NEW BMW M4 Competition Review - Better Than The M3? 4K

Jun 06, 2021
This is the new BMW M4 and we all know the obvious talking point with this car, but I'm not going to get into that, I refuse, I think it's childish, if anything, I think the grill on this car is nothing less than the Holy Mother. Jeez that's big just kidding it's not that big in person it actually looks really cool wow bold strong wow the m4 is the two door coupe alternative to the m3 sedan. We've already

review

ed that car, so be sure to check it out. movie to understand everything, both use a three-liter six-cylinder engine, both have access to 510 horsepower and both are really fast, so why would you want an M4?

What have they done well? It's possibly the

better

car of the two, although you wouldn't. I necessarily believe it looking at it from this side because both the m3 and the m4 have an identical front. My new favorite grill. I was being harsh before. I actually quite like the way it looks, especially in black. This thing is a bit of a flashy BMW piece. They decided they wanted to make an impact on the car market to go big or go home and they definitely, yeah, they weren't big. It's really a matter of form and function because it's there to help maintain that three-liter six engine. -The two-cylinder engine overheats and channels cold air to the high-temperature radiators in the front to keep it at optimal operating temperature, although looking at its size, it's probably sucking in too much air if you ever feel it sitting. evil.

More Interesting Facts About,

A little out of breath, it's probably because there's an M4 driving around trying to stay cool, speaking of vents, they keep the brakes cool and channel air around the front wheels to increase aerodynamic efficiency. The wheels are 20 inches in the rear and 19 inches in the front. and the rubber is Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. As for the brakes, you can choose between 380 millimeter steel with red, black or blue calipers or 400 millimeter carbon ceramic with gold calipers, saving 15 kilos across the board. The car you are looking at here has the optional carbon pack. which gives you carbon on the lower vent door and diffuser, although the carbon roof comes as standard, where the m4 is considerably different to the m3, from about this point back it doesn't have four doors like the m3, it's a coupe and the roofline slopes quite elegantly towards the C-pillar.

I also like the fact that it is not as fussy and complex as the M3, which had strange cuts and creases that looked too busy for my eyes. Although I will complain about King Hofmeister. or the lack of in traditional BMW cars, you get a small problem that returns to itself, but this points in the wrong direction. BMW purists will absolutely hate that, meanwhile at the rear you get a set of lights unique to the m4, the lights on the m3 look like hockey sticks, these look like lacrosse sticks. I also like this lovely trunk lid spoiler with a little cutout section that mirrors these little blisters on the carbon fiber roof and this intricate aggressive looking diffuser section and look at these real exhausts anyway, I know.

What you want to know about this car is how practical it is compared to an m3. Well, the trunk is a pretty decent size, you can get lost in there. I like it. As for the rear seats, let's take a look. Yes, it's just like me. I thought it's not the most practical car in the world. I'm 511 and my head hits the ceiling. I wouldn't want to sit here too long. That's the price. Well the m4 costs around £76,000 but as always shopping on autotrader you can buy a new one at a huge discount there is one here for £71,990 that's a saving of £4800 right let's drive for anyone who thought that Hey, BMW has gone completely crazy with the exterior of the m4.
So they'll probably take it easy on the interior. Well, you were wrong, very, very wrong. They've gone crazy here too. Look at this cabin. I love it. Basically, it follows the recipe started by the M5 and M8, except. They just added a lot of color and a lot of carbon. This car has the carbon package as standard, so you get carbon on the dashboard. Carbon on the center console. Carbon on the new steering wheel, including carbon on these nifty little shift paddles. There is carbon. everywhere and the bad news if you hate carbon is you can't get rid of it it's carbon or nothing as for the colors well look at this cabin it's beautiful they've gone completely crazy with the color options inside of this car. you can have blue, brown, white, black and they all look sensational.
If you're a bit purple and don't like a colorful interior, then you can of course go for a more subdued all-black look, but I love it. they have done it inside this new car, it looks so brave, so cool, so modern, so contemporary, beautiful, the seats are a real highlight and you can also opt for a standard m sports seat or these amazing m carbon wraparound seats . I say they are amazing because I have never seen seats like this before. I've seen carbon seats, but in most quote-unquote regular cars, when you have a carbon seat, they don't have any adjustability, but you can adjust them to your blue face.
It moves back and forth electrically, you can adjust the angle, you can adjust the height to get closer to the roof and get a really good view of the outside, or you can hit it against the floor and sink into the cabin to really feel connected to the car. Perfect, they are not the most comfortable seats in the world but I have been sitting here for a few hours and my butt is not completely numb. I don't like this little lump of carbon between my thighs, but other than that place, I also really like this steering wheel.
Overall, I'm a big fan of the m ruffles. Some people find them a little thick, but for me this is absolutely perfect again, it's covered in carbon. fiber and a couple of highlights for me are the fact that it now has these m1 and m2 shortcut buttons so you can assign two of your favorite driving modes to one or the other and switch between them as you see fit, e.g. , one may contain all the settings for your most comfortable driving mode and the other could be the harshest. The best thing about this car for me has to be the engine.
It's the same s58 engine that you find in the new BMW M3, as well as the x3m and x4m. It is a real peach it generates 510 horsepower and 650 newton meters of torque, so it is good for the north to 62 in 3.9 seconds and at full speed with the limiter 155 or without the limiter 180 miles per hour it is so strong and fast that uses a lightweight crank the crank weighs 20 kilograms and is the same one found on the m4 gt3 race car and one of the benefits of this is that it allows the engine to accelerate so smoothly and freely that it simply spins so fast that it is absurd that maximum torque is available. from around 3000 rpm to five and a half thousand rpm, where you get the full 650 newton meters, but the maximum power comes much later, just above 6000 rpm, which means that, in a nutshell, it makes a very good imitation of a naturally aspirated engine and makes it really worth chasing the revs and feeling the engine reach that crescendo where you get all the power towards the top end.
It's an incredible unit. I'm probably less impressed by the transmission. The previous m4 used a mdct dual clutch transmission, but in They have gone for a ZF eight speed automatic and I think the car really suffers for that. It's not that it's not a good box, it's just not as attractive as the previous version. They still have a drive logic selector button down here. on the gear selector which apparently allows you to choose your level of aggression in your gear changes, but honestly now none of those settings make any difference, they all feel too calm, too fluid, there's a pecking order right, there is manual. boxes that are the best, then you have dcts right below and then you have automatics at the bottom and automatics as efficient as they are as smooth as they are in a performance car.
They are not for me. There are three main driving modes of the m4. Selectable via the m mode button, road and track sport, giving you more aggressive steering throttle and a stiffer ride. Track mode even turns off the main screen to help you focus. If you don't like any of those three modes, you can press the settings button. to individually adjust almost all the elements and assign them to a steering wheel enclosure in terms of handling, it is a really accomplished car, really capable, they have calibrated the electronic power steering system very well so that you can feel exactly how much grip and traction you have. the front end leading you into the corner, you can trust exactly what the car is about to do when you enter a corner, which in turn gives you enough faith to calculate how much pressure you can apply to the accelerator on exit and That's quite a bit.
It's important because the rear end of this car is very lively and by applying too much throttle coming out of the corner that can definitely cause the rear end to hit you, you have to be pretty quick and alert to be able to apply a little bit. countersteering to mitigate that is a lot of fun, but the car definitely keeps you on your toes. I like that the m4 even has 10-stage traction control at level 10. The system works hard to keep you in line. Mark it. back and you get progressively less help with adjustments in between, which equates to what is essentially a variable drift mode, the car will even rate your drift in terms of length and angle, but for those times when you're driving normally On public roads, the M4 can be surprisingly docile, livable, with good suspension and a quiet cabin.
It's a reward to drive this car almost however you want. It's got a really nice character and balance that makes it feel really nice when you're driving it down a back row. The whole car feels alive, responsive, smooth and flows very, very well. How does it compare to the m3? Well, both cars have a 50 50 weight distribution. Both cars weigh almost exactly the same, but there's something about the m4 that makes me feel like this is the sportier car and I can't tell if that's all in my head, but there's something about the m4 that makes me feel a little more connected to it, it just feels a little more appealing, maybe it's all psychosomatic but either way.
The cool thing to keep going is that I actually realize that I've said a lot of positive things about this car, so I feel like maybe I should add a couple of negative things and, well, yeah, I'd say the m4 given the performance level. It should sound a little

better

. The engine note isn't bad, but I'd prefer a few pops and a few knocks just to drive home the fact that this is a performance car. Other than that, I can't fault it, I mean, it has. big grill maybe look maybe that's the biggest criticism but come on if that's all you got honestly the m4 it's the nuts it really is so what's my first verdict on this car ?
I really like it, I love what BMW has done here, yes, with the performance and the handling and, in fact, especially the controversial design. I know they could have played it safe, but we should all be grateful that they didn't. If you prefer the older m3 and m4, then go and buy the older m3 and m4, but if you want. a car that pushes the boundaries of design while delivering exciting and engaging performance. You definitely need to take a closer look at this. They have done?
