Scrappy On Point Triangle Quilt (an FMQ Love Story) | Midnight Quilt Show with Angela Walters

May 01, 2020
Hello and welcome to tonight's Midnight Quilt Show. We're on

point

with a fun pattern with bold prints, easy piecing, and plenty of room for free-motion

quilt

ing. I can't wait so let's get started so I have everything I need to get started tonight. and it is in my special box that I continue to beat the rest of my family. I had the background fabric for this

quilt

and I also have the rest of my fabric, some thread, and some overnight snacks. I think it should be almost. enough for the OnPoint quilt. I'm using these pre-cut strips of beautiful floral prints suitable for floristry.

I can't wait to start using, of course my favorite part of any project is the first presentation of the fabric pattern I'm using. The one I'm working with is very similar to the City strip I've made before, so I

love

d it so much I thought it would be fun to do it again with a little twist and spend a little more time machine quilting. Now if you want to quote me, you can find the information for this free pattern in the description box below, so I

love

the beautiful bright prints, the pretty flowers, and the cheerful colors that just say please sew with me, but that's enough. of fabric to stroke it's time to start sewing so for the blocks I need to make a strip unit that has the two strips pre-cut but I have to cut a little but that's okay I'm going to use this background fabric that will be used throughout the quilt and I'm going to go ahead and cut out my nice wide strip.

More Interesting Facts About,

Sorry, I have to count to make sure I actually plan to cut it to the right size. Oh, sometimes I laugh to myself, so what's my drive. As you'll see I'll have a background and then two prints chosen at random, of course I'm trying to make it as simple as possible now, just time to sew it up before I sew a little snack. I love the little sayings, Angela. your seams will be perfect. I like that, okay, two for one missing, now I think it's a beautiful strip unit, so my kind of joining is nice and easy and Street, but I actually have one scene left to do, it may seem.

It's a little weird but I'm going to fold it back on itself so it's completely together so I'm done sewing and I have a really cute scarf or the first unit of strips for my quilt and since it's not the

midnight

scarf

show

I guess I'm going to continue with the quilt, so I'm going to place it here and start cutting it. Now it's still the same strip unit that's completely sewn together and I'm going to take my ruler and lay it down. here so that line is along the bottom seam and I'm just helping to make sure that this angle is right, so once I have my line in place in the scene, a good angle, I'm going to take a deep breath and cut it .

I'm hoping and I'm doing this right now, when I go to make the next one, I'm going to line up my row with the top seam so the directions are reversed and then I have the first block of my strip. I'm going to keep doing that thinking about how nice it will look and it will finally be finished. You're going to say that the blocks are starting to look different because I'm rotating the direction that I'm cutting and that's good, that's actually what it's supposed to be. to make and even if it's not, that's what I'm going to say, I'm supposed to make, how cute is it, I just love how I can do three quick stitches and have a bunch of fun blocks, this is definitely my kind of thing part.
Now each strip unit should give you four blocks of each of the two different types, so once that's done, all you have to do is open them. Now when I place the block in front of me, it still has a little bit of seam here holding it together. together as a little secret I can separate it and open it as a fun little gift and there's my first look now we're going to do the same with everyone now I have two sets of blocks that are the same but different and all I have left to do is iron them and cut them out, then I can start making my block.
Now these cuties are ready to be assembled. For each block I need two, so here you can see that I have two identical blocks ready. to go and what I'm going to do is just rotate them and align them like this and that forms a block for my quote. I love how he makes this little V right there, of course, I'm easily amused, so that helps and You can see what the second version will look like now, if I wanted to, I could go crazy and mix it up and you know, make them look like this, but I'm not going to do it, you know why, because the boss says it shouldn't be done.
That and I'm a rule follower. I'm going to do what you say to do. I'm going to fold them over and I'm going to go ahead and sew them along that seam, so here are two of my blocks and I need to make a bunch more of those so I can make my quilt, so I'm going to do that and

show

you how they go together. Each row has six strands. I'm going to sew those blocks together, add some borders, and then have my quilt finished. I love the beautiful colors of the quilt and I especially love the simple design as it required no thinking on my part now I have to base this quilt sandwich in order to get to the quilting.
I love to use fusible batting when making my quote. I lay down the backing first, lay the batting sticky side up, and then lay out the top using an iron to help hold it all together since this quilt is so easy to put together. I can spend a little more time showing them how I like it. I quote my quotes, so here's the block. What I love to do is start with a foot first which allows me to get nice precise straight lines without much effort which is great after

midnight

, then I'll use actual dots on the blocks as reference

point

s that I can use for quilting so you don't have to make any markings, which is another win for nighttime quilting.
Now you can quote one block at a time, but I'm going to join several blocks together. Because it's a more efficient way to close, I'm going to go from one point in to the point and then do the same on the opposite side of the next block, what it allows me to do is quote a nice long straight line, like this which no I don't have to reposition the quilt as much and when I'm ready to come back I can do the same on the opposite side, from one point to another, estimating about an inch inside the next corner and coming back now, the benefit of this is like I said , it's a more efficient way to do it, those lines always cross these points, which makes my close look intentional or let's say I do grish either way, it's going to look cool, so I can't wait to get started, pivot, lift my foot . and rotate the quilt again.
I'm trying to align the quilt in the direction that makes all of this easier and move on to the next point. Now that I'm ready to do the opposite side of my blocks, I can rotate everything. quilt around or cut thread and go back to the starting point and do the opposite side which is what I think I'm going to do here I went ahead and closed with a series of blocks so you can see how it looks nice straight lines going from one point to another , they're kind of straight, but that definitely works for me now if I want to add a little more clothing, which I do because I love dressing them up a lot, I usually say add too. a lot of clothes and then take out a little more.
I'm going to do the same thing, but my lines will echo inside, so what I just posted, same basic idea, just a different endpoint, so in this block you can see that I raised two rows of those lines and I love how They remained, but now I'm going to add some curves to this OnPoint quilt. I'm cracking up, so since I have a free motion quilting foot in my hands, I'm doing all the controlling here. so let's see if I can channel my Kirby Kirby Souls or something like that happens at that point. I'm trying to put my eye on where I want to end up.
I don't worry so much about the curve itself, just where it ends well, it seems like I need a little more practice, so I'll keep going. I know the problem is that I need to relax a little. Sometimes I get really tense trying to quilt those perfectly curved lines, so let's go. I find what I do with my drinking and free movement, sometimes trying harder isn't the answer, it's relaxing and I'm just having fun now that she's in a chocolate wrapper right there, so as you can see I quilted my curved lines . I love how they look like a flower that brings together a whole theme of the fabric and I guess if that looks like a flower then it would look like some kind of pointy pot, well now if you want to close with me, I have drawn See all the closing diagrams so that You can see exactly what I place where and you can find that information in the description box below.
Now I have a lot of these blocks to quote, so it's time to fire them up and get them done. Oh, shoot, maybe too much. Thank you very much for joining me tonight. I had a great time working on a quilt that was easy to put together, which meant I had more time quilting using the walking foot and the free motion quilting foot where you folded a fun quilt. That left me plenty of time to snack, in fact, I think I deserve a treat, let's see what the chocolate has to say. Those who subscribe to the midnight show will find happiness, so be sure to subscribe.
Thank you very much and see you. then you
