Should You Buy a RANGE ROVER SPORT? (Test Drive & Review L494 3.0 SDV6)

May 30, 2021
Alright guys, how are you doing? Welcome back today. I'm in this 2015 Range Rover Sport. This generation has been around since 2013 and is codenamed L494. This replaced the L320

range

of a

sport

, as many of you know I am a big

range

r. I'm a fan, but as some of you rightly pointed out in a previous range of

sport

s videos, that generational range of a sport was just a new body discovery, which is true, although I never thought it was such a bad thing, well, good news , this new range of a stand is a new car from scratch, although it is four inches longer than the previous model, this car has done an Adele, it has lost a lot of weight, almost 400 kilos to be precise and you can tell that it feels a lot more agile and much more. sporty than the previous version, it deserves a lot more of a sporty lot than the old l320 style wise, I think it looks great, it looks sharp, crisp and modern, it's less farmhouse style than the previous model, all the new Range Rovers are They look very similar in fact, they are like Russian dolls.

You have them small, medium, large and huge, but this one looks good. This one in particular I think looks really good because it has a good color to begin with and then it has all the black parts, so it's black. grill black wheels black badges seems a little stealthy I like that it looks much more youthful than the previous model. They also offer a wide variety of engines, so you could have had this with a three-liter v6 sd like the one under the hood on this This model makes just over 300 horsepower, but they also offered it in a state of Slightly lazier tuning that produced 245 horsepower.

You could also have bought a 4.4 liter SDV8, which is what I would have chosen, which produces 340 horsepower. They also offered a 5-liter supercharged V8 that knocks out 510 horsepower, or if you're short on cash and a sports suit punch, you could buy the super-bold, nasty 550-horsepower range of a sports SVR that screams and barks like a untrained dog, in fact, if you look up the word vulgar in the dictionary, you'll see a man with a Gucci belt and Yeezy sitting on the carbon hood of an SVR. Obviously, that's just my opinion. I'm never one to hang around on those things until now, that sounds like enough.

The choice of engines, isn't it? We're not done yet. It's a bit like a menu in a suburban restaurant. They offer too much. You could also buy it with a two-litre turbodiesel engine which I imagine it wouldn't be able to pull. As if it were a rice pudding, they also offered it with a three-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine, which is basically the same unit as the F-Type and, in addition, there is a hybrid version, so there really is something for everyone, although most people here in Europe. You will choose the three liter SDV6, which is the one.

It really does a reasonable job. You will get sensible economics. Reasonable road taxes and a reasonable return. This three-liter diesel will get 24 to 25 miles per gallon in the city. 36 to 37 miles per gallon on the highway. It runs and, more importantly, only costs £265 a year with tax, as opposed to the £565 you'll pay for a v8, so it's the sensible choice, although I'd personally go for a v8 diesel, plus the styling and features. engines that have greatly improved. In the previous model, the interior has also improved massively and I mean massively, today it feels spectacular. As with the entire range of a sports car, it's quite expensive, everything is easy to reach, you feel quite warm, it feels much sportier than my Range Rover L405.
Now the interiors of the previous L320 sports car were never as luxurious as those of its older brother. Well the L494 has changed and it's almost like sitting in my Range Rover L405. Everything is nice, crisp and modern. This model is actually a slightly improved version, so as of 2015 you have slightly different buttons, you would have to be a complete nerd to be able to tell the difference, so I will tell you the difference, for example to turn on the heated seats , you don't have to go into the submenus, now you can just press this dial here, which is the standard climate dial and you can turn on your heated or cooled seats.
The infotainment system is also slightly improved compared to mine, so everything looks less pixelated and sharper. I suggest you go for a higher one. I specified this model with the Meridian sound system because the sound system is magnificent and you won't want to be without it. This one has a nice panoramic glass roof that lets in a lot of light. It's a really nice car to

drive

and be in everything. It just feels more special than the previous sport. One thing I prefer about the Range Rover Sport over the big Range Rover is the gear selector, so on this one you have this joystick here instead of the old rotary dial which I always think is nice. counterintuitive, this is not it, it just feels sporty and is easy to use, it has a quite nice design, you also have a lot of storage space, so there is plenty of space in the door pockets, the cubby here in the center is Huge and provides USB. charging points in an auxiliary point, you have two cup holders here, everything is perfectly designed just as they did with its big brother, they have ditched the analogue style clocks in favor of this completely digital dashboard which I also like I love the seats in the sporty range, they provide much more support on the sides because they really hug you.
One thing missing is a heated steering wheel which was now an optional extra, whereas on the full size Range Rover they come as standard and that is a feature I would look for if I was looking for one before buying my Range Rover L405 in February. I looked at a few sports and actually considered one for a short period that I have always preferred. The look of the full size Range Rover is just a proper Range Rover and I love the way it

drive

s but it is too big especially here in the UK for these roads it just feels huge most of the time and the most of the time it's exactly the same width as the average parking space, that's one of the reasons I considered the sporty because the sporty is a better size.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's still a big car, it doesn't feel like a smart car, but it's just an easier car to live with and park in city centers. The other reason I was considering a sports range is that they are much more fun to drive, feel much more agile and manageable, while in my full size. Range Rover is a bit like a Rolls-Royce, you never want to push it, you just sit back, let it do its thing and float along without knowing if you've hit a pothole or a Peugeot, now the sport, on the other hand.
It's a lot more fun to drive The steering is a little lighter and more direct There's not as much body roll It just feels livelier It has more get up and go The downside, of course, is that the ride is much firmer, it's not Completely intolerable as an M Sport I think the 21, which looks great, don't get me wrong, but they do make the ride a little firm and said it still handles smoother than most other sport suvs, it's much better than the previous l320 sport, it They've gotten rid of that crash feeling every time you go over a bump so I really think they have the perfect balance between sport and comfort Feels less lethargic than the previous model Just feels more energetic and youthful overall Feels like I imagine it would What would my car feel like if it spent a month at Fat Farm although this type of car is mainly driven by footballers and their wives and most of them spend their entire lives on the asphalt don't be fooled into thinking they are off-road rubbish because they aren't They are brilliant, they are much better than any gle x5 q7.
They are better than the rest. They are genuinely very capable off-road. They have air suspension, so you can change the ride height. It has a good wading depth. It has a terrain response system. Obviously, none of these things will be used. but even though it's there it's nice, it's a bit like a Swiss army knife. I know you'll probably only use it for its ability to open bottles, but it's handy to keep in your pocket for anything else. It is a very practical car. The trunk is huge and you can even buy one of these sports cars with seven seats, which is useful if you have a large family, since the third row of seats is not very spacious, but they are fine for children, so a quick summary of the problems of the three.
The liter can suffer from bearing problems in the engine, the 4-4 can have turbo leaks, the 5 liter supercharged V8 can have timing chain problems and that will probably be enough to scare them all, but every car It has its problems, so you just have to do your research, do your homework, maintain it properly and move on. It's another thing to buy one of these used now that they're six, seven, eight years old. You would hope the previous owner would have corrected those things, so when purchasing one. used, you may have avoided some of those larger bills.
Another good thing about this generation of sports is that they are quite easy to customize. You know those American high school movies where the geeky librarian becomes prom queen after suddenly taking off her glasses and If your hair is well made up, you can easily do it with the range of a sports car. You can buy a very simple Jane Sport with small wheels and a simple grill and have it look as good as this one because the parts are so easy to replace. the front grill, the hood louvers, they are very easy to change so you could get a very boring look, buy yourself a grill kit on ebay and a set of black dynamic alloys and you're done prom queen and al Doing so will also have increased. its value, so it's actually a pretty sensible thing to do if that's your cup of tea, another thing if you're looking for one of these cars.
I know I sound like a broken record, but don't buy the cheapest, buy the best. you can possibly afford to compare prices do your homework service the engine check the gearbox regularly don't drive it like you stole it run it on premium fuel at least every other fill up and it

should

be fine the other thing to keep in mind is If you buy one of these cars, set aside a couple of thousand pounds before any repairs because there will be one thing that is the same with any luxury car and in the future it would be wise to put a hundred pounds a month into, say, a bank account. separate savings. and then when something goes wrong you have the money to pay for it because things will invariably go wrong, for example, the white range of a sport that I recently filmed with, a 2010 model that I sold and about six weeks later, the pipes air. because the air suspension started to leak so it's quite a big job and cost me over a thousand pounds to fix so things like that will happen when they get closer to 10 or 12 years so you have to be sensible about it if this is So. the type of car you want to drive and why you wouldn't.
It would be exactly the same. You just have to be pragmatic about its owner. One more thing to mention if you go for a three liter diesel, it has a timing belt which it needs. it needs to be replaced every seven years or 105,000 miles, the rest have chains I think, so no need to worry, but the three liter diesel has a belt replaced which will cost you between three and four hundred quid so yeah, operating costs will increase. be taller than a ford focus or a vw golf, but that goes without saying, the same applies to an x5 or a q7, so if you are in the market for this type of car, you have to accept that in terms of reliability Don't listen to all the people who only have horror stories to tell you because most of them, I'm not saying they are myths or made up, but most of them are very exaggerated.
Set aside some money for future repairs and then you won't be short, it's as simple as that, so how much will one cost you? Pretty tempting used prices here in the UK are pretty cheap. I have seen them for the first time drop below 20 thousand dollars, which will give you a 13 reg. Done 160,000 miles, which I wouldn't recommend personally, you'll need to spend about 25 grand to get a halfway decent one that will have done 70 or 80,000 miles for one like this that looks as good as this, you have to spend about 30,000 pounds, I think it's pretty good value considering these cars were £60-£70,000 new.
The fact that you can now buy one of these for half as much and with a lot of life, I think is a real bargain. and another good thing is that they still look current, they don't look old like the previous generation, they look modern, well they are still in production, they still have a current shape. My other advice would be to look for one in a good color like this because When thetime to sell it you won't have any problems so in summary I'm really impressed with this car it's good at pretty much everything it's good on road it's good off road it's frugal enough to live with it it's pretty easy to park. easier than the full size range anyway, so yeah, I mean, if you're looking for one, why wouldn't you buy one?
