The 11 Best Electric Guitar Home Practice Amplifiers

Apr 19, 2024
In today's video I'm going to cover

best

practice

amplifiers

that I've personally tested in one form or another. I've been doing this YouTube channel for over 15 years which is crazy, we have over 120 million views and at that. I've tried so many different

practice

amps over a long time that this will cover everything I've shown and which I think stood out from the rest of the package. Now these won't just be super expensive

amplifiers

, they won't just be basic amplifiers. level amplifiers I chose a good selection of things depending on your budget and particular need. Some people like amplifi they are a little simpler and other people will want all the features of Under the Sun, so I have a really great list, just know that these are not in any particular order because it is very difficult to rank them according to their tones .
the 11 best electric guitar home practice amplifiers
I think all of these are great in their own way and I'll talk more about it throughout this video now if you can do me a favor we'll give it to us. This video with 1,000 approval would be amazing. I put a lot of work and research into my previous content to put this list together. I really felt like these were the standouts of the bunch while testing so many different practice amps. Clearly I haven't tried them all and if your amps aren't on this list maybe I didn't review them, but I'll still link them to my playlist of all the amps on this list so you can review them later. this video, that link will be in the description box, let's get into it, okay, let's start with this.
the 11 best electric guitar home practice amplifiers

More Interesting Facts About,

the 11 best electric guitar home practice amplifiers...

I have to start with the new X Mighty light BT Mark I and this could also be translated of course to the original version, which was my little favorite. practice amp at that time and then ux did this, so this is a 3w practice amp, it can be powered by double A batteries, there are six double A battery slots on the back, you can power it via USBC on the back and it also has a USBC port and you can also run it with a dedicated power supply, what this means is that if you have a battery bank like this or a computer port, whatever the case may be, you can power the amplifier.
the 11 best electric guitar home practice amplifiers
This amp is cheaper than the Sparco positive grid and there is no DLC which is that downloadable license content so you won't be charged extra through the app when you need to use it it will just work and I think this is one of the great aspects Positives Once you've gone through the process of connecting this to the app and then setting your favorite ringtones, you can call up your favorite presets by simply using the button at the top, meaning you don't need to connect it to the phone again, just You can mark it as clean and dirty.
the 11 best electric guitar home practice amplifiers
High gain, whatever the case may be, you can add effects and all that kind of stuff and then you can bring that sound back using the button on the top. This is amazing and I highly recommend it. This amplifier represents the

best

value for money. overall versatility of all of them and I'll explain why, so this isn't just a great little desktop practice amp that you can then plug into your phone, set up a bunch of tones and call them up nice and easy, it's got a bunch of different built-in effects and you can also use it as a dedicated audio interface, so you'll get

guitar

tones that you won't be able to achieve by simply plugging a microphone into an amp in the room and producing tracks that go directly into a The audio interface sounds phenomenal and you can I highly recommend if you're on a budget and looking to record an album or whatever the case may be, the tones on this are really something special.
Next is the positive spark of the grid and I like this enough. To add to the list now, it is very small and compact, it is a smaller unit than the new BTL Mark I, so if you are looking for a travel amplifier that you want to use at low volumes and that has a built-in rechargeable battery. battery, this is definitely the way to go, it saves you having to worry about doubling up on batteries or buying rechargeable batteries or powering it by some other means, so once you charge it you get plenty of battery life and now it's very small in the hand.
Given how small this amp is, it's louder than you might think and like the BTL Mark I, it can also be used as an audio interface, so if you just want to plug it into your computer and record some

guitar

tones really cool, you can do it like Well, just know that the size of this amp is very small and I wouldn't expect too much from it if you are looking for an amp that really fills the room. I have some better recommendations coming soon. The positive spark of the network. go allows you to play your favorite songs thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, but you should know that the app contains a lot of DLC that is paid content, so if you want to get some of the Jam tracks they provide and other resources, you will be able to Pay Plus, this amp is also designed to click onto your guitar strap but I don't like using it that way so I prefer to use it on a desk and if you're using a cable it's very easy for it to fall out. finished, so you have to use it with a wireless pack if you want to leave it on a desk, otherwise you will pull it off the table if the cable has tension, which means it's another thing to buy.
If you don't have a wireless package yet, keep that in mind, but again, this is a really great-sounding app considering how small it is. The next one is possibly my favorite practice amp if I just want to focus on playing. and less about the tones and this is the joyo jamb buddy, the simplicity of this makes a lot of sense and I love the fact that it is a flat design so you can lay it on the floor and use it as a pedal and change channels etc, so this is a very simple amp, it essentially gives you a clean channel, a crunch channel and a high gain channel, and that high gain channel is a little reminiscent of higher gain Santana type of tones.
It has a really nice clean channel, but it's not very loud. I think this is possibly the best practice tool because when you turn it on you change channels and you don't have to fiddle with a million different effects. Maybe the biggest limitation of this is that it doesn't have reverb, but get an analog delay and if you know the channel, you know how much I like analog delay, so you can dilate it and get a nice little slapback sound or you know a type analog delay tone with a wider sound, so it's cool. It gives you Bluetooth connectivity, you can play from your phone, you can just connect it directly, play music and play at the same time.
I think the tones on this sound really great on the front of the amp, now we have two footswitches with this one. on this side it allows you to switch between the clean channel and the drive channel and then you can switch between the Crunch and High Gain channel using this footswitch here this is the amp that I choose to use whenever I haven't played for a while and I'm going to rework my skills because it's so simple. I can concentrate on playing. I don't have to worry about all these different tones and having too many different effects and I can get a clean tone with just a little delay. or of course I can go to the crunchy or high gain tones depending on the style of music I'm playing, but this is so good that it has a built-in rechargeable battery that offers a battery life of 8 hours or so.
I don't remember it well, but it goes on and on. I love it. It's definitely one of my all-time favorite practice amps. Next up is the Mo or Mo Hornet. Now this is the white or cream version. I can also get this in other colors. I also have the black one somewhere but after moving I'm not sure where it is exactly but depending on the color of the amp it will depend on what tones you get now, this one is really cool. unit, it's not battery powered, you literally just run it off the provided power supply which plugs into the back, you get a headphone output, you also get an aux input, now the nice thing about this is there is no app connectivity and since it is With a bigger amp we get a bigger sound than others, but the nice thing about this one is that it is a digital modeling amp, but it is made with simplicity in mind, so on the top of the amp we have a panel with a bunch of different effects and presets now you can run this in live mode allowing you to just run it and not save anything or you can run it in preset mode save your presets and recall them by simply using the button on the top of this amp It is fully loaded with delay reverb and modulation effects, you can also get a really beautiful clean tone.
You can play the bass and you can also play the acoustic guitar, depending on the model you buy. I believe this is the one with the acoustic and bass option and it's as you can see from the front here, so when I first reviewed this amp it definitely didn't have the microphone placement optimized for this particular speaker. I wasn't exactly sure where it was because it's a little hard to see, but I know to feel it. In retrospect, I had the mic in the wrong place, but this sounds much better in the room than it did in my review video and I'll play a quick sample in this particular part of the video to give you a good idea. what I can do but I'm a big fan of these amps and they represent excellent value for money if you're looking for something where you don't have to worry about apps and all that sort of stuff and you don't want to be too loud this is still an excellent one option and unlike some of the smaller amps this won't be as much of a problem once you start turning up the volume with that spoken distortion so these are great.
I highly recommend them, check them out. The folks at Hagerman bring you a half-watt tube head. It's handcrafted in Honolulu, Hawaii, and it's unlike any other small watt amp, because the cool thing about it is that it actually gives you headroom, which is unheard of at half a watt. WT amp, so it's half a watt, like 0.5 watts, it's not very loud at all, but it still allows you to get a really great clean tone with that nice warm sound that tube amps are known for or of valves and allows you to also run it in any cabinet of your choice.
One of the strong points of this amp is the fact that the output to the speaker can handle just about anything, so if you have a 48 or 16 ohm speaker, this one is fully compatible. I love it, it's really cool. There's also a headphone output on the back if you want to practice that way, but I think the advantage of this is that you can run it into any cabinet you have and you'll get a beautiful clean tone. The amp also handles pedals beautifully thanks to it being a full-fledged tube amp, although the aesthetics of this one may not be for everyone.
I really like it and when I did my initial review of this, I called it the best 1 watt sub amp in the world. world and I think it is, but you are going to pay more for it because it is made in the USA and it is also an original circuit, it is not a copy of another amp or anything, one of the biggest benefits of this amp in compared to a digital modeling amp it handles pedals wonderfully as it is a real tube amp so you can run it with your favorite pedalboard or set it up, whatever the case may be, on a speaker or a two note cap X or anything if you want. record and you will get excellent tones.
You can take this amp to The Sweet Spot by simply turning the volume all the way up, it hits that kind of breakdown sound, but never overdrives like many others. low power amp so it's a great pedal platform, you can really dial this in at The Sweet Spot and then play the front end with a Clone or Blues tube driver, whatever you have, while you'll pay more for this amp that by a lot. Of the rest, if you plan to use pedals, get a tube amp, it will make a big difference when you want to run your effects on it.
We get a real 1287 in the preamp and in the power section we get a 12 bh7 and again. you get a lot of free space. I think Hagerman has done a great thing with this amp. I'll link to his store in the description box below if you've been following my channel for the last 10-15 years or so. You know, I'm a big fan of the Bugera V5 Infinium. This is another great little amp to practice at

home

for a few different reasons that I'll cover now. This amp is small, it's a real tube amp, so we get a 12x 7. in the preamp and an el84, but before I talk about the rest of the pros, I wanted to say that I found the original tubes almost unusable, they sound, they have a lot of swing, take them out andput them in a JJ set or any other brand you have.
I want to put in there and it will make a big difference regarding that tube wobble and rattle. I made that modification and it dramatically improved the overall sound quality of the amp, although it didn't change the tone of the amp that much. It completely eliminated all that wobble and rattle from the cheap Chinese tubes they put in there, so yeah, do that mod and you'll be in a happy place. Now back to the positive, so this has an 8 inch speaker and the little speaker they put in. It actually sounds pretty good, now some people find this amp not bright enough and I understand that too.
I used to use it with the tone control all the way up, but it has a really great sounding digital spring reverb, so you can get a nice reverb sound coming out of this amp, run it with pedals and voila, now this amp It's completely switchable, so at full power at 5 watts it's probably a little too high for most

home

practice situations, because if, especially, you're in an apartment. 5 watts is too loud, but you can lower it to 1 watt, which is great, or 0.1 watts, which is perfect if you just want to play at home. Now these amps have increased in price almost double since I first bought mine.
I just looked at the price. Regarding Lally, $500 Australian. I think I paid like $249 for mine back in the day, so yeah, they've gone up in price, but they're still very good, just know you'll probably have to change the power and preamp. tubes is an easy mod to make, but if yours rattles and that will be the cause of the rattle, you most likely have a really great sounding reverb and although I would have loved to have a little more high end with this amp . I still think it's a really great amp for practicing at home, and if you have an EQ pedal it's still a great choice.
It is an all-in-one amplifier that can be completely switched from 5 to 1 to 0.1 watts, so you get a very functional amplifier. and for the price it's still a pretty decent value. Next up is an amplifier that you can't find new anymore. You'll have to buy it at some used market and I'll plug it into R and see if they have any. I'm not too sure, so look at that in the description, but this is the Vox Pathfinder 15r. I had the opportunity to play one of these on two separate occasions, both in a store and at a concert, which I'll talk about in Just a Moment, but this is an all solid state amp made basically in the early 2000s and It has a legit Vox tone.
You also get a boost option and, for higher playing tones, you get two and a full EQ. It also comes with tremolo and reverb. The newer versions of these amps remove the reverb, which doesn't sound as pleasant to my ears, so if you can live without reverb, you can still buy the 15 version, but the 15r has the reverb and the reverb on these amps is phenomenal. Sometimes I don't understand why companies make those changes, it could have been a cost issue, but if you can find the 15r it's definitely worth a look, as I mentioned. I heard this amp at a concert and also had the opportunity to play it. in a Jam Set once, so this amp is 15 watts, but it has a full speaker output and we were installing it in a Fender 2x12 cabinet and it was ridiculously good for its size, so a 15 watt amp in a cabinet much larger and was completely usable.
I couldn't believe what he was saying. I thought it was a Vox 15r. It's like yes. I wonder how it sounds so good. These amps are amazing on their own, obviously with the built-in speaker. Of course, you can take them into a much larger cabinet, which opens up the versatility of what you can get from these amps and combine them with tremolo and of course the built-in reverb. You got a really great little sound. amp again you will have to find the Vox Pathfinder 15r on the used market, they just don't make them anymore and I think it is possibly one of the best small practice amps of all time, so well done Vox and bring it back with the Reverb, why the following is another practice amp from joyo.
This is your DC 15 practice amp. Now it has everything but is very simple to operate which is great. It has excellent tones across the board, possibly the best of all the digital modeling amps. You also get more headroom on this list, so you can turn this amp up a bit more for more volume if you need it, but it also sounds great at low volumes. Now it's more like a normal amplifier, we have all the controls on the top we could ever need to just dial in the sound we have in our head, so this already simplifies the whole process.
You don't need a phone, you don't need to do any of that, you can just use the amplifier. To get the best sound now, this also has a loop function, which is one of my favorite things. It was actually the feature that ended up making a couple of my friends buy them. They are like that. Looper is so good and it also comes with a channel switch so you can go from clean to your lead tone using the provided footswitch while looping or just practicing, so they created a really functional great sounding amp. It now also has a built-in amplifier. -On rechargeable battery and you can also run it of course with the power supply, so it is portable.
I remember a couple of times when the power went out when I lived in the hills and I was able to use this amp to play music or just play a tune even with the power off so that's cool too so if you want just grab this and go to busking or doing any kind of street performance, that's what we call it in Australia, this is also a very good option. it allows us to have a noise gate so that when you stop playing the amp it gradually shuts off the sound of the amp so you don't hear any kind of hum or hiss or anything coming through the speaker.
It's a really great feature, plus there are some dials. on the top of the amp to change the modulation delay and reverb, so you have hardware keys that allow you to do this. You don't have to dive back into any kind of menu system. There's an aux output on the back here so you can record nice and easy and that sounds great and I showed that in my review video. I think overall the drum machine with the Looper is amazing, so if you want a really great practice amp that has all the different tones from clean to crunch to high gain tones, this is a great choice and the Simplicity and the sound of this really spoke for itself in my review video and again, some of my good friends bought this amp and are really impressed with it so definitely check it out.
This next amp is like the big brother to the new BT Light Mark II that I showed off earlier. It has the same great connectivity and app functionality, but has more output, so it's now rated at 30 WS. 30 WS, one would expect it to be super loud and super clear throughout the volume range, which is not the case like most of these smaller practice amps. I still consider this a small amp, the built-in speakers are capped at a certain volume depending on the sound or bass response you are using, so you just have to play with the e Q per preset.
Now the nice thing about this particular amp is that on top we have a three-band EQ and a presence control so you can make this work at much higher volumes and most other amps because you can just turn the volume down. base if it is too low or if the speakers are turned to maximum. I think where this amp shines is on the back, now this can of course. be used as a dedicated audio interface, we have that option as well, but we also have one of the coolest features here, which is this speaker right in the middle, so I can power any cabinet just by plugging it in here.
I think it's an 8 ohm output so you can basically plug it into any 8 ohm speaker you have which means you can plug it into a much larger speaker and since it's a 30W amp it's plenty enough strong enough to play with him. loud and I showed it in my review video by running this on any 12 inch speaker it will sound much better than the built in speaker so if you are in a situation where you like to play at lower volumes only on a desktop like Desktop amp like this, you can use the built in speakers but if you want to rock out or jam with friends you can plug it into a much larger cab and use it as a dedicated head, this really separates it from most of the other amps on this list with the exception of the Vox Pathfinder 15r which I covered previously which has this same type of functionality, but in modern digital modeling amps like this you don't find that option very often and this is an all-in-one recording device. that USB output is phenomenal, you can get much better guitar tones recorded that way by going straight to your computer, as you could if you have experience dialing a cab, so there's a lot to like about this: you get great clean tones. dirty tones, it has all the different Under the Sun effects and is by far one of my favorite amps on this list.
I have no plans to change it. I think it's absolutely great, plus it also has a built-in battery that you can completely use. It also charges a wireless pack that I bought with this so basically you can run it wireless or a second guitar input can go directly on the front so it comes with everything except I don't know where the wireless pack part is. I used it. I recently dropped it and lost it, but yeah, this really covers all the bases when it comes to playing

electric

guitar. If you have one of these or have had the opportunity to use one, let me know what you think. of this in the comments section, this next amp you will either love it or hate it and I see all this in the comments section of my video, some people who bought this amp don't love it and other people did buy it.
It says it's the best practice amp of all time so I'm putting it on the list because I had a really positive experience with it and that's the Yamaha th 30 Mark II, now the first one. I love this desktop amp, not only does it have this great type. Retro looking, it has a backlit design, so it has a kind of LED inside the grill that looks really cool, but it also has a built-in battery so you don't have to always keep it connected to the power and it sounds great, It has a really produced guitar track sound that I really like, so whether you want to use it with an app or something, you can plug this amp in and get a really great sound in the room.
Of course, you can do that too. Like most of the other amps on this list, use it as a dedicated audio interface so you can plug it directly into your computer and get that guitar track produced right into your recording. I think in 2024 and beyond, this is by far the easiest. One way to record and also one of the most economical ways to record is to use some of these less expensive amplifiers. This one is a little more expensive, but generally speaking most of these amps sound great and sound the same if plugged directly into audio interface mode.
One of the things that really separates this amp from the rest is its simplicity. Now you can simply use one of the controls at the top or a small wheel to toggle between each of the tones you go from Clean to Crunch the High Gain. tones by just changing a button or changing a dial or whatever the case may be, so it's very easy to get the tone that you want to start with and then you can start incorporating other effects if you want, so this also has all the other effects like delays and modulations, all that kind of stuff too and it also gives you the option if you don't want to use that USB C output for recording you can go into a mixer or whatever using a left and right output at the end of the day, you're going to decide whether or not you like the retro design of this amp and if you like what you've heard from the sound samples, this amp definitely won't be for everyone and I've seen that in the comments section, so yeah, definitely do your research on this one.
You'll either love it or not, depending on the style of music you play, but I really enjoyed my time with this amp and I'll link my review video in the playlist you'll find in the description. The following is theMarshall DSL 5cr. Now I've really deliberated on which Marshall amp to put on this list because I've tried a lot of mg. style amps, those solid state and digital modeling amps sound fantastic, but I really like this for a couple of different reasons that we'll talk about now first, this is a combo, it's a full blown tube or tube amp, which is fantastic we get a 10 inch 30 speaker so this is a celestine speaker and it's quality too so you get great tone.
It's a two channel amp, so we get our clean tone and our ultra gain tone, so the ultra gain tone. It's that higher gain tone that Marshall is known for, but you can reduce the gain and still make it work, since this is a 5 watt amp, you might be thinking that a 5 watt amp with a 10 speaker inches is going to be too high, right? It has a switch on the back that allows you to reduce the power output to 0.5 watts, making it perfect for most situations where you don't want to disturb anyone, so if you are in a situation where your walls are very thin or someone lives above or below you, this could still be too much based on your overall frequency response, where you might want to go with a desktop style amplifier, but I love this if you live somewhere where you just don't want to be too loud. but if you want a great tone, this amp definitely offers this amp loaded with a really nice reverb that I think was digital for memory, much like my DSL 40cr here, but it also gives us a deep switch that can add or take away the bass , which makes it a really great recording app.
I love it, although it doesn't have the classic crunchy channel that most people love in Marshall amps. The clean and ultra gain channel at 5 watts or 0.5 watts will definitely be a lot of fun. The pedals are great too, if you're a pedal player these tube amps are definitely the way to go so that's my list of best practice amps that I've personally used so let us know if I've missed anything or if you saw something that appeared on the channel. That should have been added to this list. Let me know too. I've done everything I can for Cate, all the ones that really stood out in my mind and that were fresh in my mind, and these really are very nice, so if you have any of these or if I missed something, comment below, let us know what you think it should have been.In this list, this is based only on my personal experience with these amps and again, I haven't tried everything out there of course, but yes, if you want to try any of these amps, the I'll link below the playlist with everyone. of the amps on this list that I have reviewed are also in the description so if you want to see a full review you can check that out, thanks again for watching, my name is Shane, I'll see you soon, see you around.
