20 Best DOLLAR TREE DIY High End Crafts of 2020!Jun 01, 2021
hey everyone thanks so much for tuning in so for todays video i am sharing 20 of my top 20 favorite diys these are all
treediys and i will be sharing the original links below so let's go ahead and get started and let's be which one do you think should be number one, starting with number 20. I'm going to use this plastic serving tray from Dollar Tree. You can find this in the party section and they have tons of different styles. Now I want to try and get this. a terracotta colored folk art has this really pretty village color but I've been using warm caramel rust-oleum now you're going to paint the inside and outside and with some
treenautical rope I'm going to start laying it down the lip so I'm going to do this on the outside first and then work my way to the inside once I get to the inside I'm going to add two little handles using the same string look how beautiful this is and also super simple you can't even say this is a dollar tree serving tray for number 19 i am using this little dollar tree votive glass i am also going to use some beads i had left over but you can use the dollar tree beads they have different styles but i like it I use the unfinished ones a lot because they come in the same size and some dollar tree floral wire so I'm going to start stringing some beads and this will be enough to cover the part bottom and top which is 27 beads and then I'm going to twist that around the cut Take it down with some side cutters or pliers and make sure the point is really tucked in there so you don't get hurt and I did two of those now I'm going to take another piece of wire and I'm going to put it on a random bead I'm going to twist it and I'm going to start stringing some more beads and this will be the length of my jar so for everyone it will be a little different depending on how you do it. i want it i'm going to thread it on the top row and then place it on my beads now that that's all n there and i've twisted it i've decided i want to add a row every 7th bead so i'm going to do the exact same thing until that makes my way so once I finish one row I go Forward crisscross it with the other counting down seven and nesting it in the middle where they meet and doing the same thing over and over until I'm done so mathematically there is no no reason i made every seven accounts except you. you can go ahead and take the number of beads you have and divide them by an even number if you want something a little more concrete each new row i'm making i'm crisscrossing in the middle and making it join where i started my original beads now you can add a handle.
I didn't choose to add one to mine because I'm going to be burning candles on this, but this is Michael's original and this is mine for number 18 that I'm going to use. this dollar tree cylindrical vase you can find it in the flower section i am also going to use this michaels r paper you can get them for 79 cents or you can print something from your computer but this is a 12 by 12 using a mod podge from dollar tree. I'm going to start brushing it inside and out and you'll see why so when I start to add my paper I'm going to work and make sure it's nice and straight with no air bubbles and then when I get to the top, I'm going to create some notches with scissors and this is going to make my life a lot easier by getting a nice clean edge instead of cutting it I'm just tucking it in so you don't want to put water on this this is more for faux floral this is the michaels and here's mine number 17 i use this dollar tree plunger but of course you can skip the plunger and get a wrist bar you don't have to use the whole dollar tree i unscrew the bottom and you can go ahead and cut it, but i left it alone to give it a little more length.
Now what I'm going to do is leave. To use some beads you can use the dollar tree ones as I mentioned they have different styles and colors and some come in the same size especially the hair ones but I think Amazon is much cheaper use a tapestry needle and thread or string. to snap the beads into place, this makes life so much easier, but if you don't have a dollar tree of tapestry needles in the hair section, you have sewing needles for wigs and weaving, you can use that too, they come in different styles when i made this i think i did a row of 60 40 and 20 to get a staggered look but you can make it as big or as small as you want with a little cord loop on top to make it easier to hang and with a dollar tree hula skirt, which of course is a summer item, you can go ahead and wear this or you can macrame some dollar tree yarn onto twine.
I did this because it was a short cut and I really like the way it looks against the natural beads. I also went ahead and added. tassels to mine i had tassels from a chandelier with dollar tree tassels that i created years ago so i placed them randomly as you can see there's the chandelier and now i'm just going to straighten the bottom to give it a shape of v you can either leave it as is or you can do what I'm doing and I just use a yardstick or a dowel rod to help you cut this in a straight line number 16 is use these little trowels on the square crafter section of the tree of the dollar now I'm going to line them up if you don't I don't want to waste the money on this you can use some stir sticks from Lowe's or Home Depot but I'm going to go ahead and use these.
I'm going to use my square tool to straighten them out and some dollar tree glue. these are nice and thick so using the glue won't seep through on the front but make sure you have a protective layer on the bottom so now that it's nice and straight I'm going to add some popsicle sticks in the middle pieces just to make this more secure I won't add it to the part where they have separates because you'll be able to see it but those pieces that make the two palettes come together are definitely a great place to add them in the middle as well and I flipped it over as well some of the paper that was stuck to the glue so i'm going to use a dollar tree sanding sponge to remove all of that you can use an orbital sander if you have one but this is the easiest way if you don't have a tool like so which I am now going to use these dollar tree push pins.
You can find them in the office section or back to school section. I punched these out of old cardboard and gave them a coat of spray paint and now I'm going to use a drill to create little holes where I want them. now I bookmarked this beforehand. I put them on using a little bit of glue on the tip just so it stays in place or else it will fall off. I added this dollar tree house sign of course you can customize your own but I love the color because I wanted a nautical look I added a dollar tree anchor let it dry and this is what I got with number 15 , i am using another vase of course you can find it in the flower section and it will basically be a larger version of the little cups i created they are supposed to be like moroccan lanterns so i cut make a design and i am going to spray it lightly with water on the back so I relax the paper add it in the middle you can add a little bit of spray but I just added more water make sure it's straight and you want some gold puffy paint the one I have already has one tip just make sure you constantly clean the tip on a piece of paper because you don't want this to blow up your design and take your time you can also freehand if you want this to be what it looks like let it dry completely because you don't want m scoop it up once it's dry get some dollar tree mod podge and add it to a bowl, mug, whatever you have food coloring of your choice in so you can mix a nice color and water you want this to be liquid It's not very runny but runny enough that you can get it all over the vase or jar you are using so it will start to swirl take your time with this because you don't want any air bubbles until you get to the bottom and everything is covered , let it spill into your glass if you want to make another one or if you want to do something smaller then add this upside down to the foil so it can keep dripping if any spots are missing just pour put back a little and do the same if not have another item you want to tint you can use the original mod podge bottle and just pour your mixture back in so you can use it for later use every once in a while pick up your vase and wipe the rim because it's going to drip when it looks completely dry bake it face up on a baking sheet you are going to bake it at 200 degrees for about 20 to 30 minutes and let it cool in the oven this is what it looks like and oh my god im in love with number 14 and one One of the smallest e, but one of the biggest transformations is using this dollar tree pineapple.
It's in the summer section. I'm going to remove all the tinsel and take it apart. pointy stuff and then I'm going to take the top apart I'm also going to layer it this beautiful almond color of krylon and with a hula skirt or you can also use raffia but the hula skirt is so much neater I'm just going to tape this down so it doesn't move and then I'll start creating little braids. You are done with each braid. Flood the bottom with some hot glue and now it's time to put it back together. I also reassembled with hot glue. and every time i cut i flood the end with a little bit of hot glue as well and i'm going to cover each of those little rows and a little bit more it's up to you if you want to cover them all or add more but once you move just add the part pineapple top and i use this dollar tree led candle just look what a difference the number 13 makes i am going to use this pizza pan you can find it in the dollar tree kitchen section remove the label and now with this paper that i bought at michaels again it's like 79 cents i'm just going to try to cut this as round as possible and then i'm going to modify it on the back you can modify the podget on the front i like the way it looks better on the back and once I had it in place I'm going to use an x-acto knife to get a more precise cut to cover that edge I'm using dollar tree nautical rope and I'm going to start hot gluing it I turned around .
I did this twice I think and once it was all the way around I created handles using some dollar tree floral wire and beads so I'm going to tuck the ends in until I have this little curly piece. inserting my beads and I'm going to crimp the other end and hot glue them in place you can also hook these in or e60 00 to make the string look a little neater take a lighter and quickly run it over this you don't want to hold it up too much time and then you can secure your beads in place, I use thinned down brown paint to darken them a bit. but you can use any color you want and this is what you get with number 12 I'm going to use raffia from Dollar Tree I unrolled a bundle and tied a small knot at the top I cut off the excess raffia then taped it to a table, you can also secure it in a drawer to get a nice straight braid all the way, you can either tie the end off or flood it with hot glue, it's totally up to you, I use these bucks.
The tree mirrors keep in mind that they come in two different sizes and I painted it the closest color I could to the raffia and turned around. I think I used maybe two braids for this or three so I just layered the whole thing over and then I use these dollar tree wood picks that you can find in the party section I cut some of them down and then started layering them on this is one of the easier
craftsand it doesn't look like it came from the dollar store at all number 11 and it's actually a bonus craft because I'm going to take that tray I used earlier remove the handles and on the back I'm going to add a little bit of string so i can hang this now i want it to be really secure so i'm adding e6000 and hot glue but if i had to do this beforehand i probably would have drilled two holes and basically tied the handle in place.
I have a tutorial on how I made this with wire once, but I made this craft after the fact, so once it's really dry, I'm going to grab that same mirror. which we just made which I think was number 12 and then I'm going to hot glue an e6000 in place and this instantly makes your mirror look bigger and more interesting so you're combining two
craftsin case you get tired of them and look how beautiful this number 10 looks and it is one of the most practical and one of the videos that actually went viral in tick tock.
I'm going to use these little dollar tree boxes that are in the square section of the crafter and some dollar tree wood glue and I'm going to attach the two together now I'm going to clamp put them in place and for this I just use the clips from the dollar tree binder let it dry really well I usually let it dry overnight though that's not necessary and I make sure it's really dry before proceeding so with these dollar tree rules you don't have to use this but this is what I use remove those little plastic tabs and then I'm going to cut this to fit thewidth of each box to have a little shelf, so I scored it with a little Sharpie and then cut this out using my mini saw or a regular saw.
You're going to add glue to the sides. You can also add some hot glue to make it stay in place to make sure it's nice and straight now. because we are not wasteful i used the end of the ruler that i cut off and i am going to make a ignition stand for the back so for this i used an old picture frame that had one of these little things that i had ripped off before it was an e6000 and put it up with hot glue it in place and i made sure where you're adding it you're going to have a little bit of slack to this now you're going to e6000 on hot glue i realized i just use hot glue but make sure you're using like wood glue or something like this you can skip this step and just mount it on the wall but now you have a place to display your glasses or any number nine tiny item.
I'm going to use these canvases from Dollar Tree. You'll find them in the crafters square section and if you don't have one, usually in the small arts and crafts. the section that has the dollar tree will have the canvases. I removed the actual part of the canvas and now you can cover this with free stir sticks from walmart lowe's wherever i'm going to use jumbo paddles because i didn't have enough stir sticks but i did. i know they will provide it for free so i am using wood glue you can use whatever wood glue you want to add and i left a little space in between nothing too noticeable but just make sure you space this out before you secure it in place flip it over and let it dry on a safe surface and now i am going to work on my beads you can use dollar tree beads you can use amazon beads you can use whatever you want if you are going to use the dollar tree ones make sure you are getting all the same size and put them on a skewer and paint them if you want a specific color.
I kept this as natural wood so what I'm going to do is go ahead and use my Amazon accounts and make everything one size now I'm going to put them up. on a skewer and I'll keep them on a skewer so they're nice and straight so this is for the 10 inch frame part. I made two of these and they both have 20 beads for each eight inch section I used. 14 beads for each side. I'm going to cut off the end of the skewer and then I'm going to start to secure it in place. You can add a little. some wood glue to keep the beads from shifting.
I removed one bead and then used hot glue to place the other bead on top that way the skewer doesn't stick out at all and did this with all four to secure the beads in place. on the edge of your frame using your method of choice either hot glue or wood glue a combination of both and now you'll want to take your extra frame that you removed the canvas from and you'll want to place that on top of it make sure when you do this it's nice and straight you can stain this you can paint this i just did a white wash to make it look a little aged so i grabbed a dollar tree brush and some paint and just did random strokes now here's the michaels original which is much larger and here is mine number eight i am using these craft sticks from the dollar tree you can use the thick ones you can use the thinner ones and i am going to put this on a stove with some water and i am going to do let it boil so I'm making more sticks than I think I need because some of these will break when I try to bend them so make sure you wear gloves when you pull this out and I'm going to grab a dollar tree vase. and then when I take it out, I'll fold it over and then push it into the vase, making sure it's straight, if it does crack, that's why we made the extra ones, but always do more than you need. btw i'm wearing heat mitts under my oven mitts i just didn't want to get them wet so make sure you wear something to protect your hands from the heat now let it dry really good i mean two or three days well you don't want to let it be wet because it will lose its shape and now I'm going to start shaping it like facing each other to make a little lantern shape.
I use this little dollar tree frame that I found. in the square section of the crafter and basically took it apart I used two of these to create the top and bottom o If my lantern now I'm going to start hot gluing opposite each other you can score these in place if you want. I use those little black hooks as a guide. You can also use wood glue, but I wanted an instant hold. to make sure you're constantly checking if the top piece aligns with the bottom with how you're placing your sticks and then rearrange them however you see fit, that's why I like to use the hot glue now that I was a short popsicle stick, so I should have done a little more than I thought I did, but when I was done I hot glued the top piece in place and then went on and made a little beaded handle using the same method I've used all along. all these tutorials and i gave it a coat of brown gouache paint number seven is an extra craft because it's basically the same thing in a different format.
I'll leave the original video below but I didn't want to add it here because it's the same now number six I'm using the dollar tree raffia and I'm just going to do the same method as before, tie off the top, cut off the excess then glue tape it to a table and braid all the way down depending on how thick you make your braids, that will depend on how many to make in a dollar tree pizza pan. I'm going to take my braid and start rolling it out of the mold first so I can get it right in the middle and then I'm going to get it in the middle and start rolling. making sure the ends are tucked in so it looks neat and i'm going to do this until i cover the inside and some of the outside as well and start moving my rope up making sure it's nice and straight so i created a little basket and for this I used three braids total and tucked them in so it looks nice and straight with some Dollar Tree paper towel holders.
I'm going to cut this. This was tough, so if you have better supplies, awesome. if not, my husband helped me with this, I'm going to take some raffia and this is very time consuming, but it's worth it in the end. I'm going to fold it forward making sure they all have the same curve and then with some raffia I'm going to start tying it off at one end. and then just wrap it around wrapping this neatly in raffia totally changes the look you can hardly tell these are paper towel holders or napkin rings so now once I've made my way I'm going to flip my pizza pan.
I'm going to lay these on top and mark them and then I'm going to take some glue and secure this in place use your choice of glue you can use e6000 you can use super glue whatever you want once it's dry this is what it looks like and I regret not having made this number one, number five is a plus because I took the same top piece and just added handles to it. I'll leave the original below, but look how beautiful this number four looks. I use these DIY woods. dollar tree frames these are a summer item i took it apart and got out those little hook things and now i'm going to grab a dollar tree vase that you can find in the flower section and what i'm going to do is use some of the dollar tree glue, add a bit to my border and then place it however you like. to make sure that that little flat piece is flush with the bottom so it doesn't look so weird and when you're hot gluing the top it's nice and straight the dollar tree has these wooden dowels but if you don't got so bamboo skewers work just as well mark your wood and cut it and when you cut this you can do it with a mini saw you can do it with a hand saw they sell at the dollar tree always make more than you need and with something Dollar Tree Wood Glue.
I'm going to secure this in place. You can do a combination of wood glue and hot glue. weight on top and the next day I take it off and cover it all up with some watered down brown paint because lately I've been avoiding stains so you want to cover all this up if you want to make your life easier sand everything down before you put it together to make it look nice and even when completely dry I added some nautical rope on top. i used the brown simply because it holds its shape, the white becomes flexible so i just added hot glue in each corner for projects like this, i always recommend using LED candles vs real candles because you don't want accidents and look how unique this number looks three and probably one of my most recreated crafts of
I'm using these table tennis balls from Dollar Tree. You can find them in the toy section and sometimes you can find them in random end caps right where you see them. small seam you can go ahead and use a drill make sure you press down before you start drilling so it doesn't slip or you can use the end of a hot glue gun a fancy hot skewer on the cheap recreated this and she used I think Eva a hot skewer so if you don't have a drill use that skewer all the way and tap off a little bit of the excess and now we're going to put this on a skewer so it's easier to paint and I spray painted . this is a beautiful almond color that i had used on the pineapples before so i'm going to spray paint it doing it in very very light layers you can put this on a cardboard or whatever you want and make it look even more real just blend the combination of brown paints and dry brush them to make them look like real wood and remove some of that shine for the crown part.
I used these 3d dollar tree crown shapes and took them apart and with pliers I cut them out. the middle so I can start making loops on my ping pong balls but I'm going to remove those little hooks and just make sure they're nice and flat so no one gets hurt so when I put these on I'm going to make sure that all the seams are facing the same direction now for the bottom I'm going to take some floral tape wrap it around so I have a place to add my floral and then at the end of those beads I'm going to add a chunky amount so that do not move during the spring.
The dollar tree has a ton. of foliage but I'm using greenery that I had from a Michael's tote bag and I'm going to secure it in place using the same floral tape, the floral tape is also from Dollar Tree and now I'm going to add some flowers that I also had in my tote bag. surprises a combination of dollar tree so these are the dollar tree roses and then I added some tulips from Michael's number two grab bag it's a bonus because it's the same wreath just uses that beautiful warm caramel color and different greenery and flowers from dollar tree and michaels and just changing the color definitely changes the look and style for number one i am going to take a pizza pan this is so easy but one of my favorites now i am going to take a sanding sponge and I'm going to sand everything down so the paint The hat I'm going to add to this sticks and won't flake over time trust me take your time with this because this will make sure it lasts so now I'm going to give it a coat of Fusion White, you can paint this any color you like, but I love how white and natural wood looks, so make sure you let it dry before flipping it over and doing the other side.
The key to most of these crafts is to have a little patience, so now the next day once. all this is nice and dry. I'm going to move on to making the border for this and for this I use the dollar tree wood snakes. go ahead and cut off the tail and head now you want to cut that way instead of the long way to make it easier for you to cut. I'm using that little saw from Dollar Tree which isn't the
bestfor but for this. works perfectly now save them because i will link the original video below with the tails.
I make this really cool. l little table riser or candle riser whatever you want to call it so all the videos will be linked below now you're going to narrow it down to 22 because that's the middle ground and you're going to make your cut there now that you have that cut use these dollar tree rubber bands you can use whatever rubber band you have and this will help me hold the shape while it dries so I'm just going to clip it on the bottom and end up clipping it somewhere make sure you sand the bottom if you have a orbital sander that would be much better but if not dollar tree sanding sponge works too so just keep placing your rubber band where you see fit and once that's done you can move on to placing them on the tray before securing make sure that you are spacing them accordingly because you will need to leave a little space depending on whether you are using a dollar tree pizza pan or one that you have saved up and is a bit larger this is where i want it spaced you can use a little marking but i am going to do a mix of glue and hot glue make sure it dries really well overnight and check how sturdy they are if anyof them is loose after the next day. just repeat the process remove the hot glue and do this all over again and then go ahead and remove the rubber bands and oh my gosh check this out I really hope you enjoyed this video let me know which one you would have picked as number one and As usual, thanks so much for looking.
I appreciate you sticking with me through
2020and I hope we have a great 2021 together. Thanks so much for looking and I hope to see you at the next one.
