More Interesting Facts About,

the laundry system that changed my life minimalist laundry routine...

It's just one of those things that we have to do and I think for many of us our laundry system was born from what we learned growing up, how we did it at home and We don't really usually take the time to look at it and ask ourselves why not works. It's usually because we think we're lazy or that something is wrong with us. That's why our system doesn't work, but I think there's one main thing. What's going wrong is simply that you have too much inventory when it comes to the clothes that go through your laundry room, from bedding, towels, washcloths and tea towels to clothing and all the clothes your family has for most of us. we have too much inventory and this completely overloads and overwhelms our laundry system and that's why it doesn't work so I want to talk about the actual system of how laundry moves in our house but I want to start from the beginning because I think Yes We can solve this piece of the puzzle, it will make the rest of your laundry system as such.

It will be so simple and easy that it will no longer be a problem in our house, as if simply doing laundry happened. It's no big deal anymore, even if we have six people in our house, so number one simplifies the inventory. So how many bath towels does your family really need? We used to have eight. We now have six people in our house. bath towels, it works great, we have a set of sheets for each of the beds, we try not to have extra blankets and things like that in our kitchen, we have like seven dish towels and five tea towels and then we also share about how we have greatly simplified our own wardrobes and also our children's wardrobes, so that all the dirty clothes in our house fit into the designated spaces very easily and conveniently, and that has made a big difference.

We made it so that we no longer have random piles everywhere. There are no unfolded clothes on the sofa in the bedrooms. There are no piles on the floor because we have very little inventory when it comes to clothing and other textiles. I don't know what to call them. Those piles don't happen anymore because we are literally using and using all the things in our house and those piles in the past were a byproduct of simply having too much stuff. I didn't need all those clothes that were on the floor or the extra things in my drawers or in the back of my closet now I need the clothes that I have like they have to go through the laundry and put them back so I can wear them again and not even There is enough to leave it piled up. that makes sense and so it's totally counterintuitive, we say, hey, my laundry system isn't working, the answer is not that we just get rid of all your stuff, but it's been a lot of fun to hear.
From you too that this has also made a big difference in your house and of course we have many videos on this. The best way to test it is to use quarantine containers or just pack things up to see if you really miss it. but I'm telling you, I don't think you will because your house will no longer be overwhelmed with piles of laundry, okay, that's probably what would make the biggest difference in how laundry works in your house. The second thing. It's just that for us we try to do a load a day, a lady says that a load a day keeps the laundry monster away.
I know some people like to have a dedicated laundry day. What I discovered for us was that it was very stressful to watch the pile of clothes grow. throughout the week and that if that day that we had dedicated to doing laundry, if something got in the way or came up, two weeks would pass before we would do it again and that was also very stressful for us. especially now that we're trying to keep closets more streamlined, one load a day makes it very possible and I really love that every time I walk into the laundry room it's not overwhelming.
The second thing is that I have gotten rid of the hampers and laundry baskets. Now in our house we are lucky enough to have a laundry room on the main floor, our bedrooms on the main level, the kids are upstairs and then all the bathrooms are on this level, so every time someone moves, whether in your room or in the bathroom after taking a shower. or whatever, all the dirty clothes come in here, our house is small, it's not too far away, everyone has legs that work, so that's the rule in our house, but it's worked very well because what I like is that when I come in here.
To wash a load of laundry all the dirty clothes are already here I don't have to go around the house first and pick up the dirty clothes and isn't it amazing how just saving that extra step makes it so much more likely for me? coming over to throw in some dirty clothes while I make dinner so I really enjoyed not having that now again, if your laundry room is in the basement or garage it may not be possible but you might want to limit significantly the You have a number of hampers on each level and honestly I would see if you could get rid of the laundry hampers completely because I don't know about you, but in our house anything that holds stuff will hold stuff, so laundry hampers They fill up with laundry and that's where it stays, so maybe you're more disciplined and can handle them, but we've gotten rid of every laundry basket in our house and haven't looked back.
I never thought I'd actually want to have half of it clean. Half the laundry, who knows what's in it, is already in the house, so I don't miss it at all, but that brings us to the next step: When each load of laundry comes out of the dryer, I take care of it for complete, but here's the thing, it's just a load, so it's really not much. I start sorting it out basically when it comes out of the dryer, like a nice bath towel that I fold, but here are some, these are the smaller girls, so it'll all go up.
It's the guys, so I sort through it quickly as it comes out and it's really surprising how much of it doesn't have to be folded. I usually try to turn everything inside out before washing it, but that didn't happen. Pain like this is a very typical burden, so this is one of Tom's white t-shirts, so I'll throw it in his trash like the boxers just threw in his trash. These are a pair of Toms jeans, so I'll fold them. but otherwise, guys, guys, okay, so put away Tom's jeans and then this will go in the bathroom and then I have two piles to go up, but look how I can hold everything like I don't really need a laundry basket. to go put these things. or I ask the kids to come here and I just give it to them and they go put it away and just like that, the whole load of laundry is done and it feels great to have it completely clean every time it comes. out of the dryer, which brings us to the next step is that I try to fold as little as physically possible, so we've talked about our bins, all the kids have drawers or bins that their clothes go in the only things. that we hang in the folder are nice clothes, but everything else is children's clothes, it's like they don't wrinkle like they're totally fine.
Tom has bins here for t-shirts, underwear, socks and anything he doesn't have to fold I don't fold and that makes it easier to get it back out of the dryer because it's just one load. I don't need a laundry basket as I can hold everything in my arms if I need to leave. I go to the bathroom and put away some towels if I need to run to the kids' room, I put their clothes on the bed and then they have to put them away before going to bed, if it's our things I can put them away quickly so that piece can also be taken care of with each load coming out of the dryer just means we no longer have piles of clothes on the couch and that's magic, it's just wonderful, so I encourage you not to start another load of laundry if I don't have time to deal with what's in it. the dryer so never do that that's how things build up and build up and that's when things break down and don't work so I know this isn't for everyone.
I discovered this in my last laundry video that some of you fold and fold everything and it's totally fine for you to do that, but for me it's made a huge difference not having to fold everything in our house, so those are the main ones. steps of my washing

routine

, but there are also some other questions that usually come up, so to do one load per day we mix and wash almost everything together, the exception is dark colors, so anything that is dark in color I deal with and I'll do it. wash it just so it doesn't get lint on it and most of that stuff we put on the drying rack to dry on its own, but I think a lot of you have discovered this too now that the colors don't bleed like that.
They used to, especially once something has been washed a few times, so we haven't had a problem washing everything together from time to time. I take out Tom's linen and lift those two or do them alone, but most days it all goes together too. If something is really dirty, I'll try to wash it myself, but those are really the only exceptions. We've also tried to make the detergents and stain removers and all those kinds of things that we use very simple. I talked about that. a little in our video about the 57 things we no longer buy, but we have been wearing Molly's earrings.
I like it, it's good for us, it's good for the environment, it's affordable, it works great, I haven't noticed any difference between free tide. and sure and Molly's foam as to how effective it is, but here's what I've noticed: clothes don't smell bad in the washer like they used to, I mean we try not to let them sit too long, but it happens from time to time when, but it used to be that if you left it overnight, in the morning it would smell bad, it started to smell, which the top is very sensitive to and you had to wash it again, but now it could stay there for much longer and not It smells, so I don't know what's different about that detergent, but I definitely appreciate it, especially if you have a front loader, which smells bad on its own anyway, so you might notice it too. and then for stain removers, I really like oxiclean.
I've used it forever, so I'll put it in if a full charge is a little dirty; otherwise for stain treaters we will just use scream or I have a Norwex degreaser that works. great, it's also been a good investment and as for storing some of Tom's things in here, these are all containers for the kids' socks, it's actually because this room is convenient and again, in our room we don't have many things. clothing storage, that's why we keep it here and then for the kids. I really like having his socks down here, all of his clothes are in his rooms now, but I like having his socks down here by the door, easy to grab and nothing like that. running up and down to get socks if someone needs them too when they come out of the dryer, so two, it's super quick to just sort them into those bins, so that works great too, but again we have a dedicated laundry room, we have space for that.
That's why it works in our house, it may not be ideal for you, so I think it's most of the things that have made the clothing work better, but really that piece of inventory that is the most important thing is a big thing that It makes a big difference and I Although I think you'll really find that you like having less things to manage and seriously, aren't these earrings fun?
