20+ AMAZING $1 DIYS YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE | FUNCTIONAL DOLLAR TREE DIYS |DIY Hacks & Room Decor

Jun 07, 2021
Hello everyone and welcome to the DIY nest of the week, so today we are going to make 21

amazing

dollar

tree

DIYs that you can

actually

use now. First of all, this is a DIY I did a while ago and I

actually

just made a piece inspired by a collaboration I did. With Jenny from Lovely Moments creating, so I'll show you this piece I made last year. For this I took a wooden frame, a wooden round and some macrame cord. Now I'm going to link the full tutorial in the description box below. which has the exact same measurements on how to do this, but I basically cut some strands and did a very basic square knot on this peg piece so that whether or not the peg piece was rounded so it would have a nice macrame accent that will be a way to hang this earring holder so again the full tutorial in the original video will be linked in the description box below but I have a macrame channel.

I haven't posted on it in months. I had every intention of posting it in the month of April, but I had some family issues that I needed to take care of, so I hope to have videos on that channel soon, but all I'm doing here is separating these pieces in two and tying a knot basic square and I feel like square knots are easier to see than for me to complicate and explain them, and then I'll connect them again. This is a very simple and beginner-friendly way to add some macrame to a piece so you can hang it on alternating sides. through and completing the square knot and you're going to do this two more times before repeating the same three square knots on the other group of ropes.

Now you can use nautical

dollar

tree

rope for this, but since it's a little bulkier you'll probably need a little more, but macrame cord is pretty inexpensive at a craft store or even on Amazon, so you definitely have some options. here and now, we simply repeat those three full square knots on the other side before connecting them once the square knots. on each side are ready, it's time to connect them by taking two strands of each, connecting them in the middle to have four and then completing a square knot just to have everything connected for the top hanger of our earring.

Now I used a wood. hobby lobby canvas frame, but Dollar Tree also has picture frames and stretched canvases that you can take apart and use the wood, so again you have a lot of options for that as well and then once you go ahead and complete the three square knots in in the middle you are going to do the same thing connecting this middle piece to the sides using four pieces for one side and four for the other again just making a loop and pulling it forward making a super easy square knot once all the knots are done facts.

You're just going to cut out the macrame pieces and make them wider and fringe them and then we'll attach them to the top of our wooden frame. The first thing I wanted to do was make sure it fit on the top. of the frame, I glued some pegs to the back to hang an earring. I actually ended up using um you could use dowels, but now that I remember, I used some dollar tree wood skewers which are definitely easy to find this time of year. Dollar Tree and then I took this pet brush also from Dollar Tree and I gave it a really aggressive look because I had my camera on the table, but I just did that to separate the type of fibers from the macrame cord to make it look a little more bohemian and fringed and once that's complete we'll move on to the frame, like I said I added some dollar tree skewers to this and that will be the piece that we'll hang our earrings from. and these cut very easily with scissors, so I just cut them to size and then attached them with a little hot glue, like I said.
I did another piece in a recently inspired collaboration that was put together by DIY with Amber and I had done something similar. that creation jenny created by Lovelywoman did something similar to this other option and I will have that in the description box below. I added the top skewer and ended up taking it out because I wanted to make sure I had enough

room

to attach it. and I hot glued this macrame piece on top and then I decided to go back and add the skewer so I knew it wouldn't be covered by this piece, but that's the beauty of hot glue, you have time to separate it and come back, so that's what which I did to make sure I had

room

for everything and I use a hot glue from Walmart and it's from Adtech and it really holds up really well.
I know Gorilla Glue is another good option if I'm looking for a good hot glue stick and safe adhesive, but I like ad tech, which is my go-to and holds up very well. I still have this in my room hanging my earrings and I love that it is both. Next up,

, is a ridiculously easy DIY light using a dollar tree planting pot and a piece of wood from Crafter Square, so online they have so many cute and different modern farmhouse sconces, and I knew that I could recreate one using this dollar. olive pot now i left this as is because i love the olive green color.
Anyone else is my favorite and then I took this wooden oval from the craftsman's square section and the first thing I did was take the piece or the side that I'm going to hang this on the wall and flip it, not flip it, bend it, a piece of jute, add a craft stick and a little bit of hot glue, like I always do, just to make sure that I can hang this and that it stays sturdy, and you want to make sure. Make sure your craft stick is cut so you can't see it now, as it has a bit of weight with the light from the puck.
I added two craft sticks just to reinforce it and then on the front I added another craft stick with hot glue. Put that in the center and this is the piece that we're going to hot glue the pot onto just to make sure it stays in place once the hot glue is placed on the oval base. I took one of these LED puck lights from home. tank and this has a sticky part, very easy, super shiny, and I have this on top of my coffee bar and I love how

it is. The next step is a very simple addition to a dollar tree basket, making the dollar tree floral.
The section has baskets of different sizes. I love this square, so super cute. We'll just add a little embellishment to dress it up. Now we grab some of this black paracord from Dollar Tree found in the tools section. I'm going to cut out a piece and weave it together and make an x design as well as some handles for this, as you can see this really works easily, just going through the basket weave type, I cut the piece shorter to make it easier to use. across and like I said I made an x on the front and then I'm going to add a little bit with a little bit of hot glue to make handles on the side once I have the would remain standing. place now for the handles.
I just cut three strands. I looked at this and I tied a knot and then I braided them and I tied a knot on the other side so they were even and then I went ahead and trimmed the ends so they weren't. it looks super frayed, like a little frayed, um and for this I just used my coffee mug and braided it to keep it in place. You can also use a piece of braided ribbon to make it as long as you would like and then I tied the knot on the other side for the handle and did this twice for each of the two handles of our basket, once both handles are done , I'll go ahead and trim the ends of both pieces.
So we can add them to the basket in the next DIY, we will use two of these types of wooden coaster pallets from the dollar tree craft squares section. This is a really quick and easy DIY. I made this recently and I love the way it Turned out for this project you're just going to go ahead and remove the back labels and you're going to attach these two with a little bit of hot glue lining them up and I made them one higher than the other and some hot glue and a craft stick reinforce them just cut them to size so you don't see them sticking out this is what they look like when they are attached now let's turn them over and add some of my favorite things to add from the dollar tree which ones They are these fun tile stickers so I added them and then cut them on the ends to make sure they don't hang and you can also add some hot glue with these but I decided No since this will be on the wall and I'm not going to hang the earrings from the stickers, so I left them with the cling or adhesive they came with and that's it for this project, super quick and easy.
I love how the stickers totally dress up this piece. Next we are going to make a really quick and easy piece, with no painting required except for the stickers, if you want to add that cart that can be functional and used in a craft room, an office or even a kitchen for this project you will need six of these dollar tree wooden pencil holder cubes and I just glued them three together for one side three for the other and then glued all six together for our cart you can stain and paint them but I really like the unfinished wood look so That's what I choose, but it's a totally personal preference.
A small ornament. I grabbed some of the pop up stickers that I also love from Dollar Tree. They come in a large number of colors. I simply painted them black. and then I added these to each side before going ahead and adding our handles. I have many options for handles. You can use dollar tree rope. You can use a thread. You can use the paracord. You can use tape. But I love this faux fur ribbon. so I cut two pieces to size and then added them evenly to each side of our cart with a little hot glue.
You don't want to add too much hot glue because when you press the leather it will show ripples if you use it. a lot of glue so a little bit goes a long way with this and then you're going to go ahead and repeat this on the other side and there you have it. I have my arteza markers here. My girls love to color with them, so this. It's a decorative and functional way to easily store them so my girls can use them and I can use them whenever we want, nothing is more fun and functional than a way to store toilet paper, so I grabbed some of this polyester rope from Dollar Tree.
I think they have a white one too, but I use the black one. We're going to make a really easy way to hang toilet paper, so you're going to grab a peg. This one is from Hobby lobby and I'm just going to put it up and use it. Crochet hook to make a basic chain stitch to make this my hanger. Now I'm making it a little bulkier by using some jute to give it a little more interest, but if you don't know how to crochet, you can also just braid three strands. Whether it's jute or poly rope or thread, whatever you have, but this is a really simple crochet type base stitch.
I'll have the full tutorial, the original tutorial below, but I went ahead and made this to the length I wanted, cut the rope and tied a knot. and that's it, attach it to the peg and it's a really fun and easy way to decoratively store your toilet paper, so once you've knotted the other side it's time to add the peg and you want to make sure you have some storage space. that way. the toilet paper can twist on this and then if you obviously need to add a new roll you will have room for that so I just loosely tied a double knot again so the peg can move and did this on either side and that's it.
Super quick and easy, and it doesn't get more functional than this, inspired by a Pinterest post about a basket lamp. I decided to try it out using some dollar tree baskets, so you'll take two baskets and me. I went ahead and carefully cut the bottom off of one of them that way we can use it as a light. I decided to use one of these dollar tree hanging light types found in the hardware section, so I removed the little hanger and added some. thin macrame cord and this is what I'm going to use to hang our light so this is the thin cord that I bought from hobby lobby.
You can also use twine or twine for this and I cut two pieces the same size, probably around 60 inches. long and then I pass them through that little top piece in the light to have four strands and then for this I'm going to make a very very easy macrame knot, but before we do that, the basket that we didn't cut the bottom We're going to go through this and tie a knot to hold the light and then we're going to take those threads and add them to the top so we can do our macrame stitches to hang this piece of light so you want to start. tying a knot before you start sewing so that everything stays in place.
For this I am going to do a spiral knot which is basically a square knot like I showed before and I will have the full tutorial for a square and spiral knot for You are down in the description box below but all that is aspiral knot is that instead of alternating sides to complete a square knot, you start with one side and keep pulling from that same side and then a spiral forms, so I went ahead and did that. about a quarter of the way up I let the strands be straight and then I tied a square knot to finish it at the top then I just tied a loop so I could use it to hang our light and then you want to make sure you add the battery to this to really make it work and then once we have it, we're just going to carefully glue the two baskets together with hot glue, making sure we don't add too much hot glue so that it leaks out, but it will.
I have time to fix that, if so, and that's it for this super quick and easy Pinterest-inspired basket light, so in a recent video I took some of these wreath charms from Dollar Tree and turned them into Pinterest-inspired coasters. West Elm. These are great. for wreath charms which is their intended purpose but they also make a great canvas for coasters as these have a hole in the top you'll want to make sure you take some putty and fill them in since we're going to use them as coasters and this one I use It comes from the dollar tree and it is the light weight putty for this backlink it only takes a few minutes to dry and then I took my dollar tree sanding sponge to smooth everything out so we are ready to paint these coasters taking this vintage tea rose paint and garnet.
I'm going to take a sponge and just mix the two together, dabbing on the coasters until I get the exact shade I want, making sure all the flowers are covered. I love the way these two colors look together. I'm taking some gold acrylic paint. I just went ahead and drew a line with a brush before sealing them with a mod podge. I normally have trouble with mod podge, but I found this mod podge brush on Hobby lobby and it really makes a difference when adding mod podge on top of whatever you have. We are using it and it makes it much smoother, so if you have problems with Mod Podge like me, I highly recommend it.
If I can get a link I'll add it to the description box, but I got mine from Hobby lobby below. I'm going to make a really fun and easy bow inspired basket. I was inspired by this anthropology basket, but I'm going to show you how to make one using dollar tree items, so for this project I ended up using a dollar tree basket I had. I started wrapping some jute and I guess it was a project I abandoned so we'll give this basket some love since it already had the jute on it. I'm going to add some dollar tree polyethylene twine and hold it down with a little bit. hot glue and just wrap this around the rest of the basket and then I took some jute cord from the dollar tree.
I went ahead and made some tassels. I have made so many tassels on my channel that I love. I'll link a more detailed tassel tutorial below. Just know that when you make tassels with jute, they are a little stiffer and camp a little more, so if you don't want that, then you can use some yarn that Dollar Tree also carries, so once I made my tassels , I strung them with a piece of jute and then we're going to place this in our basket. I wanted mine to look a little more flared, so I took this dollar tree pet brush and just brushed the jute a little. a little bit to make it look a little more bohemian and it's time to glue it on with some hot glue and that's all there is to this super easy boho anthropology inspired basket so now let's grab this dollar tree sign which is actually pretty sturdy, flip it over, I love the design on the side and we're going to make a hanging shelf.
The first thing I did was take some white chalk paint and painted the inside, which is MDF, as well as the bottom so that I don't see the original sign, then we'll take some macrame cord and a metal ring from macramé and we will make a shelf to hang really very easy. Once I cut some cords to size, I cut them to measure approximately 120 inches, I cut four strands. pass them through and then I'm going to do a half point stitch. I believe it's called. I have a tutorial on this so I'll link it below. I think it explains it much better, but I went ahead and did this on the sides. and then I tied everything together with a square knot.
Now, if you don't know any macrame stitches, you can just not do it and just use the threads that are attached at the top and then take them to the bottom of your shelf and tie a knot. they will also hold your type of DIY shelf so I will have a tutorial for this knot that will explain it much more easily and then once I have them done on the side I don't think it's the half hitch knot I'm drawing a blank space now it's been a day, I joined them in the center with that square knot that I showed you at the beginning and middle of this video, so now I looked at the two side pieces that I brought down to connect them. in the front probably about 10 inches or so and I connect them with a square knot.
You want this because this will be the beginning of what holds our shelf about three or four inches down, from the sides we're going to make another one. Square knot on the left and then on the right so that this is what holds our shelf in place. Once those square knots are done on each side, you'll add your shelf and then I used a basic gathering knot for the bottom. but you can also do a basic knot, bundle all the threads together and you'll have a really easy shelf again. If you don't know how to make macrame, this is really an easy project for beginners or you can't tie the macrame knots.
Tie some basic knots and you can hang your shelf next by grabbing a cutting board from Ikea. I added some faux fur ribbon from Dollar Tree. I cut two pieces that are 21 inches long and this is what we are going to use to hang this cutting board as a shelf it is very easy you will take the two pieces you want them shorter in the back and a few shorter in the front because the You will cover and secure this as a hanging shelf and for this I can use nails. I wasn't going to hang anything heavy on this, so I used some dollar tree thumbtacks on the wall.
I adjusted it and pinned it back up. You can also drive in some nails if you are adding heavier things. and that's it for this project, it looks great in a kitchen like the one I have with some spices and this is how it looks as is and it's a great addition to add some spices decoratively to your kitchen or even in a bathroom wash with some essential oils and a dryer ball if you use it, so there are lots of super quick and easy DIY options, which I always love. This is another ikea diy but it can also be made using dollar tree items so on the ikea website I saw that.
They had these kind of wall hangings or pocket hangings for the cork trivets from ikea, so what I'm going to do is add some leather tape. This is actually a tape from the hobby lobby. It doesn't look like it just looks like a roll of leather, but technically they call it tape and it's in the super affordable tape section. I think it costs 4.99. It goes on sale often. I've had to use this on other functional DIYs as well, but we're going to cut some pieces to size, trace them, and add. There must be small pockets on these trivets for them to be functional.
Now I'm going to cut out my piece and then I'm going to trace where I need to make the cut so that it goes with the round shape of the trivet and then we'll join them together with some. hot glue so now you want to leave some square pieces on the side because you need something to wrap around the back of this so you have it secure and you have enough room to add things to your pocket and I like add a craft stick with a little bit of hot glue just to reinforce this and make sure it stays in place for the next set of trivets.
I'm going to use these decorative knobs from Dollar Tree, leave them as is, I think they're fun and looky. nice against the cork and then I'm going to use the screws that come just to secure them. This is very easy through the cork, but you must use the small screws that come with it to keep it in place. In fact, use this to hang whatever you want. They come in a pack of three and I used another roll in this kind of camel color from the hobby lobby to do the same thing we did with the first one.
Now I'm using them in my craft room to hang brushes and things like that, so I would definitely use them for light things, you can even use them in the bathroom, maybe put makeup brushes or Q-tips on them or use them in an office to put something So. like stationery, so you have a few options with these, but to hang them I'm using again that faux leather ribbon from Dollar Tree that I've used, as you can see here, on a lot of my projects that I've only been able to get my hands on. three rolls and I've used them on many projects so they really come in handy.
I glue them on with a little hot glue and a craft stick like I usually do and I love how fun and functional they are. To grab three of these decorative boxes from Dollar Tree and go ahead and use a Dollar Tree sanding sponge to sand off all the glitter, since we're going to be spray painting them once all the glitter is off, it's going to take a little bit of paint on matte black spray with oleum oxide. I'm going to spray paint them inside, outside, sides, I even did the back so everything is covered. Once that's covered, I'm going to go ahead and add some stencils to these on top just to add some nice decoration. touch I like to do when I'm done stenciling if I feel like it's not opaque enough I come back with a matching marker this is an arteza oil marker and then I fill it all in so it looks even and opaque it's time to attach everything with a little bit of hot glue so I went ahead and glued the sides together with a little bit of hot glue to hold everything together and then we're going to reinforce it with a craft stick and hot glue on the back.
Now I thought they would be great as a little type of decoration. spice organizer um, but you can really use anything with these, you can add flowers, you can add um, like cotton swabs for a bathroom, you can add beads for the craft room, so many different options, these can also be a great holder for essential oils. Next, we'll take four of these dollar tree craftsman square section slates. We'll remove the little bracket, glue them together, and create a really fun and functional command center to put them together. I'm going to grab craft sticks and warm up.
Put glue on the seams first and then place some more on top in a vertical direction so everything stays in place before turning it over and adding some stickers to this piece. Now you can leave this as is, but I love adding gemstone stickers from Dollar Tree. So that's what I'm going to do with this piece with the border, so I went ahead and painted some of these black. You can paint them directly on the back, they dry very quickly and are a great way to get the look and color you want. If you want very colorful stickers or maybe not your style, these gemstone stickers are great because they come on an adhesive strip and are very easy to cut by hand and move around the corners, so I went ahead and bordered this with those stickers and then I added one. of the tile stickers in the center of this piece since I have a cricut I went into design space and cut out some different stickers but if you don't have a cricut you can leave this as is and just write with your chalk but this It's a really fun way to dress this up and make it really fun and functional.
Next, we're going to take this little decorative house that actually has a light and we're going to make this a really quick and easy decorative remote control holder. Let's say remote control, some people say computer remote control clicker or controller, whatever else, so this has a very nice light, but I'm going to cover that because I don't need it for the light, but it would be very nice as a functional. the night light was just painted or left as is so for this I went ahead and just gave it some gray chalk paint and it's like pewter color and I also went ahead and added some of those gemstone stickers to this just to dress it up a little.
Once the stickers were applied, I used the insert from one of these little drawer pieces from Dollar Tree. You can hot glue it to the back and you'll have a really fun and easy way to decoratively store a remote. Technically, this isn't a Dollar Tree, but it was. really easy to make, I made a West Elm inspired plant stand now, if you go to the West Elm website you type in plant stand, they are very expensive so you could make it and I've seen people use like I think the tree of the dollar, what is a paper towel? leg supports, you could use those or you can go to Amazon and get a heavy duty four leg pack for under $20 or around $20,so it's a little bit more than a dollar tree, but it's really sturdy, just as good quality. like you'll get at west elm, but much cheaper, so these are the hairpin legs I used.
I will have them in the description box below. I picked up this piece of wood stack, it was 9.99 at the hobby lobby and even though they don't make it. I got the coupon, they run sales on the wood pieces, I think 4.99 and up so I waited so I had 50 off. I got it and then I had my husband attach these hairpin legs, I used three of them and he just drilled them into the end of this piece so it cost me about 25 to make compared to the ones I was looking for on the West Elm website for over a hundred dollars, which is crazy, so like I said, I only used three of these, they come in a four pack, but I feel like all three seemed a little more modern and, So far, these drills are really easy and this is a super sturdy western elm on a budget.
I finally found some of these floating shelves from Dollar Tree so I wanted to go ahead and make this. It's more my style, so these have a little bit of a shine to them, so I took a dollar tree sanding sponge and roughed it up a little so that the paint that I'm going to use will adhere better to this once everything is sanded. I'm going to go ahead and add some of those tile stickers that I like. I ended up using some hot glue for these. I found that they just didn't stick well to the shelf even though I sanded them, so once I added these stickers, I'm then going to go ahead and paint over them.
I wanted this to look like a very light washed wood, so I went ahead and grabbed some apple barrel. To use? Warm polish paint and I applied two coats of this before drying. Brushing, this was a really easy way to make this look a little more neutral and give it more of something like a light washed wood instead of the way it came and then once everything dried I took some paint of white Adirondack chalk. and then you don't dry spray paint and brush on the stickers as well as on the sides and on the top of this piece and that's how it looks simple and this is also a great mini shelf or you can also use it next to a sink to store soap.
Like me the project is oldie but goodie so for this one is a really easy plant stand, you will take any sign or type of cut wood you have at Hobby lobby but you can use a dollar tree sign. and I took this arteza burnt umber paint and I went ahead and gave it a good coat to cover all the unfinished wood and taking some macrame cord you can also use some nautical rope from Dollar Tree and apparently I was on the phone with my dad while filming this. You're going to get hot. Glue a border around this piece and taking some wooden beads to act as the legs of this plant stand, you will turn it around and attach them with a little hot glue and that's all there is to this decorative plant stand. really quick and easy plants.
You can also add a candle to this or add soap in the bath. There are many different options for this, so here is a really easy functional way to hang your coffee mugs. For this project I used a dollar tree along the MDF sign. I went ahead and painted. I did it with some apple barrel black paint and then I went into the qriket design space and cut this out in the morning when I wake up give me a Jesus and coffee decal which I then added to the painted mdf and then I had some of these mug hooks in my laundry room. space so I added them evenly at the bottom and it is a very easy and functional way to store your coffee mugs and I used a sawtooth hanger piece on the back to hang this sign.
I shared this recently, but I made this adventure await the hanging bear sign. Recently, it was very easy to combine some dollar tree hooks from a sign and some other type of decorative pieces to make this not only decorative but also functional, so I bought these triangle pieces a while ago from the dollar tree and went ahead , I was going to remove them, no. I removed the labels from these, I used the back as the front since when I removed the original paper they got a little rough, so we're going to remove the hangers, remove the labels and then go ahead and paint them. black and then taking some light putty, we're going to fill in the holes on this bear I bought this last year and I occasionally see it on my dollar tree.
It's super cute and I wanted to make this more of an adventure with a forest theme. piece similar to what you would see in the hobby lobby, so I wanted to fill in those holes before painting this piece and once the putty was dry, I went ahead and added some brown acrylic paint to paint and cover the words on the bear. and once the paint was dry, I took some white chalk paint and just dry applied it to give it a little warmer look. Taking my arteza white acrylic marker, I went ahead and added something like snowy peaks to these mountains and I did two coats of this just so everything would stay opaque.
I used my cricut joy and made it as a writable vinyl sticker that says adventure awaits you. You can definitely leave this as is. You can use a stencil or transfer, but I thought it looked really cute. I loved how it looked against the grizzly bear, it just gave it a nice touch, so once I added that I went in with the second layer on top of our little mountains before attaching everything, once everything is flipped and lined up , I'm going to grab some hot glue and craft sticks and reinforce this. I did this in the bottom middle because this is where the bear will cover it so you won't see, then some hot glue to the bear in the center and off we go.
To attach it to the front before we go ahead and add our hooks, I've used them before in some previous DIYs, but I grabbed some of the hooks from these little dollar tree signs. These are actually very sturdy so I just unscrewed them and held the nail in and then screwed them back into our piece so I love when Dollar Tree has different glass bozes. These were really pretty. I bought them in the fall, but I've seen them since then, so I love when they have them. I love adding flowers. seasonally I always make imitations because I can't keep anything alive.
I'm at home so I'm going to show you how I added some spray paint to these to dress them up. I chose super quick and easy matte black spray paint. It dries quickly and I love how modern they look. Taking one of these wooden cutouts is the cactus with the stand. I'm going to take this really pretty floral scrapbook paper for the hobby lobby, trace this and then we'll add this to this cactus. firm to make this a fun little hair bow holder, so I'm going to line it up with the holder and then I like to trace this on the edge of a table or hold it up so I can get the exact lines before cutting and then to apply, I'm going to take some spray adhesive, let it sit for a second, and then I'm going to add our scrapbook paper, one of these little one pound weight limit hooks from Dollar Tree.
I'm going to spray black paint with some 97 Walmart spray paint and then that's what we're going to add to the center of our piece and like I said, I thought this is a really cute way to add some headbands so decorative that we can now see in my girls' rooms. Taking one of these dollar tree square wreath shapes, I'm going to wrap some of this black poly rope and we're going to make a really easy, modern looking cork board, so I went ahead and wrapped this and I didn't . At first wrap it around the corners. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them, but I went back and added this to the corners.
It adds a little bulk and takes a little time to wrap it all up but that's okay, I lied, I actually used cord with wire, this actually stayed on now that I remember this project much better than poly twine, it stays in place and this is burlap fabric, but you can also buy wired cord at craft stores to To make this a cork board, I used two of these sticky cork sheets from Dollar Tree. I just cut one of them a little shorter so they would fit and then added them to a piece of foam board from Dollar Tree so they would have something sturdy to hold on to.
