Thrift Store Makeover #6

Jun 04, 2021
a portion of this video is sponsored by zynga words with friends too hey it's me today is a

thrift

store

makeover

which involves me taking something I found at a

thrift

store

and putting my own on it style. Okay, usually this involves taking something perfectly sensible, but very simple and turning it into something that's more my kind of style, loud, almost obnoxious, but I like it, watch that feature and display them in my art room, eventually it will fill up , this is the special little item I bought at a thrift store oops little bag it's leather it matches me it has some character I liked it it's a bag it's a shadow it's not a bag it's a tote bag I like the bag better ah I'll do everything possible to inject personality into this and life, I'm dead anyway, let's get to the point, so here's the program, the tote bag, it's super basic, like no tag, no pockets, it doesn't even have an interior lining Just from the looks of it, I'm guessing this is pretty old, it looks like good quality, it has a really cool rainbow effect though, stop projecting rainbow vibes on this bag, that's my job, I spent 18 on this, which That's a lot of money for a thrift store.

The interior looks like 30 years of construction. dirt on the bag, so I'm going to start by using some metal cleaner to try to clean the brass clasp on the front, there we go clean side versus dirty side, what do you think? Yes, it's not that big of a difference, but let's still do the same thing. The other side, oh that was too much, the surface of this is really scratched and a little chipped, so some of this dirty look is here to stay. I hate it when I accidentally rhyme, but at least we can cut out a lot of the gunk. dirty, remove the dirty, so it will be a little better than before and it's time to paint, so I'm preparing some leather paint in a couple different shades of blue and here we're going to paint the bag pink, no, It's blue, that's not funny, I don't know.

More Interesting Facts About,

thrift store makeover 6...

If it hurts anyone to see me paint on a nice old leather bag, maybe for some people this just isn't right, like I'm ruining it, I'm ruining it. This bag has been abandoned, okay, someone threw it away, it was probably sitting at the thrift store for months and months and no one noticed until some weirdo walked in and said, "Oh, I can paint this, so I think it's Time to give it a new life, so I'm going to let it dry." I totally dipped my brush in my Coffee instead of my paint Water I wish I could say this is our first time going that's where you belong so I'm thinking you know I love this blue color but in this bag it's super bright like scream, especially compared to the previous color.

So I'm going to review my paint options. I'm going to add a little orange to each one. So that didn't do anything. Damn yeah, I know exactly what I'm doing. I have to add a little more orange and this. This is because orange is a complementary color to blue, so when you add orange and blue together you get brown, so if you add a little orange to a lot of blue you get a slightly more brownish blue, also known as a blue more desaturated. Thanks ok back to the bag hello we've been out for a while so there's a big difference in the color next to the original blue it almost looks more greenish it's a more toned down version of the blue and I think it's a color Pretty nice, so that's it.

I definitely could have taped the metal casing over, but I didn't want to waste time doing that so I tried to carefully paint around it and kept making mistakes and having to clean it up, so which was more wasteful. of time and finish that very quickly, that looks good, I'm happy with it and finally I'm going to move to the back or the front, it's both the back and the front at the same time, you see this little grain here that it's just the zipper imprint on the front so the reason I switched from bright blue to this blue yeah I'm still talking about this I clearly like bright colors but I'm thinking I'm going to add bright colors on the upper part. of this, so I feel like the background color should be a little bit more subdued, it's still pretty bright but less bright than the colors that I'm going to put on top of because I want them to stand out, you know, instead of everything looking the same. super bright.
I don't want this to look too tacky just a little tacky and you can see I'm incorporating multiple shades of blue and just creating a sort of gradient look here, it's pretty subtle but I thought it would be nice to have a little bit of variation in the background , it's okay and let it dry. Part of this video is sponsored by Zynga words with friends too, so I'm going to take a quick break, although it's a lot of fun to watch the paint dry, it's really exciting. I have also preferred to spend time playing words with friends.
You may have heard of it if you've never played it. It's a word puzzle app where you use given letters to create words in the most strategic way possible to get the maximum amount of points so you can win you just have to try it's a lot of fun and it's not that difficult can't you see how what did I do? You see what I do once you get the hang of it you can play against other people or there is a mode where you can play completely alone. I like to play against other people because I am competitive.
Oh, she's going to play the word win. You wish this game was perfect for me because I have these little pockets of time in the day. where I'm paralyzed with my work so I just open the app, have multiple games going at all times and just make a couple of plays, it's not like you have to commit to playing a full game right then and there you can just Play what you have time for and then finish the game later, it's relaxing when I win, it's free and fun, so if you're smart you should add the r to get extra points, download the game now, thanks to Zynga's Worth with friends also. for sponsoring this part of the video, so this is what we have.
I like it. I like it a lot. This is great. In fact, I would delete this if I had left it like this. I'll do that? No. I'm just getting started, so I'm pulling out my little sketchbook. Oh, there are spoilers in there and I'm drawing a very rough plan for my design, so it's time to prepare my colors. Oh wait, why didn't I put that in there? I totally ruined the symmetry even though I think the plain blue bag is kind of cute and it's definitely something that looks more normal and that you could carry with you, you know, without looking like a complete maniac, but I'm not necessarily that.
I'm trying to create something that is fashionable, I just want to create something unique and like art. You know, it's a cool piece of art, not necessarily something I would use well. I will use it just not as an accessory. What I'm talking about? I have never used a clutch before, I prefer purses, purse, purse, I only carry bags with straps, carrying a clutch is like sacrificing one of your hands, you have to carry it, who does it, so probably this It will stay in my art room as a diversion. bag that I will use to store some kind of supply obviously I decided on a butterfly theme for this when I was thinking of ideas on what to paint here butterflies seem to be the only option in my head just yes yes butterflies which is strange because no is that he really has something for butterflies.
I've said butterflies too many times. I think I've had several butterfly print bags in my life, in fact I think I still have one of them, yeah, so maybe that's why there was that connection? Oh, these leaves, were the man who fought to be righteous. A big part of the problem was that there was a pretty intense shine on the bag because the paint and leather are very shiny, so you can't tell. From the camera, but from my angle it was very difficult to see what I was doing, so the butterflies are not ordinary butterflies, no, no, they are fruit flies, no, that's something else, they are butterflies with themes fruit. in fruits recently, I mean, that's been going on for a while, but recently, especially, I can't get away from it and I also feel like normal butterflies have been done so many times, you know, says the one who can't stop. painting fruit I wanted to do something special so I made each butterfly inspired by a different fruit so on the front we have kiwi lemon and strawberry and half of my face in the frame disappears now one thing that really bothers me I'm sure many Some Of you have already noticed this, you probably already wrote angry comments about it.
The small gaps in the closure can still see the original leather there. I felt like if I tried to paint in that small space I was just going to make a mess. so i left it, it may or may not be fixed later, so yes, these designs are a bit strange looking, yes, they are very strange to the point that I'm not entirely sure if I like them, I think so, butterflies are supposed to be perfectly symmetrical, but I can't do symmetry. I tried a little to make things symmetrical but not super precise at all. I wasn't about to go crazy over it, so now I've gotten to the point where I just can't stand it.
There are no gaps anymore, so I just went for it and tried to paint there and it actually wasn't difficult at all. Good job, well done, everyone's done with the front for now and the back, and I'm doing the same kind of thing on the back but different fruits. This doesn't even look like a thrift store

makeover

because I never painted anything in the series that wasn't wood. I liked this process, although it was a fun article. For painting, maybe next time I would look for a mini backpack or something like a small leather backpack. I feel like a backpack is actually something you can get away with with crazy designs because backpacks are more casual, but a tote bag is more formal, so that's nice.
How strange, this vintage formal bag now has fruit themed butterflies, fighting styles on here, however if you hadn't already put this together, this is a watermelon butterfly and that is a mango butterfly. I just said in my last video that I was going to stay away from watermelon because I do it too much here. Not that the entire bag is a watermelon theme. I mean, it's just a butterfly. Is it the biggest butterfly in the bag? Yeah, it's not even a big deal, like it's not like that. Don't worry, it's okay, the actual part of the butterfly insect, the abdomen, the body, always gave me the creeps, like the little legs and the hairs, and it's not that they are any more or less creepy than most insects, I just forget sometimes. that between their beautiful wings are nasty little insects like all the others, so I just painted that part of them, I really just didn't want to be too detailed about it, they look like little worms, well they were some kind of worms. at one point not exactly worms caterpillars oh I bet the watermelon caterpillar was cute I'll paint it next time anyway you know what I've decided I like these butterfly designs I wouldn't be surprised if they showed up again . a different shape at some point, but when it comes to the overall design of the bag, it seems like something might be missing and I felt like that the whole time I was painting this, but I don't know what it is, so I just added some little white dots, I don't know if that helped anything, but I added them to the front and I'm not sure what it is either, it's fucking fairy dust, okay, and I'm just touching up that little corner spot and that's it.
Tired old clutch wait a second wait that was great, I really like it, so here's the final result. I don't know how you guys are going to feel about this, honestly, I really don't know 100 how I feel about it. I'm going to be one that I have to stare at for a month before I really decide how I feel. I'm pretty sure I like it. It's definitely unique, so I achieved that goal. I've never seen anyone make fruit-themed butterflies. I made something new today, my friends, I hope you enjoyed this video. I'll see you next Friday, bye.
