hair to read your watch, but if that's not you, you'll want to follow this tip and it will save your energy and that's a small bonus, so check this out. go to Notifications and then go to this section here where it says show notifications on wrist down here you want to turn off all the apps that aren't incredibly important to you for me it's about 95 of the apps so I've already gone through this already and I've turned off a bunch of them but one of them i'm definitely going to leave one is this pay by phone so it's an app that lets you pay for parking in london and i definitely want alerts when parking attendant vultures start circling my car so think about this carefully and choose the apps that you want to be alerted to even when your wrist is down and now i just want to shout out sponsor of this video O2 if you follow me smartphone Tech you will know he moves fast but you know what doesn't move fast? a three year contract and I'm not saying long contracts are bad, in fact some of the most players right now at O2 are amazing and include this new feature and honestly this is a game changing option for O2, it's a breath of fresh air it's called change as i mentioned before change is already included in Plus plans but if you want to add it it costs 3.99 per month that's about the same price as a cup of coffee when added to your account, you'll get the ability to trade in your old phone for a new one when you're ready, which means you can keep up with the latest smartphone technology year after year without having to stop and start your contract, there are no hidden costs or fees purchase of course teas and seats apply so please read them there will be a link in the description below one of the most important T&Cs is of course your old device must meet the qualifying criteria, so as long as you haven't dropped it off a cliff or gone deep sea diving with it you should be fine but just to be sure I suggest you check the link in the description below and see O2 switch so So this next tip might sound very similar to the one above but this one is arguably more important if you do it from day one it will improve your experience on your Apple watch so trust me when I say this do it once do it right then don't you have to do it again, so stay in the notifications section within theapple
watch app, scroll down to the section that says Mirror iPhone alerts turn off all unnecessary apps immediately and it was really amazing for me, right out of the box, how many of these apps were all on that were completely unimportant and were blowing up my wrist and the watch was draining battery real fast right away now that i turned them all off the battery life is so much better so check the list if there's something here that you think isn't important at all then turn it off but make sure you leave the important ones like this here Pizza GoGo because there are very fewthings
in life that are more important than pizza and here's a little extra tip if we back off a bit up to the section where we have all the official Apple apps at the top here each one has a sub menu and each one is slightly different so in this video I don't have time to go through each one but I recommend you spend a little time looking at these settings here and see if there's anything you want to adjust when it comes to notifications for example heart rate could be something you want to see if that's a concern for you you can set alerts for low heart rate and high heart rate and stuff like that so I've spent a while looking at the official apps and also the notifications for most of them are very important so don't turn them all off but definitely check them out so depending on if this is your first Apple Watch or not, you might want to consider doing it from day one and then maybe switching it up later. and as you get more familiar with the app icons on the watch we can change it back later so check this if we go into theapple
watch app and go to the app view right now everything is in watch mode grid, which means we can zoom out and find the apps we're looking for.The problem is if you don't know what these icons are it will be hard for you so list view is what I recommend on day one and what this will do is put all the apps in alphabetical order so they are much more easy to navigate if you don't know what the icons mean and later when you become a Jedi Master app icon and no longer need the words to figure it out. what
things
you can switch it back to grid view because grid view is actually a little bit faster if you know what you're doing time is of the essence so now let's move on to tip number five so I'm going to tell you something you probably already know but this little button on the side here the side key opens the watch face and this is a quick way to find your favorite apps unless you switch to recent in which case this will go directly to apps most recently used now let me show you how to do it and setting it to recent can be very helpful for some of you but for others you might prefer favorites I prefer favorites and what I recommend you do from day one is edit in the top right hand corner here, delete the ones you don't need, pick the ones you do need and order them in a very specific way that makes sense to you and if you use these little bars down here you can move things up. and down the list so I absolutely recommend you do this on day one because it will save you time and as you know time is more valuable than money because no one can give you time back right now if you are getting something. video value.I would appreciate a thumbs up, maybe a comment or even a subscription because it's all downhill from now on. I'm really kidding. helps you save power and keep your choices in mind here go to General here go to update background app now this is a list of apps that will update in the background on your watch continuously over time unless you turn off so you should continue this list and turn off the apps that are not important to you now you may feel that if you turn off some of these you are somehow missing out don't think like that because next time you open the app in the clock will. update manually, except this time it will only do it on your watch and just to be clear, this is me saying that you have manual control of when they update on your watch.
I hope it makes sense so this tip is a great battery saver in fact it may be the biggest battery saving tweak you can do on the Apple Watch but it's going to be a trade off it's a bit of flair and a little bit of ease of use for an extra battery so let's go to the apple watch app on the phone this time we're going to show and shine now i recommend you customize this setting however you feel comfortable what i want to show you is this the always menu active now if they turn it off it will instantly and dramatically improve the battery dip on your apple watch and i know from experience on android watches when you turn off the always on display it literally doubles your battery life but the other cool thing about doing this and that reason why i recommend you do that is it actually opens up an amazing feature on the watch check this out so when the screen turns off like this you can still read the time and check this out using the crown you can actually increase the brightness very slightly and read the time and then bring it back down whenever you want that feature is not available unless you do this so here's a question for you have you ever been casually walking down the street minding your own business like Toby Maguire and Spider-Man and all of a sudden a police siren goes off and makes you jump okay?
If you have Apple Airpods Pro and Apple Watch together, actually the two combined can prevent this from happening in the future, so to enable this feature, let's go back to the Apple Watch app on the phone this time. to sound and haptics and here where it says headphone security touch that and then we have this little switch here that reduces loud sounds now what it will do is use your watch to measure outside sound and adjust the audio through your airpods and I even heard MKBHD say that you could actually stand next to a very loud speaker and this will actually work together to bring the volume of the speaker down to the level it should be so it doesn't hurt your ears so now next time a loud sound radiate around.
You, your watch, and your airpods pro will protect your eardrums from an unexpected impact, so while we'd like to think the world is full of nice people, unfortunately that's not true, there are plenty of kids out there who'd be happy to steal your ear. yours. shiny new apple watch and if they do they might as well be stealing your personal data so here is a security measure that i absolutely recommend you implement in the apple watch app on your phone scroll down to where it says security code access make sure I have a passcode set up so what I want to bring to your attention here is this enable data wipe which means if someone takes your watch and enters the wrong code 10 times in a row all your personal data They will be deleted. if you're a forgetful person don't turn this on it's only four digits but the mind is like an attic that fills up because sometimes we forget to get rid of old information so if that seems to you don't turn this on but for to everyone else i recommend it, did you know that if you hold the side key for two seconds you can make an emergency call from the watch and you can even use compass backtrack if you get lost but here's the question is there something strange? in your neighborhood and there's something wrong and it doesn't look good who you're going to call and yes you could set this as a pizza delivery number for those emergency pizza orders but don't and let me tell you why. if you're using the latest Apple Watch then you know it has fault detection and worst case scenario who are the people you need to know first, that's the question to ask yourself and once you've found the answer.
Do this. Go to the Apple Watch app on your phone. Scroll to Emergency SOS. and you always fall turn on full detection always on but this is what i want to show you and you may have already set this up but double check just to be sure go edit contacts in health here you can add all your medical data important including blood group or any allergies you may have let's say you are allergic to penicillin this will be invaluable to a medical team if something bad happens and this is also very important add an emergency contact now be sensible about it just becauseYou crash, the last thing you'll need is a double pepperoni with extra cheese, so in many people's eyes that's going to be the first thing to do and that's customizing your watch face and the easiest way to do it. far is not on the watch itself but on the phone just like all the other
tips
i have shown you so far on the apple watch app on the phone at the bottom you will see the gallery of faces and this is all the Apple watch face library now keep in mind you can choose multiple watch faces and not just one so we can select a bunch of different looks maybe one to work on one for when you're dressing you can add a bunch of these and toggle between them on the watch whenever you want so you don't feel like you're stuck with the ones you choose now once you've selected a couple of watch faces, come back to this section here my watch at the bottom and you'll see all the faces of your watch face on top now if you want to personalize these watch faces and make them more your own its very easy to do so i really like this moon watch face.I'm going to touch on that I can change the Accent color on the clock to whatever I want. I can change the calendar from Chinese to Hebrew to Islamic I can even go from analog to digital and we can even customize the complications on the watch here to whatever we want them to be so let's say I don't care about the UV index and I care more about the voice notes. I have a good idea, I can activate the voice memo quickly by pressing the complication in the top right corner of the watch face, so go through all the settings on your chosen watch face and customize these features to make sense for you and if this also sounds complicated you don't have to do it a lot of the default watch faces look pretty awesome without any customization like this for example this menacing mouse is five 48 so this is an important aspect to consider and i'm not going to to say you have to download this or you have to download that or the world will explode or something I'll just show you the door and it's up to you if you want to walk through it so check this out go to the Discover tab in the Apple Watch app and at the bottom here you'll see explore watch faces now you can do this on the watch but it's much easier here here is the complete library of all apps for the apple watch a couple of things you might want to install is maybe youtube music if that's your default music streaming service there's a lot of cool stuff on here and there's some featured stuff at the top and i find this one pretty cool night sky sometimes i look at the stars and i think what it must be like to be so rich ok Anyway, it was a sick joke, let's move on to the next one, so here's a question: do you ever get annoying phone calls from random people at random times?
I'm assuming you do or have in the Past now, here's a quick way to silence those annoyances without having to press any buttons. All you need to do for Musical on the watch is to put your hand over the screen and that will silence the call. For me, then the Apple Watch is perhaps the best consumer health monitoring device ever created, but the screen is quite small, so I recommend that you add the Apple Health widget to your home screen in somewhere i can see i have it here just with my vpn my google search and this allows me to monitor what's going on on the watch and this also works as a shortcut to the health app so i can zoom in on all the information and really get a clear view of what's going on rather than trying to figure out here on the watch the easiest way to set this up as you probably know by now is to simply hold your finger down on a stack or an empty part of the screen , go to edit stack, hit the More at the top here and then find your health app or find it here at the top, drag it to the stack and you're done.
I recommend you do this. Another bonus tip is to add the battery life widget as well so you can see here. I have the battery life. watch live earbuds airpods lifespan then airpods themselves all visible at once so you can keep an eye on your power supply you're taking the Mick and the one you think is John Travolta and here's another bonus tip for you guys I think you'll find this very interesting so if you go to accessibility here and then scroll down to where it says Assistive Touch tap on it and enable it what you can now do is unlock gestures on the watch so if you're too lazy to lift a finger and touch the screen you can do this instead of hand gestures and as you can see here we have pinch double pinch squeeze double squeeze and you can see we can configure the action to trigger these controls correctly now it's double clinch and if you press learn more it will walk you through step by step how to use them so when you press try on apple watch it's like a tutorial so pinch number one double pinch registered double squeeze Now by using these techniques you can operate the watch so I'm not saying you should use that feature I'm just showing you that it is possible and there are various reasons why you might want to use it maybe your fingers don't work as well like before and maybe those gestures are easier than touching the screen or maybe you are a giant and your finger is bigger than the whole screen and i hope you got something of value from this video if you have the new iphone or the new airpods Pro there are two thumbnails on the screen right now full of tips and
tricks
and hidden features for you to see so let me know what you think of this video thumbs up subscribe that would be awesome and if you just subscribed you're not one of the best subscribers known to man i'll see you on the next one so don't be lateIf you have any copyright issue, please Contact
