NEW JABRA ELITE 85T (The New ANC King)

Mar 04, 2024
What you're loo

king

at here are the new Jabra Elite 85-T earbuds which are really exciting because they essentially took last year's 75T, one of my favorite pairs of earbuds of all time, and made all the right changes to it. they added qi wireless charging with active noise cancellation, they added a lot of things that I'll talk about later in this video, but they're really giving us a really strong contender for one of the best pairs of headphones in 2020 and honestly, probably for the biggest. part of 2021. So we have a lot to talk about in this video.

I've always been a big fan of the Jabber headphones, but there are a few caveats to keep in mind: These are definitely not for everyone, so stick around for this video, I'll give you a microphone test, an active noise cancellation test, an analysis of sound quality and everything you need to know before considering purchasing these headphones. Now the first thing I want to talk about is what's actually new about the 85ts compared to last year's 75ts, so we already know I like the 75ts and I'll talk more about that in a second, but the new things here are of course the active noise cancellation, now Jabra released an update.

More Interesting Facts About,

So the 75 ts have anc, but it's not as good as this one, so it will be significantly better again. I'll show you later in the video, but this also has, I mean, a little bit bigger case, but it's still a great design. I really like the shape of these cases overall, they are very compact and I think of all the headphone cases out there, this is definitely my favorite design, so it's a really slim compact design that stands upright, a very nice and satisfying lid on top and unlike air pods that lie flat all the time, they can stay upright while you charge them, you can open them very easily, just have them on your desk, the indicators on the front , like everything in this case, I think they did a great job and the texture.

It's not exactly the same as the

jabra

elite

active 75t, it's not that soft silicone coating. Now when we open the case the earbuds are slightly different from the 75 ts, they now have a more open ear design, I don't mean open. The ear pods are like the first generation air pods, which means that instead of a circular silicone tip, it is more of an oval shape, so it doesn't go very deep into the ear canal, but fits quite snugly. well and still has a really good seal. Passive noise bloc

king

which helps make the ANC even more effective, but you'll see the overall shape of these is slightly bulkier than last year's 75t, so a little bigger, most of it is to house the ANC. and the more microphones here, which again There's another difference here, the 85 ts now have six microphones, so three per earbud we'll try that in a second, but it's definitely very exciting now that the

jabra

85 ts are waterproof ipx4, which means they are fine for splashes, but I would.

Don't try to run any type of water on them, if you drop them in a puddle they could take some damage, so they are not as waterproof as these active 75ts, but you know the jobber could throw in a pair of active 85s t in the next few months is very likely, but actually the biggest difference between these two, besides the anc, will be that the jabra elite 85 ts has qi wireless charging, so you can set it up on a wireless charging pad, which It's a fantastic feature. I really complained about the 75 ts and I'm more than happy to see it in these now in terms of fit and comfort with these headphones, I found that when I put them on they are very comfortable at first, they hardly puncture. as deep into your ear canal as I mentioned, but I want to say that once you find the right tip, they are definitely comfortable for a couple of hours.
I've found that for me it's about two and a half hours before I really want to change them or take them off. I let my ears air out a little bit, but the nice thing is that you don't get that high pressure feeling when you put them in your ears like some active noise canceling headphones, they just give you a weird high pressure feeling. These do a great job. of not giving you that feeling, so the comfort is definitely pretty good as long as they stay in your ear, I mean you can shake your head a little bit, you could go for a run in these, they don't have a wing tip, I always do desire.
That Jabba would maybe put a little wingtip on there to hold them in a little bit better if you're doing more dynamic stuff, but I mean, if you're running or biking, they'll hold up really well, it's just once you get started. doing things like burpees or something more like inverted things, if you're working out and doing things like that, you might fall over, that's not unlikely. Now I'll get into the app in a second to show you more features of these headphones, but some of the most important ones, the first one is that they have multi pairing, which is really cool because a lot of other headphones just don't have that feature and when I say so many I I mean most of the headphones I review don't have it. i have that feature so it's cool to be able to connect to my laptop and my phone and then it will automatically switch between them every time you play sound on one or the other, it's a great feature to have and I mean if you ever work with your phone and your laptop next to each other, I mean, you'll know how great that feature really is, of course, they also have the auto play and pause feature, so when I put them in my ear, they play automatically when I take them out. they pause automatically so now let's move on to a microphone test and this is what the jabra elite 85 t headphones sound like, something really cool about them again.
I think Jabra just does a lot of things right with headphones, but one thing they do when you're talking on the phone, for example, or in a video like this where the audio from your microphones is used, you actually have transparency mode on. so you can hear your own voice and don't end up shouting in public. It's easier to talk when you can hear yourself so comment below this is indoors obviously a studio environment right here I'm going to go outside let me know how good this sounds to you first okay guys I'm outside right now. a little bit of a breeze, a lot of traffic, a diesel truck idling right there, so let me know if you can hear what I'm saying, how clear this sounds to you.
I also mentioned that the side tone sounded pretty good, it actually sounds pretty good even here, okay. Guys, now I just want to do a quick ANC test. This will only be of relative magnitude. It's not a perfect test, but it should give you a relative idea of how powerful they are compared to some of the better brands, so start with The Jabra is here. I'm going to play some white noise on my laptop and if we turn it up we can get to about volume 35 36 maybe even 37 so somewhere between volume 35 and 37 without hearing any of that white noise with these headphones. and that is extremely powerful now just for reference these are the airpods pro if I turn them up to volume 26 or 27 is where I can hear that so these are the jabbers that are already significantly more powerful than the airpods now going to the new bose. quiet comfort that has very powerful noise cancellation, it's all about volume, about volume 28 before you can start hearing that sound and now finally the reigning champion, the Sennheiser headphones here, if we turn up the volume, it seems which are about volume 35.
So guys, I guess I'm going to have to go ahead and say it: the jabra elite 85 ts are the new king of active noise cancellation, so of course the mechanical design and quality of the microphone will be important when buying headphones, but probably one of the most important aspects would be the quality of the sound itself, so when analyzing the quality of the sound, the first thing is the codecs, so unfortunately these do not have aptx , but they only have spc and aac, which is similar to what we have. I saw last year with the jabras, they still sound great with that, but I'll talk about what that really means for sound quality.
It is quite congruent with their balance. We'll talk about that in a second, but in general, what is it? What is the balance on these headphones? Well, as we saw with the Jabra 80 or 75 tees last year, Jobber likes to be heavier on the base side and the Jobber 75 ts I said for a lot of people last year might even be too much. On the bass they dialed it back a bit so it's a bit less basic than last year but you'll still have a pretty big boost in the lower half of the frequency spectrum, the base is really picking up which for most of the music is going to Sound more energetic, more vibrant, more exciting, it's going to be a lot of fun to listen to as a casual listener if you're just trying to listen to some rock or some rap, like a lot of mainstream music sounds like.
Really good with these headphones, but if you really look for the small details, if you try, you're an audiophile and you care a lot about fine details in all music, you might find it natural with the neutral balance on these headphones will go at the base the low notes will be very big they will probably swamp many of the higher notes of the guitar and many of the higher vocals some of the harmonics could be drowned out Because of the big bass, that being said you can still hear every string of the guitar . They do a great job of having that low-level detail, especially once you can go into the app's equalizer and adjust things to a more natural realistic balance, but overall I'd say for the sound quality of these they're very exciting, they're great for listening to a lot of bigger music, so like I said, a lot of rock, a lot of rap, I have a playlist.
I tried these out on Spotify, I'll link to them below, but there's a Moon Hooch song on there. I think it's a great example of what these headphones do really well. It's like a really big full song with a lot of likes. drums, saxophone and stuff like that, so that kind of music will sound great on these headphones, but like I said, this won't be the most accurate representation of what the music actually sounded like, it'll be more fun. vibrating version which for a lot of people, especially if you're exercising, will give you a great listening experience, so I was definitely happy with the sound quality.
The only other thing I found was regarding lag or latency. I got 420 milliseconds was what I was measuring and other than that I found that maybe the traps could be a little compressed from time to time, especially on the left earbud, for some reason and that brings me to another thing with these headphones, So there's something about Jabra. The thing I've had to deal with the most for a while now is that they occasionally have some connectivity issues. I didn't experience many. I experienced maybe one or two cuts in the week I was using them and they weren't really bad.
I would just like to cut them off for a while. half a second sounded weird but then it picked back up where it was and then like I said the compression in the traps on the left earbud seemed to be higher than the right, that might be something they'll update. and fix that Java has been pretty good at updating their headphones with you know as much as they can, so it really shouldn't, I don't think that's going to be a problem for anyone, but guys, let's get into the app now that I talked. before we have some features that we want to see in the app and the equalizer in the app so if we go it's going to be the jabra sound plus app so let me open it up right now as far as apps for Headphones work now that they have active cancellation of noise.
I would say this is probably one of my favorite headphone apps because we have those three different presets, so we have my moment one, which you can go down here and change the anc level. or you can listen to it if you want, you can change the equalizer, let's undo that, you can change it like the music preset and then there's white or pink noise at the bottom, if you're interested, you can tap like see everything. the different ones they have if you're trying to take a nap that could be a good thing especially with anc you could really block out a lot of sounds around you between the white noise, the anc and the passive noise blocking i mean you.
I'm not going to hear anything more than that - you can choose a commute version or a focus mode and you can customize all of this like I said instead of checking your settings every time you get on the train or go to your office or whatever whatever you're doing, you're exercising, it's easy to switch between those, I really like it, that at the top tells you the battery levels and if we go to the settings on the top right, you'll see that In fact, again we have a few more things, we can update the firmware and thenbelow you will have some basic settings that you can adjust so that like the audio experience, here you can turn auto play or auto pause on and off and you can change the listening.
You know things like that, so you can go into the calling experience and this will be like hearing your own voice, as I mentioned before, if you want the side tone to be what they call it, you can turn it on or off. and then during a call you can have a separate equalizer so maybe it would be nice to have more treble so you hear voices in a more natural and clean way and then of course the headphone settings will do things with the drums and voice. To guide you on the bottom, you have a lot of really cool settings here that I don't see with many other headphones.
Now you can also go down to customize them and that's how your Custom EQ here gives you a quick little test where it asks you when you can hear certain things and it's supposed to customize it for your own ears and you can also control the functionality of the buttons as well. that my media controls right there you can go. and choose like I said the controls are really functional here, with just one press you can customize it on the left or right side to play and pause, you know how to do that as you can see this whole list of different things you can do. so I love that it's fully customizable with the buttons, it's a fantastic feature that I wish every pair of headphones had and I always hate when they don't use all the functions, so three presses per side, six commands in total, I think it's fantastic. feature that these headphones should have, so once again I think Jabra really does a lot of things right, looking down here, there really isn't much else we want to talk about, so there are a lot of really great things about the jabra elite 85t. headphones, but there are also a couple of drawbacks you need to be aware of: the first is that it's a master-slave error connection style, which means you can never just listen to the left earbud when the right one is in the case because The headphones connect via the right earbud to your device and then the left earbud connects to the right earbud, so it's not my favorite setup for connection and it's definitely a drawback here, but other than that I also found that the rating ipx4 water resistance is I wish it was a little better if you drop them in a puddle they are likely to take damage so just make sure you don't drop them in a puddle but other than that I'm talking about the only differences you have .
You'll notice that what I liked about the 75t is that I thought the 75t was a little more comfortable because it has a more compact design and also the button was also a little softer on the 75t, so it's a little stiffer here . but, realistically, I think this is a very strong candidate for one of the best pairs of headphones of 2020. I'll be doing a full comparison of my picks for the best headphones of 2020 in the next two weeks, so if you want to see what they go down , click the subscribe button and the bell icon.
