Today I'm making a delicious

ground

beef

and

potato

casserole

baked in the oven this is going to be good so today seemed like a good day for a

casserole

I had a pound of lean

ground

beef

I was trying to figure out what to do with it so I had two pounds of

potato

es I have an onion some fresh garlic cloves I'm going to prep all my ingredients and we're going to start by making this casserole right so to cut the potatoes I'm just going to slice about a quarter inch thick as evenly as possible too when i peeled it i left a flat surface and this will help keep a potato stable when you go to cut it nice so my potatoes are cut in cold water i'm going to turn on the heat i'm just going to add a little bit of chicken bouillon powder to give it a little flavor to the potatoes you don't have to do that like I said salt works well and once it boils I'm going to let it go for maybe a minute so I'm going to turn off the heat it started to boil r.

It's been a minute so I'm going to remove these potatoes and run them under cold water to stop the

cooking

process because as they cook while they're hot they'll get mushy and continue to cook ok now to work on the ground beef. mix here I have a cold skillet I'm going to add my one pounder I'm going to turn the heat on I'm going to add a little bit of salt maybe a quarter teaspoon of ground black pepper now I'm just going to break up and start

my ground beef while the beef is Dora I just want to go over some of the ingredients I'm using and the proportions are really up to you but I'm going to add some dried parsley some dried chives here I have some smoked paprika garlic powder onion powder I'm going to add some salt for seasoning i really didn't add much salt to the ground beef yet so instead of just adding more salt i'm going to add a little bit of seasoned salt you could also add a little bit of beef broth into the mix if you have that i like to do that sometimes here I have a small ion diced one half of a small diced bell pepper I have about three or four cloves of garlic that I minced and I'll use two cups of low sodium beef broth I'm going too to adding salt and pepper to taste towards the end and i suggest you test your dishes when you are cooking with salt or seasonings because that is personal it depends on your preference so anyways back to the meat ok so the meat ground has an advantage and I'm going to add a little onion the onion that I cut and sautéed very well and the bell pepper.

I'm actually going to start adding my dry spices and seasonings, so I'm going with my garlic powder like a half teaspoon to a teaspoon. I'm going to add a little bit of all purpose flour it's about 5 tablespoons and I'm just going to combine very well with the ground beef and cook this mixture for about a minute now I'm going to add 2 cups of low sodium beef broth with my next cup which is 2 cups i'm going to bring this to a simmer and let it thicken so it thickens up pretty good now this is optional i'm going to add a bunch of cooking not much let me taste half of this just a little bit as I said it is optional this is just to give it a little bit of you know seasoning and flavor gives it a good color but it is optional it is not necessary I am just going to add what is left in the spoon and this is ready I am going to try it to season with pepper and set aside until you're ready to use it okay now I'm going to make a béchamel sauce or a creamy white sauce so here in my little pot I'm going to add four tablespoons of unsalted butter I'm just going to start melting that now that it's melted I go to add all purpose flour over low heat I'm just going to combine and cook the flour for a minute you just want to make sure you combine well and get rid of any lumps I'm going to add room temperature to cool the milk that's two cups just going in little by little.

I really want the sauce to be a little thick and creamy, so I'm going to mix a little at a time, let it simmer, thicken, and add more milk. This will take a while. and I'm still working on a low heat setting ok so now I've added the two cups of milk that I want me to have on a gentle simmer I'm going to add just a pinch of salt like an eighth of a teaspoon and I'm going to stir continuously and let this simmer gently and it will thicken up i want it to thicken up a bit more the heat is off my sauce my cream sauce has thickened up so i'm going to add just a little bit of freshly grated nutmeg stir it up and this is done so let's make this casserole i've already taken about two to three tablespoons of butter so i'm going to layer all my potatoes on the bottom in a single layer as best as i can they could be stacked on top of each other now i'm going to season with a little bit of salt for seasoning just a pinch all around just for seasoning the layer I'm going to go in with that smoked paprika ground black pepper onion powder I'm going to add a little bit of shredded cheddar cheese and for the whole recipe I'm using I'm going eight ounces of shredded cheddar I'm just going to add a little bit of half add half to the bottom layer here then I'm going wit h my ground beef mixture here on top of the potatoes you're going to spread that out in a layer uniform now I'm going with my béchamel sauce all on top of the ground beef this smells amazing I'm going to go in with the rest of the cheddar now I'm going to put this in a preheated 375 degree Fahrenheit oven uncovered for about 35 to 40 minutes or until all bubbled and browned on top, so I hope you give this recipe a try.
