Star Wars KOTOR: Bioware's Clunky Masterpiece

Jun 07, 2021
Hello, now I have t-shirts and I was recommended to say all this at the beginning of the video, so here it is, bye, many people who were interested in games from the late 90s to 2010 knew about

bioware

in one way or another after receiving them . A fantastic amount of success with Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 and Neverwinter Knights Bioware dove into the realm of Star Wars by releasing the universally acclaimed Knights of the Old Republic in 2003, the game was praised for its writing specifically with rewards piled on it. It's time to see how well the story was told.

I remember buying the game for Xbox when I was about 12 and having fun with it, but I also remember a lot of the plot that I wasn't very familiar with went over my head. The Star Wars universe until I was 13 when episode 3 came out, so a lot of the different backstory was overwhelming. I remember being excited about the actual mechanics of the game, but much of the story escapes me even today. Since I'd like to try to figure out if this game was as good as I remember it, I don't remember much, so I'd like to do this review with semi-fresh eyes and see if it lives up to the praise it received. it evened out today, oh also spoilers, lots of spoilers, spoilers for the game itself and bits of the Star Wars franchise, if you're interested, go play all the Star Wars games and watch all the movies right now, I'll wait.

More Interesting Facts About,

I'm not going to wait ooh, as always, I don't tend to criticize the graphical quality of the game that's almost old enough to vote, but I'm going to modify this game so it doesn't look like that. Obviously I won't add anything that changes. the original story of the game, if you want to know what mods I installed, they will be in my description, anyway, jumping into the game allows you to create your character in an extremely d-esque way, this means that having eight or nine points in an attribute they give you a negative modifier of 1, 10 or 11 they give you a flat 0 and so on, on top of this you

I already loved this system and decided to play a relatively balanced but charismatic knight who has some bulk and dodge possibilities. My first instinct was to convert a large portion of my stats to strength, but one of the things I do remember is a lot of equipment that has a strength bonus, on top of this I can add some points to skills with my int set to 12 and my class set up tonight. I can really only choose a handful of skills. With the amount of points I have, I decided to focus as much as I could on persuasion, which is a maximum of two, and then dump the rest into awareness and treating injuries and finally you can choose a feat that primarily affects combat.

I decided to go for two-weapon fighting because who doesn't? The character creation is fantastic and I imagine it adds a lot of replayability to the game itself as it seems to allow you to focus on allowing you to discover a build that If you want an RPG or just suits your general play style,

t the game takes you to a very familiar opening that I have personally never enjoyed. I understand that the scrolling text is very iconic, but for some reason I always have trouble reading it when it actually starts to scroll further, although it's not so much reading as understanding it, for some reason, either way, the story takes place about 4,000 years ago.
Before the formation of the first galactic empire, the main antagonistic force that appears in the original trilogy of films in Knights of the Old Republic. The main antagonist appears to be Darth Malak who has unleashed a seemingly unstoppable wave of Sith fighters upon the Jedi order. This has cornered again with many of their knights falling or converting to the sith army our character story begins in the middle of this terrible situation on a planet known as Terrace, okay nerd, aside, we have this guy who comes in and He talks to me loudly and says, ah, we have to hurry, buddy, the officer in charge really needs help to be protected, I repeat, I really have to hurry, I work the night shift, probably why you haven't seen me , we have to hurry, they said you were the best in your class, probably the best they've ever seen, we should probably hurry up to the locker. hold the right mouse button and look the camera at him, then hold the left mouse button as well to make the character run forward, sorry, yes this was definitely made at a time when the developers thought What is the most natural hand? position you can think of wscz mate, I actually end up dragging the camera with my mouse like an mmo, which is definitely better than just using wasd to move while keeping the camera stationary, it's not a deal breaker or anything, just it's different but yeah this whole initial part is definitely less of an immersive experience and more of a little voice in my head saying you're playing a video game no big deal actually honestly once I found some of the parts more tutorials a little fun in a way. box is selected, left click on it again to perform the default action.
That's how this game works. You'll usually participate in some sort of party and can swap with the other members of your party to use the various skill sets to progress throughout the game, in addition to this the combat looks incredibly similar to something like a Older mmo where you target your enemy and start using whatever skills or abilities you have at your disposal to defeat them. This is an incredibly dated game. system that has almost no place in most modern video games, I imagine the combat would baffle many newcomers to the game just because of how archaic it looks and feels personally, I thought I would care a lot more than I do, it's probably the hundreds of hours I've immersed myself in world of warcraft and dragon age beyond this, menus and the general way you use things tend to be fixed by clicking on whatever you want to use, this covers looting, healing and in Overall, access to any of your menus I feel like this game would be a lot worse without the pause feature, so it's lucky it exists so I can think about what I want to do when I get sick of seeing my character having power attacks.
The actual story of this ship isn't very good yet obviously since it's all a tutorial, you fight these bright guys and then you get to a moment where a jedi is fighting a dark jedi and they both get upset. Here it's like, wait, don't do it. get close to those guys you'll just get in the way they're too powerful and then another dark jedi shows up like he's about to drop 3956 bby's most popular album and old trash is like okay back off son, I'm about to have the most anticlimactic death since Ben Kenobi, so we're nearing the end of our walkthrough.
I have a burst attack. Now this guy named Karth keeps showing up to tell me what my status is in Battle Royale. Things are nice. normal, then you can get into hacking and repairing, which is pretty easy, basically you need to have some computer pickaxes or repair kits to hack computers or fix broken things, if your skills are high enough in the use category or computer repair, it takes less of these tools to do what you're trying to do Hi Dave, yes, did you try the coffee this morning? Yeah, he was pretty weak, right? I've been telling everyone I came for this and they just won't do anything anytime soon. rate bastille managed to get off the karth ship and i did the same and i wake up and he tells me what's going on.
We are now on the planet Terrace, which is under complete Sith control. Our mission is to locate Bastila and do our best. to break the sith blockade and run out of this place apparently she is so important because of her rare strength ability to inspire her allies to fight their hardest and her enemies to feel a sense of helplessness during battles clue. This ability is known as battle. meditation and requires an enormous amount of concentration and energy to achieve, which explains why she was unable to use it during the sudden ambush. Qarth also says our best bet is to search for it in the Undercity, as some escape pods are rumored to have landed. has reached your ears, the terrace itself used to be a wonderful metropolis of a sprawling planet, but now it has fallen into disarray that gets worse and worse with dangerous and criminal elements as you progress and the bottom is full of monsters.
Great, what I will say about how the dialogue is handled is that it's very confusing. I'm not sure if he's just Karth's voice actor or the direction they gave him, but a lot of his sentences feel like he's completely unsure of what he's saying or what he said. a stranger intonation than one would expect given the sentence, it is obvious that Malik is a ruthless tyrant who will crush anyone who stands in his way just as the reverend did with the experience of knowing that this voice actor is equal to Caden and Mass Effect, I guess it was probably on the Bioware side anyway, I can finally start wandering around and exploring, I talk to different humans and aliens terrorize people by breaking into their apartments and stealing whatever is in their rooms and I learn a little more about the terrace, says this merchant. about what quarantine is really like with business, which has much more relevance in today's world.
The biggest thing I noticed about the dialogue is that it's very cyclical, you basically ask her about the crashed escape pods and then she tells you about them and then she mentions that they might have been hit by swoop gangs, then you ask her what they are and she he tells you that they're swoop gangs, they just like to swoop and grab, and one gang uses swoop bikes, it's brilliant, then at the end he mentions that a guy called davic is having problems with everything he throws at him. you ask about davic and she explains that he's a big crime lord, you ask her if she works with the sith and she says no, he stays out of the way unlike those damn gangs and then you have the option to ask what that is again, then you ask her for general information about the terrace and she tells you things you mostly already know and ends with, but stay out of the lower city because those raid gangs are there, even Devic is having problems and the whole conversation goes repeat if you let it, I guess it's a good way to get all the information while going in pretty much any order you want, but the problem is that when you get all the information, the game repeats itself. points several times, but honestly, this wouldn't even be that big of a problem if it weren't for that damn swoop gang exploring the terrace some more and leading me to the cantina, which has a jazz tune, this wasn't what I signed up when I read the word cantina, the main draw here at the beginning is the game of pizaak which is basically head to head blackjack with a little twist, the game itself is just luck and the twist of allowing you to play cards that add or subtract of your score may be and I say that as someone who repeatedly wiped out the supposed terrace pizaak champion, it's a fun minigame, although honestly and I think that's what counts here, I mean who doesn't like blackjack besides .
In Blackjack 2 there is an off-duty Sith officer who seems surprised that you took the time to talk to her. I try to woo her with my persuasion and she says, "Oh, you're a good guy too. Okay, okay, then." I didn't think screwing up a persuasion check where it's literally just me empathizing with her would make me a complete asshole. What's even more fun is the fact that all I have to do to succeed is try again when I talk to her through her speech. cycle, this gives me the knowledge that there will be some kind of sith party afterwards when they are done, I don't know, oppressing people for the day, apparently now I'm invited to this party, which actually sounds pretty fun, it was quite an interaction interesting that it makes some of the sith officers seem more human, don't get me wrong, she also goes on about being on a shitty secluded planet and how people should be grateful that they're here so it's not like I'm sitting around.
I'm thinking, huh, maybe they're actually good guys, but it's nice to see them in a more approachable light. The last notable part of the cantina is the fighting arena. First you watch two guys fight and then you get your own shot every time. If you win, you get 10 from the bets unless you can persuade Jabba Junior to part with more. The first two rounds are not a problem. The third one is harder and then Joffrey Grand Master of the Blades comes in and just destroys me, so yeah. I'm going to postpone that, we're going to a sith party,Watch out, sauna, that one has quite the effect, a couple more bottles and we'll all pass out on the floor, who cares?
We won't be on duty tomorrow, let's live this a little. The game is honest to god, unintentional comedy, I mean, maybe their sudden appearance on the floor was intentional, but I like to think they just didn't want to animate a scene where they pass out on the floor while partying, still It `s hilarious. Sith armor set of this which is useful for fooling the local population. I really like it since most people react to you completely differently now, including this guy who cowers before me like a sith trooper and then cowers before me like a normal guy.
Because he thinks I'm there to kill him for a bounty that Davik put on his head, I give him $200 from Walmart to help him, which gives me some good guy points and experience. The main importance to collect the Sith armor is to avoid the guard that is at the entrance of the lower city now I can enter and hopefully reach where the bastille is, it is at the beginning of the lower city where you will be able to witness how two swoop gangs fight each other yes before eliminating the winners. From here you reach another cantina with exactly the same design to another cabin.
Lying in a room you first meet this absolutely badass bounty hunter, Kalo Nord, who annihilates a group of thugs who try to start him off instead of talking, he only counts when he reaches three, they all die well and it turns out that Kelo does the same. For me too, even though I approach him as a friend, the guy is no joke beyond this, you learn that Davik supposedly has a ship fast enough to break through the Sith blockade, but the self-targeting lasers with those your navy is equipped with would still eliminate. the ship, this tells me that I probably need to steal or gain that ship from davic and at the same time close the laser defenses.
The most important thing here is to complete the mission and his Wookie friend, the mission Zalbar has a strange name, but it seems like he is a fun character. He is younger but he knows the lower town in and out, as he seems to be a rogue guy who gets into a lot of trouble. Zalbar is his muscle following her and he seems primarily interested in eating. She gives you some basic knowledge on how to both. The gangs fought each other before jumping into another cantina run by another gang, then you will be able to witness the inspiration behind the dance and connect Star Wars by helping this lady who is trying to get a job, but if I have learned Something about This game is that when someone is proclaimed dangerous, they usually are.
I really like it because my initial instinct as someone who's playing is to go, yeah, I can take them on with no problem in this game if I start something. with a tough guy you can bet your ass they'll destroy me if I don't level up properly. It's a very old style of play and I really enjoy it until now. I'm definitely enjoying the game, but the gameplay has gotten old. horribly, very horribly, while I want to move on to the next part to advance the story, I find myself a little irritated by slowly walking to the next area, every now and then I get into a fight and then continue slowly and it sucks because every time I get to the next part of the story or a random encounter.
I'm pretty enthralled with whoever I end up meeting and talking to. I could definitely see myself emphatically loving the game if it were remastered with a new combat and movement system and a less

clunky

UI, okay? I'm hit with a veritable avalanche of information in the next stage of this mission: first we meet this really confident guy who's the head of a faction down here that's been having a lot of trouble with the gang that's been terrorizing the underdogs and In Town. , tells me that the capsules that crashed here were collected and cleaned by the gang and that Bastila has been taken hostage as a slave, since she is not an ordinary slave, and is being published as a prize for whoever wins the next big bike race, so now we have to participate in this race and win on behalf of this guy's faction so that the Volkart gang will lose enough reputation to hopefully prevent them from attacking these guys for a while longer, but the Volkars stole her accelerator prototype and without it we're probably going to lose the race, so I have to find the mission again and have her guide me to the back entrance of the base, steal the prototype and win the race, but to get there to the Undercity I have to pass the Sith guard who apparently doesn't care about the uniforms and I do care about the archaic paper that has been stamped with a general.
You can pass through this part of the city. Luckily, this guy got some of the papers and is willing to trade them for my uniform. This is like an old point and click king quest game, old school quest structure aside, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why the security system isn't completely reversed, like per Why would the Sith care if I tried to get to the worst part? of the city, why wouldn't they be protecting the upper part more? I don't know, maybe I'm missing something besides Karth loves to inject little jokes of information into the conversations you have, but the quest giver.
She never actually acknowledges anything she says, it's like, they take this republic officer hostage and Karth is like, "Oh well, they don't know she's more than just an officer, I guess she's supposed to." be whispering, I don't know, shit is weird, well, the underground city." It's as disgusting as it looked the game looks like an unfinished beta map the monsters mentioned above are known as rack ghouls these are basically zombie type creatures that infect others by biting them and eventually turn them into other rack ghouls that also hit like a truck anyway, I find Mission who is in a bit of trouble.
Her Wookie friend from earlier was captured by slavers who took over the sewers and Mission promises to help me infiltrate Volkar's base in exchange for getting him out. She also joins my group, that is. Definitely necessary at this stage, her usefulness goes beyond being a good marksman, as she can pass through doors and disarm mines quite easily, almost completely outclassing Karth. Luckily, we make our way through the sewers fairly easily and pick up Zalbar as another cursing party member. a life debt to me that makes him loyal to me forever so I throw in Karth and we have a real party now from here it's a little more of the same with the added bonus of a rancor in its natural habitat, a pit to get over it It's easy if you know how to read;
Otherwise, it may take you a little while to learn how to read the data panel that tells you to refill the pile of corpses with a grenade and some yum yum sauce. After this is the Volkar base followed by the garage, thank goodness. I have allies who are much more powerful than me because I have severely underestimated the ability to hit with dual-use rules. Luckily I started investing some feats to make it better, but yeah, my character isn't the most powerful here and probably won't be. Until the middle of the game the gameplay is pretty harrowing at this point as you need to click on everything multiple times to get it to work and the environment is one of the ugliest I've seen in a long time, plus the alt-tabbing gives us has converted a couple of us. here at pseudo-silver surfers, so I was wondering when I would find the dark side option for this quest or if there was one.
It turns out that there is a superior guy for the vulcars here who offers me 500 credits and the girl does. Face the leader of the hidden backs and kill him. I'm sitting here thinking, gee, that sounds a lot easier than winning a race, but then he says yes, but you also have to win the race. Basically, we will only give you the good bike. To win, I decided to make this guy's armor glow too and then give him the old cut and run, okay, blah blah blah, run around the base slowly, blah blah, now we're running, the race isn't, um, not very impressive, I mean.
It doesn't compare to how this whole race thing was constructed in my mind, but you know what, I really had fun. The mechanics are very simple, but I liked it anyway. The leader of the volkars comes out and gets angry because I cheat and then. He says that she will take Basila as a prize and then Basila comes out of the cage because I don't know, she remembered that she is a Jedi, maybe she was a little sleepy before, no, I don't understand it's very convenient, that's it. all. whatever, we kill the guy and then I have the pleasure of talking to my least favorite character in the game so far, Bastila is a completely pompous Jedi.
I know she's written to be insufferable and I'm sure she'll get over it. some character arc that makes her more tolerable, but god, she's an idiot, oh well, she tries to rescue me, but I'm afraid I've rescued myself by that little-known thing called the force, maybe you've heard of it , at least Karth doesn't say. with her shooting her power range to a more respectable place, okay, we have to get off the terrace before I go crazy and just as I leave the apartment, someone approaches me with an offer to meet with the right hand of davic to find out how to do that.
Kandras here hasn't been paid what he's owed, so he's a little upset with Davic. He wants me to steal the codes to turn off the Sith lasers and then he'll take me to break in. the sith base I need to buy a specialized droid to help me, fortunately one of the great advantages of having bastila is its ability to increase speed, which makes all this running back and forth twice as fast before facing us to the sith base. A little more stuff in the arena that ends with me being the champion. You can find one of the old champions from when the arena allowed deathmatches and fight him too with the added bonus of him being a bounty target, but I suck so let's do it. the sith on the other hand, yeah yeah, running through the base is basically the same as before, so I'll go straight to the good things waiting at the end of this base.
He is a sith governor. He looks like he's going to be a piece of cake at first, but. he then he starts using the force to stun my party and heal himself. The guy is pretty tough and this is really the fight that made me realize how much I need to change the other members of my party to make sure they are using the right skills. to knock it down even this far where I know it's not that far, I'm still learning through experimentation, I think it's a great way to approach otherwise simple shallow gameplay and it's probably the most fun I've ever had.
In one of these battles, after this, I arrive at Kandarus and we advance to Davik's base with me pretending to be a potential recruit. Well, that plan lasts all five minutes, as I immediately figure out where the codes for the ship are and we blow up. Outside this place on our way out, the dark lord Malik has decided to destroy the terrace planet in an effort to kill Bastila, this means that Davic is also trying to escape with the badass from before Kalonord, well, not Kalo It is so important. tough at this promoted level and we have no problem eliminating him.
This results in an escape sequence where I shoot ships with a turret. It is obsolete. I'm sure it was an incredibly cool feature back in 2003, but now it's extremely lackluster and feels the same. It's more out of place than the bike race, but we eventually make it off the tutorial planet and onto Dantooine. Okay, how many pages of script do we have here? Six great ones and how many more planets. Ah, okay, this video may be a little long, but. You knew it, so my boy has been seeing all these visions, memories of Bastila fighting the Dark Lord Revan and supposedly defeating him.
He also sees Revan and Malik approaching something known as the Star Forge in the ancient ruins of this planet, which is a vision he shares with Bastila. In addition to this, I apparently have a strong presence of the Force within me. This is very unusual and my destiny is to stay with the jedi council on dantooine may the force be with you and also with you so I begin my training, train, learn to use the force, seek knowledge of ancient scriptures, you know, jedi, it explains how revan and malik were students Highly enthusiastic Jedi whose insatiable lust for knowledge and power led them to the dark side, something happened when they left to eradicate a Mandalorian. threat to the Jedi order and corrupted them to the point that they surrendered to the dark side Now that my training is about to be completed my task is to join Bastille to discover what Revan and Malik found in the runes here on Dantooine, but first I have to do it.
I pass a pop quiz, I fail it five times before forcing my way in, but then we get to the good stuff, lightsaber flavors, you have your fresh mint flavor that spawns the path of the guardian, they do melee stuff, then you have your cheeto flavor, which represents the sentinel is about interesting skills andfinally you have the taste of the shamrock shake no one wants that I want purple oh well you know we're going to turn blue so I grabbed my saber and now the last part of my test is Go to some kind of nearby grove and expel the dark force energy that resides within her before coming out.
I learn a little more about what happened with Revan and Malik. Revan was supposedly a military tactical genius who led the Republic fleet to victory after victory when the Mandalorians moved into the weakened order after a war with a rogue Sith lord. Ultimately, Revan more or less won the war for the Jedi and was hailed as a hero, then he disappeared with the entire fleet and rumors arose about sightings of him on various planets. Malik, when he returned, commanded an even larger armada before, as a Sith Lord, many of the ships were completely unrelated to the Jedi order and the Sunnis began conquering everything in sight, put down only by Basil's strike team. when he fell, Malik, less inclined to strategy, took control.
Rolling through the republic with numbers instead of tactical brilliance. My main takeaway here is that Sith Lords always have super evil sounding names before they become Sith Lords because of all the training I've endured and wisdom I've absorbed. It took me 20 minutes to realize that I needed to talk to a droid to get out of this place. I'm not sure what that says about me, but it can't be good, so Dantooine is a grassy farmland type planet with various family mansion type things around it. In the area, I could run straight to the target and take care of it, but there are a few side quests that appear beforehand, such as helping a woman find her droid, which appears to have opened the front door and walked away despite her claims that it was. was kidnapped, then there are some Mandalorian survivors who have been terrorizing random families and demanding money from them and finally there is a murder mystery involving two men who claim the other killed the victim.
I analyze it, first determining that both men planned to kill the victim separately, the first because his wife was cheating on him with the victim and the second because she suspected that the victim was him in a business deal. It's interesting because I really thought there were I have no interest in the side quests in this game, especially when a lot of them are presented as something like "ah, these guys are killing us, help", but a lot of them have a lot more complexity to them. the one they initially present on the surface and many of them.
I have a choice between the light and dark side, they are quite well done and really make me enjoy the main quest delay. The final test I face involves defeating this Jedi who recently turned to the dark side. She's just sitting near these trees. Looking menacingly ahead of, uh, I don't know, plants and animals, after getting her down enough, she goes on to say how she was so foolish to trust in the power of the dark side and how she should kill her. I finally convinced her that she should go talk. to the council and apologize the council says yeah sure whatever and I become a padawan what bothers me about the council is how little they seem to do yeah I'm sure they all have their own jobs but they preach about how a jedi really he discovers himself and his role in the universe by going out into the world and solving problems for others, basically like oh, a Jedi isn't a real Jedi unless they do things and then they just sit here and hang out. around the facility, I mean, I'm sure at least one or two of them are needed to hang out and answer questions and guide the students, but I don't know all of them.
This passive behavior even affects the next main mission they are on. Yeah, so we sent a Jedi to find out what's up with those runes that Revan and Malik entered in your dream and he never came back, maybe we shouldn't have sent him anyway, you want to go to those ruins like, dude, why not? Are you going to those runes that a Sith Lord researched? So a guy walks in from one of the two family mansions and leaves, the other family kidnapped my son and the council leaves, so you want to do that too, dude, what the hell is it? everyone else they're doing in this place, yeah yeah, I know it's a video game and I know it's just a way to present the mission, but man, the game does a pretty good job of explaining some of the glaring contradictions, like how this prodigy of a jedi was ambushed. and he couldn't use her battle meditation because of that, so all the problems in dantooine seem to be stacked on the player.
I guess a lot of it is just my feelings on how slow the Jedi order is moving in general, these idiots watched as all these planets around their planets were taken over by the Mandalorians and were like yeah but those aren't our planets we don't have They had to do it and then were shocked when the Mandalorians gathered all their strength and started smoking them, I know they were. I just came out of a war, but I almost agree with Revan's methodology of fighting back at them. I mean, yeah, the guy turned to the dark side, but before that he got the job done.
It just seems ridiculous to me that even when the Mandalorians began their assault the council was still like uh maybe we should play this defensively you ding dongs the jedi order are basically bronze level starcraft players the whole situation with the two families is pretty simple first one kidnapped the other son because they thought the other had kidnapped their kidnapped son the son doesn't want to leave without the kidnapper's daughter because he loves his comedy you are still there shen father sir mitali rohesha father sir sandro holland but the really interesting part is the search main thing apparently this star forge that revan and malik found is some kind of ancient device capable of tremendous power.
It was speculated that this forge was what created the alien ships that Revan flew over the guardian robot. Here we are told that the forge was crafted on Dantooine by slaves who were commanded by a race known as the Builders. After the forge was completed, all the slaves were executed and this guardian robot silently watched the driven grounds of creation. By the power of the star forge. This thing and the race that built all of this is apparently over 20,000 years old, even older than the republic to get to the area where the forge is supposedly located, I have to solve some puzzles and answer some questions correctly, they're pretty easy, but all of this It's definitely intriguing when I get to the center of this tootsie pop, it's not the star forge that awaits me, but a map with its possible location awaits me.
The map highlights several planets that Revan and Malek were spotted on at one point, meaning we have a treasure trail to follow at this stage. Bastila shows a little more interest in you, which is exactly what she is. the direction I imagined his character would take is a little less cold and a little more direct and he wants to know exactly what it means to have his destiny tied to yours his score goes up a few points anyway now I can determine what order I want to hit these planets in and give him shape my game, all i really know is that i want to get to the sith world of korriban last to start.
I'm at a stalemate with tatooine and kashic, but ultimately I think tatooine would be the best bet because I recognize it from other Star Wars media, so I go out and witness a cutscene showing Malik talking to his best man and Kallonord, who apparently he somehow managed to get off the terrace after being buried in rubble during a Sith attack, yeah, okay, he'll obviously be hunting us. a little more when i get to tatooine i communicate with my whole team and learn a little more about them bastille talks about dark side stuff catgirl talks about it too big z talks about someone eating our food supply qarth talks about not trusting me in absolute, which seriously damages his ranking candris talks about living for the thrill of battle like all mandalorians do and this robot goes beep boop i couldn't find the big blue one but i could find this stowaway who's been eating our food his language It's thorough and it takes a bit to understand exactly what he's saying, but it sounds like he's a stowaway who feels safe on the ship and escaped Mandalorian custody, potentially on Dantooine, we'll deal with that later, let's go out into this desert. , I am greeted by a space Walmart worker who is trying to extort me for 100 credits, I convince him to get out of it after a few failed attempts and then I ask him what is going on around here, apparently Tatooine is considered to be a Zerka corporation that settled here after were tricked by a rival company made him think it was going to be a profitable business and he has been struggling ever since, the most profitable things you can do here now are hunt exotic creatures and deliver your trophies participate in pod races, bike races swoop and bounty hunter in general, zerka.
The corporation has completely locked down the entire place, flooding it with layers of bureaucracy and corporate greed. It is necessary to have a hunting license to leave the city that they control and sell. They are in the middle of a mineral extraction that is rapidly deteriorating and almost useless. and yet they still try to sell it, they make all their workers sign waivers, ensuring that they have no responsibility for loss of life on the job, they are just whole in every sense of the word right now, so many people are on licenses of hunter that They are no longer giving them out, except almost at the same time this corporate drone tells me that he will give me one if I sign a contract to eliminate a particular tribe of sand people outside the city wall, which is racist .
I could block the way. I get to the main objective relatively quickly at this stage, but as always the side quests are engaging, they include trying to infiltrate and negotiate peace with the sand people, which I imagine could also lead me to the main quest and then I can help this one out. hunter whose wife. He trapped him with his own droids and let him die and I can finally protect myself from the waves of sand people that are attacking the Zerka miners. Many of these are short and sweet, but the negotiation piece seems to be the most important at first, no one really can. communicate with the sand people, it is rumored, however, that there is a droid sold in a shop here that can easily take on hk47, the most evil character that can join my party so far, it is a combat droid witty that he doesn't quite remember. all about him, the shop owner wants 5000 credits for him, but it can be reduced to 3000 if you negotiate, he will take another 500 if you threaten him, but that would be bad and dark, oh god, well I don't have that kind. of money, so I earn it by running and come back.
HK might be one of my favorite group members solely because he's basically a voice actor, but since he drinks less, he lies when necessary, sometimes he sarcastically calls me master and it's the first thing he offers to do. for me after buying it it's killing someone and he gets mad when i look into his circuits to try to fix it and fail, he's a good guy, well i don't mean literally but you know he's cool so there's the mission. So I covered all the basics with his background, but throughout my adventures I asked him about his family.
His main support system was his older brother, Griff, who helped keep them as safe as possible when their parents died. Even though she talks about him, it sounds more like he's a total bastard who puts her in a box to smuggle her, scams people and gets rich quick, steals from whoever he can, and finally abandons her on the terrace mission. , he doesn't blame his brother and instead claims that a busty slut lured him in and told him to keep her away from them. We finally meet said vixen on Dantooine and she seems to be very kind, almost motherly, towards the mission, of course, she could just be a ruse, but she is a very good actress.
If this is the case, she claims that Griff was the one who told her that he didn't buy the mission a ticket off the planet and explained that she felt the mission was holding them back. Eventually, Lena left him on Tatooine while he tried to get rich quick with someone else. way of explaining how badly he fell for the mission, while the Zerka drone from earlier informs me that Griff signed up for his mining team before being taken by the sand people as his prisoner. The most peculiar thing that happens with the mission is that she is not naive about how her brother can be given overwhelming evidence and opinions from other people we have spoken to about him.
She went from he would never do all that to calling him a slime ball and of course she still wants to help him. So I thought we should get to that along with the whole San infiltration thing. We also know that the star map is around one of these caves here from a dream Bastille and I shared that may have also been looted by the sand people. As much as it seemed like there were a lot of randomly placed quests on Tatooine, I have toAdmittedly, I like how most of it is tied together in a way so that sneaking into the sand people area of the map isn't too difficult.
We don some disguises and are recognized as outsiders when we arrive, but some hurried hk47 translations help in a pinch, shall I destroy it now? Master, the chief thinks we are messing with them and asks us to bring them something. water vaporizers to prove our worth, to which I forced myself to walk to the beginning of the map. I realized I could have gone straight back to the ship and then run all the way back. He's amazed we're back and promises to cut back. After the attacks, he gives me his tribal stick that Zerka wanted as proof that I killed him, he points me in the direction of the star map and then tells me that I can take Griff since he is completely useless as a hostage, like I said. .
I love it when everything comes together, he feels like all that effort is much more rewarding. Well, Griff is, without a doubt, the most important piece in the game, now instantly and completely surpassing Bastila at the beginning of the game and saying, "Oh, I am." I'm glad my sister is alive. She say you have credits. Remind me to play this game on the dark side again. At least Mission realizes how bad your brother has been after all this time. Okay, now we have to get this star map. Heck, outside of this desert, this requires you to take down a gigantic dragon, which in turn requires you to take it to some mines, which in turn requires you to attract some banta, which in turn requires you to use something of fodder to do so.
I already bought the fodder at the beginning of the area because it was a credit and there was only one in stock. It seemed important. As much as you might expect a fight with a weaker dragon, the mines actually do all the work. I get a Pearl, which is great for upgrading my lightsaber, some other nice gear, and of course the star map at the end of the cave. As I'm leaving, Kallonord appears again, who proves once again that he's not that tough. He seemed to be at first, hopefully he's really dead this time. It's worth noting that there was a part earlier where I asked Bastila about his background as a Jedi.
She admits that she didn't actually kill Revan, but curiously, Malik trained the starship's cannons on him. Revan's ship almost kills her and instead kills Revan. I find this interesting mainly because of how much has been said about Revan at this point. Everything about him was said to be brilliant and it makes me wonder if he's really dead or not. Okay, let's leave this. rock yeah you remember that turret section it happens more than once in fact I head to the trading post in Yevon to grab some equipment and have to take down more ships and then I have to do the exact same thing on the way Return to Dantooine.
It really sucks and feels like one of those things that was incorporated into the game because it's a Star Wars thing. It's a very bad decision that's worse than the combat. What's also become quite annoying is that Bastila insists on the dark side and does it. easy it is to fall prey to him. I swear we've had three separate conversations about what The Dark Side is and how anyone can get carried away by its siren song and how we need to be better than that and blah blah blah, but it's all offset by the glorious crystal of purple lightsaber I found on Tatooine.
My game is. complete, I also leave that stowaway and don't get attacked on my way to Kashuk, which is good, Kashuk is a Wookiee homeworld, as Mish helpfully reminds me when he tells me that the big z has some unfinished business here, so I grab him and tells me that his brother was the one who allowed the slavers to set up camp here. He was so angry that he used his claws to hit his brother, which is taboo among Wookiees since claws are considered tools, not weapons, so he was exiled. father thinks his brother is above himself, zurka corporation drones are generally horrible as always and have no problem with wookiee slavery here, meanwhile the mission has forgotten what zalbar looks like while letting me know that you would love to see the trees here, weird.
I think the worst thing about this place might be that the atmosphere sounds like there's very light xylophone type music and then there's this loud, crazy buzzing of insects and animals singing and all that, and it's very annoying and it gets worse later with these little monkeys running around, there's also the dialogue when I arrive at the Wookiee base of operations, I mean, yeah, they're Wookiees, they're not going to speak universally in a basic way, but it also makes the scene exchanges with my voiceless character something just like um, so. Again, if my character was fully voiced he would be doing the exact same thing and that would be absolutely hilarious anyway, this is Zalbar's brother, he is unapologetically one of the greatest in the game, he just tells you yeah, so I sold some. of our people into slavery by weapons I got my brother kicked out of the village by spreading my story of him attacking me with his claws and then I saw how the village chief, our father, went and tried to fight the slavers, that guy was probably killed anyway. the chieftain now and I'm still swapping our people with zerko while we pretend we're putting up a good fight against them, he's just one of those obnoxiously evil characters, though not to the point where he just wants everyone to die or something. that it's all just personal gain for him anyway he wants to keep zelbar here for a while and he sends me to kill a wookie who has supposedly gone crazy and is hiding in the shadowlands.
I doubt the guy is really crazy and I hope I can recruit him to come back and destroy these guys, as easy as it is to write a selfish character who makes everyone else miserable. It's a super effective way to make the player want to take them down. This brings us to our next partner, Jolie. Bindo, easily the funniest name to say in the game, Jolie is a grumpy old Jedi who's been living here in Kashuk for the last decade or two. He is also voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, who has acted extensively for a multitude of games and other media, he is a good character who doesn't seem to want to talk much about himself, but seems quite unhappy with Zerka's existence on the planet. .
He also doesn't care too much about discussing all the light side, dark side and nuances. the force I like, honestly I'm a little tired of hearing about it and I started giving Bastille a shout out when she mentions it, which has actually made her a little more endearing to me anyway, my task is to eliminate A camp of Zurka's employees who have barricaded themselves near Jolie's house their commander doesn't care to move at all and just wants to poach the creatures around the camp. The soldiers under her control, on the other hand, are quite miserable. Fortunately, they can be persuaded to give me the codes for these little devices that keep all the larger beasts at bay, of course they all have the exact same dialogue trees to get the codes from them, but you only need to shut down two of them. devices before this large load arrives and effectively dislodges them. from the area and allowing you to progress further into the shadowlands, Kashuk is interesting because it seems much more linear in terms of quest progression, where tatooine and dantooine had you stumbling into a side quest here or there, there seemed to be kasich. all collected in the shadowlands area of the map, for the most part these involve a droid with records of an Azerk boy on top killing people who owed him money, a beast summoned by a ritual that killed a Jedi in a moment and a group of Mandalorians. who have apparently been attacking Wookiees guarding their weapons, the latter actually conflicts pretty harshly with Candarus' version of Mandalorian culture.
He seemed to be pretty adamant about how Mandalorians are fight-seeking, honor-bound people who live for battle. I have no idea why they're doing it, the data panel on one of the corpses shows that someone ordered them to do this to learn how to use Jedi weaponry and they seem to be pretty bored with it at this point, the beast. what killed the jedi also seems particularly interesting to me since I was warned about these types of beasts on dantooine, they are supposedly created when the dark side of the force is in full effect and are known to be very dangerous to jedis, particularly to the advice. sent three jedis to exterminate these beasts after the last war with the sith lord exarcoon and apparently the one who was devoured here had gotten into a heated argument with the other two about the fact that they openly loved each other and stormed off to this planet. . instead and scored 8, but not before apparently giving in to that emotion of pride that the dark side so often exudes, but more so to the bulk of the quest for this planet, so the star map here is protected by some type of AI that has been directed to give the coordinates only to an individual it deems to match the parameters set by its creator after some further interrogation, it is quite likely that this creator was speeding up.
He identifies me as someone who can access his functions, but only if I pass. a test to test myself a series of questions is asked with only one correct answer each time these questions involve a prison scenario where I can send zalbar to prison for five years and go free if he doesn't charge me also another scenario where I can leave having my city be attacked in 5 days to exploit an enemy's weakness in 10 days and a scenario where my nation is stagnant and what I would do to prevent my civilians from questioning my leadership after failing the first question, it becomes very obvious that He would have to answer them in a way that a sith would pass the rest of the questions and gain access to the star map.
Now I know this will probably be the big twist of the game, but I've been thinking about this since I saw the scene where Bastila unmasks Revan. I guess I'm Revan. If that's correct, it's probably pretty easy to say I just looked it up, but there's a lot of evidence pointing towards this theory. So far, there's the very existence of my character as this ultra-intelligent soldier who suddenly emerged and now has very powerful access to the force, there's a big bastila face during the scene where Revan is unmasked and now there's this AI that has clearly been programmed by Revan to identify a particular person with As cunning and ruthless as Revan has been introduced, I imagine the chances of him allowing a random person access to the star map are probably a solid zero. percent, it's all speculation right now, but it's what I'm thinking right now, okay, let's finish it.
First of all, on this planet I found Huge Z's father wandering around here and we beat each other's butts, after this we give him the sword that was found on the beast that killed the jedi before, since it was some kind of legendary sword that He used his best warrior. An eternity ago, he returned to confront his son and I did the same when we arrived. Zalbar basically says yes, so I know my brother enslaved my people and betrayed both me and my father, but he's been making some crazy, compelling arguments. while you were away, what no, he hasn't, I don't need to be here to know how simple his arguments are.
I think this was a very lazy way to shoehorn in a dark side response and it really echoes my sentiment about this entire planet. Honestly, I like the revenge story with Zalbar and his family. I like the depiction of Zurka being the scum of the galaxy. What I don't like is how simple Zalbar's brother's reasoning has been. I don't like the misty forest in the background of this. planet, especially when you consider that the terrace had something of a grudge deep down and nothing even remotely rivaled that here, even though the shadowlands were considered a really dangerous area and as I mentioned before, I hated these Stupid monkeys constantly making the exact same sound over and over again during every little bit of Shadowlands exploration, right, I mean, holy shit, no one mentioned this during playtesting, anyway, I obviously get on the side.
Freyr's side and then I ask them to talk about their differences. Zelbar's brother puffs out his chest. like a gorilla and says no we'll fight now okay man well whatever the end result is for me as the wookies start killing off the remaining zurka forces here between planet changes there's another evil scene in the who is disappointed by the failure of Callow Nord, it's like um. you know, in dk64, where k-rool gets angry every time he sees one of his bosses die to the kongs, not cool, sorry, anyway, then bring in the next boss, darth brandon, without the r, You can tell he's serious because he destroys one of the ship's consoles along with one of the soldiers here, I guess they were both totally expendable because Malik won't give up.
I return to Tatooine to see if another box dragon appears. I doubt it a little, but I want another pearl for my other sword.light much later. We meet with Bastila's mother and learn of the death of her father. We go out to look for his holocron and return it to him. Well, here comes the big bad bandon ready to die in the same place where Calendar died. I must admit I saw another set of space. Bikes parked here forever are kind of fun if Malik sends another thug after me. I'm going back to the beginning of Skavon, so yeah, we sorted out the issues between Basler and her mother and now I care a little about her, damn it,

bioware

.
I think we should have some privacy for this, come with me, so Manon is a big water planet, it's like an ocean, plus some man-made structures that litter parts of it. We arrive in a big shell and they don't harass me for docking fees. for zurka for once, which is nice when i get inside i can see a republic officer and a sith officer saying to each other that his father could hit the other's father. I think that's one of the most interesting parts of this universe because there's obviously, the republic dictated the planets and the sith, but manon in particular is a neutral planet that forbids the two of them from fighting each other, so the two forces They go about their respective business and have to be close to each other, the reason why neither side has not done so. dominated the planet is thanks to this super powerful healing agent called kolto, the manon fish built this large center over the water so they could sell to both sides and threaten to destroy the only known source in the galaxy if either side attacks. them is pretty smart, although this republic officer assumes that the sith will probably try to do something to take the planet anyway, it's definitely an interesting scenario to say the least, especially with the entire planet being one of water, I just hope that this doesn't evolve into some kind of water exploration combat no one likes water levels they just like the idea of them oh if you don't know where it is go north from here and then south past the port officer in the first courtyard, towards the east, towards the second. courtyard then north and then east again you have to have a nice stay jedi master so manan is definitely the prettiest planet so far maybe period since koriban is a sith world full of volcanic activity it has this giant glass front which looks out onto an endless ocean and looks really cool even today, the problem is that this place has been filled with large amounts of nothing until now.
I mean, a desert on Tatooine makes sense that there wouldn't be much to it, but even then there was quite a bit to interact with. here on manon i ran into a pazak player, a bazaar card seller, and a guy who basically repeats the idea that this planet houses both sith and republic forces, oh and more groups of sith and republic officers basically they say that their side is going to win well, there is a point where a sith officer tries to extort you for 20 credits saying that this area was for the sith only when you say no, I'm not going to do that, she's like your typical scum the republic that doesn't give us money and that's all. that happens cell cath cell cath traveler sith officer republic officer cell cath cleaning droid ooh sith negotiator I have no desire to talk to you oh friend swoop holy races now there's an exciting new mechanic eventually I manage to make it to the embassy the republic that has a mission for me in exchange for data on the star map, one of their droids from the scanner module that was in the ocean came floating up to the top and everything was disabled and the sith got the cell catheterization to delay the recovery of this thing on the part of the republic. long enough for the sith to get him back and now the republic wants him back.
So I have a few ways to go, but interrogating a sith prisoner is the easiest. This makes me more or less analyze options until I succeed, which is a little silly because they set up the situation with a very serious tone like, oh, you can. use the truth serum, but if he resists it enough his mind will go blank, so you'll have to use the neutralizer before using the serum again, but if you use it too much he might forget everything he knows. I think I failed this task about 12 to 12 15 times and he never forgot anything oh well I got my information and got to the sith base, I fought some guys and miraculously managed to find the right area to go to the first time, then I took the data and returned to the republic at least that was the plan since the cath cell has a very strict policy against violence and they found out that a fight had broken out, they arrested me when I came out, they assigned me a lawyer who tries to defend me saying that I was there by coincidence, that backfired, so I dismissed it and I defend myself by claiming that the sith lured me to their base to try to force me to the dark side and then attacked me when I refused, they don't have enough evidence to convict me and Basically, take my side and put the Sith in some sort of blockade, preventing them from the protection of their laws for the time being, although that seems like a huge victory, I can't help but think that this is the reason the Sith will need to try to initiate some kind of hostile takeover, still, this entire planet was relatively mundane in terms of quest until this chrono-trigger type arrest, so I'm very happy with its conclusion, not only that, but this quest seems to start the chain of this planet.
Finally, when I leave, a woman approaches Jolie in my group and lets her know that her husband and Jolies' old friend is locked up and being framed by the Sith for murder. I go back to the judges and apply to be this. The guy's lawyer, now I have to question different witnesses, the judges themselves and the defendant, the judges seem divided on how they feel about the Republican Sith and they are also divided on how they feel about the ability of this old man who supposedly killed to a Sith. An officer in her prime, the accused Sunree tells me that she was meeting the woman at the hotel because she is pretending to be a Sith spy feeding false information to the Sith, at the same time that the woman seemed to be quite close to becoming a double agent and work.
For the republic, Sunri also believes that the woman was murdered by the Sith when they found out and then they placed a medal that belonged to him in her hand, so I go to the hotel to sound out the witnesses. I start with the hotel. The owner who thinks the shot went off and then Sunri ran away. Well, I decided to ask him if he would testify to the contrary. No, no, no, that's a lot of money. Testimonies from the other two witnesses show that a Sith staff paid. one of them to place the medal on the victim's body, but also that the victim and the accused were definitely having an affair and that the victim may have been a dark Jedi, not just an ordinary Sith, which increases the probability of being shot dead. by a much less likely elder shortly after leaving the hotel, a stranger tells me that both the republic and the sith have played a role in this case and that each side is trying to win against the other in addition to this court case.
I meet someone who wants me to find out why the republic is suddenly hiring so many mercenaries and someone who suspects that the Sith kidnapped many young children with cell cath, including his own daughter, a mercenary from a race of bloodthirsty people, He tells me that the Sith hired. him to collect as many children as he can from the cell catheterization and take them to his embassy in regards to the mass hiring of mercenaries in the republic. I'm also aiming for his embassy to get answers, so basically all of these side quests involve snooping around on both sides. embassies, so here are all these back-to-back side quests.
The republic is hiring mercenaries because they basically made a deal with some of the republic's most supportive cell caths to build a collection base directly above the source of the cult's healing agent when they were about to finish, they found the star map and shortly after communications went down completely they sent some republic officers and got no communication, then they started sending mercenaries over and over again to try to get to the bottom of what happened until the Sith kidnap children of cellular catheterization. Yes, they have been kidnapping them, although it is more of a coercion than a kidnapping.
Basically, they've been training potential future cell cath leaders in the ways the Sith brainwash them so they can eventually take over. planet and control kolto mining. I found the evidence for this and convinced the children to report the Sith crimes to the cath cell leadership and then finally the trial, so Sunri killed the Sith woman. It was recorded on video by Sith recording devices. captured by the republic when Sunray asked for a favor after this, the Sith tried to plant the evidence to help them win the next court case by paying off this dumb bastard. The reason Sunri did it was because he, yes, he was having an affair, but he wasn't.
By converting the dark jedi to the side of the republic, she was using him to obtain information, pretending that she would join her side at some point, when he discovered that she was using him, he went mad with rage. and I hope. so that she would fall asleep before shooting her, I actually have no idea how to proceed with this case, I already paid the guy at the reception to turn a blind eye to the fact that Sunri ran away after the shooting, but, in actually the guy killed someone because he was mad at him but then again she was a dark jedi this is really a morally ambiguous case holy and there is no right answer you are making a decision about what to do with life of this man and no matter how you look at it, the decision doesn't feel quite right, I think the turning point for me was the fact that dawn began to fall on all this will ruin the republic because cellular cath will ban them garner cult after this.
I just hate how this guy is now taking the High Road and using it as a shield for his actions claiming that he killed a Sith and there's nothing wrong with that, so I send him down the river with the video evidence, even though I couldn't help but come back Just load a save and see how the whole trial works. unfolds because it really tickles my phoenix, it is an honor to see justice served and I will see Sunri executed for the crime he has committed. The sunbeam left before I heard the blaster's shot. Impossible. She carried a lightsaber under that cloak.
Objection. that doesn't prove she was a jedi in the republic it is awarded only to the bravest, bravest, most honorable men lies, slander, I object, were you in Alaska's room the night of the murder? He was working on it trying to get it to me. the republican side, obviously, the whole story, I didn't kill her, your honors, no, damn, it was a fun quest, so now it's time to get to the bottom of the ocean or something to find out what went wrong and for the star map, well , i guess. The cell cath went crazy when some sort of voice rang out and affected the minds of everyone in the facility, everyone else was fine after a moment, but the cell cath went into some sort of frenzy state and began. to attack everyone in sight.
The thing about this section is that it could have been a lot scarier, since the way the few survivors talk to you makes it seem like these fish men became completely bloodthirsty, attacking and eating every person they could, but the reality is that fighting them feels more or less the same as fighting. any other creatures in this game, I don't know, I feel like a remaster of this area could be awesome anyway, I put on an environmental suit and go to the bottom of the ocean, no attacks, no force powers and around 20 percent of my normal movement. speed water levels man, come on, hurry up, don't just stand there, we have to keep moving, the water is full, are you kidding me?
So here's something I discovered after several times dying to these idiots. You need a sonic emitter to move forward and I killed these things, I didn't take them, so I reloaded a save, took two of them and then went back to it. Fortunately, my force speed failed and let me move at 40 percent of my normal speed, so it was great after the axis kill. games and finally finishing the Tropico series once and for all, probably has the worst voice acting in the game. I mean, to be honest, a lot of the voice acting was a lot better than I thought it would be for 2003, but holy man, no, no. the pharaxia will bring us a cellular catheter will not come no no no ah ah you sammy sammy calm down I don't think they are here to kill us uh kono kono are they yes?
I think they are here to help us eventually they stopped I panicked enough to tell me that a big fat shark waslifted up and melted their entire minds. They theorize that it has been around for a long time and has been eating kolto to sustain itself, making it big, so my options here are to use this. machine built down here to release a very powerful poison in the area and kill the sharks or to do a mathematical puzzle to overload the machine and make it self-destruct saving the shark. I'm going with the latter because it seems good to save this.
Which is just doing what he does best: being a big fucking shark with psychic powers. Awesome. I haven't talked much about the logic puzzles in this game, but there are quite a few of them that involve me thinking about various math problems. leading me to the conclusion that someone at bioware was a huge nerd. I hated math as a kid, but I actually really like these simple logic puzzles, they make me feel smart until I fail them, then the facility explodes and the shark gives me a Nod to move on and map my star. I suck up the information and tiptoe back to the surface and then they arrest me again.
Yeah, one last case to get out of, except this time they ask me: Why did you blow things up? and I say. big damn shark man and off they go holy mate okay you're free to go apparently he was like the creator of his people or something according to their legends and they're excited to know that god is still alive down there swimming the good swim come on swimming. off this planet this time the sith don't send another mercenary or sith master after us instead the man who has been interacting with Malik comes for us himself.
Turns out this guy was Karth's former commander, the person who taught him everything he knows about being. a soldier is the reason Qarth is extremely slow to trust you, while this gigantic ship has no problem pulling us away from our destiny and pulling us toward it. Here's the prison sequence that a lot of games from this era seem to have this problem with. The particular prison sequence is the fact that, well, we're all tough guys, it's not one Jedi and a group of crewmates, it's four Jedi, one Wookiee, two incredibly well-trained soldiers who have seen many battles, two droids and a rogue Twilight girl, ironically.
I'm relying on the latter to free us from the prison, but the fact is that as long as Malik isn't waiting for us when we dock, we should have no problem getting out of the prison, but it's just the standard capture sequence that you get. Naked, thrown into holding cells and tortured for information. I will leave you here in your cell with a small taste of the horrors you will suffer when Lord Malik arrives. I don't know it just negates the whole idea that you are some ultra powerful group when an old man in a hat captures your crew with no problems what we learn from this situation is that dantooine was destroyed by the sith along with the jedi enclave there malik he's on his way and ready to interrogate him himself and, oh yeah, oh, this can't be true, can it?
Do you really not know what's going on here? Hmm? What could I not know about that? It seems like a twisted plot anyway, I pilot a mission here to free us all and then get out of there. here so I have to go to the bridge to open the hangar doors so we can leave when we get there a big battle ensues between us and the former kart and qarth commander comes over to finish the job after knowing that the jedi they're like this really good force in the universe, I mean I get that I'll never fully understand it, no don't, you'll become like them, I mean we just wounded him to death, why not let Qarth finish the work to get revenge?
I don't know about his wife, I guess I just don't believe in that Jedi tenant. The commander's final words to Karth make him angry and confront Bastila about some big secret. Realistically, it would make a lot more sense if both her and the jedi. The council knew I was Revan, I mean how could they not? So here's a fun little sequence. I forgot to open the hangar doors because it was a moment before large glowing target markers and a group of Sith came charging to block our escape, so and I get out of there halfway to Moonbase Alpha via the same sequence as before, which unequips all of our weapons for any reason.
I get to the elevator and it's like, oh, you forgot to make the bridge, great, I recharge an old saved fight. old river again remember to open the hangar doors and get out again the lucky part is that they haven't made me spacewalk again since I opened the hangar doors which is nice of them uh oh here comes Malik and boy is he good laughing like that Yeah I'm revvin, they forgave me and erased my memories cause only I can stop. The reality of the situation is that Malik turned against me because he wanted my power.
The Jedi Council sent a group of knights against me and Malik took action. At that very moment, instead of letting me die, they took me to reprogram my mind and help them find the flip-flop between the truth and the idea that I could be saved and that even as an evil Sith lord I deserved to be saved, the Jedi Council was desperate. and they saw an opportunity I don't blame them but this old talk deserves to be saved it's blatant I don't know Jedi man they bother me they actually left me Ask one of you nerds why the council sent a knight strike team to kill the dark lord Revan.
They still have teachers even in this terrible time. What is stopping them from fighting, infiltrating, or doing much? Of these things really dangerous in themselves it's just that their presence would be detected because they are stronger in the path of the force or not, I don't know, I mean, when I asked this before, I didn't realize it was Revan. However, it made a little more sense for them to send Bastille and me to the first star map location on Dantooine given that knowledge, but I still always feel like achieving the role of teacher is basically just a retreat, maybe that's it. what I feel.
I've seen benders fight pretty well because of it, so now you have to fight Malik alone, which is a big mistake, not because he's super powerful or anything, but because he's extraordinarily weak. The battle is like this. I hit him twice and he hides. Behind an armored door I chase him and fight him again until I don't know one-eighth of his health. I'm doing the opposite of fighting here, so you know what happens, he does this stupid freeze attack in god mode and then bastilates. He throws his lightsaber at Malik and tells me to run as fast as he can.
I can just kill him, then the door closes and I have no choice but to run. This is so stupid that the player shouldn't have been forced to fight Malik right now. stage, I would have been happier if he had just kidnapped her and escaped, okay, say you wrote the game to be this way, this is what you do, you make Malik almost invincible and you polish him up a lot, you make the fight is written to lose. and when you get low enough, he freezes you and will finish you off before Bastila makes the big sacrifice of him.
The way this happened was the worst way it could have happened and makes the entire escape sequence the stupidest ever, even more so when I have to blow up more ships from the sky, what a bad decision anyway, Qarth tries to do everything, how can I trust you again? For the 9th time and literally everyone else says we trust him, so I like that hk47 regains his memories of him and remembers that he turns out to be Revan's droid. What's even funnier is the fact that the game points out to you how convenient it is to find it in some random store on Tatooine and then Candarus says yes, but have you heard of it? the plot hole filling device known as the force that literally explains any kind of convenience and story writing like space magic okay enough about logistics let's talk about korriban when I imagined the planet I expected to land in some regions volcanics surrounded by enemies instead of landing. in the midst of more zerka people, they are welcome to the evil planet, well seeing that you brought the evil ship back and you intend to become an evil jedi, oh okay, yeah, that's what I'm here for, there's not much .
To this place, at first glance, a cantina without music, an Azerk place and then outside is the sith academy to train the sith, that is my goal, so I have to pretend that I want to defect from the jedi order and I am here to join them, I try to persuade. They let me in in different ways, but apparently the 14 or so persuasions I have are not enough. I know there's a force persuaded, but I'm really wondering if sinking so many of my points into persuasion as a guardian soldier who doesn't gain many points per level was worth it because I actually failed the checks more often than I succeeded anyway, I beat to some sith and took their medallion so I could enter the sith academy.
This is where they are like us. We are all evil, but only the most evil will become sith. I don't even know if I need to become Corbon's next top sith to gain access to the star map, honestly, but I'm guessing I'll probably do just fine. All my questions are answered like the lady who originally said no I don't trust you because there is something weird with you, now I trust you implicitly please help me kill my master then she tells me I have to become the next great sith boy into entering the tomb where the star map is and then tells me exactly how to do it, so I clear three tombs, kill two of the other students and turn one to the light side.
Potentially, the artifacts obtained here are quite powerful, but they also have a lot of power. a dark side requirement, the puzzles and tests are very easy, but they are enjoyable to a certain point, which is what matters most, so I come back with all this stuff and the sith master says I'm very impressed, I'm still not impressed enough. although he does it again and again until he is finally impressed enough. Then I head to the final test, which involves me fighting some normal beasts, two super tough ones, and doing this logic puzzle that's easy but technically tedious, I didn't need to do it. that last bit, but I didn't realize until later after this that I froze this acidic river that I probably could have forced to jump and grab the final star map.
My final action in this entire academy is supposed to be to take down the teacher's student. Since he realized that she was trying to take him down, I choose to side with the lady who turns on me later because she is a Sith and all Sith fight Sith when they are threatened. I get to forgive her and I do it because m space jesus, the thing about korriban is that, well, it's a good concept to a point, but from a narrative perspective it almost seems like it's more appropriate to do it earlier in the game. I know you can do it before, but there's a point where it's like I've been to all these other planets and I've interacted with sith all over the galaxy to the point where I was on one of their capital ships and yet no one recognizes me as this troublemaking jedi who is definitely wanted by the sith, well, after we're done. completing some side quests and gaining access to my official 7-eleven reserve slurpee lightsabers, it's time to continue my final effort in this game as we delve into the part of the system where Starforge is located.
Karth sends a warning signal. The rest of the Republic fleet heads out and assists. This leads to another ship shooting sequence, but this time with a different background, then our stabilizers shut down, sending us plummeting to the only nearby planet. It is determined that the Sith are onto something. type of jammer that forces ships to crash into this planet by deactivating their engines. This begs the question about a huge oversight with the Sith plan, why wouldn't they lure the Republic ships here to the Star Forge and let their jammer crash their entire fleet? on this planet because the way Karth puts it we have to disable whatever is causing this phenomenon before the republic fleet gets there or everything will crash and burn, seems like a wasted advantage to me, meanwhile Malik is converting Bastila. to her dark side the only way he knows how to electrocute her until she has mild to severe alzheimer's.
I can't wait to see what Darth Basila looks like, so our goal is to disable the field, get our ship working, and try again. This has me running. In these natives who are technologically very primitive, they have no idea what a computer is and refer to force as magic. They also claim that Revan came here and made a deal with them to kill their enemies if they gave up his knowledge on how to bypass the barrier to the main temple here. Revan evidently had no intention of keeping his side of the agreement and appears to have obtained the information that needed its enemies instead, these enemies are fewer in number, more technologically advanced, and much moreSmarter than these guys here at least.
Going off of the information they have given me, I also have a small starship in my face, now it turns out that their enemies are simply more ricotta who have excluded themselves from the rest of their barbarian race by the way they tell it, they were the so-called builders of the Star Forge and had a tremendous wealth of technological wisdom and control over the force, they enslaved other races conquering most of the galaxy under the banner of the infinite empire before finally becoming desensitized to the force when they discovered that their race had They evolved until they could no longer use force, they had to revert to more primitive technology before cannibalizing and destroying themselves with weapons of mass destruction.
The priests who survived the assault on their temple banded together and formed a new enclave to try to rebuild. while they turn away from destructive technology, they are completely ashamed of Starforge and its capabilities and wanted Revan to destroy it when they realized he was using it for his own nefarious purposes, they assumed they would never see Revan again, well surprise here I'm here and I'll tell you. I told them that I basically want to destroy the Star Forge and that I need access to it, which is literally the exact same thing I told them I wanted to do when I was all evil and of course they don't believe me and want me to prove it to them. that I have changed by rescuing one of their explorers from the barbarian tribe on the other side of the island what I don't understand is that I don't like activating Starforge again, it's already activated, what's the harm in leaving me? go there again maybe I can turn this up to 11 if I come back okay so I don't like manipulating or talking my way out of the prisoner like I thought I could because these guys immediately go ah we saw you went into that. place we can't enter and then come out again, we have no way of knowing if you killed the elders there or not, but we believe that you didn't.
The video game logic is getting worse and worse, so yeah. Find my way through all of this, free the prisoner and then return. They tell me that I can enter the temple now with their help, but that there are leftover Sith forces from before, so Jumanji and Jolie accompany me to help me and us. burst this temple, well here comes a surprise on a grand scale, it's bastila and she's evil, here are some notes from the cliff, hello guys, it's me, her good friend bastila's. I've been fried worse than a weekend at Burning Man, so now I'm evil and I must end your life, I'm sure I'm much more powerful than you.
Okay, so I'm not that powerful, but you, man, you sure are powerful. Why don't you come be powerful with me? We can kill Malik and I could be your apprentice. Be so nice, the Jedi order is really manipulative, you know, so let's be bad, yeah, I don't know, I'm not feeling that whole join me on the dark side thing, like I'm getting a little more involved in my dialogue. The options were no no you have betrayed us please return to the light or haha yeah buddy let's kill Malik and rule the galaxy. I just want a logical and solid set of intermediate dialogue.
I want a neutral set because I really get the whole idea that the Jedi order is super manipulative with how they present their tenants, they really annoy people for being anything more than emotionless drones and I'm not a big fan, but At the same time, the relentless destructiveness of the dark side has been repeated historically. himself a few times in this game alone with the fall of the sith under the other and the It all ends with Bastila becoming another generic Sith apprentice who has as much personality as anyone else. I guess I just don't care as much about her after talking to a much more interesting written character like Jolie in my free time. the switches and deactivate the fields and all that jazz oh yeah and bastila just ran away and met up with Malik.
I figured she'd add a solid three seconds to her encounter with her boss later so we can head into the gigantic battle between the Sith and the Republic, of course. Bastila's battle meditation is making it impossible for the republic to break through, so only a very small force could infiltrate the Star Forge at this point, which would be us and a few other random Jedi fleets. Malik's hull plan is to basically stop us for time with wave after wave. wave of droids, sith troopers and dark jedi, when we finally get through all of that, he offers basila as the last step to buy time, this is how the battle goes this time, you won't defeat me, I see now when Malik followed you, it's you who you are your destiny fails the light side is failing you while the power of the star this is not possible you have rejected the dark side you are a weak and pathetic servant of the light I could join you in your battle against the dark lord but how do I would you do?
You can trust me, are you sure you want to take this risk? I could end your life and gain the favor of my luck with a single blow of my lightsaber. The dark side has consumed me completely and you will suffer for not seeing that only I I don't know, Bastille's arrogance really irritated me at first and then I started to get attached to her, but as time went on, the relationship that your character forms with her it's very superficial, it seems very deep because you have this bond that was formed through her salvation. you and she want to keep you away from the dark side and blah blah blah, but it all seems very guided and deliberately tragic.
It irritates me even more when we had all these conversations about the dark side to prevent him from returning to it at the beginning of The Game Makes More Sense Now, but the existence of these conversations only further exacerbates his arrogant hypocrisy when he falls to the dark side after all. that sermon. I just got tired of her. For me, Basila has an overpowered talent for bending plots and a not very powerful personality. Although from what it leaves as it was, I have to admit that the scene that follows when her battle meditation fails is really cool, even if the graphics are obviously dated.
I just wish Baslow had followed me to fight Malik and then maybe betrayed me or something. although I have to wonder what a dark side match would be like at this stage, in the next room I meet Malek who has two republic soldiers with him who he is currently choking, I don't know how they did it. far either, but apparently his only purpose is to die in front of you, Malik then laughs evilly and says, hey, look how cool Star Forge is and then seals me in this room, this is by far the worst boss fight designed that I have had.
I have never played in my entire life. I've relied on the quest to use all the computers in the game except for the temple on the planet Rakatan when I used Jon Bon Jovi, so needless to say my computer usage is zero, well no. I don't have any party members anymore, Count Bastila froze them in another dimension, so my goal here is to use eight spikes on the six computers to stop the machines from generating, except I have almost no spikes so I have to kill around of 45 droids. To get these spikes I walked away from my computer to use the bathroom at one point during this fight, unfortunately I don't keep attacking things that aren't next to me so that didn't help.
This fight is the worst when it is. Too easy, it's a huge waste of time if it were much harder. I imagine this would be more of an unsatisfying nightmare of curing, injecting, and saving new files. It's just a horribly designed fight from top to bottom. Well, the room after this is fine. It's not much better. I can almost hear the developers working well. If you like it, then you will love it. Basically, Malik is much more powerful than before, which is good, but without a trick that keeps him alive for more than 10 seconds. The fight would be over in 10 seconds, so he reveals or rather points out that there are Jedi chambers that are in some kind of stasis tubes.
Malik then states that each of these Jedi are basically dead, but Starforge has prevented their souls from passing through. by force, I don't know how many there are, I stopped counting after a while, but sweet, there are a lot, you basically fight Malik from full health over and over again for every jedi tube there is in this kingdom, it's hard, but Honestly , is a little nicer than the droid room since I actually struggled a bit When all is said and done, Malik laments joining the dark side and wonders if his future would have been different if our roles had been reversed.
I belittled him. with my little spaceship face before leaving for karthus, who tells me we have to get out of dodge before the republic fleet gives this place the old alderaan treatment, you make your great escape and are escorted back to the planet rakatan. I guess they didn't want to design a new backdrop for this celebration, it's all very Star Wars-like and you can guess how it goes just by looking at what's on the Knights of the Old Republic display. It's hard to judge exactly because while I was doing it. Have a lot of fun, it has so many bugs that could have been fixed when the game was remade somehow, the game is good but it desperately needs some maintenance, a remaster, a patch, something that may never happen because even with all the fixes that I applied, the game has an 80 chance of not starting at 1920 by 1080, which is not even a default resolution in the game.
The other option is to play in some 800x600 variant and I prefer to play with my monitor off. my saves got corrupted multiple times causing me to have to redo entire areas, my UI disappears sometimes causing the 800x600 version to be displayed, as well as removing texture layers from models, path The AI can be absolutely atrocious, as evidenced by my party members getting Stuck in Objects and Off Map, sometimes you're given a set of dialogue options and choosing a specific one doesn't seem to give you a specific response. Many times the options are: I'm a good guy, strength is good.
Here is the neutral answer and I am a great Sith man. Be warned, a lot of the dialogue in general tends to repeat itself quite a bit towards the end of the game, especially the whole light side versus dark side argument. The combat is old, stale and

clunky

. It's beyond belief and feels ridiculous when you try to buff yourself mid-battle only to have said buffs last a solid 20 seconds and take a third of your health and damage while applying them. Tricks like swooping races and spaceship battles are repetitive. beyond belief and I desperately need some kind of trailer to keep them interesting as often as they come, but the game isn't bad either, nothing, it's packed with content and an interesting story, there are tons and tons and tons of things that Ni I didn't even mention clever specific puzzles, dialogue with the different party members and the stories they have to tell, side quests that give you fun ideas to digest some of my favorite dialogue in the game that comes from interrogating Jolie about her pass and asking her what think about the jedi order and he goes on to say that everyone thinks the order is infallible and they can't go wrong if he mentioned every interesting little conversation this video would have easily been twice as long.
I did it all for the wookies, the wookies is really what makes this game shine because without the intrigue gained from the various characters, races and random environments, this would easily be one of those games that fell by the wayside and was forgotten. completely. There's a reason Knights of the Old Republic is held so dear in people's hearts and memories, and even after I was happy to be done with the game, a part of me began to wonder how a Dark Side match would turn out, while which I think a good amount of nostalgia is necessary to fully appreciate the game and overlook some Despite its obvious problems, it's still a good game for someone new to pick up if they know what they're getting into.
I would love to see a remaster of both the first and second games. I know it's somewhat unlikely, but we've been in an era of remakes for quite some time now and anything is possible thanks for watching. I should have realized this was a bioware game, but holy crap, that took a while. I know some of you will want to watch Knights of the Old Republic 2 at some point and I have no qualms about turning it on at some point, but not for a while. I'm like Star Wars is out right now so until then I have good t-shirts now if you want. support me and wear a shirt with something on.
I have shirts with crowdmade things on them. You want a shirt with something on. I have it, so check that out if you want a shirt with something on it. Anyway, I have a Twitch where I stream from time to time. I have a Twitter where I tweet my newest videos. I have a Discord where people relax and record in the meantime and I have a Patreon and that's it, have a good one.
