Jun 01, 2021
Good morning everyone, Victor and I have Brookie on the boat with me and she's breaking out her donut for sunrise. There is a local donut shop, Dandy Donuts Fire Station and

this

morning we brought some donuts on the boat. We got up really early trying to

catch

gears and blue runners and the goggles. I wasn't that simple, we only have one, but we have a decent amount of blue runners. I'll show you guys in a second. They are all there. We have a good number of blue runners. Actually we are. Trolling like the beach area with really big semi cays.

ing slowly and I saw it was like Brooke Brooke Brooke there's a seal there's a sail I saw it coming across the wave when you get this They swell up like this they just ride on the waves to save energy and we had two blue runners.

More Interesting Facts About,

why nobody eats this fish catch clean cook sailfish kola fish...

I stopped the boat and got the blue runner very close and sure enough the sail was right over it. These are a really large and powerful pelagic

fish

. Huge tails, you will see it when we bring it to the boat. Oh, they might be jumping again. I have never wanted to

catch

a

sailfish

so much in my life since I set out the fact that I wanted to catch a

sailfish

. hooking into the universe it's like they just eluded us or they were all undersized but this one seems to be big so let's chase this sailfish a little bit he's going to run quite a bit I think he'll be a bigger one sometimes , that each selfish has its own personality, sometimes you can catch it from a dead end, although other times they just want to throw hundreds of meters of line.

You know, when we were drifting before, there were two boats right next to us, both flying kites and that's what most people do here to catch sailfish, you've seen us do it too and a hooked boat caught there's another boat snagged caught his and I'm like what the hell are we doing wrong instead of it being a matter of being in the right place at the right time so today we have a west wind and it's always very hard to tell how hard It's on camera, but it's not hard, it's actually very bouncy, these waves are huge like there are probably nine foot waves, but they don't.
why nobody eats this fish catch clean cook sailfish kola fish
You don't feel hard because they're very dry and you're slowly rolling over them, but it's one of those days when you can see a boat and a swell comes in and then disappears, that's when you know it's pretty big despite what's going on. the YouTube screen looks big out there, so when I saw the sailfish, I literally saw them with their sail on and they were just riding the waves, especially when there are little cold fronts like this one, that come from the north to the south and use those waves to save energy and simply to migrate a lot.
Wow, this is probably one of the most stubborn sails they've ever fought. Watch those head movements and walk around to see the rod tip. It's him shaking his big head with his beak like this. I'm almost 100% sure the sailfish is hooked on the tail. I can feel every beat of his tail and that's because my main connection to him is in his tail so it's going to get a little interesting and that's why I can't turn his head at all. because I can't pull that way: by the tail of it it sounds weird, so when I finished the Costa Rica tournament last February with Jennifer Glen, a couple of our egoists fell like this and instead of just trying to fight straight. up and down, which takes a lot of time, they would move away from the fish, which would make their line higher and then they would pull the fish out and I would lift it up and they would have to do it a couple of times to finally get the fish to come up and that it's what I'm doing so you guys always have to pay attention when they go fishing with other people so they learn new tricks so I got away from them for a while and now Victor has stepped up and is coming back up.
I just landed the sailfish from about a hundred feet of water down there. he's hooked on the tail just what we thought. It's big, it's big, it's not the right one, so he looks in line for you to want. okay, so let's make bricks, let's grab the camera rod, try to grab a microphone, put it sideways in the boat, God, that's a big one, eat, it's complicated, adult, this was a nightmare, really, look at this. The hook didn't come out. He was hooked on the tail. These fish are one of the fastest fish in the ocean.
I think they might be the fastest fish, so sometimes they hit it so fast that they actually miss the bait. Yes, it wasn't coming off. Look. Plus, it's hard for the hooks to be that sharp, here we go, I'll tell you what went inland. No, this is what I wanted to say. We have let go of 99% of our sailfish, this being the exception. I have caught dozens of sailfish and always released them, this is the only one we really wanted to try for fishing and

cook

ing so keep that in mind for your guys comments so they like to say again that you know this fish you see how brown and discard. his tone mmm he probably wouldn't have survived if we had let him go and there is nothing you can do, you hook them in the tail, you are literally dragging them backwards, you can't drag a pelagic fishing backwards, the water needs to pass their gills like this that this one would have come out dead anyway you see that I brought it in the boat and it is lifeless you see us bringing fish in the boat all the time moving like crazy this thing has not moved since we brought it in the boat and so overall these fish are absolutely beautiful this guy is all brown because he's just not doing very well they have to be 63 inches to keep him this guy is exactly 69 inches so six inches over the legal limit from the end of the lower jaw to the lower jaw to the middle of the tail, so 69 inches right there, the lower jaw, freeze frame two five seconds ago, what the sailfish looked like when you take pelagic fish and put them in the boat, they tend to lose their color when you square them, see how As much as this sailfish color has come back, you can see their vans, their sail and the spots, the blues and the purples, if you ever want good selections, always squirt your fish before of taking them and brings them back to life with salt water of course well guys after seven failed trips trying to make this video a reality it finally happened and we are going home with a sailfish so I see you on the ticket plane when Victor tries to take a photo with him holding it.
It was like it was heavy, so while we were running I saw something really big that was making a lot of splashes and it's these guys, we often find them off the coast while dolphin fishing and we've had them travel. with the boat for about 45 minutes to an hour before, but I think they have to be in a good mood, they will literally swim under your boat for forty-five minutes an hour, we have seen huge shoals shore, they are doing it since this guy is so big it barely fit in the cooler. What I'm going to do is cut off the head, take out the guts, cut off the tail a little bit, I can really freeze that fish. lower their core temperature because I couldn't do it properly to light the flame so I started here around the head around the fin PEC going down here through the throat and we just want to eliminate this and these extremely bloody guys like all the big pelagic fish they'll come from this side too, just follow any soft part of the head you can, you can hear that chiropractor feeling, you know, I always like to inspect the anatomy of a fish and everything about sailfish is all about speed , maneuverability and maintenance. the streamlines see these fins right here if you need them you can tuck them in it has a little groove here along the bottom of them the same with that big sail they'll keep they'll take that big sail inside them like Well I never knew that that did that, so I want to remove all these guts and organs just because I don't want to, since it's going to be a big process to skin this thing, there's no need to ruin the meat or just contaminate it. with all these things, look at these huge organs, okay, so we have the core of the sailfish, if you want to mention that in the cooler heads, we removed a good chunk of the tail, now one of our favorite parts of these videos is to check his stomach and me.
I think it will be a complete pipefish or not, right? What is that wow you are really digesting? Comment below what you think it is. Is it a flying fish? A huge flying fish. The only reason I said garfish is because I saw. the tail really long i don't know what it is that's its big look its skeleton was so long it looks like it has some big bones there are more wings comment below guys what do you think it is so the sailfish doesn't really have teeth but its mouth and brill are super abrasive, it's like sandpaper, it's like hundred grit sandpaper and they have to swallow things whole, so when they eat the bait, they swim very fast and try to shove it down their throat and I think that's one of the reasons. reasons.
They hooked it on the tail because they are so fast that they often look like a nasty hook, but honestly, for a fish that big, they don't have that big of a mouth, but they can fit huge things in there. and they use this bill to stun their baits Pierce um, they go up on schools of bait like schools of sardines, flying fish, they cut them up and hurt them, it's a really cool way they were designed in the wild, it's a food, it's cool to see how much the fish weigh. has changed during the process, going from brown to silvery gray, so I'm going to use a Dexter 8-inch curved sportfishing knife.
I'll link it below and go from head to tail. and we're just going to outline this sailfish, this is the longest knife stride I've ever taken on a fish, I'm telling you now we're going to get to the back of the sail, okay, so you gotta be careful, I actually got on it al The other side of the spine is there because it's a very big fish, but I'm going to get to the other side of the spine. Here I'm just running my knife all over the other side, on the back side. look what we're working with before.
Wow, there is a lot of meat, so they have a very thick back. I didn't think they would have such a thick backbone, so we took both sides of the sailfish out of a fish that was very uncomfortable to fly. I should have done it in sections, if I ever do another one I definitely won't do it for the entire flight, it's too much to work with, oh my god Brooke look at this, it's the biggest catfish I've ever seen in my life. Shallow depth of water in your canal look at them, they're going to go that way, you're ready, keep it in the water, keep it, oh my God, look at all that, yeah, it's scary, but look, they're going to eat, we're going to beat.
That thing, I'm not even going to try to skin it in one go because it's such a huge piece of meat, so let's do a section on this size, it looks like tuna, it's almost not like that, yeah, it's a much darker resin than I was expecting. Our sailfish needs to be lined up with the edge of the Flay table and I'm definitely not worried about leaving a little bit of meat close to the skin because I know what it's going to be, oh yeah, look, look at those things if you try to get really close to the skin and you leave it on the fillet, it's not good, you have to leave some on the skin, it's okay guys, mmm, sailfish, take it

, I'm coming to you, we'll meet you in the kitchen and we're very excited to see Who knows. like how everything breaks down, we'll see you there, okay there's still time, but before we get to the cooking part of this video, if you liked my cooking segments, a few weeks ago I said I was thinking about starting a second channel Well, I'm finally going to pull the trigger and start that second channel, it's all going to be about food, seafood, chicken, anything to do with cooking and food, whether it's from the ocean or not.
I just want to have an outlet to share with you my passion for cooking and stuff, so I'll link it below. You would be doing me a big favor and giving me a head start if you subscribe to the channel. I'll have a link. Next I don't know what I'm going to call it yet, but I hope you guys come along on the adventure and I want to thank you for that, so what we're going to do tonight is we have three things going, starting with our sailfish. I cut them into very large pieces and we made a yogurt marinade, so this is full fat yogurt.
I also added oregano, salt, pepper, celery, salt, garlic powder, minced garlic, as well as the juice of half a lemon and a little lemon zest. a little bit of olive oil mixed it all together and then our fish marinated for about 30 minutes and now it will go straight to the grill. We just have some asparagus with a little olive oil, salt and pepper. Now I've always wanted to master crispy potatoes and What I think is a good way to do that is to boil them first, roughen up the edges because the more surface area that fiber has, the crispier it will get.
I may have gone a little overboard with the roughing, but that's what we started to boil them, I took them, I put them on two baking sheets, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, olive oil, I mixed it all together, they go to the baked fish goes to the grill the asparagus goes on the stove and that's it, let's put our potatoes in the oven at 425 or it should be about 30 minutes, put them on the same rack to cook, so I have the grill set up. high is 4:30 right now because like these pellet grills they lose a lot of heat when you open them and I want to create sort of sear marks and these are very thick pieces of fish and that's one of the reasons why the ones I wanted to make the yogurt marinade for the sailfish, everyone smokes a sailfish, everyone responds to the Instagram story or texts me saying, dude, you have to make selfish smoke sauce, which we'll do on The Cooking Channel if you subscribe, but I want to do it. try the fish when you smoke it pretty much everything tastes the same when you smoke it so we want to try the fish itself so we're going to put the yogurt marinated sailfish from your yard right on the grills and I'm excited because I've never marinated it in yogurt nothing.
I know it's very popular to make it with chicken and I wonder why not make it with fish. This fish is also very lean for me. Let's take our sailfish for a spin. This is what the sailfish looks like off the grill it doesn't really get the sear marks, I want to buy it in very thick pieces of fish after we do this again. You probably want to cut them in half lengthwise because it's thick, crispy potatoes, a little piece of sailfish, some crispy potatoes and then I'm fine helping with the asparagus okay guys it's done thanks for the first time eating sailfish and , uh, I'd have to say it's different than any fish I've ever read, but I like it.
Victor was trying. To say it was overcooked, it was dry, but I think that might be the case. I think it's delicious this way. I really like it. Oh, the yogurt marinade sauce, Director Maine, it's absolutely amazing. I'm not someone who likes super thick pieces. fish and this one was super thick but still really good. I didn't really know what to expect, but sailfish. I've never tried it before, but I think it's very delicious and these potatoes might be the best potatoes I've ever had. If only they were really good, but I like sailfish. I think it's good.
I'm excited to try it in different ways and uh it's good very good job Mike thanks honey they'll say something yeah swordfish sale calculator but. Sailfish, this is the first time we've eaten it, isn't it? Yeah, it's really good, it's definitely different than most cuts of fish, but I really like it and then the lemon on top is amazing, yeah, well, one physicist said swordfish, that's something like that. What does this texture remind me of, yes I know I would have it with picks too, but it works like a tuna steak or something, but it's really good and I'm enjoying your asparagus and potatoes.
Good job, two thumbs up mmm two. Passed, hey guys, this is what the sailfish looks like, if you want to see the inside, it's very thick. I guess I'm being too hard on myself. I've been cooking so much fish lately that I don't think I can anymore. in my head about how I think it should taste because I've put so many different species in it and it really doesn't look like anything I've ever cooked because I've cooked so much fish before, but this is almost like it's completely different. texture than normal fish, like when I even want to fillet it, it's super firm, almost like a pork chop, it doesn't look like a normal fish at all, it tastes good.
I'm happy with the recipe, I just think if I had to make something different. I would have made smaller sections because it is a little overwhelming to eat so much fish in one bite, but it is good, that really is good, there is no denying that the fish itself is good, no matter what recipe you make with it, it is very different . what we're used to, but I want to thank you so much for watching if you've ever tried sailfish before, comment below how you did it. I honestly think this would be a really great fish for sashimi or sushi because it's so thick I think in other parts of the world this is how they make it comment below if you've ever had it, other recipes you've tried or what I should try below and like I said guys, that cooking channel is going to be in the description box below, go ahead and hit that subscribe button if you haven't already.
I want to thank you so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video.
