Note 20 Ultra vs. Note 10 Plus

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a beast of a phone, but it's not cheap starting at US$1,300. Enter the Note 10 plus, also a great phone, but a bit cheaper, so let's find out which phone is better value, obviously the Note. 20

ultra

is Samsung's latest phone, it has more features and more performance than the Note 10 plus, but it's still a great phone and was one of the best phones of 2019, so I wanted to see how they compare in this video. to compare everything from the design, s pen performance, additional battery features and of course the camera, so let's get started, let's talk about the battery and performance.

Both phones are incredibly capable and I can show you all the benchmarks until the cows come home, but it really is like that. For me it all comes down to real world use and I haven't been able to throw anything at these phones that they haven't been able to handle, even though the Note 10 plus is a year old and still performs just as well. Compared to the Note 20 Ultra, they have the same amount of RAM at 12 gigabytes, so in terms of background and startup apps and all that, they are both pretty much the same in that sense, the main difference is the processor now on the US snapdragon 865 plus on the

and the snapdragon 855 on the

note

10 plus now this will also influence performance so to all my fellow Aussies and everyone else around the world outside of US they will use an exynos chip for the most part I haven't used the exynos version of either of these two phones so if you have any ideas on what the performance is like let me know.

I'd love to know what you think is incredibly important about battery life. and both phones have slightly different sized batteries - the 4,500 milliamp hour battery on the note 20 ultra compared to 4,300 on the note 10 plus - but I'll just say that both phones can definitely get me through the date, but the battery Usage depends on a number of different factors, including 5G and cellular reception screen resolution screen brightness for commercial processors new individual usage patterns aka video taking us pen usage movie playback motion camera usage steps had what you had for breakfast caffeine intake how many people use netflix logan and if you are subscribed to watch it not all wizard rights are guaranteed now that I said I was still a little disappointed overall with the battery life I got from the note 20 ultra, but I have to say that the standby time was actually, much better than I expected, probably because when the screen is static it automatically switches to 60 hertz thanks to that variable refresh rate setting, but the Note 10 plus is a beast for me and gets me through the day and then. some quite easily, the note 20 ultra.

I can see that regular users definitely need to recharge a little more. If you choose to use it at 120 hertz you will get through the day without problems, only if you are a very heavy user perhaps. Consider going back to 60. I know I don't want to do that either as far as storage goes. Both phones have expandable storage via micro USB up to one terabyte, but for built-in storage, the base storage is actually different and noteworthy. 10 plus has the advantage, it comes in 256 as entry level or base level, while in note 20 ultra the entry level or base storage doesn't really have an entry level because your 1300 phone has 128 gigabytes, I mean come on ,Samsung, yes Put 8k video recording back on this beast, give me adequate storage, seems a bit rude otherwise another factor that could influence your decision one way or another is 5g or not 5g, for What the note 20 ultra only has 5g by default and the note 10 plus was initially launched as a 4g lte version and then it also has a 5g variant that you can buy, although it costs a little more.

Now let's talk about cameras because the note 20 ultra offers a lot of riches for photographers. I feel like a contestant on a game show when I use this camera because it's like people are throwing cash at me. I try to use it and take all the cash or all the features that I can use at the same time so that the hardware itself is actually quite different between these two phones and for me I think the camera presents the biggest point of difference between the two, so they both have an ultra-wide-angle main rear camera and a telephoto lens.

Now on the Note 10, it is also a double telephoto lens. The Note 20 Ultra's camera has a 5x optical zoom that can then go up to that crazy 50x zoom. To summarize, don't use the 50x zoom, stop at 10-20x and you will be very impressed with the results. As long as you have generally good light in the photos in between, you can definitely tell that Samsung has put a lot of work into its photo processing algorithms on the Note 20 Ultra. There is also the 108-megapixel sensor that gives you the benefits of pixel binning. Get maximum detail from your images.

I can see a significant difference between the photos of both phones side by side. Overall, the Note 20 Ultra's images have a little more contrast, are a little more punchy, and it's clear that the dynamic range is much better on the newer phone than on the older phone. The Note 10 plus also has that timer flight camera that is no longer on the Note 20 Ultra. It really doesn't do much good if you want to get things done. like scanning a 3D object, I guess you can use it on the note 10 plus, but I used it once and a year later I never touched that feature again.

Night photos on the note 20 ultra are clearly much brighter and clearer than those on the note 10 plus, so it's a no-brainer, the newer phone produces better results. Autofocus is also slightly different on both phones. Now the Note 20 ultra uses a laser autofocus system to address the issues of the. automatic phase detection system on the galaxy s20 ultra which, frankly, was a bit of a mess when it was first released. Now the AF system has improved on the note 20 ultra, but it still looks a little jittery in the video and is not as smooth as I am.

I'd like to, but speaking of video, the Note 20 Ultra really has an ace up its sleeve when it comes to pro video mode. This is the ability to be able to change not only all manual exposure control modes, but also select audio options. a live histogram, zooming audio levels with smooth zoom feature. There's so much to that mode and 8k recording plus a wide variety of frame rates and aspect ratios. If you're serious about video, then the note 20 ultra will be the one. Of the two phones to buy overall, these two phones feel more like an evolution than a revolution in design, so I mean the jump from the Note 9 to the Note 10 plus was significant, but the jump from the Note 10 plus to the Note 20 ultra it is not.

They are very different, so the screens both have beautiful curved edges 6.8 inches on the note 10 plus versus 6.9 inches on the note 20 ultra. They both have the same overall dynamic amoled screen, the note 20 ultra's screen was a little brighter and easier to see in broad daylight, but they both look fantastic and the experience of going to the movies on social media, taking Photos playing games on both look fantastic, so I'm very happy with the performance of both. That said, the size of the Note 10 plus just works a little. Better for smaller hands like mine, the note 20 ultra is manageable but does get a little tedious for extended use if you have larger hands, so this won't present any challenge.

Next up are the screens well, so we talk about the same thing. Dynamic AMOLED display, however, the refresh rate on the Note 20 Ultra is 120 Hertz and it is a variable or adaptive display refresh rate compared to 60 Hertz on the Note 20 Ultra. If you've used a high refresh rate display, you'll know what I'm all about. I'm talking about it being very smooth and the experience is silky and buttery. All those adjectives you can use to describe it are really nice and I actually thought that when I used the Note 10 plus again I would notice a bigger difference I think.

The first 30 seconds I was like, look this is gross, 60 hertz, of course, thanks and then after 30 seconds I was totally fine and got used to it again, what might present a challenge is what happens when the two of you get together. lay down a surface now, if you do what I do, which is use the stylus with the phone horizontally, you will notice that the note 20 ultra has a rocking chair effect when you try to write on it, it's a bit annoying So obviously, To mitigate that, I would definitely put a case on it. I've been using some pretty thin cases.

One of my favorites right now is Spigen liquid air. It actually creates a really nice layer so that it lies completely flat instead of The only reason you might want to put a case on them as well is for durability, which is why they both have Gorilla Glass. The Note 10 Plus uses Gorilla Glass 6. The Note 20 Ultra uses the new Gorilla Glass Victus, which is drop rated. from up to 2 meters or 6.6 feet, long story short, we've done durability and drop testing, glass breakage, so you'll definitely need to put a case on both phones. The other thing is an in-screen fingerprint reader which both of them have on the Note 10 plus, although look, that fingerprint reader has been so problematic since day one, the Note 20 ultra I haven't had any problems with it, so yes, the Note 20 ultra is much more reliable in that sense, speaking of fingerprints, I have said it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Note 10 Plus is a fingerprint magnet. It looks like a crime scene if you use it without a case because of that shiny finish. It looks beautiful, but yeah, you'll never be able to touch it if you don't. I want it to look like a total mess the note 20 ultra thanks to that matte finish on the back it looks much better when you use it without a case there aren't as many fingerprints and it's not as messy now let's talk about the s pen because that's it a big reason why you choose a Galaxy Note device over anything else now that the s pen location has changed.

It's the first time in the note list that it moves from the right side on the 10 plus to the left hand. On the 20 ultra's side, I complained about this when I first took the note 20 ultra out of the box, but I'm completely used to it now, now I just have a little muscle memory to know which direction you should hold your phone to getting the pencil out, it's not as important as I thought it was going to be when I first tried it. Now, the key thing you need to know is that the s pen is actually very similar in both the pen and the pen itself.

It's virtually identical, the main differences you'll really want to know about is the latency between the pen, it's now 45 milliseconds on the note 10 plus and 9 milliseconds on the note 20 ultra. Now, in theory, this means that it will feel much more realistic to write and use the s pen on the note 20 ultra thanks to that 120 hertz screen than on the note 10 plus, but when using them side by side I didn't notice that big difference. I think my brain would be able to tell the difference between 9 and 45 milliseconds, but I don't know what's going on above. I really couldn't tell that much of a difference.

I think if I was an artist or someone who really wanted to achieve it. The super fine and precise brush works with the s pen, it would make a big difference, but for casual use I didn't really find any problems. Both phones have air gestures, so the ability to use the s pen to say launch the camera. the app switches between the selfie and rear camera or take a photo remotely, switch between tracks and your music app and all that good stuff the s20 ultra adds plus some aerial actions so you can go back and forth between the web pages like navigating back and forth taking a screenshot and then scribbling on the screen look, they're not that useful because they just don't work that well and they don't really respond very well to my commands, maybe I'm doing it wrong but I've been using them for several weeks now and they just don't have anything more intuitive or more accurate about what I've been using in them.

Let's do a quick check on all the other features we haven't talked about yet. For charging, both have a 25 watt charger in the box that you can use to charge juice super fast and will allow you to completely discharge it in about an hour or just under. Now the Note 10 plus actually has the advantage, I don't know why, wow, it's the older phone, but it is still compatible with the 45 watt charger that is purchased separately and it will charge us at the speed of the lightning while the note 20 ultra doesn't support 45 watt charging so you can use a 45 watt charger but it will just stop at 25 so it won't give you that extra boost of charging speed as fast as it would. does on the Note 10 and, again, there are a few other conveniences, including wireless platforms. the note 20 ultra and theability to basically use it with your big screen TV now it's miracast but it's recommended that you use a samsung smart tv for this feature so i couldn't try it because it's not a samsung.

Smart TV You also get Xbox Game Pass support on the Note 20 Ultra again, although at the time of recording this it hadn't been released yet so I haven't had a chance to try it out. The speakers on the Note 20 Ultra are also significantly louder and more defined than the note 10 plus I listened to them both side by side with the same track one with the note 10 plus and against my ear and the next with the note 20 ultra and my eardrum practically exploded because of how loud it was and I didn't expect it and now everything is ringing the note 20 ultra is also the first samsung phone to have a uwb or ultra wideband chip to facilitate faster transfers wirelessly, although you have to do it with another phone which is a samsung phone which has a uwb chip and both phones also support near android.

Now it all comes down to the part of the video where I need to choose which phone I think is the best value, there's no doubt that if you can afford the note 20 ultra and especially if you're already coming from an older Samsung phone and you get some pretty significant discounts if you do. changes, it might be worth it for you, especially if you want the high refresh rate screen and also all the extra camera functionality, but this time I'm going to go with the cheaper option, which is the note 10 plus. There is something about this phone that is more than the sum of its parts, it just has that x-factor appeal that is still amazing even a year after its release, I think it is a better option for someone with a smaller hand like me, the cameras are still very good, the fingerprint reader is annoying but I can get over that I can use a pin and overall I think this is better value for money than the more expensive phone so for me I choose the Note 10 plus, but maybe for you the more expensive phone is the best option, so I hope that what I have talked about throughout this video helps you decide which one it is.
