Feb 27, 2020
Hi guys, I'm Shmi. Hello and welcome back to the channel where you join me today for something I've been waiting for for a long time. My

first

ride in the new c8 Corvettes. Of course, this is now the eighth-generation Corvette. but the former has a mid-engine configuration. Today we're surrounded by beautiful roads here in Nevada, USA to take a look at this car, so we'll start with a tour of the red Long Beach car behind it. Me and then it will be time to

drive

it to see what it is like on the roads. It's been about a year since the car was introduced, but now it's time to experience it myself to see what a

first

drive

in the Corvette c8 is like.

Look at this car here, so it's very attractive and I'm not hiding it, but since it was introduced last summer at an event in California that I was lucky enough to attend, I would be interested in owning one. like a future mobile Shmi' maybe a car to have here in the US. Well today is the time to drive it and get an idea of what it will really be like now. One of the particularly intriguing things is that these cars' entry-level specification starts from just $60,000 to have this level of performance and the look of a mid-engined supercar at that price is crazy now that this car in front of us costs eighty-thousand, it's a top-level spec, the LT 3 model.

More Interesting Facts About,

my first drive in the new 2020 corvette c8...

It doesn't have the z51 package, but it does come with a lot of tech and an upgraded interior which we'll get to in a moment, but what are the things that really tickle me? Do you like that he's a guy who likes driving experiences? and in particular the engines is that this is the only current series production vehicle that has a naturally aspirated mid-engine V8, the only one a 6.2-liter engine that generates 495 horsepower and speaking of which, Let's go directly and take the keys so we can open. Up in the engine compartment, which is also a storage space back here, just open it up and take a look inside.

Here we have the engine mounted low towards the rear, something completely new. The previous two Corvettes were front-engined. The engine was now in front. However, to improve the driving dynamics and move on to the next stage, it's mounted back here, we're just going to give it a completely different Drive connected to an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox that they created for that purpose, but something else. By the way, what you can do is this is a target so that this roof panel can be unlocked and can actually be stored back here and you can also use this space for golf clubs, which is still the kind of industrial measure for the luggage space available and it has a front and a trunk in the front, so it's a pretty practical version of the mid-engined supercar, just to close this rear part, it actually has soft clothing, which is quite nice, also, to turn around to the other side. there are actually more performance numbers from 0 to 60 miles per hour thanks to the 495 horsepower, 470 pounds to talk about, which is about 637 Newton meters, it's rear drive, but it will still run with the z51 package with sportier tires from 0 to 0 an hour fast enough to have no doubts about it.

I love the dark red with silver wheels, but check out the inside of a 2 while we're here. Take a look at the interior here, very, very well equipped to give you some of the most notable features. You have configurable driving modes, including an educational mode button. You have a 12-inch reconfigurable dashboard. 8-inch infotainment screen. The rearview mirror is actually a camera that helps with visibility. You can change it to a normal mode if you prefer. it's the GT 2 seats that offer a very sporty position and are very comfortable, but also adjustable carbon fiber inlays, the sound system with Bose 14 speakers, the whole interior is really very well finished, so let me take a step in, let's start with this so we can You can hear a little bit of what it's like here, so you've got an engine start button that just ran over to this side, but listen for the V8 to come to life.
Yes, it is a very, very typical sound of what you expect from the car. Although we are here in the middle of nowhere, but surrounded by some very nice roads with the car. I don't think this one has the performance exhaust, but you have your driving modes that you can toggle here, so for example, if we go to the right, we can put it in full track mode, where you'll get a different screen and you'll I'll show all of this in more detail later, as well as some of the controls and various aspects that what you have inside you would just hear it, yes, it sounds very, very good, so what will it be like to drive it?
Is this a car I should think about if we go out and test drive it a bit to see what it's all about? I think we should do this, come on, it's stressful at this point, this is literally my first meter or yard behind the wheel of the new Corvette, so let's get it going, we'll keep it on high. I've put it back on tour. the kind of normal driving mode, just to start and go and I hope everything goes well if you drive it normally, so that it's a smooth, smooth and easy drive, it's a dual clutch gearbox, right? and we have some pretty nice things. asphalt here so let's hit the road to get a first idea of what this car is like so please reply and obviously a tour boat votes are closed by the way the high performance exhaust that this car has , but you know what I Actually, I think I'm going to put it directly in sport mode for the moment in manual because one of the most important things for me is that the engine that this car has must have a 6.2 liter v8, obviously It doesn't help in terms of weight, it's not the lightest car by any means, but it more than makes up for it with the amount of power it has.
The shifts are good, they're very, very quick, very crisp, you'll see a mid-range rev band. Right now, here we go and the protein runs the Willy v8, which is exactly what you want and kudos to Corvettes for managing to keep that in the car because it still has an engine like that. Can you imagine what it will be like in the future? models to come, as I said in one, whatever the different variations are, so driving like this is great visibility, the front hatch is very low, you have good positioning indicators in terms of the wheel arches, the A pillars are very narrow, which gives you good visibility, you also have some fun mirrors in terms of the view you have to the rear and then all the shapes come out of them, as well as being able to see over those very high rear arches that the car has, drop it again.
Redline when you're in manual, it won't upshift either, it'll hit it all the way to the limiter. However, you will obviously lower the gears to preserve and save the engines that you do not have to stop, it is a very, very low gear. Although the ruffle is really cool, I know square ruffles get mixed reactions, some people just love them something to eat. I'm a big fan, it makes getting in and out easier by having the square bottom and let's face it, it looks really cool, oh that's good, it's coming towards us, really cool, you can configure all these settings, let's say you want to sport but you want a softer suspension, you can do it, you can change the brake feel, you can change the suspension, you can change all kinds.
Of different things, I will open it in track mode, which I will also experience soon on the race track, where you will see a cool screen in front of you with the terrestrial horizontal rev counter plus the head-up display. There are changes too and when it comes to technology this car has a lot to offer, they ship a head up display, the reversing camera and I guess the sound system really surprises you how much it offers for the price, because you know it's got things like the telemetry data recorder in the infotainment system it has connected services it has everything you could want blind spot monitoring is introduced for this car also let me look around.
I'm trying to think a little, you can feel it. the shift is slightly more aggressive in the aggressiveness and feel in terms of the shifts than it is, obviously, we're driving on almost perfect asphalt, which certainly helps with the right quality, definitely, when they throw the hits with the Right hand drive in Europe and Particularly in the UK we don't have roads as smooth as this so it will be quite different and it will feel good as well as the weights and the steering, when you are on the track you will feel like you are pushing quite hard. force the steering wheel. which obviously gives you more feedback received on the track in a dynamic environment, it will make you feel quite connected and you know what in an era where you have all these turbo engines that just muffle the sound and particularly European cars with regulations that mean they don't They can make exciting noises, it's actually quite refreshing to be able to drive this, so first impressions here are pretty good, well we have pretty empty roads around here, one thing to try, basically we'll stop for a moment. and a full launch, but I guess we'll stop and then go full throttle to see what it's like, yeah that's pretty fast, there's a big country behind you, you can feel the engine right behind you pushing forward, the sound is really feel. plugged in too it's a lot louder when you're at the top end than I would have expected but in a good way the way you expected this car would probably be worse it ends up like this these are amazing roads to drive this car to test it out for the first time and you know, I think the most important thing is that it's at least what I expected it to be, if not more, I thought it might have things that I was constantly picking apart.
We had a few moments before where the gearbox was, but it's a little clunky at slower speeds, but these are pre-production cars too. These are some of the test cars tested above, as opposed to customer specs that will be arriving very, very soon. So I guess that kind of thing comes down to the software that will be developed to drive this. I mean, he really despises Valerie. We're not busy enough to tape her tires. Yes, she still manages to transport him like this. okay, so let's go down and up for a moment, back to slack - here the whole mode is inserted and there's a bit of lag on the dash, it takes a moment to think about what you're doing in the swap between the different ways of driving . modes press the manual button it will go back into drive the 8 speed automatic does its job it changes priority to get the gear in front of you instead of the rev counter selector and you get a lot of different information that can change in that cycle through a screen there, obviously, which makes life quite enjoyable if you like to play, but these things want to see specific things on your dashboard browsing around here now just transforms into a very smooth and easy to drive car.
I completely transform the the steering is a little bit lighter, the ride is very smooth, quiet, you have a pretty decent amount of space inside the car and of course don't forget you can remove the roof, you can open the latch, just lift the roof and pop it is in the air are the boots as we say the trunk the storage space in the back so this is kind of the first impression and they are very positive with this incredible landscape around that we just stopped because we are I'm going to remove the roof and do the service.
It's a two-person operation. Today I'm joined by Matt Moran Rotary. a little bit the door handles, by the way, just below, open that, what you have to do is remove or open three latches, so up here you open the sun visors and you have these in the front, it says and then there is that one also in the rear, which catches the front, opens up, so we need to open up the rear luggage space because it's going to be stored here, it says there's another one that goes straight through and it's going to basically go to these. these supports, so I try to do this.
I'm a little bit one-armed, but open it up and then we'll tell you that you've got it, yeah, perfect and then it can be put away and stored literally in here, so just leave it. I gently take this side and place it in the back where it should sit straight with downward clicks with the soft clothing. I really like it and then we can step back in here and continue our journey. It helps me map absolutely nice and easy, yes and oh yes, oh yes, that's much better, it's also a very nice view forward and let's continue with the beauty of this, then let's drive again in manual first gear, onto a highway empty, clear in front of us and yes, in the form of the guitar, the guitar. from the way you can hear the heat of the back behind you, but from the repair experience in this fiddle bout, there is also the retractable hardtop version for a few thousand dollars more that will arrive a couple of months after that we saw thepresentation at home, but it's Late last year, but it's all cars with convertible engines, we came to a stopping point, so it's time to go over a few more details and I parked the car backwards so we can take a Look at the rear, which many people have commented is very similar in design to the Camaro but of course another family of products that also comes from Chevrolet and is not.
All of that is surprising. I quite like the different shapes, the way you have the 3D style on the taillights at the rear, you have the twin exhaust tips on each side mounted right towards the bottom. I think overall it's a good looking car. I have a slightly funny angle on this rear fender that you have on the side of the car, but that of course is all to fit in the luggage space and also to house the engine back there, but getting back to the interior there is still a lot more here to discuss and show.
I briefly showed you the key earlier, but I have it in my pocket right now so you can see both sides. You have the Corvette. flag symbol near some different controls. I think you can actually start it from the key, you press that one twice and then hold it down and it comes to life. How cool is it that we don't have those features in Europe or something. Anyway, the car goes in before we do the seats, the GT 2 seats that I mentioned before, you have some carbon fiber here under the headrest, very, very nice seats, there is a completely different option that you can have with the stitching on contrast, you even have a different seat belt. colors, you can have six different interior options, as there are twelve standard exterior paint colors, many and many configurable specifications, as you would probably expect, the door sill steps, which has a bit of storage, these buttons for the front and rear.
I have an electronic door release button instead of a traditional handle, there is a backup release button underneath, for some reason the electronics don't work, but come in please excuse me to the sunlight. I think we probably have to press a button. just to wake up the screens, which we do, we almost make out here the central screen coming to life. Oh yes, you have to press the brake to start and then bring it to life completely and process it for me to learn, but here in front of us, so. Currently we have the main board.
I think in Tour mode, the lever is right under this armrest, so you have this kind of palm rest right here, which is pretty cool, and then you have the lever selector underneath. You can go through different modes, so in sport, you can hear the valves opening one more and we go up to track mode, where you get that very, very sporty display. Now, one interesting thing about this is going down to the left side, where you have the oil pressure and temperatures and things actively changing color to notify you of a warning, so in your peripheral vision you'll be able to detect if there's a problem and you need to.
Cool the car a little more. You also have here the Z Mode Button or Zed Mode Button that you can press and it will take you right to your default settings and exactly how you want to have the car and how you set it up, that's not the only custom setting mode because also here if you turn it down, too you have my mode so you have my mode and z mode which are both configurable and then you have weather for icy conditions and all of these have the various appropriate settings that go along with them depending on how you've set it up. up and do sports, you just hear it getting a little louder there, you have a few other buttons, favorites, volume, your controls to go through here and go through the performance data recorder intended for reviewing lap times and g- forces and all that kind of stuff on the left, you've got the cruise control shift paddles slightly wrapped around the back, but they feel nice: soft, spongy, they almost click on the back, your white shifter, the lever your windshield wipers and then you come.
Go to the infotainment screen now, as a driver you can't really see the start button and volume change, they are quite difficult but I assume you have them on the steering wheel. If we go home, you can see here how. you have a lot of different things, you have Apple Carplay and Android Auto installed, you have apps, you have OnStar services, you have SOS functionality, you have the PDR personal data recorder, which is where you use the cameras to record your tracks and you can add new tracks and set this up and obviously it will save the video overlay over your lap time and track data, take you back to the home users audio and then back to your main type of home screen with some tiles that Note While there is a slight delay, it's not particularly slow, but sometimes it just takes a moment to think about what's going on.
Now we come to something I'm not the biggest fan of and I talked about this when I first saw the car. the HVAC controls this stroke, it strengthens the car, there is a functional reason for it, but I find it very difficult to determine where the different buttons are, you have climate controls, you have heated seats and cooled seats, which is always the case. very nice, driver buttons towards the top, auto sync, steering fan revs everything you would expect from window heaters and then passenger controls down here, but it impedes passenger leg room, yes you're sitting on the passenger side, your knee is basically resting. inside of this, it's very driver focused, what's the point, it's a good rate, that's the point, it's supposed to be a driver's car, that's why it was made like that, next to it you have two cup holders. decent space or you don't have anything there, obviously you can cover it with a little more slack and a little tidier in the front, you have your Park Reverse Neutral Drive and manual levers, which is not a very innovative way and is very easy to Maneuver the car with a very tight turning circle, it's very easy to press the different buttons and you know this works quite well versus those that have traction control, the front nose, a lift raises the nose 40 millimeters, it's about a inch and two-thirds or so just to help clear up anything difficult on the front and then you also have the front camera if you need to carry it, which again, although it's very, very fast and the cameras here have to say it all. works really great so you can go back home including the one I really like like I said you can move this and go into a normal mirror view where you can look back or you can have the camera literally show us exactly what is. happening behind another thing that I quite like are the ventilation controls, this little lever in the center feels great and all the materials are correct, the fit and finish is very very solid, the leathers are really nice, all of these toes are nice, opens the glove box constantly. all done to a very high standard which is really impressive and overall a cool designer, the dash above the instrument cluster, the seat controls with memory here, yeah I can't really fault the interior at all and then behind just to continue further back. a center tunnel there is a storage cube with some USB ports, you have a wireless charging pad spot right here under the Corvette Stingray with the speaker badge behind it, now what we noticed while driving was that there is a lot of wind noise, I think it's particularly through the mounting pins and just the wind coming into this area behind, as it happens, above about 40 to 45 miles per hour, the wind really started to pick up, but let me get on the bus and turn off the car for a moment, press here to open the door we came in, I'll show you the front storage box.
We have a few bags in there, but just take a quick look at how much space is available. There's no secondary latch, it just lifts up, it's a little bit of space, I have two backpacks, rock bags, they don't fit anything big, but it's easy to store for everyday use and then to close this, just press it and do click into place, so yeah, look at this car in low sun. It looks awesome, this color is really pretty, long beach red with the silver wheels and red calipers. By the way, an interesting fact because of the 60/40 weight balance, 60% of which is in the rear, there are actually larger brakes in the rear. that at the front, the brakes can be improved, but they will still always be a little bigger at the rear, which is quite unusual for this type of car, anyway, what a first trip, what an experience, what opportunity to see the new one. c8 Corvette, a first drive here at the media event based in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
And I tell you what I mean, saving the best to last. This really catches my attention. You get for the money with this car 81 grand for a car that hits this hard, there are a few little things here and there but it is an incredibly impressive car, no wonder they are making about 30,000 units a year, the first year it is completely sold out , not surprising at all, this is brilliant stuff. For the money, a very, very impressive driving experience, so thank you very much for calling me for the opportunity to come here to drive the car.
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed this video. Please subscribe to receive much more. come in the future but for now that's all thank you very much for watching see you very soon greetings
