Who Would Be King of France Today?
Mar 26, 2024claims based on the argument that history should have gone in a different direction. The point is that history has gone in a certain direction and therefore we must consider the entire history and heritage of a country, and not simply go back to some distant point in the past and forget everything that happened afterwards. So, to me, that rules out Queen Elizabeth and Balthazar Napoleon. I also think that since France has such a long history of stic
king
to a strict all-male line, theywould
probably be better off sticking
with that particular system (although I personally prefer the current system used in the UK and several other countries). , who now passes the throne to the eldest son, regardless of whether he is a man or a woman). But since we are only speaking hypothetically here, for France, I am going to say that the Duke of Parma is out, because he cannot claim seniority through the male line. That leaves us with the three main candidates. France has a royal history dating back to Charlemagne and beyond, although France wasn't even called France back then. Therefore, if France were to restore her monarchy, I think it
would
be best to have a king who has a strong connection to her long and rich history. That would rule out the Bonapartist candidate because France's two imperial periods were, relatively speaking, quite recent and were more brief interludes than lasting regimes. This leaves us with the Duke of Anjou and the Count of Paris. Again, I think the question is: Which individual has the closest ties to France and to France's more recent history? And for me, the clear answer is the Or-lay-an-ist: Jean, the Count of Paris. Now, I have nothing against Spain but why put a Spaniard on the throne of France when there is a Frenchman available? A Frenchman who is the legal heir of the former French kings, according to the Treaty of Utrecht? And that he comes from a royal branch that strongly promoted a liberal constitutional monarchy rather than an absolute one.
Now, this whole video was a bit of fun and a good way to teach you a little bit of French history. Actually, I am not someone who actively supports the restoration of the monarchy of France, or any other monarchy. But since Louis Philippe I was the last king of France and John, Count of Paris, is his highest-ranking male descendant, I think the answer to the question: Who would be king of France? Long live King John V! I'd love to know in the comments who you think should be king and why. And be sure to check out Barris' video and all the other videos that are part of the France Project.
