yarn

tied together, just like our other two to make a nice stiff fabric. This basket is ideal for a cubic storage shelf, so many of you. I ordered a basket that would fit on a storage shelf with large

square

shelving areas, but of course you can put this on another shelf as well.

yarn

if you're not sure

what

to do with it. Today I chose one

variegated

yarn and two solids, but of course you can use any color and any type of yarn.

If you want, let's grab our hooks, grab our yard, we'll head over to the craft table and sew together a cubic storage basket to make our cubic storage baskets. I am using a 100% acrylic size for medium weight yarn. Three strands are held together throughout this project so I'm using two different solid colors and a nice

variegated

for each strand you want 200 grams or 365 yards so that's 600 grams total for the project you want a pair with of scissors and a thread needle. an eye big enough so you can get all three strands through at once and the main construction we are going to use a really big 10 millimeter hook or not 15 in the US not a P or a triple zero in the UK Attached, so it's a nice big hook and to work a little bit near the end, you want a smaller hook, it doesn't have to be exactly the same.

I'm using four millimeters, four point two. five four point five anything in that stadium nice little hook for a little work in the corners no matter the size but you want a smaller hook and if you're not already subscribed to our channel take a little bit to hit it button and the bell so you never miss another episode and once you have all your supplies together we can get started. Let's start with the three threads united. We will use all three threads together at all times, so treat them all. like a big thick piece of yarn we're going to start with a slipknot and to start we're going to chain 19 19 chains to start visit our store and purchase a

pattern

you'll help support our show and we'll put a link to our store in the description box next once you have 19 chains, try not to twist the row of base chains, we are going to use the single

crochet

, so we will skip the first chain on the hook and remember those three.

The threads together make a big thick stitch, so we skip the first chain, we are working on the second chain, we are going to make a single

crochet

and you are going to make a single crochet in each stitch until the beginning. to make sure you keep all three strands together while you're single crocheting, but if for some reason one of your strands slips through your fingers or misses a stitch, don't panic, it won't just unravel. pick it up and continue to the end of the first row and at the end of each row in this main part of the basket you will have 18 stitches, each row will end with a chain and twist that chain.
It's your rotating chain, you don't use it, you skip it, but you need it for the construction of the fabric, always start at the first stitch, skip the chain, you're going to make single crochets in each stitch until the end. so you will still have 18 stitches in each row, you are going to chain a round of single crochet until the end and you are going to continue doing so until you have 54 rows, that is, 5 4:54 rows of single crochet. once you've knit 54 rows of single crochet, you can bind off and take a moment to knit those tails under the back and forth stitches on the last row.
Next we want to add some side pieces, so we'll do the exact same thing on both. sides of our basket you are going to take a couple of safety pins or stitch markers or even some thread and you are going to count in 18 rows from one end and mark the edge and count in 18 rows from the other finish and mark the edge, let's go to make a single crochet on the 18 rows between those two stitch markers, so it's going to grab all three threads, we're still keeping three threads together, we're going to do a slip. knot now we are going to join our thread in the space on the edge of the eighteenth stitch down from one end and the same on one side as on the other we are going to join our thread with a chain of slip stitch 1 and single crochet in the same place where you joined and if you just lift up a little bit you can see that space, now you're going to single crochet the edge of each of those 18 rows up to the stitch marker so I want 18 stitches total and you're just going to look for the space in the edge of the row, so you don't want to try to grab this.
You don't have to grab stitches or loops or anything, just find the space. of them are small some of them are large and you are going to work 18 stitches along the middle edge of your base piece of fabric you should have 18 stitches including the single crochet you started with so we join change one and single crochet in the same stitch, make sure you count that one 18 stitches wide, you're going to chain 1 and turn at the end of each row and you're going to single crochet back and forth across this little side piece until you have 18 rows.
So this is the row, a fun row that we attached to the main piece of fabric. In each row we will have 18 points. You will chain 1 and twist at the end of each row. You will make single crochets back and forth. until you have eight teen rows in total, once you have knit 18 rows in each row, we will have 18 stitches for you to count the first row where you joined the thread and worked on the side of the main piece of fabric which is Row one and then rows 2 to 18, make sure you have 18 of them. You can trim the yarn, bind off and weave those tails back and forth along the stitches of the last row, then turn the piece over and do the exact same thing. stitch on the other side, so you're going to count in 18 rows from one end, count in 18 rows from the other end, mark it and then work those 18 rows of single crochets back and forth and back and forth until you have the exact point.
Panel of the same shape and size on the other side, we now have a piece of fabric that looks like a large Main panel. piece of fabric and the four flaps that we have now coming off the center piece should be exactly the same height, they're all 18 inches tall, which is great because now we're going to start attaching our edges. So you're going to take the first two flaps and keep them together. You can pin them in place if you feel necessary, but what you are doing is working through the first two flaps. edge of each of those 18 rows, both pieces joined together, we're going to single crochet up to that edge to make a nice tight seam and we want to make sure that the edges of our blouses are nice and flush, so this is where our small hook comes into play, we're going to use a single strand of yarn, now you can use whatever you want, whether it's a color you like or maybe you have one with a lot more yarn in the ball, take whatever yarn you want.
We're going to join our yarn with a slip stitch at the bottom here, so we're going to place our hook right through the first set of spaces along the bottom of that first set of rows and just like we did when While we added the side panels, it's just going to work the spaces at the edge of the rows instead of trying to pick up single stitch pieces, so we'll join with a slip stitch chain and through that same set of holes, you can see it there if I hold up Above all you are going to work with two single crochets in that same place, so you may have to lift the yarn a little to get that single crochet.
Try to do. nice and tight because you want a nice tight seam, so that's the first edge of the first set of rows that you're going to move to the next hole or the next kind of space at the end of a couple of rows, make sure you do that. You're going around the entire piece of fabric and you're going to work two single crochets through that little set of spaces just over the edge of the second set of rows. Find the next set. She worked two single crochets through that set of spaces. We are going to work two single crochets in each of the 18 spaces or ends of the row until we reach the seam so that you end up with something that looks like this.
You have this nice little row of single crochets running up. the rim will eventually end up on the inside of our basket, so don't worry if it looks a little messy, but if you're going to single crochet across those rim spaces together, it should look pretty neat and tidy, you should have something that It looks like this, which is the first one, it seemed almost complete. The last two single crochets you're going to work will go right through the top edge of each of the bottoms of those base chain rows or the top of the single crochets at the Very end, so two single crochets to finish , cut the yarn, cast off and take the yarn needle and you can weave that tail back and forth through the stitches that went up the inside of the seam, so that that's a finished seam, there's the single crochet stitch.
Go up the spine now you're going to go ahead and do the other three seams. Be careful to make sure you're always working on the outside and you haven't accidentally turned it over, so if you have to make sure to check Back to the first seam, you want to make sure you're working along the outside edge of all of those seams so that When we turn it right side out, all these little single crochet spines will be on the inside of the box. Once you've done all four seams, now you can turn your basket inside out.
I like to start by taking a very small corner and pushing it in with my middle finger and I'm going to do that with all four. and then I'm going to very gently turn it inside out or right side out, then you can go around and tighten the seams, you'll see there's a nice little bit of stitching, tighten the seams and that will help give your basket a little bit more of definition before we finish our basket, we are going to make some handles, so we are going to make two of these, we again use three threads joined together and our large hook, we are going to start with a long one. tail and a slip knot, so you want a long tail because you are going to use it, so go down one side of the handle to the basket, then you are going to chain 11 to start, once you have 11 chains, we will use the half stitch double crochet we are going to skip the first chain of the hook we are going to have double crochet in the second chain and we are going to have double crochet in each chain until the end we will have ten stitches in the At the end of this row, once you have returned to the beginning, you will have ten points.
You want to leave yourself a nice long tail that you can finish off and then we're going to weave this long tail all the way back, under some. of these slanted loops to the other end, so we don't want to misalign them, but what you're going to do is thread the yarn needle and you're going to knit. The tails under these little horizontal loops because these sit a little bit behind so it's easy to get the needle under and you'll just pull it all the way in, try not to pull too hard because you don't want to accidentally misalign the handle and just you're going to continue weaving those, leave those tails, the long ones under those slant stitches until it comes all the way out the other end of the handle, so now you have a sewing tail. on one end and a sew tail on the other end, you want two of these handles and then we're going to go ahead and sew them to each side of our basket.
You can choose any of the sides you want to put your first basket on. handle on just remember the other one is going to go on the exact opposite side of your basket, we're going to place our basket handles somewhere in the middle, so you're going to want to look like an eyeball, find the middle of that side and we're going to do it. You'll be sewing one row down, so skip the top row from the top edge and then line up the top of your basket handle with the second row. You can pin it in place or just hold it up like I'm doing with those long tails. on each side, whichever side you are on, and simply sew through the upward facing loops of the basket and all the way around the edge of the handle.
You want to make sure it fits snugly, especially if you are going to be carrying a lot. of things quite frequently or if a little person is going to have them in their room and tends to be a little rough with their things, so go through the points at least twice, maybe go back and forth a couple of times just to make sure that the handle is actually there and once you are satisfied that it is nice and tight you can take the sewing threads to the inside of thebasket, you can tie a little knot and make sure it's tight against the back of your basket and then you can weave those tails back and forth along the inside of those stitches on the inside of your basket a few times until that you're pretty sure they won't come off and you can You can trim off what's left, then you'll sew the other side of the handle and then you'll attach the other handle to the other side of the basket.
Once you have both handles on the basket, you can give it some pull and pressure on your basket just to make sure you get it back into shape after you probably handled it quite a bit while putting the handles on, you can pull on the bottom corner like if you edge at the bottom where it folds make sure you press the seams back into place and there you have a cubic basket that measures approximately nine inches by nine inches by nine inches and there you have a cubic storage basket for all your storage requirements and a great one We hope you enjoyed making this basket along with us this week and we'll see you soon here on Jayden's Stitch Show until then stay safe, stay crafty, have an amazing week everyone, bye hello everyone, Sir. . and points here thanks for watching today here are some of our other videos that might interest you and don't forget to subscribe
