ring. Yes, I think some of you may have noticed. And we had a lot of fun at our wedding. It was such an incredible night that we really wanted to share it with you. - Hence the wedding video, from there. - So, we've edited this video to be a little different than a traditional wedding highlights video, mainly because we wanted to show you the day from our perspective, but also to give you some of our thought process that went into it. in planning. and I like the design decisions and stuff, because we had a lot of fun putting it all together and choosing all the things.

Now before we get started, we wanted to say a big thank you to our cinematographers, Amari Productions, who did an amazing job filming and also helped make sure I didn't pick up a camera all day, because I was so nervous. I was going to grab one and start filming the additional location footage. Me too Yes We would also like to thank our wedding planner Marnie at So Smitten Special Events who has been incredibly helpful over the last few months. There aren't a ton of pictures of Marnie because she was running around doing things all night, but you'll see her here and there. - Here and there.

Also, thank you to all of our other vendors for helping make our big day so special. With that being said, this is what happened on our wedding day. And I think the best place to start is with us getting ready in the morning. I stayed like in a hotel the night before, I was with Crusty... at home. That way, the morning of, all the ladies like to get involved in the wedding could do their hair and makeup in my room. It was kind of an explosion. I had a mask on for most of it and then around 10am. m., Dave and the Amari Productions crew came over to start filming.

Alright. Hello. We are preparing. We are preparing. In fact, we've been preparing for a few hours. There have been many people coming and going. You are here now, other people were here before. They had like a caravan of relatives, I only had the cat. But we made my mom wear makeup. We had Tyler's mom do her makeup. We had Tyler's sister do her makeup because she is the officiant, but also because she is Tyler's sister and then we also had my bridesmaids do their makeup and hair. Are my bridesmaids here? -Yeah. Yeah, some of them we were at Target a second ago.

I was checking in but we have bridesmaids in the house. We have Kaitlyn somewhere. "Woo" from a distance. A distant procession was heard. Oh, also, this is my wonderful glam squad. I should have started with that. Alright. This is Kaylee Melissa doing my hair - Hello - of Decade Video fame And this is Yuki doing my makeup. Hello! and I would say generally we're going to kind of um, and then: Who was calling you? - Nobody ever told me. It's just a mystery. For the hair, we wanted something like: There's a lot going on. There is a lot of hair.
I think my overall hair and makeup goal was just to have something that matched the fantasy, medieval vibes of my dress and my dad told me that I ended up looking like Aragorn's bride. So I think we did it. I think we're almost done with my makeup, except for the final touch on the lips, where I'll be using one of our ColourPop Franken-Lipsticks: Shameless plug, it's happening. It's my wedding day. Alright. Nobody can say no to me. - That was, uh, very smooth. That was, uh, very smooth. I am waiting. Yes my nails weren't done today either, but Christine did them yesterday.
So it's just logical. There's not really a good b-roll of my simple nails here, but there is a shot of me picking Tyler's nose later. So keep an eye on that. That happened. So, with my hair and makeup done, it was time to make the reveal of looking in the mirror for the first time. Which I didn't anticipate would be so emotional because almost immediately I started crying. There's a lot of my crying face in this video, so know not to worry about that. I cry a lot in this video. Well. Alright. That's not what I expected to do.
Ok, I'm fine! So, after my sobbing session, we piled into an Uber and headed to our venue, Carondelet House. Where he had been basically all day. Well, then we are here at the Carondelet house, which is our place. This is like our living room for me and my groomsmen. I was supposed to do our first check-in like this at my house and then I got lost in the fray. So I had mistakenly entered Carondelet's house first and the cinematographers had correctly entered our house first. So when they got to our house, they thought I had run away.
Runaway Groom! I was too anxious! But I feel like it's okay for us to check-in here. My house is very dirty. My cat Crusty, if you don't know him, has been dragging trash everywhere. So we better be here. The other dynamic of my morning was that we forgot to give me wedding shoes. So I'm changing shoes with my dad for the ceremony and I had to stuff them with toilet paper just to make them fit. Hey, you know what? That will help you be quite comfortable now. So yeah, the shoes didn't think about that, but wait after those two mini fire drills.
My groomsmen started showing up. This is Sean and besides Sean, we also had Ben, Block, my brother-in-law James and my dad, who was actually my godfather. Dad: dun-dun-daa *shoo* And once everyone was there, it was time to get dressed. And he was wearing a black velvet tuxedo jacket. Looks great! I'm going to be sweating either way, I think, just because you know the votes and all that. There are lots of lights outside and then as a finishing touch we get a rare sighting of Marnie here. The Marnicle! while they buttoned my button. This was my wedding look.
Watching fly Thank you. Is this "ready to get married"? Now, while Tyler was downstairs getting dressed, I was upstairs hanging out with my gang in the bridal suite and I think I'm about to get dressed. I think that's what's on the calendar. So let's do it. Now. In fact, I needed help putting the dress on because, in addition to being amazing, it's great. It also ended up being a little flimsy and of course classic on me as soon as I put it on. That too. And of course, in my classic style, as soon as I got into it, my eyes started to well up.
I was whining all day. I feel like actually a good portion of the public has seen this dress in muslin form. We ended up choosing this beaded scalloped print fabric that has a sort of Art Deco/mermaid feel to it. Also, I didn't realize this would happen when I chose the fabric, but the dress weighs 30 pounds. I can't say it's 30 pounds of just beads, it's basically just beads and even though our fabric was heavy and had a life of its own, I have no regrets. our choice because I really loved how it ended up looking. As if it were inevitable, but I'm going to try not to creak as I walk down the aisle.
So after that, we added my finishing touches, like my jewelry. I'm like where's my ear? Literally where? As well as a light blue golden headdress. As well as a light blue golden headdress. Now Kaylee and I had a hard time finding "the right one" like we had been searching for months. So she ended up making this one herself and it turned out so perfect that she just totally nailed it. She did it. She did it. Alright, I think I'm usually downstairs and see Tyler, so we decided to do this thing called a "first look," which is basically like a moment before the ceremony.
So we decided to do this thing called "first look", which is basically like a moment before the ceremony where the bride and groom reveal themselves to each other. That sounds bad. Mainly to get rid of some nerves, but also so you can start hanging out together and take some pictures before the ceremony. I'm ready. Oh my god, we're a couple of sad sacks. - We are not good at this. Ready? Whoa Oh wow We finally made it. We stopped whining. It's a little crazy to me that we remember so many little things but forget about your shoes.
To be fair, they were supposed to be standing and I didn't even think about them. So after looking at each other, the general consensus was that next it was time to take pictures. ] So we took a ton of photos both inside the small atrium where we first saw it and outside the front of Carondelet's house, both with each other and with our wedding party. It was very difficult for us to be serious with these Greetings. Hey, hey, greetings. Heyheyhey It's like uh, bey-beyblades? Beyblades??? With that came that one. It is an analogy of marriage. Our photographer.
Alex was very patient with us. Yes Is that what I'm talking about? It is an analogy of marriage. Our photographer, Alex, was very patient with us. Yeah, he's a cool guy. It's like the tops fighting each other. I think they are beyblades! Yes, Ok. We will look for it. So we filmed the next part of the video as the last thing we did before the guests started arriving, mainly to calm my own nerves because I really wanted to get footage of everything and was irrationally nervous that we wouldn't. So we liked to take a tour of the entire place for you.
But just a heads up, it wasn't 100% set up yet. Now the overall theme of our wedding was "A Starry Night." So we had lots of stars, moons and twinkling lights on. However, because the rooms near the entrance of the Carondelet house are already quite decorated in a vintage style, we reserved most of the celestial decorations for the back of the house. home and we left these things here as they were. And we were thinking of it almost as a Narnia situation where these front rooms were like the professor's house, and then as you get deeper into the building, there was more magic going on. .
We chose an espresso martini because it's brown like Crusty and also because it has a lot of caffeine. Something like a classy Four Loko. Continuing from the front halls, there was a small hallway between the front and back of the house. So we decided to decorate it and make it like the entrance to Narnia. And these hanging stars were actually our escort cards. So people could figure out where they would sit for dinner after that. There was the First Look atrium, Tyler's little room, and then we had our main ceremony space, which I would say is the room we tried to decorate the most.
The other reason I wanted to have this cloudy sky background was that in this main room, they actually have a large non-removable mirror in the back, which I wasn't sure we'd want as such a strong focal point. the ceremony. And finally, we had this back atrium where our photo booth was going to be. Which had this cool, old moon as its centerpiece. And with our photo booth area visited, our tour concluded. After that, it was time for us all to hide upstairs in the bridal suite, because our guests were starting to arrive. Okay, no, this is not a little bit. -Kaylee has super glue! - There you go.
Jinx, but uh, yeah. No, let's do it. There was a lot going on with Tyler's shoes. I think maybe it was like our Charlotte and Harry moment, like in Sex in the City. As if little things have to go wrong at your wedding. But after gluing my soles and some final to-dos, it was time to make it official, like official-official. Alright. They were about to enter. I'm walking with my niece and my mom, so we'll see how it goes. I'm definitely feeling some butterflies, but we've got this. Now, as we mentioned earlier, Tyler's sister was our officiant, so she was our first person down the aisle.
Then we had Tyler, Tyler's mom, and baby Ellie. Then we had the entire bridal party looking elegant and finally it was my turn to walk down the aisle. Welcome everyone. Please take a seat. I know everyone is as excited as I am to be gathered here in Los Angeles to celebrate Safiya and Tyler's marriage. We are now keeping much of the ceremony and, like most of our vows, off the internet. We wrote them ourselves. They are a little soft. We cried, we laughed, Tyler called himself an idiot. "So if you really want to marry this idiot, let's do it." It's what I originally wanted to say when I proposed, so I had to work on it.
My vows were all over the place, I talked about zombies for a while, that was actually quite relevant to our initial relationship. You exposed some of our intimate secrets... Yes, you did... "And I'll pop your pimples even when they're in nondescript crevices. "Aw!" But I think they were good! I loved them. Besides all that, In I actually wanted to show you this that we brought to the ceremony: "Safiya and Tyler have chosen to affirm their love by lighting a unity candle. This candle was actually made by Safiya and Tyler last year while filming avideo for her YouTube channel, and it's called her Franken candle." Now, when our wedding planner asked us if we wanted to make a unitary candle, we knew we had the perfect candle for the job, so we had to do it. "So did I.
Sorry guys if it smells like blueberry pancakes in here. - It's the candle, not me." - "It's a dominant scent." - "Yes, it's a dominant scent." So after that we cried some more We did the whole ring thing, - And you know, the marriage part itself. -- - And then: "By the power vested in me, I declare you as a newly married couple! You can kiss." And that was our ceremony. We were married. We're still married. We're married! There you go. Okay, how was that? Do you think I cried too much? No, I don't think you cried too much. - No? - No.
I thought we kept our vows pretty well. Yes. Very good! We had a nice guest appearance from Ellie here and there "At the right time! At the right time!" But overall I thought it was great. It's probably stinking up the place right now. It'll probably spoil everyone's appetite. Are you okay? Are you still a little excited? Okay. Okay! Let's take some photos! Newlywed couple. - Oh, mine is totally off center. - Yeah. - We'll figure it out. - So after that, we had to take some family photos before the sun went down. and then we moved on to cocktail hour.
Now, while everyone was in the front foyers enjoying Crustinis and appetizers, the ceremony space in the back was actually becoming our dinner space, Ooooooh, yes. Looks pretty amazing Wow! We got a little glimpse of it. For our tables, we have gray velvet tablecloths with black and gold cutlery and plates and also little personalized moons to designate where everyone was sitting. And for our centerpieces, we had a variety of vintage and vampire library paraphernalia. Like Beauty and the Beast style terrariums, old-looking books, and moss-covered flowers. Yes. And then we had our love table at the front of the room, which had more of those moss-covered flowers and lots of black candles.
But dinner time was quickly approaching. So after everyone took their seats, we and our bridal party enjoyed our grand entrance. Please help me with a big round of applause as we welcome our newlywed couple! Give up for Safiya and Tyler! I think sometimes people plan things for their entries, but we kind of forget, so everyone did their own thing; I think they might have spilled right onto Simplybenlogic's head. - I'm sorry Ben. But anyway, after a little dinner and making the rounds greeting everyone, we were onto the toasting portion of the night, starting with Tyler's dad.
Now I feel very honored that Tyler asked me to be the best man so he could toast, but interestingly, this is not the first time I have given a toast at a Tyler and Safiya wedding. Now, as we all know, because we are all loyal subscribers and we all "shamed" the like button and "shamed" the subscribe button, I don't know why everyone is laughing. I mean, I hope you're all subscribed. They had a wedding in Hong Kong this summer and at that wedding I gave a very impromptu toast that wasn't very good. Safiya was very nice and said, and I quote, "Well, that wasn't so bad." No, it was all bad, believe me, it was really bad, in fact, it wasn't even close to the best toast that was given that day.
The best toast came from our Hong Kong hosts, Thomas and Winkle, and it was "Apple. Apple, May your hearts join together like an apple." So I'm really happy to have the opportunity to take a mulligan and redo it and see if I can at least get to the level of Thomas and Winkle. Now, we're not going to put her entire speech here, but I think she did a great job with her toast and definitely got some of the emotional stuff in there. But I think she was also able to incorporate a lot of different things into the mix, like MacDonald's wedding, promoting our channel, Shakespeare.
Because, as we all know, subscribers and loyal viewers, Safiya is a huge Shakespeare fan. We have some Henry V, a little Tempest. And she really got the crowd going. Now my dad made the second toast and as you can probably tell by his guitar, he played a song too. Let me say a few words about Safiya and Tyler. Of course, I have two really wonderful children. And now I have Tyler as another boy, so we are very happy about that. He actually he's not a great speaker. He actually he's not a great speaker. I would say, but I think he did a great job.
Yes, I loved him! And then he and my brother played a little version of Yesterday by the Beatles, but with the lyrics altered. I'll start by apologizing to Sir Paul McCartney because we might ruin one of his beautiful songs, but we'll do what we can. In fact, my dad used to be in a Beatles cover band in the '60s in Denmark. And I think it's been a while since he picked up a guitar. But recently he and my brother have been playing. Unfortunately, we can't play his song for you because there would be a copyright claim, but it was really sweet and I totally missed it.
Basically. Yes, one more applause! For the Father and Brother of the Bride Now, before we could really let loose, as some of you may know, we had this whole change into a black wedding dress choreographed as the first dance on the agenda. So after the toasts, we had to run upstairs because I had to change in about five minutes. Yes, we are in the middle of a wardrobe change. The MVP right now. Because Yuki is touching me. It really was a disaster. And besides Yuki trying to save my face and a little lipstick change, Hayley was also pulling my hair back for party reasons.
More aerodynamic. And she replaced my crown with some cosmic pins on the back of my head to make it look like a Milky Way but made of hair. And once we had that in order, and once I was completely set up, we headed to the dance floor because it was time to tango. So our first dance was actually a recreation of the tango scene from The Addams Family Values. Unfortunately, that music is also copyrighted, so we can't play it for you, but we spent a few months learning this routine. None of us are dancers. None of us are dancers, so please be kind to us, but we thought.
It would be fun to do it as a performance situation and, in addition to the choreo, if there were some props, some audience participation. Some bullfighter and some sleight of hand. I think I nailed it, as well as this whole move where Tyler spins me around. around my butt, which may or may not be called, the buns are rolling. None of our guests knew exactly what we were going to do, so I was very happy to be able to surprise them with this. After that, in quick succession we cut our cake, which sadly was not the Franken cake, but this beautiful All-Black Cake that may or may not stain your mouth.
We liked the father-daughter, mother-son dances, and we also liked a giant group photo. And then we checked in one last time, okay, so we did our first dance and cut the cake. Yes, simply many things. happen. We're both a little sweaty. Tyler's teeth are a little black, my lips are red too, everything, but it's like purple. I was super, super nervous about the dance. Yes. I think, all things considered, we did a pretty good job. Yeah, I think there were a couple of hiccups here and there. I went for the second one, but to roll on the floor we'll have to film a dance practice video.
So people can see that the full buns are being rolled. I think we got it back Yeah, I got mad Yeah, a whole look got me but it worked and we're going to do it and we kissed and I think I put the knife in my mouth at the right time, that was fun. . I thought I had never done it with the lighter and thank goodness that didn't happen. I think it's time to celebrate and have fun. Let's do it. After. The rest of the night was mostly partying. We arrived at that sick Good Night Moon photo booth.
Tyler's mouth was still a little purple though and then we just smashed it on the dance floor. Would you say we broke it? Yeah, there was like an endless stream of songs to get to the wedding, a little scream, a little trip, a little Britney and then we ended the night with a prom queen, which is always a solid choice and we were so happy to everyone was there and we just had a great time. So that was our wedding. Oh, also one last thing: when I threw the bouquet, I accidentally hit one of our editors, Claire, in the face.
But she assured us that she still had fun. So we're all doing very well on that front. Thank you to everyone who attended our wedding, as well as everyone who participated. I've put links to all of them in the description below, so be sure to check them out. And yes, that is the essence. TL DW we are married. We are married. Hell. Yes.
