Apr 11, 2024
Hello

yone and welcome back to the edge of speed. I'm at Darren's house today and we're going to show you his new 2023 70th Anniversary Corvette C8. It's also a convertible and we're going to show you

ever

ything today and then. In fact, we're going to do a few things, we're going to cover the inside, we're going to cover the outside and we're going to explain to you step by step how to do it. He's already done quite a bit of prep work, so we're not having to do things like clay barriers or anything like that, we'll basically wipe it down with alcohol and then go ahead and start covering it.

Now the interior is a little different and we'll go over that here in a second, but real quick, thanks to my approval team for hitting the approval button. I really appreciate it if you're new to the channel, thanks for hitting the play button and if you haven't joined, do me a favor and smash that. red subscribe button and the bell for notifications when new videos are uploaded, okay, let's start real quick. I want to show you that he's already done a few things to his car, but he plans to do a lot more first thing. fact, it actually lowered it and these are the Paragon springs, right, yeah, one inch Paragon springs and then it was lowered with the springs and also the coils were adjusted probably about 75 percent, which is about half an inch, so which looks really very. well as you can see here and the front is the Paragon lowering collars in addition to the springs okay that's how you get that look and still keep the front lift it works and you have mag ride do you have mag ride? a z51 c51 but with a low wing and i purposely ordered it that way.

More Interesting Facts About,

I wanted the low wing, sure, and then you have the option for the mirrors to match the paint and the rear spoiler, yeah, and then the wheels, you know,

this

is a great speech rim sponsor on light orange wheels. from our friend José from the 21 by 12 wheel designers. I don't know the exact offset. José could tell you that I have written down and then uh 20 times nine front tires 325 25 uh 21 rear if you look at the displacement. See, it's perfect right on the fender, you know, they put a lot of effort into that in the design to make sure it's concave for the wheel and that's all you can do right, and then the other cool thing is with the Forge lightweight wheels. , you can make

your

factory center caps, yes if you want you can use them too, but it's a cool option, sure you put

your

own in there, yes, they look great, yes, sure, and

this

is a brushed one. aluminum clear

coat

yeah it's awesome foreign wheel so went with the black tip exhaust

again

body color spoiler or lower spoiler and then this is a number 70 so the interior is absolutely beautiful , it has suede all over it, it really reminds me of a McLaren or a Lamborghini, yes. then the dash, as we've talked about on a couple of other shows, that's the only way you can get that Dash, yeah, exactly, so one more thing that he did on the inside is that he went with the stealth, you know that I'm a huge fan of that looks really great on this especially and he made the GT2 seats

instead

of the comp seats so if you went with comp seats the black would be on the inside and the white on the outside that's the difference between the GT2 and the competition and then one more thing it has done, you know ACS composite is a big sponsor and look it has the 1vm front splitter on the front so let's go ahead and start with the interior the car has just two weeks, so the seats are relatively clean, but I will say that obviously, as you can see by the color of these seats, these are white seats, oh yeah, they're not, they're not Sky Cool Grey, so they can get very dirty. easily or your shoes, you know? hit them, that's why we're going to

coat

the leather.

I think it's going to be really helpful because I've been cleaning the seats almost every time I come in and out because yeah, you know, it's like that. I already cleaned the seats with just your basic leather cleaner, what I'm going to do now is just homemade isopuric alcohol with distilled water, my own mix, I think it's five or six ounces of 90 percent Hall isopuric acid with 28 ounces of distilled water, that's fine and that's what I've been using all over the outside and I'll use it on the seats that only get oils that maybe laugh at others touching it or at our skin even though we haven't been in the car and then We will show you the use of the underdog product, which is different from a previous video we did almost a year ago, where the compound is a little different, since it is Teflon-based, yes, graphene-based, yes, which will give you provides much more flexibility.

Mike already did it. your car I've done it on other things around the house it's really cool that you can use the helpless product the coating product on your shower glass your countertops your barbecue I made your mountain bikes yes your boat all the plastic and we'll do it show it on sometime here, we'll lift the back and you can see. I did the entire bottom of the rear hatch. I did it under the trunk, so I already covered it. I covered it last night and that's one of the other big benefits of the underdog product basically it has a two to four hour cure time compared to most other products they tell you 12 to 24 hours but we'll see just We will add a little water.
I'll catch it, the water is literally going to come out. falling down here, yeah, that's awesome, so you know why not? Honestly, it doesn't take long to put this up. I mean, we're talking and I did the hood area here under the windshield, yeah, and we'll finish it like we do. the exterior today we're going to do the windshield, obviously, you know, this is maybe five minutes for this whole area, very simple and it will make it easier in the future, by cleaning the car and opening it to keep the dirt out and our understanding of speaking with Joel, the owner of Underdog, any part of their formula, there's something that has a static release where dust and dirt doesn't hold on as much, so I think that's going to be helpful and that's why you know.
I got carried away and went ahead and did what I said under the hatch and you'll see what it looks like which I think looks great oh yeah I wish we had it sooner or later yeah it looks great it just got a makeover . so I even did Under The Hatch and the other versions, but we'll see, there you go, it's just a big bubble, look at that, so yeah, the good thing about showing it like we did there is very obvious to see. just regular plastic but this is the kind of thing where your paint will be the same and so will your glass and a lot of people don't even realize that you put this stuff on your glass.
I mean, that may be the most important place to put it because the water just sparkles when you drive. You don't really have to use the windshield wipers unless it's pouring rain. Let's show you what it does on the seat before we put anything on it. Oh, that's a good point, yeah. So look at how it basically looks like it's soaked, yeah, we don't want that, yeah, but I've done this on another car, we'll show it when we're done, it'll do the same thing. thing that will just fall off, yeah, yeah, exactly, okay, we'll get started and we'll show you each step, so the first step is just this leather cleaner.
I've been using this for a couple of months, it's Chemical Guys, as it says. it really has no smell it works great it's just a good cleaner and I've been doing it almost daily almost every time I drive it spray it a little bit and wipe it off we'll use this and then we'll go back to the isoperic alcohol spray that we did and we'll just apply a very light spray and just a light wipe to make sure we've removed all the residual cleaner or oil from our hands and then we'll cover it up real quick.
You know, I don't want to put the coating on the suede part. It's going to be this way, there's a lot of suede here, so you don't want it, you don't want it on the steering wheel and nothing like that. door or the dashboard exactly or the B-pillar or the A-pillar, so okay, so we're going to use the underdog Pro product, that's how we're going to do it, we're going to cover it pretty religiously, we're going to stick with it there. Okay, sure, and then what we're going to do is take our pad or applicator pad and put it together to load it all up.
Now that we have our coating, it's going to be that easy, we're just going to get started right. here we're just going to go back and forth very lightly, you can see it's just the weight of my hand, just going back and forth making sure we cover all the areas, we'll go ahead and do the plastic, it doesn't really matter, yeah, what else The part important is the leather part, now we can see that it's a little bit easier on the black, we can see that it's actually, you know, leave it, oh yeah, yeah, you won't be able to see it on the white, but on the black you will.
See it for sure, so for everyone who is worried about the white sections, you won't have to worry about it anymore once you do this. Yeah, when I bought the car, I mean, white wouldn't have been my first preference. To be honest, on the inside, but I mean, it looks pretty amazing, oh yeah, but I can tell you just from the two weeks of having the car, yeah, you want to do this because especially my daughter walks in here and her feet do it. they have kicked white panel right there several times and I have a mild heart attack and as soon as we get home I grab the cleaner and wipe it off, this is different than painting the outside where you have a way to stand the flash except we're just rubbing it and we're going to come back with our cloth here in a second and just polish off the excess, yeah, and that's it, and we'll be done very, very quickly, very simply and so Save your seats, it will repel dust.
Jean leather material many times with white seats, if you wear blue jeans that blue will rub off and I think it will probably help repel that and even if it doesn't it will be very easy. to clean that blue off the seat once it's adhered to the leather, so we're going to go over it now with our cloth and polish

again

any excess that may be there, just polish it, that's all. I mean, you can see in the black I made, there are no marks or colors, it shouldn't affect the feel of the leather or if Mark was here it smells.
I was actually told two things that I was going to mention in this video and that is, it helps the leather feel more supple and it really helps the leather smell like new leather. If you have an older Corvette, it will revert to its normal new smell inside, so now it's doing the door panels again. be very careful if you have a 70 if not to hit that swing yes, I don't know what would happen if I had it but we're not going to try to find out, no, why not, I think the leather absorbs it a lot. more of what the body would be than the paint, well you don't have a clear coat and stuff like that, but we'll tell you the name of these fabrics here in a second, you can buy them on Amazon, but I think it's the rag or camera store of rags what is it, but they are very popular and they are really good because they actually get better when you wash them well, in fact, these are probably on my third wash, these ones that we are using here and That's the other benefit of the underdog product because it's a Teflon-based coating.
The rags that we are going to use, we can wash them at the end

instead

of throwing them away, so yes, it will cover them like we show you every time. surface wherever it can, it already looks much better. I hope you can see this on camera. uh you know, catch it on video, but it looks a lot better already, so I know none of you can feel this, but you'll just have it. Trust me, this is the side we haven't done, you'll probably be able to tell the difference in how it looks too, but this side feels good because it's good leather, but it just feels dry and you can tell. which doesn't have anything on it however this side has the coating and it immediately feels wet and flexible and you can tell it's soaked in that coding and it's going to be amazing so I don't know if you can tell on camera but it's definitely It looks better and feels better, but Darren will show you exactly what the seats do now that they're covered in water.
You guys saw what they did before. Look at that before it sat on the leather and soaked it. so we wanted to show you guys, there are a couple different types of bottles that you can order if you want a lot of coating, this says Marine because if you have a bottle, especially a big one, it's going to take a lot of product. but this is the exact same product that is in this Pro bottle, this is the smallest, this is the largest and then they have one in the middle that is 60 milliliters, the 60 milliliters is a hundred dollars, the 100 milliliters It's your best value, it's me.
Think about the discount on the verge of speed, which is a reminder to everyone. Michael put the link in the video, but if you use the borderline speed discount, you get 15 off and that reduces the 100 milliliters to 115 and 100 milliliters, you could easily make four cars, oh. Yes, yes, absolutely, I tell people not to buy the 30 millimeters, the 60 or the 100 because it gives you flexibility to put all the plastic on the glass, yes, the windshield wipers and use them indoors, as I said, in your mountain bike, in your shower. board so you know it's a minimal cost.
Get the bigger one because you'll know you'll use it for other applications and then on the site you'll know I think the pads are like two dollars and fifty cents each. Buy two or three pads, the standard coding rule if you drop it throw it awaythe trash, yeah, so don't drop the pad because you just don't want to pick anything up and start grinding up the paint and the same thing with the towels, there are 14 of them. I think that's what they sell them for, you get three different ones. colors and those cost like fourteen dollars.
I would probably buy one or two and these are washable so you know they will last a long time. I know you use yours, in fact, you could use your other set and this is where when you have two people doing it a second set of hands to help make sure you've cleaned everything it just speeds it up and makes it easier so we clean all the car with alcohol and we are ready to start. covering it and as I showed you in my video, which I'll link below, you don't have to worry about coding a big section and coming back to it quickly, we're going to cover the whole side or the whole front wherever it is. want to start, we're going to cover a big section, then we'll go back and clean it up and the other thing that Michael put in the video we did almost a year ago of my other gray Hypersonic car, yeah, The precoding process I followed for this car is the same.
First I blocked the clay well. I must say that you wash the car very well. I use the underdog soap which removes any wax or polish that was already there at the dealership, even if you literally just got your car in the last week or two, there will be polish because the dealership does their dealer prep that removes all of that. I clay bar my cars using a light grade clay bar, many would say that is overkill and I probably wouldn't. I don't agree with that, the reason I like the clay bar on the car is it allows you to take your time and that's where I seem to find imperfections in my paint and that's where I tape them up, surprisingly on this car I didn't have too many.
This is a three coat paint so it's probably a little bit higher grade of paint so after applying the clay bar between each step you always use the alcohol distilled water compound, spray it on, wipe it off and then Step on to Chemical's cut polishing compound. Guys, we highlighted it in the other video and then you go into the polish compound and at the end you do a final clean and then you're ready to coat and like Mike said, with this Underdog coating formula, the big difference is the dry time, it's try to finish. at 15 minutes we'll probably wait five seven eight minutes, which is what I did on my car, but it takes a little bit of stress off of me because we did the car before doing smaller sections and you're trying to get it out. pretty fast, it's between 30 and 60 and even a minute and a half, so it makes it easier to do bigger sections of the car and speed things up, yeah, and very fast, just to show you that I have my car here, I want say, from afar, look.
From the shine of that thing, the underdog cladding is absolutely phenomenal, so we finished all the cladding on the outside of the car. I'm going to take you to see it and show you how brilliant it is. Now look at those windows opening, so Mike. I timed it 50 minutes, that's what it took us 50 50 minutes, shit, less than an hour and we were talking about how while we were doing it, we were going slower than we needed to, it was our experience with other products that we were very careful when trying to make . all done you know take it off so you can probably do it easily in 35 40 minutes yeah so I couldn't get any footage of Darren's car in the sun after we finished coating it so here's his car in the sun.
Very good with the forged light wheels, by the way, the link for them will be below in the description, beautiful.
