Apr 26, 2024
good readings my beautiful loves, I'm Emmy, how are you? It's a pleasure to see you and welcome back today. I'm back with another Sriracha taste test if you missed the previous one where I compared the new Sriracha to the old Sriracha, be sure to check it out. that video below, I'm back to compare Sriracha if you don't know this sauce. Sriracha isn't actually a brand name, it's just a general name for a hot sauce, but when I think of

sriracha

, I think of this one and this is the one. with the green nozzle comes from H Fong Foods I grew up eating this, we always had a ball with this, we had it on eggs with fried rice noodles and to this day my mom reuses empty Sriracha bottles as an oil dispenser,

which

I think it's absolutely brilliant.

If you go to my mom's house you will see that she dispenses her oil when she cooks using one of these. I love this sauce and since I grew up eating it, there are certain dishes that I like to accompany it, like potatoes, I love it. like home fries mixed with a little ketchup, stir-fried noodles, I love this sticky rice. I talked about this in the last video I did about

sriracha

and ever since I had this as a kid, it's become somewhat of a cult. there are t-shirts and everything with the rooster or the sauce that some people call it and that's sriracha, it's produced in Irwindale, California and I never thought much about it because it was ubiquitous, the Green Top, we had it all the time.

More Interesting Facts About,

underwood ranches vs huy fong drama which sriracha is better...

It was never a big deal for me and then it really blew up and then there were all these other competitors trying to make the plastic squeeze bottle with different colored caps and of the ones I tried none of them tasted as good as this one so q220 3 when there was Sriracha shortage you couldn't find this anywhere and I knew it was a real thing when I went to my local F store and no one had green capped Sriracha, they had substitutes and I felt like none of them tasted good, it wasn't the right combination of flavors

which

I was used to until it came back late last year and then it was rumored that it didn't taste like the previous formulation and since I had an old bottle I went and bought a new bottle and did a little comparison so this is the new Bott that I bought it and, as you can see in that time, we have eaten quite a bit and today I am going to compare it with this Sriracha.

This Sriracha is called Premium Sriracha Chili Sauce and is made by Underwood Ranchs, which was for 28 years the almost exclusive supplier of red jalapeno peppers to us, Fong Foods. It's fascinating, so there's a lot of tea here. I'm going to give you a little synopsis of what happened, so Whong Foods sued Underwood Ranches. for $1 million and then Underwood Ranches countersued Whong Foods for fraud and breach of contract and Underwood Ranches won the Judgment for $23 million, so from 1998 to 2016, over a period of 28 years, Underwood Ranches supplied most of the red jalapeno peppers needed to make this. sauce 10 of those years there was a written contract and then the agreement was oral, but then in 2016 Whong Foods stopped buying peppers from Underwood

ranches

and they lost tons and tons of money, apparently they were supplying about 50 truckloads at their point maximum. of red peppers every day to meet the demand to make this sauce, so you can imagine that if 80% of their sales came from Hong Foods, the company lost tons of money and that's why they countersued so much tea to spill here, but what?

What interests me most is how this sauce tastes and how it compares to the original. I first found out about this because I read an article where Costco started selling it in a double pack and they were selling it for $9.95 which is a good deal. These days, around $5 each, I think it usually sells for around $9.99 $88.99, which is pretty expensive compared to the current price. I remember buying it for much cheaper, but these days it's probably about the same price. I remember buying it for $3.99. but I think these days it's a lot more anyway let's see what it tastes like okay let's go ahead and get started so here's the original it's had this packaging for as long as I can remember a plastic bottle with this kind white print. and eventually this kind of white print comes out because I remember the same label that I've always remembered translated into multiple languages and with nutritional information on the side, but that's Hong's original, which includes well if we look at the Underwood Ranch version, their label .
Instead of having a rooster, they have a dragon and it's a sticker rather than printed on the bottle itself, but the packaging is very similar in terms of diameter and size. The spout of the squeeze bottle is of course black instead of the iconic green, but very similar packaging I would say, so I bought it online and the first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the color - this one is very bright and red , while Hong Foods is a little more orange. See the color difference, so let's compare the ingredients. so Hong Foods contains chili, it does not specifically say red jalapeno chili, sugar, salt, garlic, acetic acid, potassium sorbate and sodium bisulfate as a preservative, xanthan gum.
Next, let's compare that with Underwood

ranches

they contain red jalapeño pepper, they say very specifically what type of pepper sugar or and water they include water this one doesn't say water salt oh this one doesn't say salt oh yes it includes salt the same acetic acid the same garlic the same natural flavor which is different here, which I find unusual, usually when you make a hot sauce, you want to add a little bit of water to it to make it flow, unless you're making a really interesting chili paste, let's do a taste test. I haven't tried this sauce yet, let's open it up so the lids seal on top.
Now I remember that in the old days, when I opened the bottle, I always burped. and fart and always squeeze out some sauce, does this one do that? No, it smells really good, wow, nice chili fragrance, it definitely smells like garlic, it smells fantastic, ok let's compare that to OG oo, something similar, this one smells funkier but quite similar to the garlic chili combo though. This smells very like chili, really delicious, chili smell. I'm excited about this, okay, so first I'm going to try it directly and then I'm going to put it on some noodles, let's drizzle them over and compare their consistency, shake them up. so OG yeah exactly as I remember and this one wow it's so red so it looks a little thinner look how it builds up a little more to be consistent with the water and this one is a little thicker look how sit a little higher, so maybe more thickeners or just less water, but look at that color, that color is very striking, it's almost fluorescent, well this one looks a little more faded, since this is The Benchmark, let's try that first, here we go, it's a give.
Moss Tangy garlic delicious tastes a little metallic but I think it's because of the spoon M delicious now let's compare the competitor smells very similar ooh it's spicier and it's different it's spicier I like that the amount of heat level is spicier and remembers more to how I remember it was Sriracha and that's what I enjoyed as a kid, it had a little bit of heat, a good amount of spiciness, it wasn't just talk about this idea of it being hot sauce like there was some spiciness to it and this one has more spicy, it's definitely spicier, sweet, salty, maybe a little less garlicky, it's different than the OG OG, here the garlic is a little thicker and not as spicy mm, having said that, I like it too it's a little more acidic , a little more acidic, less garlicky and a good amount of spice, it is delicious, but it is different than Sriracha, but having said that of the Sriracha duplicates or competitors that I have tried, this is the best, this is the closest, but It's still different, but what I really like is the amount of spice, this has a very nice touch, much more than this.
I'd say maybe a little spicier than Tabasco. Completely different flavor than Tabasco. Tabasco has a deep type of smokiness. Well, this has more garlic flavor. Spicy and sweet, but not spicy like a Louisiana style hot sauce, not like watery and vinegar hot sauce, it has some substance, but I like it, now let's try them on a plate. I'm going to heat up some Padu that I collected and give it to you. a contextual taste, so I have some delicious pad U rice noodles stir-fried with some vegetables and let's try it with both sauces. Look again how vivid that Underwood Farms red is versus Sriracha, it's so vivid, here it is original, it's a luy moss, mhm, a great complement to these noodles.
The food bowl is made with rice noodles that are nice, wide and can be chewed well. It has a little bit of scrambled eggs, a little bit of soy, a little bit of meat, broccoli, a delicious combination. a little sweet goes well with the noodles, it's very interesting now that I have the old Sriracha with the Underwood Ranchs soracha. I noticed how much less spicy it is than I remember. I remember putting a significant amount like this and it would give you a nice kind of burn but now it doesn't but it's still delicious the flavor is exactly what I remember now let's try the Underwood Ranch version in the ptiu pretty good but the spiciness is what really I like mhm, it's different although it's more acidic and less garlic whereas this is more acidic I feel like it's a very well balanced sauce, it goes very well with the noodles, I love the spiciness level and it has less garlic flavor which It might appeal to some people looking for a slightly less assertive tasting sauce than I've encountered. friends before who said they don't like Sriracha that much because it tends to be too flavorful or too garlicky and I understand that 100% and in some cases I agree that it can be overwhelming and in that sense this could be the sauce for a person with that taste. preferences because it has less garlic flavor but still has a lot of spice oh I'm really hungry right honey there you go the Underwood Rancher Sriracha is delicious.
I feel like it's a big competitor to weong foods, it's different, it's not. like garlic, it's more acidic but it's flavorful, it's well balanced and most importantly in my opinion it has a good amount of heat, although it's not as spicy as I remember and that was just because it tasted like, oh yeah , this is. It's not very spicy at all, but if you don't like that spicy kick, maybe this is the place to go, so in my short life this is still the original Sriracha, but I would buy it too. I really like the well balanced nature of that and the level of heat, okay my loves, thank you so much for watching.
