Apr 10, 2024
What's going on, everyone welcome back to Ice Navy Drivers Edition. Today we're going to get to a quick topic that's been dominating a lot of conversations lately and that's GM, how do I put it? Let's get into it. The

trans

filter

must be replaced. in suggestion of 7,500 Miles or

should

I say mandate or however you take it, but let's talk about it, okay, until recently, as I understand it, several people have asked me this question over and over again, especially some of you subscribers. and the people coming up to Facebook and tagging me in conversations is that GM put out a major mandate and I say mandate because that's how everyone treats it, saying the car needs the

trans

mission

filter

replaced at 7,500 miles if you do it early they want you to pay for it out of your own pocket it's those new 500 miles and then there's the big threat let's try to say the scare but this is not done your factory

warranty

will be

voided

so I've tried to be on this.

Conversation a few times and I've actually talked to a couple of people I know at dealerships and I'm trying to get feedback from a couple of engineers because I will say it was an intense conversation in 2022 and something that was brought up. on Corvettes and Carlisle now I tell you that because again, I don't know the name of the engineer that was at the Chevy booth that was speaking. I just don't know his name, but one of the things he mentioned is that people can be missing things. transmission filter change as it has been in the past and GM needs to find a stricter way to enforce this now that I heard that information from an actual engineer on the Corvette team, the conversation focused more on people who buy Corvettes and not driving them means putting less than 3,000 miles on your car a year, wasn't a problem.

More Interesting Facts About,

But ultimately what's happening is that because the rule initially stated that the first year oil change and transmission filter change were at GM, a lot of people were taking their car. to have the transmission filter changed with less than three thousand miles on it just so they can make it up to you with the first year of free service. If you change your transmission filter every 3,000 miles, you really haven't given the car a proper break. -I mean let's be real, they say the transmission filter

should

be changed around 7,500 miles if you only drove the car for the initial 500 miles and then went past 1,200 miles or suggested 1,500 miles before tracking and doing. many other high

perform

ance activities with the car and now you are changing the transmission filter before 7,500 miles, you really haven't given the car the proper break-in for the transmission filter that people were worried about or should I say for the transmission, So what did they do?

The easiest way to fix it was to extend it, so they extended it for two years. Guess what, with the two year extension you were still seeing cars that had less than 4,000 miles on them and had their transmission filter changed. In the grand scheme of things, GM isn't doing this to target the drivers of its cars and make it harder for them. They are not doing this to select a certain type of Corvette owner, but what they are trying to do is emphasize the importance. to change the transmission filter around 7,500 miles and that's important because think about it this way, it's another part of the break-in process that a lot of people don't take seriously, so

when

they come out and say "hey", your factory

warranty

It will be overridden in the transmission if this is not done and they make stricter guidelines because ultimately, as I said in the conversation that was being had, the trans filter change in proper use somewhere around seven thousand seventy five hundred miles is something that really needs to be dealt with severely since this rule came about.

I took my car out of service and the funny thing is I'm now talking to my service advisor trying to build a relationship and maintain a relationship with the specials they service. my car this will be three times now he sat there and told me since the rules came out, we've seen transmission filter changes increase by almost 160 percent, whether it's close to 7,500 miles or not, think about that because before that I would assume everyone was doing it but then another thing that caught my attention and this is coming from a Chevy service advisor is that one of the reasons I missed this dealership is because I didn't have to explain to them nor fight with them.
About changing my transmission filter now, I'll be honest with you. I had my transmission filter changed from Zeus somewhere around 6,200 miles, that's where I was

when

that moment came up and my one year free transfer to service. Am I worried about my transmission's job? No one should be

avoid

ed because Zeus is a 2020 model and this information came out recently, I think for the 2023 models, so it's three model years later, it's the same transmission for three model years later and back then even GM They had a video or something that said they recommend it. Shift and that was the key word recommend shifting at 7,500 miles but 5,500 to 7,500 is acceptable so I don't understand why a lot of people today or GM itself unless there's something they're not disclosing and that is not acceptable enough.

I'll follow one. I dug deeper when my service advisor sat there and said there's also one thing that came out of this conversation or this mandate from GM that wasn't just for customers and I had to think about that for a second and then I remember it and I'm sure. that you also remember, especially many of you Corvette owners, who got their Corvette C8 for 2020 and 2021, that many dealers actually refused or told customers that the first transmission filter change was not free or covered by GM, but since GM did this. When the announcement or this mandate comes out, we don't hear those comments anymore and I was hearing those comments well into 2022 because people will show up on the forms and say, "Hey," I thought this was the case.
Can you confirm it? My answer was what it still is to this day. That's why you would want your car repaired at a place that doesn't know any information about how to maintain and preserve it, especially things that allow them to get paid for free for doing it right. Those days are long and gone because all the Chevy shops that offer services. Corvettes know about this because I would say it's a crazy mandate, but this is the part of the conversation I really want to cover with you before I let you go. I honestly think GM will

avoid

factory warranties, no, if they get their transmission serviced before 5,000 miles I feel like you are not doing your car justice.
I have seen people come out and say I have my transfer replaced at 6,800 miles and the dealer told me I have to pay to do it out of my own pocket. again at 7 500. that right there and listen to my words that information there is honestly a dealer who arms you hard to make you pay for a service this goes both ways when GM made this announcement, GM's goal from everything I was understanding or what I witnessed was making people more responsible by replacing their trans filter about 7,500 miles, as suggested now with this information, dealerships are taking advantage of it to force people to pay for additional services and I really don't.
I feel like these additional services are justified, but yes, if you want to play the card that GM says 7,500 miles, go ahead, but this is the problem or situation that I am going to bring to your door if you buy a used car and you have no idea what the service history is but they tell you the manufacturer warranty is still on and they say you get it with eight thousand miles and you buy a car that a customer service has with the 5700 mile trans filter how do you know if this is something now? You doing your research maybe bringing this up now will make some people realize this, but do you really think that if you bought this car you didn't own it?
The transmission filter situation was addressed at 5700 miles. You do not know. but you buy the car with 8,800 miles and I use 8,800 miles because today I see a lot of cars for sale with eight nine thousand miles and that is outside the suggested range that many dealers mention about how long I have to transfer the car to replace it after 7,500 miles, so when you take your car in because you have a transmission problem, do you think GM is going to void that warranty? My answer is no and I'll tell you why GM has Honest Engine Repairs, Transmission Repairs on cars with lower miles where it was proven or documented that break-in procedures were not even followed as GM suggested, but now you believe the break-in procedures were done. maintenance and they'll just say, well, we know that. you did the maintenance, but it was too early.
It's not about annoying the customer, it's more about getting the customer to understand what type of vehicle they have and to service it as such, so I want to sit there and tell you. that GM won't void the warranty, it's just not a good deal for them, especially if they did it somewhere on a reasonable schedule, but I'll tell you this: there's nothing wrong with doing it twice, there's nothing wrong with doing it early, there is nothing wrong with doing it several times, but at the same time, why would you want to do it? There are too many stipulations that fall into this type of situation and based on my history with General Motors, this is not how they treat their customers to do business, so when you hear a lot of these threats and Dylan tells you, especially when you're around 6,000 miles.
I feel like if you don't do the trans filter after 6,000 miles, I'm not going to say you're doing it as an injustice, but I will sit there and tell you if you look at the information that GM has put out and what GM sat there and He said most of the debris should arrive within the first 7,500 miles as the gears wear into place and so on, etc. and so on, after 7,500 miles after replacing the transmission filter, you don't have to worry about it again until 45,000 miles, so if you do it around 6,000 miles, you'll get a little more junk in essence.
Based on the information GM released, you shouldn't see that much junk inside the trans filter between 7,500 and 45,000 miles and even then I don't think and don't think we're going to have people getting in at exactly that mileage to now replace their trans filter, so That said, don't be scared by this new statement, understand what has really happened. This rule was implemented because many people were not serious about replacing their trans filter. This rule was put in place because many dealers were not honoring the transmission filter

replacement

covered by GM, so since this came to light, transmission filter

replacement

has increased on cars by 160 percent, which I can't tell you if more Corvette owners are more educated now or if they still would have.
I haven't addressed this because, again, there are a number of owners who don't put more than 3,000 miles on their car a year, but as GM said sitting there, I think that's the main reason they extended it to two years because the six thousand miles The range is acceptable, let me know what you think and I will continue to work on this behind the scenes because I have every intention of talking to some engineers when I get the chance in Carlisle just to get a little more. in depth conversation about this because like I said the information that was conveyed in 2022 I really want to know or see if the thoughts are the same for 2023 so after talking to one of the engineers I got the message or that was conveyed to me .
Isn't this GM's intention to spite their customers or penalize them by circumventing their warranty? It is more about making everyone aware of what needs to be done to maintain their vehicles to the best of their ability so that they can get the most out of these vehicles. was meant to fulfill. I was told that it is only in rare cases that they really should be a

voided

and that they will focus on extreme negligence or deviation from the actual maintenance schedule, so what they expressed to me is more about getting everyone on the same page to get the required maintenance for your vehicle so that you can always get the attendant and maximum

perform

ance of the vehicle that was planned to be delivered at the end of the day.
I would do everything I could to tryChange the transmission filter as soon as possible. 7,500 miles as possible, but I don't think doing it somewhere in the 6,000 range would be that detrimental, and based on the conversation I had with the engineer, I wouldn't worry about doing it somewhere in that range. time period but that is the information that was shared with me and I am sharing it with you, do whatever you have please ask me on every driver post, go ahead hit the like button, subscribe to the channel, join the community of icmv drivers, this is an interactive community.
