we did a bunch of stuff , we freed up some piston rings so we could properly start this engine on top of which is apparently now a Model T, we also sent a starter so we could properly retract it and got this Jegs 350 box started except there's a little problem, engine rattles like crap so in the last video I mentioned that I wasn't going to attempt to restart this motor until I mechanically verified the p oil pressure.

Why did they say it sounded like the risers were dry? or a slight dipstick knock, lots of good feedback, lots of good ideas, but either way we're definitely going to check with a mechanical oil pressure gauge and we don't even have to run the engine for this because I bought the priming tool from the oil pump. that we'll stick to the end of a bore and after removing the distributor we'll be able to spin the oil pump and see if this engine has oil pressure but the reason I didn't hesitate too long starting this in the last video and why this car is still a

its because when i bought it it had a current ny state inspection sticker on it and i found current insurance on the car so new yorkers correct me if i'm wrong but you don't have to drive a car To state inspection, that's why I thought this motor hadn't been sitting around long, but we had the rings stuck anyway, just a big

that the distributor is totally loose and then I found this right here so this is the clamp that holds the distributor as you can see it's totally loose this bolt is off I can't tighten it any further so I'm going to have to removing the distributor and getting to a four coil in this thread but after seeing that after i stopped filming i thought wait a minute the firing order doesn't look right on this car so the last car The old carbureted one I had was a 68 Camaro so it was over a decade ago but this didn't feel right to me so I looked it up here is the correct firing order what is supposed to be on the cap and , as you can see, they have it, whoever worked on this last one has cylinder one in there, it's supposed to be eight, they have cylinder two in there, it's supposed to be one, and everything else is wrong as well.

I'm a little surprised this worked as well as it did, but this really got me thinking what if they were playing here and then put it back together. and they removed that screw that started the in the engine and the distributor lifted up slightly which would still work if it lifted up but it wouldn't wear out the oil pump which would explain the noise it was making and thanks to you guys in the comments section who saw this car sitting in front of a store in New York. I know it was basically there for over a year and the shop most likely told the previous owner that he had a knock on the rod.

I can pull the clamp back far enough. It should come out fine, there we have it, it's out, yeah, these gears look a little bit chewed up. I don't think this warrants replacing this gear or the distributor, but as you can see the bottom half of the gear is a little more worn than the top half and I think that's because this thing popped up a bit and this here is what it drives the oil pump so the camshaft drives this distributor gear and then the distributor drives the oil pump so it can come out and still engage and still create a spark but not create oil pressure and here we go inside from the distributor bore so the camshaft gear looks nice and there is the oil pump drive shaft and this is our special oil pump priming tool for GM so as you can see this end has the same impeller at the bottom of the distributor and then we're literally just going to spin the drill, spin the oil pump with the mechanical gauge attached and cross our fingers that we get pressure d e oil without tools.
Note these valve cover bolts with a little Chevy symbol on them and there are literally wing nuts. With the driver's side of the valve cover removed we can take a look at the rocker arms, push rods, springs and one thing you guys mentioned was maybe it needed a rocker adjustment so let's look here to see what we can see regarding the elevators. It's probably hard for you to tell but it's a hydraulic lift so no adjustment is needed and these are just normal stamped rocker arms so nothing really adjustable. all pushrods seem to be straight i'll take a better look at them and let you know but right off the bat just my initial inspection everything seems to be normal and for you small block guys six to six to four cylinder head i'm not sure if that's a decent thing HECO in Mexico ok so it's probably just a stock 350 cylinder head on this car but look at this we got the factory oil pressure sender there's actually a second one here no I'm totally sure. what it does might be the choke on the carb tells you when the oil gets hot but we've got like eighty like a little brass T and then that's the line for my gauge here and here's the gauge so we're going to turn the engine with the drill and I hope we don't know like 30 to 60 psi on that gauge depending on how fast the old Makita spins it. oil priming tool installed in the hole for the distributor we hook up our old Makita drill and gauge and all we have to do is push the button on the drill and see this gauge here we go yeah yeah this is getting dying so I'm at 35 psi that doesn't really matter because I It all depends on how fast I can get the oil pump turning but the awesome thing is it didn't take any time to prime so that goes along with my theory that i don't think it was that long ago this engine ran i want to lose the premium it has to be sitting around for a while or it has to be a new engine you just rode in that case you should always use this tool i probably should have done this in the last video but I'm sure you guys have been there just get really excited about something you really want to turn on and that's what I did but either way I really believe my theory on the dealer it shows up and it doesn't cause oil pressure which has to be the case because as you can see we have oil pressure on demand so this is really good news guys this means we can put everything back together set up the dealer set time and drive this car in this video i have to run to the

store now that i know the engine is ok get new oil pre i am sure of the sender and i think i might get some new seals for the trans.
We'll see if they have them in stock but I'm very very excited right now so I'll let this run for probably another minute or at least until this one the battery is dead so maybe another 15 seconds and we'll run the engine with the valve cover off to make sure this all works properly too ok let's see if we can get this bolt out to get in anything that head is a little rounded she comes on couldn't tighten this at all didn't want to try didn't want to break looks like it's going to come out maybe i have to drill it we'll see but either way i'll fix this hole ok and the bolt itself doesn't look bad at all so let's take a look at the threads here ok guys it's probably hard for you guys to tell but the vast majority probably 85 percent of the threads are perfectly fine its at the bottom there is a bit confusing but i got a very easy fix for it SW. the standard old tech school faucets i haven't used in a long long time but take a look at it like it's butter and then we're gonna hit a brick and right there that's not the bottom it's just a little scrapped there up in at the end no problem i'm just going to go through the wiper and welcome into the number one cylinder so we're on the intake stroke right now piston goes down intake valve opens sucks air and now it is closing, the piston is coming.
Back up for some compression and look at the cylinder wall it looks very very nice our piston is on its way to top dead center doing all the compression in the world right now getting ready for that spark. center, so the next step is to properly install the distributor, now you don't need to bore your engine to do this. I really like to look at things with the borescope and I wanted to see what cylinder one looked like and it had a good angle to show you guys the intake valve there it opens and closes so once it was fully closed the piston went up completely which means we're at top dead center for a compression stroke on the number one cylinder and this is when you want to put your distributor in and I'll show you that in a minute but another way to do it is to remove the plug and feel if air is coming out when all the air is coming out you know you're at top dead center and then there's a right mark see that little white mark right there on the balancer and then it's got the teeth here it's hard to see but there's a zero there so once you get close you can bring this right to the middle hit the zero and you're good with the number 1 cylinder at top dead center on the compression stroke we're ready to install the distributor basically sim It just drops and we make sure the rotor is just pointing at cylinder number one that way we know that's going to be the first to fire and this can be a little tricky to get the gear to mesh and the oil pump to work at the same time. time but I'll show you once we get it close we can crank the engine by hand and this thing will plug in nice so right now this is splined with the camshaft so the timing part is set now we just needed fan out so we can spin the engine right now the rotor will move that's fine and then as soon as the transmission oil lines up it will sit right down anytime we go so there's really no reason to mess around with the distributor, push it in and out a few times to get the oil drive shaft to seat properly so you just crank the engine over once you have the gear Distributor fitting and cam gear meshed and it will drop down so I have the bolt and the hole down is very tight it won't come off anymore but it's not totally tight because we need to set the timing on this engine what? okay guys? so i set cylinder one to race compression top dead center one more time just to show you this very very clearly so we have our rotor once again pointing to that cylindernumber one here is our cap I have removed all the wrong white numbers that were here that didn't correlate to the proper cylinder but once you put the distributor cap back on it starts a little hard to do this and hold the chamber but you have the idea that you'll have that rotor pointing to this terminal here, which is the terminal for cylinder one, so I'll run the spark plug wire from here to cylinder one, the next one here is cylinder eight, which is back here in the passenger side and then it's one eight four three six five seven two going clockwise. their respective cylinders and that way, even if you get a car where the distributor was installed correctly or the wires were put in the wrong cylinders, you can basically start from scratch and know you got it right the first time. e we have and alright here's our filter element alright so let's look inside the folds here now I have a bright LED flashing on this so it's going to look a little bit shiny but I don't see any big chunks of anything we're looking for bearing material and stuff and just generally looking at the oil we did this in the last video just draining it nothing wrong nothing wrong it just looks a little dirty so anyways we're going to fill it back up with oil and start with the valve cover removed so we can see the rockers and i still have a couple trans leaks that i showed you in the last video, the main one is from the seal, the grommet for the dipstick tube.
I bought it from time to time. We have a leak. The 700R4 has different sized seals because the guy at the

store of course asked me what year and what make. its the same 700r4 but let me know if there are different size stamps he asked me which one i had and i have never run out of weird stuff to find at a mystery

car check this out check this out this is welded this is the crossmember The transmission, it's missing a couple of bolts so they just welded it up, didn't do the best job either.
Wow wow why didn't they fix it right? This isn't even lying so this is a totally different crossmember but it's still like a real hack so basically if I have to replace the transmission I have to grind out the metal that it is. so rare, so let's hope it's in good shape. I have to recharge it before we do a test drive, but it's not a big deal if it's leaking just a tiny bit, that'll be good enough for what we're doing today. hi yeah i joined star trek and it sounds awesome the way you guys remember how sapporo and this stuff works awesome and easy 60psi let's take a better look at it i want to make sure we're greasing the top as well so obviously I put the seat belts back on we had them off from the previous video and everything seems to be working great now i filled the oil in without the valve cover so i just poured a bit on this side and what i want to look for is the dipsticks thrust are spinning so see those guys spinning that's good we want them to spin and get oil through the riser and then through the pushrod and then if you see I don't have you can see that but there's a small hole in the top of the rocker for oil to drain out. through splashes all over the spring and stuff and keeps everything lubricated oh yeah look at the oil flowing nice in there you can see it flowing it's coming out of that hole right there so we got oil all the way to the top .
Engine finish is fantastic guys so I'm going to check the transmission fluid level. I'm going to connect this ground to the fan. I unplugged it so we could hear everything better and we're off for a ride in the 85. Firebird Banshee I think I'm just going to call this thing the straight up Banshee the guy who built it called it the invader but it was based on the Banshee and I like that so we have to put the taillight covers back on. The engine started and it seems to be

running

worse than it originally was before I didn't think it was misfiring or running bad at all so I put it all back together I started it up to show you what it sounded like and now it's just kind of running a little weird, It definitely smells like it's running rich and I've been messing with it over time.
I don't know if the refresh rate will show up for you, but either way, I'm about 12 degrees ahead of time. I just googled what to set the time to small black, and I think this is some kind of smaller camera little block, so comment below guys what should I set the base time to? I have the vacuum advance disconnected and the vacuum line plugged so it clears up if you give it a little bit of gas but it's like 400rpm idling right now so I'm not exactly sure what's going on it could be an idle Very low but this could also have very old gas so I'm going to reconnect the advanced vacuum and block the distributor.
Put the air filter back in and let's go for a quick ride, shall we? First, drive, come on, honey, what's going on? I let it cool down a bit and it started out really, really hard. I'm speeding it up myself. it just shifted perfectly wait lemme fix the seatbelt strap or handle and we got brakes this is awesome ok so i think we're second now we're going bad yeah , there's a third one Wow, crispy, transmission is really nice, speedometer works, let's see, we've got good battery voltage, slowly getting back to operating temperature and yes, the brakes are solid, they feel like your typical tiny brakes from 3rd gen Firebird but with an extra thousand pounds of bondo in it so we'll definitely take it easy here this is awesome it's got a check engine light Does anyone out there have an OPD scanner one I definitely don't so it's really good now it's running fine we're coming to a stop sign we're idling it's idling on its own it's still very low though it's like 500 something So.
I'm giving you some gas in case we don't want this to die oh man this is awesome we're taking it back yeah we're boosting Firebird mystery auction $1,100 I mean I spent 995 on the oil pressure switch 20 something dol lars on an oil change god I think that's all I had to buy that I bought the timing light didn't have one of those and the priming tool and of course there's a ton of Chicago traffic, we're not going to go too far though i want this to work in top condition before we go crazy with this and really see what you got look at this power window slower than ever but it works this is great guys check this out With no hands it drives perfectly straight.
I didn't. To be honest, I didn't even check the tire pressure. I have to, but it has coolant that was perfect. Obviously, we have good oil pressure. The engine sounds very good. Is working. $1,100 thinking you need a motor, the turn signals work and we're

the car just a few bouts later for practically a little change, so I'd set a thousand dollar budget to make this totally roadworthy. I wouldn't say I drive it. to California right now but it's running and driving and we're, I don't know, maybe a hundred bucks deep with the purchase of those tools and it's just shifting perfect no weird noises nothing and yeah we're just loitering here I think It's getting rich.
I need to read on the carb setting and we need to refuel this car. I'm going to change the fuel filter now that I know it's working. I feel better putting a little more money into this, but it does have a little thud when I let it go. so i hope it's not to do with that crossbar, maybe it's just a bad trans man, can i replace it without taking it? look at the people's faces while driving this i got two thumbs up though i also got a couple of weird looks which i don't really blame people this looks a little weird but it's definitely getting rich check out the black from the tailpipe smells like it's getting rich and to me this sounds like a There's a problem with the carb choke so when it was cold it ran great and then as soon as it warmed up it started misfiring and it just smelt of unburnt fuel so most likely we will need to take the carb apart and maybe clean it figure out what is going on with the choke at that point in the next video we are going to fix the trans leaks we are going to give the choke a full overhaul fuel filter maybe some spark plugs and really tune this thing up I might as well get some help from an old friend of mine so we'll set the time play around with carb tuning and Then as long as it's not snowing here in Chicago, we're going to take this for a proper test drive, give it a try and see how it feels, so that'll suffice for today.
