The New York Jets FAILED Zach Wilson - Dan Orlovsky | NFL Live

Apr 23, 2024
Adam, what do we need to know, Laura, this is a trade that had essentially been agreed upon for weeks, the only question was how to divvy up the money, and in the end, the Broncos and Jets are splitting the $5.5 million he was given. They owe Zach Wilson this year. both teams botched draft picks in the 6th and 7th round the compensation was agreed upon weeks ago the question was money and today the two sides discovered the money by sending Zack Wilson to the Denver Broncos now the Broncos essentially have a little more of flexibility in the draft they have a quarterback added to their room to go along with Jared Stum with Ben Denucci and now they enter the draft and we will see whether or not they feel like they have to get a quarterback and how high they would have him. to get one, but today they landed former number two overall pick Zack Wilson of the New York Jets in a draft pick bust.

That sounds good, Adam, I'm glad you're with us, this is complete. show Happy draft week everyone dan rovski Mina K Mel kyber Jr too Dan, we'll start with you, what do you think of this move for Denver and their quarterback plans for this week specifically? I don't think it affects at all if Denver was in the quarterback market and in the draft and we thought they were this morning or a couple of weeks ago, they certainly still have Zach Wilson in Acquiring him does absolutely nothing now it gives Zach a new start that I needed to get out. from New York and it's a good place, obviously, with Shawn Pton, one of the best offensive minds coaching quarterbacks that we have in the NFL, but if I were the Denver Broncos and I had potentially entertained myself trying to get up and draft a player like Aon Knicks this changes that not one bit, yes, I totally agree with Dan.

More Interesting Facts About,

I think draft capital or lack of waiver really tells the story, frankly, of how both sides viewed Wilson. I also think for Cha Payton in particular, you know, coming off this year with Russell Wilson, where I imagine he was a little frustrated with Russ holding on to the ball and taking a lot of sacks. I can't believe he was totally drawn to that same skill set in the other Wilson as a replacement that he was like, "You know, I like this." For the Broncos, I mean, it doesn't cost them anything, it's a standalone scenario that they can see if they can develop him, develop him, see what you have in him, but to Dan's point, this shouldn't change their approach to the draft at all, um, if you want. go up and get a quarterback, you know Mel, maybe some have forgotten, but it's hard to forget that Wilson was the Jets' second overall pick as recently as 2021, you evaluated him, we all did, are you surprised how does this develop?

At least I've had Justin Fields ahead of La, that's all, I think I'm more than Solas and I like, you know, Zach Wilson coming out armed. The talent was obvious, the competition, some of the teams he was lighting up, you look at defensive secondary defenses in general. and you would expect that from a BYU quarterback, but his ability to throw the ball made every throw he could make, but this is really a team that paid the price for a decision made earlier. Remember they took Sam Darnold third over Josh Allen if they had Josh Allen, that previous regime would have been intact, he wouldn't have even moved on, but those are a couple of mistakes about the damn third pick, Zack Wilson, second pick, that this organization, the group, they are not the same people, but this Jets football team has committed in recent years.

So if they had Josh Allen, this wouldn't have been committed. Now they made this mistake. Now they have to go back. You talk to Aaron Rogers and you look at a quarterback, maybe at some point in this draft, that you can maybe wait for. get Brock's next party, which you're not going to have, but teams are hoping that maybe they can do it, so it'll be interesting to see on day three if they take a young quarterback and bring him in, yeah, this is on the Jets. Okay, they

failed

Zack Wilson and I think other teams have a lot to learn.
I think specifically on the Jets, Zack Wilson was flawed coming out of college, they immediately put him on the field when you take players that specifically have mechanics. defects and you put them on the field you set them up for failure and Zach didn't do himself any favors as the two things that were Zach's problems Zach's problems leaving school where he was on his lower half a problem mechanically not consistent with that has never been solved partly because he had to play immediately and then panicked with the ball and that has never been solved partly because he had to play immediately, so there is some responsibility on the player, but in In many ways this is a failure of the Jets and I hope that we as a group and NFL organizations start to pay attention to this: if you just take these young players and they don't have these unique skills and they have flaws, they won't get a chance. to discover what they are.
I'm going to fail in that position.
