2021 Genesis G80 V6 AWD / Review (superb)

Jun 08, 2021
this is the

2021

genesis

g80 it's a four door sedan with v6 and all wheel drive and it looks fantastic and in the week i had it some people even said i like their bentley and i have to laugh at it. I used to correct people but now I don't correct them anymore. I just say, "Hey, thanks." I already made a video about this on my channel where I drove it and played some music and that's because it looks cool, but what I want to talk to you about today are the features and I know you've probably seen other videos of the g80, so I'm not going to repeat everything they say because I do things differently here on new cars.

I don't edit much. and I try to incorporate the character of the vehicle rather than just regurgitating a press release, so what I will tell you is that I love this car, it is a very attractive car, it has a striking look, it draws a lot of attention and it moves. and as for the way it goes on the street, it reminds me of a mercedes s class, an e class w124, even the cls-53 amg and, well, without the meaningless air suspension because they are just steel springs and they drives magnificently. on these rough dallas roads and it also reminds me of the infinity q70 which is interesting because that infinity reminded me of an old school mercedes so we are in the realm of a solid german feel is what this car is for me giving and That makes a lot of sense because of who they poached from Genesis, they poached from BMW, so that feeling is definitely right in this car.

More Interesting Facts About,

2021 genesis g80 v6 awd review superb...

I wouldn't compare it to an old BMW. This is pretty much a Genesis, so you should drive one. and feel it for yourself, I think the first thing you'll notice is that it feels like it's suspended, but then after a couple of days the ride becomes very noticeable in terms of stability. I'll keep it that way, so I like how it is. rides and as far as this car goes, I think the biggest problem is that people will think this is an underdog and it's not necessarily an underdog, this is a real reputable vehicle at this point, it's not a knockoff, no is trying to be something else, they're gone. above and beyond and they made their own vehicle and it will compete with the germans and the japanese obviously the

genesis

is owned by hyundai and it is korean but it is not without its contradictions and I think in saying that I would only say that the more astute buyers . uh pay attention to the details and as you can see there's a lot of detail here the open wood the stitched leather and the pretty nice back seat this driver's seat moves back when you get in and out so this is not the driving position.

It just slides back and then when I get in, it starts, the car slides forward so you can enable and disable it. I just wanted to show you some things so I drove the kia k900 and in the kia k900 I was like oh you know what? If you're going to be in a luxury car in the back seat, you need a way to close the doors. Well Genesis has locks on the doors so it's nice to have them because if you actually had a driver and your driver went to get something for you or whatever and you're sitting here you want to be able to lock the doors and now you can and you'll see this too, This is a feature that was on the Kia K900 and I would like to say there are no Kia parts on Hyundai here, however you will see some familiarity.

I have to hold this button down and again there's no button there, but you can basically fold this seat all the way forward and then move it and then you'll get more room to lounge in the back seat let me just let it go now there's no button back here to do that but you can do it from the side so that's it there's a vent here for the ventilated seats in the front there's no footrest so it's not really a k900, but it's also not a uh, a g90, which is even bigger than this. As for the g80, the contradictions are still here.
I know on my volvo s90 that I personally have I have power side sunshades and you can't use power sunshades back here and there is a power rear sunshade but there's no button to control it here so that's a little disappointing and on my volvo s90, which has practically the same price as this one. a t6 r design and it has air suspension and stuff, so it has about the same sticker price, around 65,000, same as this one. I can't open the sunroof blind or even open the sunroof in general from back here, so there aren't too many features for the back seat, that makes sense when you compare it to some of the competition.
Wait, I spoke too soon. There's the rear sunshade, which is nice. It would just be better there because I don't have to. a little bit of contortion to get to the controls for my seat, so taking that back, let's step outside for a second because I want to show you something really interesting. The sound system, by the way, is extraordinary. It's a lexicon that I believe is part of the Harman Audio group. and it's awesome, I like it, so we'll close the door. I like how the glass here is flush, which helps eliminate side noise. We have a very pleasant aroma.
Groban claimed some very high quality glass on this vehicle, but I noticed. It took me five days to realize that the doors close softly, check that out, so my Volvo doesn't have that, so it's a trade-off if you don't want the side sunshades on, you still need it, although you get something with doors gently closed. otherwise this worries me, it says this vehicle uses 2g or 3g wireless technology blah blah blah so that's the built in SOS function and stuff like that, the problem is that 3G support will go away at the end of 31 December 2022 so in a year and a half the 3g or 2g wireless system that this label says this car has will be outdated and that means cell service will no longer work so that's a little worrying and buyers at this price they will pay attention to that. kind of thing, but you can see here that we have our connected unit button and our SOS, does that mean that after December 31, 2022 they will be completely useless?
I don't know, I like that this button is here because then we can move everything back. I don't know if we could both do it at the same time oh yeah look that's very convenient the seats are beautiful leave it there and in the center we have some storage there is no USB port here there is a little tray for things to move around we have a hidden cup holder and that's great, I don't like exposed cup holders so it's nice to have and then here we have wireless phone charging and two USB ports and that's it, I don't even think I've seen USB charging.
However, in the back it doesn't matter because this interior is what puts this vehicle on par with the competitors, it is no longer an underdog brand and when we look here there is a lot of technology to look at so we will drive this, let me turn. Turn it on and we'll talk about the contradictions again. These are not just normal indicators. This instrument cluster here is actually a 3D cluster. Personally, I have a hard time seeing it. Things get a little blurry on the sides here because I have astigmatism and I have four sides and you have vision, so you can see two infrared lights here.
There are two cameras here looking at your eyeballs and that's how 3D works. Play with your eyes to make things look real. three-dimensional so that your cameras don't pick it up and you don't see it here on the screen, but I have disabled it so that I can see the meters clearly because when they are on and there are two modes, there is normal and strong. When 3D mode is on, everything looks blurry to me and my eyes can't focus fast enough, so luckily that can be turned off, so if you're an older person and you drive one of these cars and you're like, "Oh, this screen is on the wrong turn." outside of the 3d, now something else too is that this v6 engine is very robust, it's raw and this thing moves so much that I don't feel like I need to talk about horsepower numbers because, frankly, nothing here has been inadequate on the power side. the power or the luxury side or anything else so yeah the only contradiction here is that sometimes I notice a lot of vibration so it's not the smoothest motor in the world and it doesn't sound very good it just has a good sound, now you can have it.
Your sound infused through the stereo system is fine-tuned. I have it turned off, but you can make it low, medium or high as far as an engine noise coming into the cabin. I turn it off so when I drive today that is the actual engine noise. It's not the cabin infused sound, the steering wheel looks great, it's very controversial, but the only thing I would say is that when you're driving and you see these buttons here because they're crooked, it looks like the steering wheel is tilted in one direction. or the other so that it never looks like you're driving in a straight line and that's the only thing I don't like about this, but I mean, it's something I hate, if we look here, you'll see that we have our controls and you can go to settings and everything and then here we also have a haptic feedback display system and it's nice to have this is very jaguar land rover range rover like uh and this is very audi like here with the temperature display on the dials though If you're going to make a display like This one and I'm a software engineer, let me continue with my little complaint.
If you're going to make a screen like this, it should include the features that you get here, so for example, if we check this screen, what you'll see is that we have our sound design active, blah, blah, blah, okay, like this that if I go to the climate, there is recirculated air but there is no automatic recirculation and the climate. The system itself is not very clear in that it has no research on the car's climate and air, so it doesn't necessarily tell you if it's actually filtering the air or doing anything for your health, so this is where it really will.
Do certain things here so smart ventilation is when the climate is off it kicks in to maintain so there's nothing here that says if the air is dirty it will recirculate that's what I'm trying to sell you so the other thing too. The climate features this indirect ventilation, meaning it goes through a passive vent up here when you use the air conditioner and it diffuses the air, but when you're in Texas and it's 105 degrees outside you want direct ventilation and stuff? You would have to go through the menu to get here each time and that should be here.
All of those weather settings should be here. There should be a gear icon and with that gear icon you should be able to turn something like that on and off. Just like I can do here with the front and back, you should be able to have settings and you should be able to do an automatic investigation. You should be able to use parking weather. You should be able to access direct ventilation and not have to go inside. that menu there so if it's not here and it's there it's like hidden and if it's out of sight it's not in mind so I wish they could update it and uh that's part of my whole thing with things subtleties about this car.
It kind of seems like there's a little more they can do to really surprise people, so we've talked about the engine refinement, we've talked about the climate system and this screen here and we've talked about the side curtains and the lack of controls for the side curtains and all that, I mean we have soft closed doors, we have everything I said the kia k900 should have and it would be a competitor instead of a loser and here we are in a Genesis G80 and it's a competitor, it's not a loser and we'll talk about this now, so we'll go around.
This is the gear shift selection and this is the screen control here, so I like the overall layout. I like the volume knob and everything they have here. It's a bit strange to use, it's hard for me, but luckily it's a touch screen so you can go straight home. However there are times when I'm driving and I have to confirm a screen okay and while I'm driving I'll press down while I'm driving I'm not looking at what I'm pressing and I realized I hear a ding ding ding and that's because I press park while I'm driving Instead of pressing here to confirm, I'm pressing here to confirm and I know other people have complained about that too, like a passenger grabbing this and turning it thinking it's like driving from a BMW or command system. in mercedes to control the screen and the reality is that this does not stick out and I think if this stuck out and maybe this knurling was on the outside like it is here and it was just bigger or if maybe this button p uh here for park had a kind of braille, I would know that I'm not pressing this pad, I'm pressing this one, there's just no difference in the feeling here between these two centers, it's almost like even the concave shape is the same somehow, so now what We'll do is drive it and I'll show you the next big impressive thing here is the driving mode.
I haven't been using the driving mode because the contradiction here is also that you can. Go into sport mode and your seat settings change and everything changes and I don't really feel a difference in the way the car drives, which is good, but I've never used it because I've never had to. There isso many things. power in comfort mode which if I put the pedal to the metal I'm fine however you'll also notice when you go out of sport mode and out of it you go straight to eco mode which sucks I think it should be sport comfort custom eco and then you go back to comfort because no one wants to go from sport to eco, believe me, and I think that's part of why I haven't used sport mode because you can't go back to comfort without going through all these different modes. again and the other benefit is when you're on the highway and you're going over 70, it could even be 80 miles per hour, the driver's side seat bolsters go in and the seat starts to hug you at highway speeds and then when you go back When you slow down, you relax again and that is comfort. mode and that is automatic, do I need sport mode?
No, the other thing also is that the driver's seat has massage functions and if I press a button here on the side of the seat down, I ignore that receipt if I press the button down here you will see that there is an option for ergometric movements, so I can do lumbar pelvic and full body stretches and it definitely does exactly what it shows you on the screen and you can change those settings too so it's nice to have but it's just in the driver's seat and I wish a car At 65,70,000 I would also have it for the passenger seat.
I know some Audis do the same kind of thing like oh you want memory seats for the front passenger good luck and this is the same thing we have here we don't have any memory for the passenger so let's start driving the cars With the brake, we just get going and go. Now what I want to show you is the turning radius or the turning circle that you can see. There we are against the sidewalk. I'm going to go ahead and turn on the camera here so the sidewalk is on the right and we have a front camera.
We also have a surround camera where we can see ourselves. So yes, we are close to the sidewalk. Great and what we're going to do is make a U-turn here and that box is in the way, we'll see if we can go a little further and avoid it, is that okay while you're driving? the screen shows the 360 and that's not oh wow it even shows the wheels spinning but obviously that's not the color of our car those are our wheels so you just have a generic g80 to look at so let's go ahead and do This is quite clear in both directions. turning turning turning I'm going to miss the box, I don't think so, oh, I missed the box and look at that, look at the space I have on the sidewalk, you can see I have like three, maybe even four feet of the sidewalk, this is amazing car, this car is more suited in the city than some city cars i have driven like you know the chevy bolt and the toyota corolla hatchback, and there are some city features here that are default like auto start and stop It doesn't retain memory, so that's a problem, I wish it were that way.
This is a tricky intersection, so let me make sure it's clear to go okay, we're going to jump onto the freeway real quick, you'll be able to hear the vehicle, I won't tell. a lot and you will understand the acceleration and everything that looks like a bad accident, it is definitely not lacking in power and I love the features like if you signal left the camera turns on in the instrument cluster, if you signal right , the camera turns on and that really illuminates everything that is in your blind spot and it will also warn you and also in your head it will show you if someone is in your blind spot and of course you have your icons on the mirror so safety is not an issue in this car and i would say that even when you compare this to, let's just say, the mercedes in front of us, although it's just a c class, now they all look alike, c-e-s, however you notice, i have this icon here it is a lane steering wheel and if I press that and the steering wheel is green now the car steers itself and I have tried it in different ways.
I've gone through curves on roads like this and without taking turns, obviously, just driving down the road and having my hands off the wheel, but also changing the speed of the car because when you slow down in a curve, the car actually turns more. closed due to the central centrifugal force, so basically it wants me to put my there, come on, so the direction. The system here is interesting because if I put it on it means I can do something like clean the dirt off my sunglasses or, you know, do something really quick where I can get distracted and it will allow me to do it and it will take care of driving within the lanes. or in traffic and that's not the radar aspect, the radar aspect is here, you have to turn on the cruise control for it to work, so you have two different driving modes here, it's very similar, eerily similar. to how the mercedes works and how the volvo works so genesis is not an underdog when you look at the technology except for the 3g 2g aspect which i hope they rectify and go straight to 5g because they have to do it everyone has to do it .
We'll see if they have an option to update that later in the future, but Genesis is watching, I know they're listening and I appreciate it. That's all. I know we have autonomous driving capability to some extent. we have the lane keeping aspect, uh, I turned off the green button on the steering wheel, but we still have the lane keeping aspect. You can see it with that icon there and if I violate the lane, I'll see it automatically correct itself. that even without the steering wheel button if I click the steering wheel button it will just drive within the lane on its own so that's the difference you know if you did it in the volvo you would have to have equipment and I think just the mercedes can do it this way, the mercedes would also change lanes on its own, which if it had that mode on and this doesn't, that's the only difference here between the mercedes and the genesis on the technology side and the sunroof is quite a bit.
It's also great because it has a shutter that opens like a butterfly and opens up and out so you have more space inside the cabin. It doesn't really eat up your head room and overall I think this car is awesome especially if they have a sport version if there was a way to get carbon fiber trim and I would probably buy a sport version of this it would have the grille and all blacked out chrome trim, I'd probably buy this car in white, black, look, get it? the mirror there I don't know if you can see it vibrating, but the mirror is vibrating and the engine is idling because I turned off the stop start and there is a little bit of refinement that this car lacks and that's the kind of contradiction I have.
I'm talking about these little things that astute buyers will notice and I think that genesis is not a weak point, but rather it's like the last few things that they need to work on for this car to really outperform the competition and just kick their asses, let's close this sunroof, there's a lot of traffic there on the highway, oh, they're completely stopped, well that's not right, so there you have it, it's 11:15 in the morning on Monday, April 12, this car actually does it. they pick up, well, right now. between 11 and 1 and then they left me a toyota supra to drive the four cylinder this time and I want to thank genesis for letting me drive the g80 uh I can't wait to drive the gv80 and the g70 and the g90 because the way the way it drives, I definitely wouldn't look at a 5 Series or an E Class.
It has so much going on that it gets a lot of attention and people think it's a Bentley, it's like me. I'd rather have this than something that looks like everything else on the road and might be a bit of a cushy and controversial design. People don't like grilling or whatever. I really do not care. I'm here. This is what I get. to look at and I'd rather look at this all day for a couple of years than something else okay there you have the genesis g80

review

different from what you've seen in other g80

review

s and I hope you see it in my perspective as someone who really enjoys this vehicle really thinks there are some areas that can improve and overall I really enjoy it a lot and you know the car I have now is the volvo s90 so keep in mind it's a little bit of a bigger car than this one and it doesn't have as much power as this one, but it still has the same refinement and technology, so the genesis has really come a long way and it's not an underdog, very good, have a great day, thanks for watching, we we see.
In the next video, like, subscribe, comment, do all that well, greetings
